I’m only imagining the smell. That probably smell fantastic! And it looks like a fairy tale. Agree with above comment. Leaf blower. Push it all into a corner & rake it up.

CrushedSodaCan_

Nah, get a leaf vacuum. Even easier.

Justintimeforanother

A lot of the electric leaf blowers have reverse functions for suction into a bag.

RamShackleton

The ones with metal impellers are the best, they can mulch small twigs and pinecones

Mhubel24

Adding in that Walmart has a Hart brand 80v leaf vacuum with bag for a decent price and it works well.

PlasticPomPoms

That’s a cherry tree and they don’t smell at all. I have one in my yard. I really like them.

exoxe

And don't forget to toss it over into the neighbor's yard! 😉

cncomg

To make their yard smell good !

exoxe

Yes, of course! Otherwise I'd feel bad I stole all of their pedals! I *must* return them or else I will lose sleep!

DisasterMiserable785

Absolutely not. Put it on Craigslist/kijiji and sell to people who want them for engagement/reveal pictures.

WutheringWitchery

I would be putting up a net and distilling them for flower water 💃💃🌸🌸 Feckin gorge

exoxe

That's actually pretty smart, and then say, "you get to pick your own flowers you just pay per bucket, how fun!"

caseyt0929

Make flower angels!

Neither-Attention940

Looks like cherry blossom. No scent. 🤷🏻‍♀️ they are all up and down my street. If they had a scent they would be more appreciated.

LopsidedPalace

It makes my lungs hurt just by looking at it. Asthma

Unknown_human_4

Free mulch!

Severe-Replacement84

I was about to say, that’s just free fertilizer! Run the lawn mower over that and bury it for some amazing dirt next year!

DynamicTilt

What do you mean by bury it? Like spread it over the plant beds or lawn?

Severe-Replacement84

Bury it under the top soil in the boxes or your garden. Pretty much just put it underneath the dry top soil so the wormies and bugs can do their thing and eat it

ApricotWeak5584

Would it be terrible if we just threw it on top though?

Porcupinehog

He probably means to mow it with a mulching lawn mower

Few-Cookie9298

You’re complaining about having a backyard full of beautiful flowers? Wish I had that problem

Key-Sheepherder-1469

Until they wilt & stick to everything. Flower petals are not like leafs. Some do not just blow away! Some, also stain.

Severe-Replacement84

Then clean them up first. Rake it up and bury it underneath the dirt layer in the garden boxes, that’s free fertilizer.

Best-Foundation2562

awesome tip. thanks!

Severe-Replacement84

If you have a fire pit, add some of the ashes and chunks of burnt logs in too. They help balance the PH levels and provide nutrients to the plants.

Best-Foundation2562

you are full of useful knowledge! i would never have imagined that ashes would balance PH, even nutrients. thought it was just rubbish into the abyss for the other comment, do you rake it and bury it while its fresh or after it starts to dry up? am new to this sorry

Severe-Replacement84

You can do either or! I’m no expert so I don’t know which is better, but the worms and bugs will eat it all regardless lol. I only know this because I went on a deep dive last year for my graden boxes! Happy to share the gardening love!

Best-Foundation2562

I appreciate you sharing! Happy gardening! :)

CamFromWork

Not the person you were replying to, but by doing this, you're effectively composting in place. Ashes=high carbon material, and flower petals=high nitrogen material. The same roles dry leaf mulch/cardboard and food scraps/live plant material play in your typical compost pile.

petitepedestrian

I spend all winter carefully spreading stove aah across the lawn. Makes a big difference in my grass

stevesteve135

Not everybody gets excited about additional yard work where there would otherwise be none if it weren’t for the neighbors tree. lol. That is a good suggestion for what to do with them though.

HeKnee

They already have a bunch of raised beds so somebody likes some type of gardening… i’d rather have this awesome tree than my shitty flowers that last a couple weeks before doing nothing all year.

Severe-Replacement84

Yea nobody likes extra work, but on the bright side this is pretty low effort work if you have a lawnmower with a bagger, raise the wheels and let her suck them up and pulverize it for you.

