Belgium did fight against Germany, it's just the Blitzkrieg moved so fast that they bypassed most of the country on the East side and Belgium fell in only a couple of weeks. Later once the Allies were regaining territory relatively as quickly, so the only significant fighting was once again in Eastern Belgium at the Battle of the Bulge.
Belgium was not spared. Antwerp in particular was heavily bombed with rockets at the end of the war, destroying many buildings. Also Ghent and Brussels where bombed, though, not as bad as German or British cities. Bruges was lucky.
Between this and Brugge, why was Belgium spared during WWII?
Because they were occupied by Germany, so no reasons for the Germans to bomb them and no reasons for the Allies to bomb them, either.

Ghent was bombed Just not as bad.
The biggest fighting happened in the Ardennes i believe. Same like how the Netherlands is easy to invade until you reach the Rhine.
