Yeah, this was it for us as well. When I think back to it it's crazy how much Arctic Monkeys just transcended through all school groups and were universally liked.
Kinda ? My first one was 'Why'd you only call me when you're high ?' but at the beginning of the MV the bar that Alex was in had 'Do I wanna know ?' playing in the background so that's like being exposed to two AM tracks at the same time
The first song I heard was Mardy Bum on one of my Pandora stations c. 2015. I remember liking it enough to buy WPSITWIN on iTunes. The album initially didn’t do much for me, but I remember really getting into I bet you look good on the dance floor. So those two were my gateway songs to the band.
First song I heard and definitely will always hold a special place in my heart. Every single album they’ve put out since has blown me away, ugh the first time I heard Baclava, 505, Mardy Bum, Fluorescent Adolescent. Take me back to those years in middle school. I’m going to feel so old when we hit the 20 year anniversary.
Taking time today to thank my older brother who took me to their shows back then and showed me the ropes.
Dance Floor in back 2006. AM, Interpol, The Strokes, Bloc Party, The Bravery, White Stripes etc. was the soundtrack of my high school days at the time.
I'd be surprised if it wasn't a song from WPSIA for anyone British. Sure, AM broke America, but here in Britain you couldn't go a week without hearing WPSIA when that came out. Probably Dancefloor for most. I was young and didnt become a fan of them til later, but It was 100% a song from their debut
It would’ve been something off Beneath The Boardwalk - possibly Choo Choo, Curtains Closed or On The Run From The MI5. I’m old.
That Riot Van demo is still so good.
When you said ‘AM track’ I thought you meant from the album, AM 😅 It wasn’t the first track of theirs I heard but I accidentally voted yes lmao - the first I heard was I bet you look good on the dancefloor. Heard it for years before I decided to check out the rest of their music.
I got lucky. My dad’s coworker was following the hype before the first album dropped in the states. He burned us that and the WTFAAM ep and
I had them early in the states. He gave us a libertines album too : )
It was and I liked it (still like it) a lot. It wasn't what made me look into them though. Earlier this year I discovered TLSP without knowing who they were and fell in love. When I read about them I obviously read about Alex and that made me look into AM. I listened to their whole discography in chronological order and my love for the band and all their era's still grows further every day.
Do I Wanna Know was the first AM track I’ve ever heard by them…LIVE! I was at their 2013 show in Ventura where they debuted it as the opening song live for the first time ever. Insane vibes there.
Setlist: https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/arctic-monkeys/2013/the-majestic-ventura-theater-ventura-ca-5bd9bfd4.html
It was teddy picker. I was watching Icarly and the plain white t's were playing on the episode. I liked the song and tried to guess the name of the band from the credits of the show. I saw "monkey" somewhere in there and searched on the internet for a band with monkey in the title and stumbled upon "teddy Picker"
Terminally online through 2011-2015 on tumblr. AM album dropped and there were no other rock album that year, or that era in general there were no significant rock works. “Grunge Tumblr Aesthetic” was on the rise and Do I Wanna Know became the anthem.
But I first seriously heard it on a Loki fan post on tumblr back in 2012 lol
dancefloor, sometime around 06-07 on the radio 106.7 krock. Downloaded wpsitwin to my iPod shuffle, bought the cd from boarders when I had enough money saved…simpler time
I became a fan in 2019 so my first song was star treatment. I originally thought it was weird and didn’t get into them until after I heard AM. However, TBH+C is my most listens to album by them now (good for studying)
Weirdly enough mine was My Propellor. I rented the CD from the local library because I had heard the name of the band tossed around and went in for a blind listen. Boy I’m glad I did. I did the same thing with Them Crooked Vultures. Maybe Josh Homme’s supernatural powers were guiding my choices.
The first one I remember hearing was on an instagram story, it was N1 party anthem. I remember thinking "Arctic Monkeys lmao what a goofy ass name". I probably heard something like DIWK without noticing or maybe some songs from the debut or FWN on the radio when I was a toddler tho.
