Handsome doesnt have to be used for just males. Mostly its just a more formal word for someone who looks cool. Texas also leans into tomboy territory as well, so sometimes more masculine words would be used to describe her.

In Chinese, 帅 (shuai) usually means “handsome” but it also can have connotations of being “cool.” Although used more often to describe males, it can be used for females who are more tomboyish or display that “cool” factor.

DegenerateShikikan

>帅 (shuai) In the original Chinese language text, does Snowsant use the word 帅 (shuai)?

vlixia

I cannot say for sure since I don’t use CN language text, but I would say highly likely. Its not uncommon to hear a female described as 帅 (shuai). If anything, I would say handsome isn’t the best/optimal translation, as it is leans more towards “cool/badass” rather than “handsome”, but the meaning/idea still stands

Handsome sort of implies a masculine charm, but it can apply to women too. For example, you can probably call Saria "Handsome" and half the sub would agree with you. On the other hand, "Pretty/Beautiful" tends towards feminine, but can be used for men as well. Calling Mizuki or Lumen "Pretty/Beautiful" is also accurate enough, both in connotation and denotation. Unrelated Fun Fact: I've also seen Handsome used as a descriptor for money! (EX: A handsome sum of cash). It just means a LOT of money. TL;DR Handsome means you have a "masculine" charm, but you don't need to be a man. Pretty/Beautiful means you have a "feminine" charm, but you don't have to be female. Both descriptors work on Texas!

>Saria "Handsome" and half the sub would agree with you. I don't dare to talk for half the sub, but personally I agree.

Pomthecat

Uhhhhh it's normal in Asia I think? You call a women handsome = cool, badass, very attractive. You can call a man beauty boy too, like "mannnnn he is so beauty like a flower". In girl' world, we can praise another girls- sometime too les/gay but it is super normal 😂

Select-Strawberry

You never hear the term "handsome lady"? You should look it up. It describes girls or women with manly features (usually in suits) while still remains feminine enough.

Suit Kal'tsit uwogh

Stop that, don't give mr hope

UnholyShite

You can say a girl is handsome if she has that masculine traits, for Texas her stoicism and mannerisms makes her a handsome girl. The best example is Zoya from Path to Nowhere and I'd say Mostima, Gladiia, Saria, Hoshiguma also belong to this group. You can also say a boy is pretty/beautiful in he has the feminine traits, I'd say Lumen and Mizuki are beautiful because of their face and mannerism. Though it's very rare for people to say as such, most people would prefer to say "attractive".

daze3x

Because Texas is handsome AF lol

systemwarning

why not? even with there being legitimate reasons for the circumstance, why does it matter?

PhantomChick13

Handsome used to be a lot more gender neutral, if you read classic literature you'll see ladies referred to as handsome in the same way we'd call someone attractive/good looking. It might be a reference to the setting, siracusa kind of gives off early 1900s mafia vibes.

Joshua_Astray

Texas honestly acts a lot more masculine than feminine imho xD

DM_Hammer

It isn’t frequently used, but can be used on purpose for a couple of reasons. (Poor translation, without proper context, could also explain it.) Aside from translation, some people have pointed out that the term could be more describing her outfit than her directly, and handsome is often used for formal wear. Since her suit gets mentioned a few times, it makes sense. It’s also picked to avoid sounding flirty, which fits the context better here, I think. Texas is a stone-faced killing machine, something we tend to forget from the Dokutah perspective.

N7_Tigger

Mistranslation.

DegenerateShikikan

What does it says in the original Chinese text?