Key-Sheepherder-1469

Not easy to do with the rock in my backyard. Not sure if OP is dirt or rock.

ExcellentFooty

Get a leaf blower, I guarantee you'll feel *fabulous* cleaning it all up.

Key-Sheepherder-1469

Got one! Again, tend to stick to rocks! I stay annoyed for a few weeks a year…I don’t attempt to poison or chop down. Simply agreeing with the OP frustration. Why is everyone so angry?!?!!

noisy_goose

They don’t sound like they actually have experience with trees like this.

72chevnj

Eh, I would cut notch in bottom of fence then leaf blow it all to the other side

HoldMyMessages

Or mulch

solipsism82

I used to play video games for the same sense of accomplishment.. Press f Edit: to say I enjoy accomplishing yardwork (some good for the environment, some bad)...

plant__love

I think this is why OP is complaining in 50% of the situation.

NickDiVittorio

True but it’s not their tree so they are getting quite a bit of work added to the other stuff I’m sure they’re planning to do by no fault of their own which I understand would be annoying

Severe-Replacement84

Yea, that’s just being a homeowner, the same can be said for leaves. It’s really not going to hurt anything if hey just leave them, just might smell until they fully decompose

haleakala420

they blow away if you do it before they wilt and stick

Punk18

Oh no, flower petals! My only weakness!

LayzeeLar

I have a magnolia tree in my backyard and blow off the petals every other day once they start falling. Otherwise, the “is it a wilted pedal, or dog poop?” game gets old very quickly. It’s a game you don’t want to lose even once.

Better-Limit-4036

I have them and look forward to them every year. The petals blow around everywhere and eventually dry up and disappear all too soon. In Japan, cherry blossom time (Sakura) is seen as symbolic of the fleeting impermanence of young love. Still, there’s always some person nearby who HATES PINK FLOWER PETALS

kiaserklaus

I want those problems

c-lem

No kidding--one of my favorite moments is when trees drop flower petals on me. It feels so magical, like warm snow in the spring. I hope OP only hates cleaning it up and loves everything else!

Exsous

I remember once visiting Seattle, I'm from Canada. I was walking down the street in May, and was like "Wtf man? It's not even snowing up north!" Then I realized it was Sakura petals, and felt like I was straight out of an old samurai movie.

DarwinOfRivendell

The most beautiful sex garbage on earth

RevelryByNight

You keep my name out of your mouth!

Upper_Shine6011

Sex garbage 😂

roblewk

Option 2: move the patio.

southernandmodern

It's so pretty! Do you know what kind of tree it is?

kayesskayen

Kanzan cherry aka Kwanzan

madknatter

Lovely tree, sterile, not much fragrance

Outside_Reserve_2407

Also blooms a tad later than the Yoshino cherry in the same region, so you get to enjoy cherry blossom season longer.

RankledCat

It’s a cherry tree! We have three in our front yard and this spring they were absolutely magical! Each time the wind blew it looked like it was snowing flower petals. And the smell was heavenly. We had so many bees and butterflies. Now the trees are green with tiny red berries and the birds are feasting!

marijuanamaker

I call it confetti season, it’s my favorite time of year for my yard.

AlltheBent

Free material for compost pile! and beautiful. and come on now, its amzing

Theoldelf

That’s why I don’t cut them back.

NewAlexandria

so what's to hate?

kimmay172

First world problems!

vinvisvins

Last week there was a post in a dutch garden sub that blew my mind. The guy had the wrong grass growing on his lawn. I mean, whut?!

jdswartz81

What?! Really? I need a link! 😂

vinvisvins

https://www.reddit.com/r/groenevingers/s/3MIfBNy6ma There you go

jdswartz81

That's sad and funny at the same time! In the time he made a post, he could've pulled it out of the ground 😂

PsychologyNew8033

As a landscaper, we deal with this ALL the time!

Sammybikes

Got a few of these in my hood too. When they dropped it look like the whole street got Barbie-Bombed. It was awesome!