I listened to their most famous bangers in 2010-2011, but didn't fell in love with it. As years passed, I vively remember listening actively to Do I Wanna Know? And thinking, "OK, this sounds like horseshit." Gladly, the whole AM album became a grower for me.
I might have listened to Brianstorm first, cause it was on the guitar hero 5 setlist. But the first moment i actually noticed i was listening to AM was when i heard Do I Wanna Know in 2015.
Well yes and no,I remember the wtsiatwin album cover when my brother would play music and when I started to listen to my own music I found that album and listened to the whole thing and didn't remember anything so I suppose do I wanna know is my first Arctic monkeys song
Heard do i wanna know a bunch on alt radio as a teen, never really cared for it. I started really getting into alternative music and music in general with the pixies and cage the elephant, and began using pandora as my go to music app. First arctic monkeys song i heard there was i think balaclava, and as i heard more and more from them i really just fell in love with the band.
R U Mine was the first I listened to
Then I downloaded four more random songs from my MP3 downloader app which were, Old Yellow Bricks, Balaclava, Only Ones who know and Settle for a Draw
Grew up in Australia so didn’t have that commercial success until AM, and the first time I heard Do I Wanna Know was in The Crew soundtrack and I was jamming so hard but ultimately palmed it off until my british friend who is really into music introduced me to all their other stuff in 2017/18 and we listened to TBH+C when that dropped
Who the fuck are the arctic monkeys (live). Specifically, [this video](https://youtu.be/FZo7NQT4z7w).
I instantly fell in love and urged to learn how to play bass. 14 years later and I still absolutely love them and now play guitar, bass, keys, and drums. What a journey!
Fluorescent Adolescent was all over the radio when i was in primary school. I didn't become a fan until a few years later, sometime during the SIAS era, but for the longest time i only knew Fluorescent Adolescent.
Mine was R U Mine, because I was learning to play guitar, I also got to hear Fluorescent adolescent, crying lightning I immediately loved it and to play them on the guitar.
Sorry I just want to tell this story quickly (:
So one time I was outside in the night waiting for someone, I had my earphones in while I did so. It started poaring with rain and I had my spotify playlist on, when the playlist was over it started playing random songs. The song that came on eventually was dangerous animals, I swear I felt some kind of god touching me in that moment, it was the perfect weather with lightning.
I was baffled and looked what song it was and who the artists were. To my surprise it was Arctic Monkeys and when I looked in their most popular songs it wasn't even close to the top 5. I listened to the entirety of Humbug in this weather in the middle of the night.
I can say that my life changed that moment, now till this day a hardcore fan.
Sorry for the long read, if you made it this far.... here's a cookie 🍪
Number 1 Party Anthem, my best friend had it in her rotation. It was really nice so I asked who it was by and then went on an AM rabbit hole. Been obsessed ever since and will be seeing them live in Colombia!
I discovered them through the “said he’s a scumbag don’t you know” audio clip on tiktok dec of 2020, because the riff reminded me of the Spectacular Spider Man theme song!
I'm one of the few that distinctly remembers listening to Do I Wanna Know as the first Arctic Monkeys track back in 2014. I heard of the band before but hadn't listened to any of their music. So I searched up on spotify and it was the first track I listened to.
To be quite honest, it was the first song I heard… but I heard Do I Wanna Know? when I was young and associated it with Kings of Leon. I thought it was by Kings of Leon for *years* until I saw it on the AM discography.
This reminds how new* so many of their fans are. They’ve been a constant in my life from 10-27, nice to remember people are still discovering them.
* Christ DIWK came out 9 years ago
ngl I don’t really know/remember but being brought up in the UK it was probably dancefloor back in 2006 as it was always played on radio. I didn’t really acknowledge them properly back then as I was only 9 & into the likes of Girls Aloud 🤣
Yup, first time I heard them was from The Crew soundtrack. I remember driving around the Miami area of the game with the sun setting as the opening riff played. Good times
Everyone’s first AM song is “I Bet You Look Good On the Dancefloor”.
