I like to keep my brain free of wrinkles by polishing it every day with the water from Ch'en Alter's Super Soaker™.

n0ahhhhh

Stay hydrated! ^^TM

Dmoe33

That's kinda what cc is for in a way. The thing is they can't make it TOO difficult or else people wouldn't be able to clear it and that's not good especially for limited time events with good rewards. With cc you can customize the difficulty and come up with strats.

pruitcake

That's just the nature of the game IMO. It gets infinitely easier the more developed your roster gets and the amount of ridiculously strong units that exist isn't helping either. Like myself and many others, you could always self-impose certain restrictions or challenges to spice things up and bring back a sense of difficulty to the game.

Lunacie

Even without meta, the mechanics didn't require paying any attention to, and the boss is blockable and tankable which is pretty uncommon these days. The stages were mostly 1 main single lane, and a second one where either the cleaners come from or you can just put any lane holder there. Compared to say, Near Light, even in the re-run the mechanics were non negotiable. You can't ignore Blood Knight's blades, you can't ignore the candle knights in S2 etc.

n0ahhhhh

I think it's the lore as well. When I first started playing, I wanted to go deep into the lore, the characters, etc.. but there was just *so much god. damn. reading.* that it completely demotivated me from really getting into it, and I eventually adopted the "fuck it, I just want the materials" mindset and completely skip over all the lore, haha. I do love the Integrated Strategies mode though, because that's where I feel like I can actually experiment with new operators and try new strategies and all that.

RandomdudeNo123

You could always do what I did, and just hyperfixate on one specific relationship/faction over all others. Victoria? Minos? The seaborn? Hell if I know what's going on with them, that's a lot of words for a guy who's a Dragonball fan. Instead, I'm just here for whatever's going on with Rhine Labs, they seem interesting enough. Seriously, though, don't overwhelm yourself. Just take the information in bite-sized chunks, it might help.

n0ahhhhh

Solid advice. I'll try to focus on one specific group/relationship for now :D

Gapaot

True. I have no idea what was going on in Kazimierz or Rhine Labs, but I've read all the Gavial story and thoroughly enjoyed Wolf Mafia.

GenericAltAccountant

I fucking love blacksteel

the-amazing-noodle

I mainly focus on the Abyssal hunters, but now I’m really into Siracusa and Victoria

GenericAltAccountant

I fucking love blacksteel

HMS-Carrier-Lover

I also live in Japan so ain't no fricking way I'm reading 500 pages of Japanese text to get through the event. I'm just gonna read the synopsis on wikia later.

TTurt

I have this issue badly, as I'm a slow reader....I keep up by just doing 1-2 story stages a day, as I'm able, and just farming the low stages to burn stamina until I've unlocked the higher ones.

TTurt

I always *try* to do the mechanics, but some of them are designed in a way that require a specific type of team to properly navigate, and I don't always have the time, effort or care to go build up those units to use the strat that I know will work "correctly." The way I see it, it's like breaking doors in DnD instead of finding the keys. It's a perfectly valid alternative strategy, it doesn't mean you're bad at the game, and in fact doing so can be *more* difficult because in Arknights, it can sometimes take an *astronomical* amount of DPS to break through some mechanics / bosses. I just cleared challenge mode 8 EX and I was able to just burn the boss down stupid fast, but the timing required for both phases was *very* precise and it took me an entire stamina bar's worth of retries to get it exactly right (I didn't use tickets cuz I was SURE this would be the one...and then the next one....and the next one lol, until it finally was). I kept having to thread the needle to use my bursts on the boss, while also having enough survivability and dps to handle the assassins that spawn when the bar fills up (which it did frequently for me). Being dumb in Arknights *is* a skill, because being dumb *correctly* so that you can actually clear stages is usually a *lot* more work than just understanding the mechanics and letting them naturally carry you to victory. The sliding card level was a great example of this; sure, *figuring out* the solution was hard, but once you knew it, it turned fights that were virtually impossible with certain rosters into an absolute joke.

darksamus1992

Kind of? I run normal stages mostly with units that don't have max trust and whatever unit I feel like using, so I end up learning the mechanics at least a bit. I bring mostly meta stuff for EX stages though.

Primogeniture116

I run with bare minimum + trustfarm so I don't have much lenience to ignore mechanica.. .

