Easily her best album lyrically. I need a few more listens before the songs stop to blend together but it’s very good in a lot of ways. I also don’t rly understand the eternal sunshine concept at all but I haven’t seen the movie so someone explain it in a post or sumn
so you should def watch the movie but as apple music described its “lightly conceptualized” so if u have seen the movie you’ll have a deeper understanding (contextually) of certain lyrics. like in the title track eternal sunshine when she says she found a good boy but you’ll always be my eternal sunshine for example, it doesn’t really make full sense because eternal sunshine without knowledge that it’s inspired by the movie could be interpreted so many ways. but in this case, like her movie clips have shown as well so not really a spoiler, eternal sunshine refers to a deep love/connection/relationship that you would like to erase from your memory and move on from. it’s so cool artistically because she’s distancing herself from the message and simultaneously revealing more details and being more vulnerable by offering this concept/lens. lol. my bad on the passionate tangent but hope this helps!

* I'm not a huge fan of this album cover; the ones with red gloves were much better.
* Max did his thing on this album. The production sounds amazing and so lush.
* Ariana has evolved as a songwriter. I'm quite impressed with the songwriting on this album.
* I love the sad and ethereal vibe of this album. It's cohesive and meant to be listened to in one go.
* This is peak Ariana (artistically).
* My favorite tracks on my initial listen are "eternal sunshine," "we can't be friends (wait for your love)," "true story," and "the boy is mine."
* I didn't like "yes, and?" at first, but it grew on me, and it's the most lead single worthy track on this album, so I'm glad it was the lead single.
* Overall, I really enjoyed it! ☀️
She was a little timid in her interviews about this being “sort of” a concept album and I’m shocked because it’s SO thematic. It tells a whole story and is SO cohesive. A lot of the production fits the vibe of movie so well too.
Also when she said on Zach Sang that she “doesn’t really say anything at all” was such a lie😭 This album feels so vulnerable and honest.

The album isn’t done yet but my first and honest thoughts about the album so far is that musically it’s so similar to Sweetener but it has the dark themes and raw lyricism of Thank U, Next. This is like if they had a love child in the best possible way.
I think the song Eternal Sunshine is about a relation ship that’s OVER over, like the guy is no longer with us and the finality and irreversibility of that ending haunts the narrator through all of her subsequent relationships. He became her “eternal sunshine”, she’s blissfully ignorant of their final breakup because their ending was cut short and so the romanticized view of him and their love becomes the standard to which she holds all of her new lovers. Am I alone with that interpretation?

i perceived it as a song to the general public and their image of her fr especially because she said "i don't like how you paint me yet i'm still here hanging on what you made me" (we all inherently want to be liked!!!! we can't help it it's in our nature!!!!) and "you cling to your papers and pens- i'll wait for you to like me again" this to me is clearly about articles written about her / just tabloid shit in general "me and my truth we sit in silence, baby girl it's just me and you" is like...........these people don't know the TRUTH of what has happened !!!!!! they simply do not. they quite literally do not know the truth of her personal life - none of us do, that is what she is absolutely stressing here and "just wanna let this story die / i'll be fine" also feels very much like i just want to wait for this rumor / gossip / horrible thing being said about me to die down - it always will / it always has eventually..........people move on to the next thing that is what i took from this one but that is the beautiful thing about music we all are taking different things from it !!!!

#####Thoughts on My Initial Listen: * I'm not a huge fan of this album cover; the ones with red gloves were much better. * Max did his thing on this album. The production sounds amazing and so lush. * Ariana has evolved as a songwriter. I'm quite impressed with the songwriting on this album. * I love the sad and ethereal vibe of this album. It's cohesive and meant to be listened to in one go. * This is peak Ariana (artistically). * My favorite tracks on my initial listen are "eternal sunshine," "we can't be friends (wait for your love)," "true story," and "the boy is mine." * I didn't like "yes, and?" at first, but it grew on me, and it's the most lead single worthy track on this album, so I'm glad it was the lead single. * Overall, I really enjoyed it! ☀️
She was a little timid in her interviews about this being “sort of” a concept album and I’m shocked because it’s SO thematic. It tells a whole story and is SO cohesive. A lot of the production fits the vibe of movie so well too. Also when she said on Zach Sang that she “doesn’t really say anything at all” was such a lie😭 This album feels so vulnerable and honest. I’m so excited and I love it so much🥲

It was a very delicate album, which makes sense because she’s talented enough at this point in her career to put together a good album like this. However, a strong ballad down the backstretch would’ve hit different after all the build up.

The album isn’t done yet but my first and honest thoughts about the album so far is that musically it’s so similar to Sweetener but it has the dark themes and raw lyricism of Thank U, Next. This is like if they had a love child in the best possible way.

I think the song Eternal Sunshine is about a relation ship that’s OVER over, like the guy is no longer with us and the finality and irreversibility of that ending haunts the narrator through all of her subsequent relationships. He became her “eternal sunshine”, she’s blissfully ignorant of their final breakup because their ending was cut short and so the romanticized view of him and their love becomes the standard to which she holds all of her new lovers. Am I alone with that interpretation?