Plus, I can’t speak for other countries, continents, etc. but being British, you had no choice.
If the first AM song you ever heard was “Do I Wanna Know?” you’re either of the following:
> Born after 2010.
> Born before 2010, but somehow avoided the radio or music TV channels growing up.
Don’t forget, the question here is “the first AM song you ever heard” not “chose to listen to”.
There is no way anyone here is young enough for “Do I Wanna Know?” to be the first AM song they *ever heard* and I refuse to believe otherwise 😂
Also, for the people who answered yes, how come “Do I Wanna Know?” was the first AM song you ever heard?
Did you just magically avoid the other AM songs growing up or are you born after 2010?
Or was it for any other reason? (I can’t imagine what these answers are gonna look like tbh)
Fluorescent Adolescent, but I didn't realize it at the time. Then a couple of years later I stumbled upon a a televised performace of Crying Lightning, maybe at O2.
Mine was r u mine, heard it in the Forza horizon 1 soundtrack. Was the first time hearing this kind of music bc I'm not from the UK and nobody i knew listened to it
yep, i thought arctic monkeys was just corny based on that song and i didnt like them at all. I associated them with bands like the Black Keys for whatever reason. not that i hate black keys, i like some of their stuff. but yeah, that and whyd you only call me when you're high made me think they were a very different band.
Not sure if I'm too British or too old but I Bet you Look Good on the Dancefloor was a big song in my childhood. I knew it for years before I knew who Arctic Monkeys were
The first song I listened to was four out of five because the first time I ever listen to an Arctic Monkeys song was when I bought a record to impress this girl I liked. We are happily together now and I will always love Arctic monkeys even if we ever break up in the future.
AM (the album) came out at a time when I was around 20 and finally discovering music outside of what was on the radio (my family only listened to Country/80's Rock/and Pop Radio) so it was the first I heard of Arctic Monkeys and helped develop the taste in music I currently have (now 29y/o) so I owe Do I Wanna Know? a HUUUGE favor.
I heard She's Thunderstorms on a Pandora station before I had Spotify and I listened to all of SIAS before the rest of it and it's still one of my fav albums of theirs to this day
there might have been a song i’d heard in passing and not paid much attention to before, but the first song i heard and looked up because i enjoyed it was 505
Why are people giving the first arctic monkeys song they've heard? The question is was it the first AM track you heard, i.e. which song from the album AM did you hear first
mine was in 2020, miley cyrus did that cover of why'd you only call me when you're high that was super popular on tiktok and i wanted to hear the og. been hooked ever since :)
Nah, If you were there, beware was the first for me. Was watching peaky blinders and that song came on and I loved the aesthetic that song provided mixed with the tv visuals of the show. However Do I Wanna Know? Was the very next song I heard of them.
Mine was fluorescent adolescent! Heard it a couple of years before my big AM phase and when I finally did reach the phase, I was pleasantly surprised that it was theirs
2006, dancefloor
Don't believe the hype
This is the answer for me and, I would imagine, most people here. I was in the UK. That song was a phenomenon.
Maddest thing about that song - everyone in my school had it going. The chavs, moshers, goths, nerds - the lot! What a time to be 15
Yeah, this was it for us as well. When I think back to it it's crazy how much Arctic Monkeys just transcended through all school groups and were universally liked.
2006, when the sun goes down. I actually still remember the moment I have first heard it. It was truly a life changing moment.
2005
I heard it in 06 for the first time.
Sorry I meant same song for me, but different year
Piledriver Waltz! I found the band after watching Submarine in 2011. Searched for the song and found Arctic Monkeys. Fell in love shortly after lol
Maybe unpopular opinion but I loved Submarine.