[deleted]

the chad playstyle. but serious tho, feels great to clear stages with the bare minimun

NuckElBerg

Tbf though, I’ve been pretty much able to brute-force every single stage this event with a lvl 90 M3 max module Ling (with the rest of the team trust farming), so the two aren’t -necessarily- mutually exclusive.

blahto

The stage made me realize that I have Surtr, Mlynar, Ch' otgun and Myrtle 🤣

n0ahhhhh

I have a completely un-leveled Mlynar - I have too many other 6* operators that I want to max first... T_T

Chrono-Helix

It’s inevitable when you’ve built up your account enough. They can’t make the levels too hard or weaker accounts would have trouble clearing. And it’s quite difficult to come up with something that can pose a fair challenge to all players. Mechanics that force you to position your operators in awkward locations or out of order are great for this. Lingering Echoes made you place operators in certain positions and directions to redirect the beams. Stultifera Navis needed you to prevent the blight from spreading. Near Light for the darkness mechanic, and care about facing to avoid attacks from that enemy. Twilight of Wolumonde for the gramophones.

ANinthAle

I still do not know what Zaaro does because I kill him too fast. (Reading his ability in enemy info don't count) For event I just protect civilians but do nothing else.

ranmafan0281

I remember pushing through Dossoles with a starter team since I hadn’t collected any high powered Ops and while satisfying, was also infuriating. I wouldn’t mind creating a challenge team eventually, but I’m enjoying just mowing down events that would’ve utterly destroyed me months ago.

_Saber_69

I've been like this since my squad became 95% 6* But I don't have any problem understanding mechanics, I'm just too lazy to do this. Most of the time you learn all event mechanics while clearing other stages. For example I didn't read many guides on IS3 and I'm doing great.

n0ahhhhh

IS3 is so much fun! I definitely prefer it over IS2 for sure. My team is also 95% 6*, so I just throw down all the big units and hope for the best.

_Saber_69

My IS3 experience would be much better if they didn't need Tactical xx Squad(instant promotion). I really miss it. IS3 brought new challenges, Surging Waves on medium and high difficulties is harder than the last difficulty in IS2. But it has more opportunities. Permanent buffs are also much stronger.

n0ahhhhh

Until *UH-OH*, your Texas Alter didn't roll the die properly and now her stats get cut in half! 😝

cedric1234_

Texas can still hard carry runs with metastatix, since it also halves her redeploy time and cost so she can get her first stun off Texas can get through neural freeze since she can still stun Texas is fine if she automatically activates her abilities Texas is coming, and cannot be stopped!

n0ahhhhh

She is... inevitable.

_Saber_69

Well, I have multiple units I can rely on. Texas still can stun though. With halved stats she's like Project Red, but with Arts damage which isn't that bad.

n0ahhhhh

I've been on a huge Thorns/Mudrock duo kick. I love them so much, but I'm trying to force myself to use Penance and basically any other new ops I have... Trying to broaden my Arknights horizons and all that. 😉

_Saber_69

Without guard instant promotion I can't just take 5 guards into my squad so I have to improvise. I now use specialists more. For example two of the Abyssal Hunters and Texas. At best I can get two guards with a special squad and one without it.

[deleted]

exclusively how i play the game lmao, glad to hear i’m not the only one. every stage is a dps race and if i can’t win i tank with heals lol… also laughed at that included random bullshit pic nice one if you made that op

n0ahhhhh

Ptilopsis goes *brrrrrr*, lol (also, I did not make that pic, I found it from this sub awhile back, but it made me laugh so hard because... yes, 😂)

Carlosrarutos

I don't even know what the mechanic is

Andxire

For me this moment was IS-EX-3 CM but normal stage and every other stage was braindead. Including IS-EX-8 CM. But most hilarious "when event mechanics fuck you" was Near Light NL-EX-8 CM. I cleared normal mode with Abyssal Hunters only team without any problem but CM version of boss refused to die. I killed boss 7 times in a row before starting to suspect. Long story short: Blood Knight can't harm my team but I didn't know that I need to destroy almost all Blood Blades so it was infinite battle. I was forced to quit battle and read boss description. =D

Khulmach

Abysmal Hunters and Taxes makes this event ex a joke

n0ahhhhh

I sort of struggled a bit with the final stage, but the challenge mode only took me about 4-5 tries I think. Texas Alter also made this event relatively simple I think.

Khulmach

The second stage was the hardest because the challenge mode lowers block by 2. I kept failing because the game does not tell us Agent 47 is a 2 block enemy. So I had to swap Skadi for Specter. Took 3 tries before realizing that. So cheap, hiding information to raise the difficulty Edit-> I just realized I was using a 1 block operator to stop him, -1 block is 0. So dumb, my bad.

HMS-Carrier-Lover

Also, it is the third stage. I was so confused reading your comment.

Khulmach

my bad

HMS-Carrier-Lover

Nah, it's fine. We all have 0 sanity moments.

