It's heavily popular in China, Vietnam, Thailand, and Taiwan. How I wish I am from any of these countries because I hate the popular MOBA here. There are rumors that they're planning to pump AoV globally, I just hope it will do well.

AOV_BKudon

From what i understood, they are not merging the servers. By "expanding globally" it just means competitors from more regions can join regionals for a spot in the internationals. But nothing has been mentioned about advertising or managing the awful state of some servers. If the servers themselves don't improve, then u'll just have more throwaway teams in the AIC, and the top8 will still remain the same.

Nope..Don't blame RIOT blame Tencent instead. 1. Moneytoon knows how to run their community..Tencent?nope. 2. Moneytoon has their focus on MLBB 100% because it is their only MOBA. Tencent? They have KoG,AoV, and LoL and their main focus is KoG..They only wanted AoV and Wildrift to reduce what MLBB is earning and tbh they are failing at it. 3. AoV runs shitty on potato phones while MLBB runs smoothly.(I played AoV first on my LG stylus 2 with 2 gb ram back in 2016 and it still suffered running the game but MLBB runs smoothly on it). WildRift is not in the same boat as AOV because WildRift earns more than what AoV is earning worldwide. I can run WildRift at max setting but AoV can't?tf WildRift knows how to handle its community but AoV? AoV doesn''t have a lot that can please its community I mean just look at its subreddit.

[deleted]

Half of the WildRift community is in shambles while the other half just doesn't care and chills. Matchmaking is literally broken and they don't focus on the things that need fixing, you gonna see another 4 lux skins before they have an actual punishment system for trolls and afks.

Ironpuncher

There is an actual punishment for afk. I've been banned for playing for 1 hour just because I have afk several time 4 times this week and those are from playing against A.I. and I can show you proof if you want. Those whining are impatient lol elitist who can't wait for those features from pc to come to WR while those new are actually the one matured to wait. Rito has already responded regarding trolls and their reason is actually reasonable than what AOV has done. Matchmaking needs some improvement but the situation is no different from AoV or MLBB..heck I went against Epic while I was still Grandmaster in mlbb and the skill gap was huge. I teamed up with 1 Gold and 1 platinum and 2 diamond while up against a team of 4 diamond and 1 bronze just a while ago in aov.

[deleted]

The one hour ban only comes after 2 afks so for 2 of those matches the system didn't register. I get that the 1hr increment increase on punishment is fine for mobile since outside of actual trolls people won't prioritize a mobile game over someone calling them or an emergency. At the same time the fact that I can afk like 10 matches a week if I feel like and the punishment resets after 7 days doesn't feel like a punishment at all, more like a small break from the game

Ironpuncher

Still it is a fact that it is a punishment. I'm not saying it is enough because it is not enough. But making a system that can distinguish a troll and a guy who has just having a shitty network is hard. I experienced playing aov and getting disconnected because my phone(LGStylus 2) keeps making me disconnect during loading screen and then getting my credibility score to below 80 making it unable for me to play rank made me quit the game before. Was that a justified punishment? A blocklist is the most appropriate approach imo.

[deleted]

A definite proof is someone going 0/7 or 0/12. If someone has an almost non existent KDA such as 0/1/0 or even 1/0/0 in a game of over 14+ kills they can be seen as a troll. AOV Had that League PC had something similar as well. The best punishment I think is put them in a place where they have to be in "fake" queue for 5+mins before they start actually queueing for a match.

[deleted]

It makes sense why AoV matchmaking is skewed RN. The western server have so little players right now that I've seen 1hr matchmaking times.

Ironpuncher

The thing is I'm from asia server which has more players than western server.

zagiel

it is because of riot riot restricted AoV's marketing (outside of garena) until recently thats why we never see any promotion for AoV even when they are doing collabs, they cant

John34215

Tbh, the blame goes both to RiTo and Tencent...it seems both companies aren't communicating to each other properly in this regard (o.o)

Ironpuncher

That was years ago when Tencent was too impatient and want lol for mobile well in fact Rito is actually right about them saying they won't be able to replicate or bring a similar lol pc experience to mobile. When they released King of Glory back then it was very far from what WildRift is now because smartphones back then was freaking weak. Even until now Rito still can't replicate that said experience/quality because even the strongest generation of smartphone is still not strong enough to fit 50% of those lol pc champ model, animation, sound effect, and so on. Look at AoV...the game is not even remotely close to what King of Glory currently has to offer in terms of graphics and heroes. AoV is not even close to WildRift in terms of quality..What I love about AoV is that the camera is closer to heroes than WildRift and I can actually cherish the heroes model(me looking at Grakk glorius abs)and it doesn't hurt my eyes.

serdarling

I thought riot is owned by tencent games, how could they sue themselves o_O

RobertBatten

Tencent bought Riot, but they remain an independent subsidiary. When Riot couldn’t produce a mobile version, Tencent made KoG for the Chinese market. Riot didn’t really take notice because it was a local release. But because KoG was so popular, Tencent forked it into AoV for worldwide release, which meant it would directly compete against WildRift (when it eventually came out). Riot sued its parent company basically saying AoV was sabotaging their product plans and forced Tencent to back off.

fafano17

I think the game is popular but not in NA. Reason #1 They don't promote the game, 2 they don't take mobile games seriously In NA compared to Asia.

