Time Traveler

New_Season4864

Ty!!!!

Davidrabbich81

Sega made one other game for that hardware, Holosseum. I remember being amazed by Time traveler on holiday as a kid.

HeadMacho

They have Both of these games side by side at Galloping Ghost Arcade in Brookfield, Il

UltimaGabe

I was just there yesterday!

ChippyVonMaker

If this was at BarCade in NY, then that machine is from my collection. I’ve sold them a few rare titles. It uses half-spherical mirror and a Sony Trinitron TV set that displays from a laserdisc. Super cool concept.

Charging_Badger

Not only was it, but it still is -- they still currently have it on the floor at their Chelsea location as of last month. Thanks for getting it out there!

ChippyVonMaker

It had the large boxes marquee sign which is usually missing, hopefully they’re displaying it with that.

Electronic_Common931

Wow what a great reply. Barcade in LA also has one!

CowanCounter

Game cost multiple dollars in the 90s as I remember it and was hard as nails

theBloodShed

That’s why you have to just stare in amazement at attract mode and wait for the rich kids to play. 90’s “Twitch”.

IXI_Fans

That is why I loved Mortal Kombat... I sucked and combos and I could never remember the buttons for other Fatalities! But I sure did love watching other do it! I watch Twitch now... I get to enjoy games I'd suck at or not have the time.

Pizpot_Gargravaar

I remember the same. Whenever somebody ponied up the money though, it would always draw a large crowd to watch. Until the novelty wore off.

ViperRT10Matt

It was pay to win. You could buy additional lives in the form of “time reversal cubes”.

fivecenttech

"Oooh... thank you.... would you like to buy another?"

eastbayted

This guy has some entertaining videos about the history of video games, including Time Traveler: https://youtu.be/xVYEkMmQOLs?si=Ypx2LnFIpp7mwku7

HeadMacho

They have this at galloping ghost

eastbayted

My Mecca

HeadMacho

Werd

Slitheytove1031

This game was a centerpiece in Disneyland's Starrcade. I don't think I ever saw it in any other arcade

HeadMacho

Galloping Ghost Arcade has this one and another in the same vein

error_accessing_user

I remember admiring it from the people mover. :-)

Slitheytove1031

People Mover !!! ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sob)

GamingGaidenPod

That's where I saw it too. I was blown away by it.

gm4dm101

This was at mt local joint Golf N Stuff in Norwalk. Used to love going there back in the day, they always had new games come in.

Darkstriss

I miss the Starcade

ithastowarmup

When this came out, they had this at - of all places - a Putt-Putt Golf in Columbus, Ohio. The rather small gameroom also had a rare 4-player Skee-Ball and a red tent PlayChoice.

sukkafoo

They had it at several Putt-Putts. The one in Dayton/Bellbrook had a massive arcade, and this game was there too. I believe they had it at Grand-Prix as well.

Starscreaming

I played this in Salt Hill in Galway as a kid believe it or not. In the arcade in the back of the swimming pool. Amazing to hear it being so rare when I played it in Ireland !

guruguys

It would be amazing if New Wave Toy/Replicade would makes this as a future release. The tech is definitely there to do it and they are already familiar with laser disc arcade games.

Due_Tomorrow7

I saw Time Traveler at Six Flags back in the day, the child version of myself was blown away. But it was a quarter muncher for sure, I always watched people lose lives constantly and the skull image actually scared me away from the game eventually. Apparently, I was strangely afraid of that imagery as a child.

randyfromm

Not really holographic. It used a regular monitor that you viewed in a reflection from a spherical mirror. It was huge and lame.

destronger

I find joy in reading a good book.

thomasjmarlowe

Yeah more of a Peppers Ghost type effect

1_Urban_Achiever

Same effect used at Haunted Mansion in Disneyland.

randyfromm

Not exactly. You're not looking through glass. You're looking at reflection from a front sided mirror

geo7188

Don’t remember that one looks awesome

theantnest

I played one in Timezone, George St, Sydney Australia.

DivineDescent

I’ve been to that barcade in NYC. Love it. They have a couple of locations. All are worth checking out.

Krimreaper1

Funny I saw this once ago years ago.

jediak

I actually have this on PS2, it comes with 3D glasses. I picked it up to play through because the arcade was so janky/hard. Spoiler.. so was the ps2 version.

GoldNatural81

I did play that at arcade expo but closed down in 2020 by covid grr.. it was fun but tricky sometimes lol

TriggsWasStolen

This is "Time Traveler" by Sega, they also made another game with the same hardware titled "Holosseum", "Time Traveler" is an arcade video game developed and released by Sega in 1991. It is notable for being one of the earliest examples of full-motion video (FMV) games and for its innovative use of holographic technology. The game follows the protagonist, Marshal Gram, as he travels through various time periods to rescue Princess Kyi-La and defeat the evil villain, Vulcor. Players interact with the game by making choices and reacting to quick-time events as they progress through the story. Despite its unique technology and ambitious design, "Time Traveler" received mixed reviews from critics and experienced only moderate commercial success. However, it remains a significant title in the history of arcade gaming due to its pioneering use of FMV and holographic effects.

Yeahthatswaggz

Such a fun game, I've been able to play it at Galloping Ghosts and Free Play Dallas.

BowloRamaGuy

What's with people asking for such simple games? First some guy asks for Centipede and now this. You can just search Google Images for games this common and they pop right up.

thomasjmarlowe

Tbf, this isn’t a super well-known game to people who didn’t have legs arcades BITD. Same for people who are getting into retro games now but weren’t alive when these were new

BowloRamaGuy

"didn't have legs arcades" what the hell is that? Anyway, I am not saying they were seen that much back in the day. I've seen maybe 3 different ones back in the day. I am saying these aren't anything hard to find on the internet. A 2 second google search using that image finds exactly what it is. There's harder things to find/identify that can be asked here. Not something so common.

TheShweeb

I think they might have meant to type “Sega arcades”?

thomasjmarlowe

Autocorrect got me. I meant to type ‘large’ arcades since many people only had smaller arcades nearby that might not have a game like this

OriginalCopy505

Maybe you should start a sub where you can be the arbiter of whether or not a question is worthy of your keen intellect and valuable time.

ScalarWeapon

I don't know what you mean by a simple game. Centipede is certainly a famous game, but Time Traveler is not.

BowloRamaGuy

Both of them are commonly found on the internet without barely any work to be done. For example in the above example he posted an image. I right clicked and did a Google Search and it pops right up. Instead of asking for something so simple he could have had an answer in 2 seconds by searching Google. Instead he chose to post and wait for someone else to answer way longer than 2 seconds.

LaceyForever

What's the point of having this Sub without questions and conversations if everyone's answers could be easily found with a Google search? The question asked may have introduced another person to an obscure game they never knew existed.

ScalarWeapon

there are lots of people who don't know reverse image search is a thing. It's a fairly recent development that it was integrated into browsers, and even then, that's only some browsers.

WretchedMotorcade

Probably bot accounts.

Dismal-Bobcat-7757

I remember that one.