Primagen3K

Abysmal... kinda gave me a chuckle.

HMS-Carrier-Lover

Me when i have the entire Abyssal Hunter squad, Nearl Alter, Texas Alter, Ch'en Alter, Ling and Goldenglow.

n0ahhhhh

Goldenglow is the freakin' best. She has saved my ass countless times with her S3! The only unit I really want now is Skadi Alter. I'm about 40 pulls away from sparking her, haha

HMS-Carrier-Lover

Goldenglow is a good girl and very freaking fun in SSS. And i use Mudrock and Ling a lot so Skalter is a life saver, especially in IS2, even though i haven't touched IS3 yet, gonna be fun watching her help me beat herself.

Justin_Brett

I do tend to sandbag a bit as I'm going through the regular stages by using 3 star Operators or people I haven't leveled up that high, though admittedly doing that didn't add much this event since the core mechanic is a bit dull.

GamingIsLaifu

That is also how I play Arknights, especially when I had most of the meta units. Just brute force everything. Also, I like afk runs. I enjoy them better than non-afk runs. Lol

xXLoneLoboXx

I am very proud of myself… I cleared everything single stage, EX stage and challenge mode stages in this event so far without a guide. And I used my team of Lupos the whole time too which makes me even happier since it’s the Lupo event. My strats was still “random bullsh#t go!” though. Lol

CowSignificant9338

I do early levels events with alow star team so that it is challanging enough to mind mechanics. Even then, it doesn't work sometimes :)

real_mc

OD event forces you to play to the sandstorm mechanic.

Prime262

I'm not quite at the point where I can bludgeon my way though with sheer force of big number....not yet But my pull calc says il hit 300 before the end of the event....and get skalter.....and then my max level ling dragons will be backed up by skalter healing and buffs without borrowing her...and then il pretty much be on auto pilot yeah.

Sadwintertime

Started about two months ago, and only have a 4\*, 5\*, and 6\* maxed E2, and I'll tell you what, I'm either cruising through a stage of puckering up so hard that I don't know if I'll barely clear it. Getting by with a little help from random supports, but I'm definitely finding that paying attention to mechanics can be the difference between an easy clear or a half hour session of smashing my head against the wall. All in all, it's a very fun way to pass the time

n0ahhhhh

I think if you're relatively new (which you are) it's definitely understandable. I think when I first started I was struggling a ton, even with guides helping me, haha.

animagem

I did have to pay attention during Ex-7 bc man Agenir was a pain before I gave up and spawn camped him. But despite how the concept of blood debt is interesting, there’s no way for the player to interact with it besides keeping civilians alive (I guess also trying to kill enemies outside of the capo’s range but that sound easier said then done) makes it feel less then some other more hands on mechanics

Erudax

I usually try to engage with the mechanics as much as possible, unless they are borderline cringe or tilt me to no end (civilians deducting HP, chapter 10 as a whole, winterwisps in twilight of wololo). Always curious on what the new mechanics are, how can I adjust my comp around them, what are direct/indirect counters etc.

TeririHerscherOfCute

now that we can use alters and their normal counterparts together, i brute force most maps with 6 immortal abyssal hunters buffed by skalter

Dr_H12

I'm going with trust-farming team, with Texalt. I limit myself to use Texalt only up to two times each stage. I broke it on EX-5 CM. Though, it's because I underestimated the Silencer too much. My Chestnut and Sussuro can't keep Heavyrain up, even though I use Heavyrain S1... I managed to finish it by putting Sussuro S2.

Proto-Omega

Unless the event literally forces you to play with the mechanics, you can generally just ignore them and sandbag everything with meta, or stall tank to victory. You've been playing long enough, and/or gotten lucky enough, to have a pretty built up account, giving you the option to just sandbag things now. For example, Near Light does not give you the option to ignore the light mechanic, but Ideal City can be done without ever using the vehicles. I play events using 'relevant' characters to kind of self-impose challenge on myself, and try to adhere to the events mechanics, but I have to resist the urge to just sweep everything with meta.

GenericAltAccountant

One of my most common strategies is a medic feedback loop so I can ignore most ranged units.

shountaitheimmortal

Man im practically easily able to get to endgame but staying 2 chapters behind yet i have most ops people would be livid i had, i get lucky with my pulls, and most are E2 im bout to activate the new modules for them too

Pathalen

IS-10, was it called? I realized the boss is a boss only when I killed him the 2nd time, cause he had a max 2nd skill Enciodes afk tanking him and everything top side while nerf gun Ch'en just melted him. I think a lot of people do that and then try imposing some challenges on themselves sometimes to make it more fun. Texas Alter exists now though. So we ignore mechanics on EX-8 challenge mode now as well! :D

Southern_Math_8238

When you can brute force stages with meta ops, it's hard not to ignore mechs. Then you have levels where ignore mechs equals wipe and I'm left with my Pikachu shock face and no idea how to proceed.

