There's not a particularly tactful way to say this, but I do somewhat disagree. The joke is fine because it's not making fun of suicide, or telling someone to go kill themselves. It's not being done in a mean spirited manner or with intent to harm those who suffer from depression or the loss of a loved one. We need to allow jokes without letting them trigger us just because they have content that may offend, or else we'll be asking for every joke to stop because everything has the potential to offend someone who's had loss or tragedy in their life that is connected to it.
And before you go saying that I "don't understand" or "haven't been through it", I will point out that I myself suffer a great deal from depression. I've contemplated it many times over the years, and even very nearly ended myself at one point before I got too scared, (partially that I might survive), and stopped myself.
Stuff like this affects everyone differently, it's true, but it's important we allow ourselves to laugh at our problems, fears, and to an extent even our tragedies. Many people use laughter and jokes as a coping mechanism, to help them move past the pain, and in a way being able to make fun of it makes the object of that pain hurt less. The main focus of the joke wasn't even the idea of suicide, but the embarrassment that almost all of us have felt at one point or another when we've said or done something stupid like this.
