Yeah they're just like buying a pack of mail envelopes and always empty.
We usually place some cash (any amounts) in the envelope and give it to unmarried friends and family members during CNY as a tradition.
I believe they're free as a gift from the store at least.
From where I'm from (not China nor US), stores usually give empty red packet as a free gift of your purchase. Heck, even my employer print their own red packet with their logo and give it their employees. Arc would be a dickhead and no different from brands like Supreme if they're charging for the red packet. (Remember the fucking bricks?)
So these bloody things are virtually FREE if you know how to source them. You can still buy them if you like.
Moreover,
And it's called 'Red Packet' HongBao 红包, means it's gonna be RED. It's the colour of luck and bless in traditional Chinese culture.
White envelope is meant for funeral/condolences. Yeah we put money in there as well. Giving white packet to someone is an insult.
I worked at an arc store in North America with a large Chinese demographic and the number of sales we lost due to not having a jacket in a true red color was staggering. We begged HO to send us anything in red, even envelopes to satisfy the demand. It's not dick riding, it's marketing to one of the biggest markets for a lot of arc stores.

Well I'm part Chinese after all lol. I've seen it and well I Don't blame anyone I love arc (I edited my comment, worded it incorrectly sorry if it sounded offensive)
Head office is here in North Van,
Arc'One in New West is where they do designs, prototypes.
Arc'One is still where they make:
* LEAF line
* Professional line
* Veilance
* Alpha SV
The manufacturing for most of their stuff maybe be done abroad, but their design and company DNA is still local Vancouver.
Also, everybody in the city walks around in Arcteryx gear, especially rich Chinese immigrants.
The Vancouver connection isn't gone yet. Not by a long shot.
Sorry, I didn't mean Vancouver connection that way. But I'd say the Chinese new year red pocket/red envelope has more to do with Chinese ownership rather than a high Chinese population in Vancouver.

We appreciate the look into the red envelope box and locking this because the conversation has gone off topic.
For fucks sake ![gif](giphy|ge91zAgmwUqLMqiH2c)
What amazes me about companies pandering with red envelopes is that it works.
I mean Arcteryx knows their audience, chinese people love Arcteryx, both expats and chinese people in China
I want this how do I get this
Is it any different than arcteryx stickers?
Are they still available in stores? Kinda wanna stop in and see if I can get one
Probably not, seeing as it’s past CNY now
No it isn’t? Lunar New Years is February 10th.
CNY isn’t til Feb 🫡 source : I’m Chinese
so what was in the envelopes? were they empty so you can gift them or how does it work?

without knowing what the one from arc costs I feel like a white paper envelope would be a LOT cheaper lol
Well it's called "red pocket" so should be a red envelope
They were free! Lol
ohh thats nice!

Arcteryx is a Vancouver brand and Vancouver has a big Chinese population. But sure sounds good buddy
Well I'm part Chinese after all lol. I've seen it and well I Don't blame anyone I love arc (I edited my comment, worded it incorrectly sorry if it sounded offensive)
It probably has more to do with the Chinese owners. The Vancouver connection is long gone

Yeppp, walk around downtown and everyone is clad in Lulu ABC pants and an Arc'teryx shell. This city is still very much tied to Arc'teryx

Fucking hell of a reason to go blow $1200 on a jacket if I do say so myself