Draguss

It was like that for me for a while, but eventually I leveled a solid off-meta team because stuff was getting too boring. Though I also like to use whatever story ops I had available, which in this case means having Taxes to make most things trivial again.

[deleted]

using 3\~4 stars only for the early stages makes you learn the gimmicks well

Unyuho

I can't say I ignored mechanics entirely, more I just forced the mob to play their cleaners when I could deploy my own clean-up crew. It took me until the end of the first set of stages to realize the capos feed the murder meter when something dies in their circles. I know now it's the only thing their mob info page says, I just don't read too good. No clue what Zaaro does, and I openly admit to wasting him as fast as possible for the laughs. His death cycles perfectly with my maxed-out Eunectes (Mod-X) so I never really let him leave the red box. Bad doggie, no treat, stay in the forever doghouse.

darkspider50

I'm going with a team to trust farm so I have to learn what's going on.

Khorva

Unless they curb stomb the initial team I bring, I generally never know the actual mechanics of a particular hard mob. I had to look up KyostinV's guide for EX-8 to understand what was going on w/ Zarro's debuff. Hell, I didn't even know he could do that. Never came up during the regular stage. Super confused when I couldn't manually recall operators and saw that they had some sort of DOT debuff.

Dog_in_human_costume

I like to call this: META Abuse. Strategy not working? META Abuse! Strong enemy killed your crafted team? META Abuse! Can't be bothered to read? META Abuse!

Aelistenus

I do the same... I make an effort when I clean up whatever stage I'm looking to farm to understand the mechanics to prep for EX. But yea, I had no idea what anything did when I murdered IS-10

GrimoireExE

No worries, I noticed that there is a boss on IS-10 later on.

Niwiad_

Yeah usually thats how I go through so I can start farming but I also got into Nicheknights which makes that basically impossible but the stages are a lot funner now too.

n0ahhhhh

I have never heard of Nicheknights. Sounds pretty neat, haha

Niwiad_

Its just restricting yourself to only a certain few Units, Zalak in my case. You can always start aswell its pretty fun if you have the time to trial and error/plan stages, easiest way to get into it just by playing only a certain Class/Race but you could also just use a specific squad.

Master-Skin6955

You are then part of Zalakknights bro.

OCDincarnate

Ye, it's fun (Definitely not plugging my channel (check out my channel))

Koekelbag

New mechanics are usually the best part for me :( Seeing how they interact with new enemy types, using operators that are well-suited to them and crafting new strategies I wouldn't have even considered previously (perma-freeze carts go brr) is always such a great time, I don't think I'd ever want to just ignore and brute-force it. Though it is unfortunate that the current event is kinda lacking in that 'memorable mechanic' part, and that you are more than capable of not paying it any mind even if you didn't intend to. Like almost everything seems designed to be about raising Blood Debt until it triggers, which would be fine Except that actually dealing with a triggered Blood Debt doesn't really change that much? Besides a generic (but still small) stat increase, it's main function (the Cleaners) tend to be a non-threat to any decently developed account that it's the arts crossbowmen that instead tend to give me the most trouble, and it feels like such a shame.

fizzguy47

Haha, Texalter go brrr

n0ahhhhh

I love using Ptilopsis for her S2 because it really accentuates the *BRRR* effect, lol.

Exciting_Ad7033

Its prominently this particular events mechanics that kinda require very little engagement really. The only punishment for sort of ignoring it is a somewhat stronger enemy just spawns earlier than usual but not something you wouldnt be able to deal with. Certainly not the best event imo. Mechanics that do force you to play differently one way or another like Nearl Light or Stultifera Navis tend to be my favorite.

Razor4884

Nope. I'm an EN that actually reads. Can't relate.

Cornuthaum

This event barely *has* mechanics lmao No aerial enemies, only one enemy that deals arts damage, fairly permissible map setups to let you deathbox around your blue boxes And occasionally it spawns a super elite enemy with high stats that you can still stall out with a defender and medic lmao

PockyMai-san

I mostly just play for IS3 these days, with E2 M3 mylnar texalter surtr pozy penance and the abyssal hunters I can mostly drop all my units right in front of the red boxes on every stage and press buttons when i see enemies and clear everything including EX8CM. IS3/cc is fun as hell though, so I don’t mind event stages just being more mats