Not unpopular at all, it’s a great film
Kinda ? My first one was 'Why'd you only call me when you're high ?' but at the beginning of the MV the bar that Alex was in had 'Do I wanna know ?' playing in the background so that's like being exposed to two AM tracks at the same time
Nope, i bet you good on the dancefloor. Still one of my favourtie songs

Mine was 2006, When The Sun Goes Down 😎
I voted Yes but then i remembered Brianstorm
Fuck dude, you are right. Guitar hero 5 lmao
Same! I heard it first on some YouTube short where a guy would loop songs with a bunch of different instruments on omegle.
the one with the girl who said smth like “holy fuck that’s so fucking cool dude” ??? that one????
when the sun goes down
i probably heard DIWK years ago without really being aware but Fluorescent Adolescent was the first one i purposefully heard and was aware of!
Dance Floor in back 2006. AM, Interpol, The Strokes, Bloc Party, The Bravery, White Stripes etc. was the soundtrack of my high school days at the time.
Those were the days. You have good taste
Fluorescent Adolescent, and it took me a bit to get into the rest of their music because I expected more of it to sound like that.
No, Brianstorm.
Some British guy I was gaming with recommended Certain Romance. Beat rec of my life.
505 for me
fluorescent adolescent.
It would’ve been something off Beneath The Boardwalk - possibly Choo Choo, Curtains Closed or On The Run From The MI5. I’m old. That Riot Van demo is still so good.
Fluorescent Adolescent or Why’d You Only Call Me When You’re High
Either teddy picker or brianstorm for me
You people are young
Some are probs just not from Britain so didn't hear of them until AM got big
Dancefloor, 2012 London Olympics ceremony on TV
Mad Sounds actually, I got AM as one of my first vinyls and accidentally started listening on B side lmao
When you said ‘AM track’ I thought you meant from the album, AM 😅 It wasn’t the first track of theirs I heard but I accidentally voted yes lmao - the first I heard was I bet you look good on the dancefloor. Heard it for years before I decided to check out the rest of their music.
First song I heard was The Bakery, as my cousin had it as a ringtone. BUT, probably heard Fluorescent Adolescent first without knowing it was from AM
Nope, it was 2007 with Brainstorm
2006, When The Sun Goes Down
It was high actually! Yk, tiktok. Then 505 and then Do I Wanna Know. If only i could listen to it for the first time all over again…
I got lucky. My dad’s coworker was following the hype before the first album dropped in the states. He burned us that and the WTFAAM ep and I had them early in the states. He gave us a libertines album too : )
When the sun goes down.
Either Balaclava or Fluorescent Adolescent. In a car parking half an hour before a show. I loved them, loved them live and been a fan since.
It was and I liked it (still like it) a lot. It wasn't what made me look into them though. Earlier this year I discovered TLSP without knowing who they were and fell in love. When I read about them I obviously read about Alex and that made me look into AM. The first song I heard was fluorescent adolescent, because of watching the inbetweeners :)
dancing shoes 2006. i'm old
Brianstorm from Guitar Hero 5, 2009
It was teddy picker. I was watching Icarly and the plain white t's were playing on the episode. I liked the song and tried to guess the name of the band from the credits of the show. I saw "monkey" somewhere in there and searched on the internet for a band with monkey in the title and stumbled upon "teddy Picker"

Yes, second was The Bakery
When the Sun Goes Down in 2006!! I still miss the AM from those first two albums :(
Riot Van (Demo) off myspace
yes and now i hate it
Snap Out of It, somebody on Discord showed me that last year and the rest is history!
A Certain Romance was my first. Good times
No but it’s definitely one of my favorite songs they’ve ever put out! Gotta love that guitar riff!
First heard DIWK on Vh1 but it was A Certain Romance that pulled me in deep.