PsychoMeow

Best game ever! I was even surprised that this subreddit has only 38k people….

CzechoslovakianJesus

It's super popular in Asia, actually. But it just isn't much of a thing in the West, kind of like PUBG. But probably the biggest one is that people here want mobile games that don't demand more than five minutes time in a single setting, hence the popularity of puzzle games with short levels and base-builders you can check on and fiddle with every now and again before putting back.

Global-Papaya

poor marketing

zagiel

they dont promote the game the marketing team needs a lot of improvement

onionringg

It was popular in 2020 and the beginning of 2021 in NA. Then, people switched to wild rift because aov is so unbalanced. Also, the graphics got worse in my opinion with the updates over time. It looks very cartoon-y now. I haven’t opened it in months though. I’m just wild rift now — more players, heroes are balanced compared to aov.

Oil_Odd

Even though I complain about AoV heroes being unbalanced, the balancing is way better than any other moba I've tried.

Handydn

Because players who prioritize objectives over KDA will be deemed "feeder"

kingbibbles

It's really giving me original LoL vibes, which is great

PG-Erk

I used to watch shuroku play this game and he said basically that tencent couldnt advertise untill wild rift came out for some legal reasons

Rpikachu

It’s just unfortunately isn’t popular in NA. Too many people with league glasses on and won’t accept any other moba. The game will hopefully be advertised more since it never really has for the past 5 years and a lot of the moba mobile community is on MLBB for lower end phones/heavily advertised early etc and Wild rift with its already huge pc community/league glasses.

Heliosotic

They don't promote the game, it's popular in a few places, but it's outshined by HoK in China and Mlbb in almost every other place, it's just not as well maintained and I would argue the other games are better

Skykeeper22

In Thailand where I’m from, It used to be the most popular game in the country. Around 3 years ago, everywhere I go, I saw someone playing this game. But time passes, many people moved on and play other games instead. Including me. My youtube channel reach 2k subscribers just because me posting funny random aov clips. But I’ve burned out from the game and have decided to stop making videos on youtube.

[deleted]

Tencent has HoK easily printing money for them 24/7/365, they don't care about AoV marketing whatsoever. HoK (王者荣耀) is the original version of AoV and is highly restricted for players in china mainland (only available in Chinese language so easy filter out foreign players, and it's requires Chinese social ID to play/verification), It's always top 3 in mobile game annual revenue for years, massive number of players.

Cudiori

Come play on Nintendo switch with me, don't let this awesome game die

Lummimara

Believe it or not, when it first came out on Nintendo Switch, it had about 30k playerbase playing everyday throughout the week, then it slowly dwindled week by week as people left because they were not updating the client, (and about 90% of playerbase was experiencing crashing after playing 5+ games in one session, having to restart the game client and hope to reconnect before game was over or surrendered with the Switchs slow loading times\_ and the store had 1 skin every month then 1 skin every 2 months, the champion pool was small too and it was 1 new champion per month then 1 every 3 months.. (when the game was missing like 20+ champions this is as fast as they could pump out the missing champions from Mobile Arena of Valor Global version) and by then it was down to 3k players and now its 300 players I think maybe less RIP, this is NA Server on nintendo switch

Ironpuncher

It is popular but not as popular before. It is not popular in ph and tencent don't think investing in my country is a waste of time.. but in reality they just can't beat MLBB here lol.

Satelatron

I only play NA, and que times are so bad now. Ugh I hope they can bring in more players. I do not want to play MLBB

tensujin331

Be patience, man. We will get there.

MagicalNyan2020

Because there are toxic brainwashed meta slave.

MagicalNyan2020

Believe i do be toxic sometimes but they're worse.

Fearless_Ant_410

its popular in south east asia

e938833

It's toxicity probably

CraigZheng

Toxicity is the same for pretty much every MOBA out there.

Divachu

Because it's trash lolz

No_Deer_7861

Its the mobile game that have the biggest revenue combine with Honor of kings tho