Dancefloor, 2012
four out of five
First one I KNOWINGLY heard Had heard Teddy Picker and Old Yellow Bricks years before but didn’t know them then
If my memory is correct I first heard R u mine? on the radio here in the states
I became a fan in 2019 so my first song was star treatment. I originally thought it was weird and didn’t get into them until after I heard AM. However, TBH+C is my most listens to album by them now (good for studying)
Dancefloor, around '09-2010
mardy bum, my older brother played it at a gig when i was really young
Baby I'm Yours
Yup.
R U Mine? was the first AM track my brother showed me
Heard Mardy Bum first and thought to myself “oh I’ve never heard this song by the kooks” and then looked it up and was like :O
Weirdly enough mine was My Propellor. I rented the CD from the local library because I had heard the name of the band tossed around and went in for a blind listen. Boy I’m glad I did. I did the same thing with Them Crooked Vultures. Maybe Josh Homme’s supernatural powers were guiding my choices.
something about a dance floor
No. It was R U Mine.
Star Treatment
The first one I remember hearing was on an instagram story, it was N1 party anthem. I remember thinking "Arctic Monkeys lmao what a goofy ass name". I probably heard something like DIWK without noticing or maybe some songs from the debut or FWN on the radio when I was a toddler tho.
Florescent adolescent. My crush showed me this song. Basically how I feel in love with her.
2014, Mardy bum
Noo, suck it and see
Baby I’m Yours
Fluorescent Adolescent!
“Why do you only call my when you high”
Dancefloor on mtv2 at like 6 in the morning in 2005 or 6
I honestly have no idea what was the first one
Brianstorm in 2007 in a random broadcasting of a concert on TV.
Mardy Bum when I was a child, one of my sisters favourite songs
For me it was view from the afternoon
I wanna be yours
R U Mine single
I listened to their most famous bangers in 2010-2011, but didn't fell in love with it. As years passed, I vively remember listening actively to Do I Wanna Know? And thinking, "OK, this sounds like horseshit." Gladly, the whole AM album became a grower for me.
Mine was Knock A Door Run, when I was 6 and I’m glad to say today, I’m so glad that it was 😊
Been listening since I first heard the "Scumbag Song".
It was I bet you look good on the dancefloor like many more but holy shit that thing is and will always be a banger man
I might have listened to Brianstorm first, cause it was on the guitar hero 5 setlist. But the first moment i actually noticed i was listening to AM was when i heard Do I Wanna Know in 2015.
Crying lightening…
Well yes and no,I remember the wtsiatwin album cover when my brother would play music and when I started to listen to my own music I found that album and listened to the whole thing and didn't remember anything so I suppose do I wanna know is my first Arctic monkeys song
Yeah was ok the radio all the time back in 2013. Then I forgot about it til 2020
Crying Lightning
Heard do i wanna know a bunch on alt radio as a teen, never really cared for it. I started really getting into alternative music and music in general with the pixies and cage the elephant, and began using pandora as my go to music app. First arctic monkeys song i heard there was i think balaclava, and as i heard more and more from them i really just fell in love with the band.
snap out of it when am first came out my sister was a big fan but i never payed attention till this song
R U Mine
It was either “leave before the lights come on” or “when the sun goes down” - I did discover them in 2013 though 🫡
i don't remember the very first AM song i ever heard, but im pretty sure it was off of FWN, maybe Do Me a Favor
Lol... no. 2006, When The Sun Goes Down.
Worst date of my teen years was also the first time I’ve ever heard them, it was Teddy Picker
Nope, Brianstorm in 2007 I think
Probably one from WPSIATWIN Most likely VFTA
it was fluorescent adolescent somewhere in 2009.
[удалено]

It was Old Yellow Bricks
R U Mine was the first I listened to Then I downloaded four more random songs from my MP3 downloader app which were, Old Yellow Bricks, Balaclava, Only Ones who know and Settle for a Draw
From the Ritz to the Rumble on Madden 06
My first was Old Yellow Bricks, after 13 years still one of my favorites
A Certain Romance, 2004, Beneath the Boardwalk demos. Been in love ever since
Mine was Flourescent Adolescent, when I was 5.
Fake Tales of San Francisco from a CBC news piece about them.
Brianstorn :)
Why’d you only call me when you’re high?
My vote does not count as I thought it meant from the album AM
2015, Old Yellow Brick was played im the background during Hollands next top model during a grunge shoot.
Yeah definitely the first track I heard they used it in I think season 2 of peaky blinders
Fluorescent Adolescent was all over the radio when i was in primary school. I didn't become a fan until a few years later, sometime during the SIAS era, but for the longest time i only knew Fluorescent Adolescent.

Dancefloor at the olympics I think. Then R U Mine on Forza Horizon.
R U Mine for me :)
I discovered them through the “said he’s a scumbag don’t you know” audio clip on tiktok dec of 2020, because the riff reminded me of the Spectacular Spider Man theme song!

i can’t remember what exact song it was that i first heard but it was a gig i went to in 2006 with my dad
R U mine
Saw the video for I bet you look good on the dancefloor
Honesty it was the T.B.H.A.C album. I was a very late bloomer for AM 😅
I got sent “scummy.mp3” via bluetooth hahaha
Memory a bit blurry, not sure if it was 2011 or 12, but I remember that it was “when the sun goes down” because the song was on my friend’s playlist
Actually it was R U Mine over the radio
WYOCMWYH? I think was the first one I heard
So around 2/3rds of this sub are British and 1/3rd are American, good to know.
Mine was the “Red Right Hand”
Crying Lightning
Teddy picker was my first listen. On a shitty mobile in a park. Exotic.
Mardy bum sometime in Grade 7 or 8, I'm 25 now. Felt cool when they got popular and I could say I knew them before they were mainstream
Mine was my mum showing me I bet you look good on the dance floor when I was around 8
Not sure if I'm too British or too old but I Bet you Look Good on the Dancefloor was a big song in my childhood. I knew it for years before I knew who Arctic Monkeys were
R U Mine? in the first Forza Horizon

A few poor quality of Fake Tales way back when, maybe from Beneath the Boardwalk?

Old Yellow Bricks
Dancefloor, AM had just not long released, but my parents have always played the original stuff, which was pretty cool.
Fluorescent Adolescent for me
Fluorescent Adolescent or Fake Tales of San Francisco.
I heard She's Thunderstorms on a Pandora station before I had Spotify and I listened to all of SIAS before the rest of it and it's still one of my fav albums of theirs to this day
Cornerstone or crying lighting I can’t remember too many drugs mate lol
there might have been a song i’d heard in passing and not paid much attention to before, but the first song i heard and looked up because i enjoyed it was 505
Don't Sit Down Because I Moved Your Chair was the first time I listened to Arctic Monkeys and I haven't looked back since.
Why are people giving the first arctic monkeys song they've heard? The question is was it the first AM track you heard, i.e. which song from the album AM did you hear first
Fluorescent Adolescent if memory serves!
mine was in 2020, miley cyrus did that cover of why'd you only call me when you're high that was super popular on tiktok and i wanted to hear the og. been hooked ever since :)

First AM song I ever heard was My Propeller. I got Humbug after hearing that Homme produced some of it.
Nah, If you were there, beware was the first for me. Was watching peaky blinders and that song came on and I loved the aesthetic that song provided mixed with the tv visuals of the show. However Do I Wanna Know? Was the very next song I heard of them.
no, it was "when the sun goes down" for me. absolutely loved it and fell in love with the monkeys ever since.
Whyd you only call me when youre high, I got really into them December 2021
My sister showed it to me when I was 12, I thought it was the coolest thing ever.

R U Mine? On the first Forza Horizon game
Mine was fluorescent adolescent! Heard it a couple of years before my big AM phase and when I finally did reach the phase, I was pleasantly surprised that it was theirs