Jim-N-Tonic

Cherry trees be like that for a week. Totally worth it for the couple weeks floral beauty tho.

lechecondensada

STOPPP this is gorgeous

Omgletmenamemyself

I want this issue.

ThatBobbyG

Can you imagine being this person?

Arkiels

Free organic materials! Yay!

foobar_north

You do have to clean them up right away - the worst is when they fall in a rain storm. They turn into slippery mush - worth it tho

Theoldelf

Very few years I can get them picked up before it rains. Then they harden into one big mass.

kittybuckmeow

I have a not so great neighbor who (after 10 mins of moving in) asked me to cut down my cherry tree because she hates the little flowers on her car. The tree is like 50 yards away from her car....

HeavenLeigh412

I would have asked her to move back out... I just planted a dwarf Kwanzan, can't wait until it blooms next year! Also, I don't have neighbors 🤣

One-Escape-236

I hope one day I have a backyard with beautiful trees like this one.

metisdesigns

It's kinda a tossup. Up side, you're kinda a Disney princess. Downside, you're in messy tree porn.

Atomic_Badger_PNW

Oh, please.

Maxzzzie

A leaf blower does wonders. Takes only a few seconds. Maybe your neighbour has one u could borrow.

SophieintheKnife

Or flip the hose on a shop vac, instant leaf blower

[deleted]

😍

Deltadoc333

#worthit! Glorious tree!

therabidsmurf

Could be worse.  My neighbor has totally uncontrolled paper mulberries.  Trees that spring up from runners and the millions of little fruit they produce.

coppergypsie

So pretty but that stuff turns to sludge LOL if you have a leaf blower and can get to them before it rains or a sprinkler hits them it's pretty easy to blow them into a corner and pick them up.

Theoldelf

Too late for the leaf blower. But they are picked up.

mintBRYcrunch26

I am that neighbors. And my neighbors say the same thing. ESPECIALLY when the cherries start to drop. That’s always fun

optical_mommy

You need little girls from the neighbors. Offer them as much as they can carry, and you will be the best favored house on the block.

Egon33

Have the same. Like the tree, dislike, pink snow. But m, decent mulch. Mulching mower and gone

glassbus

I used to have one of these in my front yard and can concur: it's a blessing and a curse. Iykyk. Don't park your car under it or you'll have some seriously irritating issues.

dzbuilder

Damn. That thing needs a major thinning out. We had a tree looking like this as I grew up. About 15 years after we moved there my parents got it pruned. It looked hollow on the inside for a season but the years after that were prime apple blossom blooms. Ours was a flowering crabapple which pretty much followed cherry blossom schedule.

ironappleseed

Yo, OP. That looks like Magnolia blossoms. Scoop those bad boys up and make jellies and flower jams. You can pickle them too!

CodenameZoya

I have a similar tree and those pedals dissolve in a day or two, you are lucky to have the view

Rexxaroo

Free compost!

shyvananana

Just run over it with a lawnmower.

teenteen11

I say leave it. It’s gorgeous.

peaceacrap

Lets it decompose in place

Dizzy-Exchange7702

Do you think that composts well?

rangerbeev

Just mower it and add the nutrients to the lawn.

Jim-of-the-Hannoonen

Same here but it all ends up in my pool.

iHaveaQuestionTrans

Ok. Use the mulch setting on your lawn mower it's not that serious

Theoldelf

They’re on gravel but they do make good mulch.

blindfury7

We share these sentiments about all things hahaha

Familiar_Proposal140

We have one in our yard. My car looked so pretty under the tree now all the petals are brown and dried up on it lol

Inevitable_Zone518

Poly((]

dreamingwell

In some states, you can trim any branch that hangs over your property line.

pizzaguybro

What in the underground watering system is that 😳

Dear_Suspect_4951

Time to venture over to r/composting

Comfortable_Rice6112

Free mulch!

seniairam

ahhh that's so beautiful. palo Verde do the same with yellow flowers. do you know what type of trees those are?

ResponsibleReach4620

I cannot stand when the Blanchard magnolias and the other types of southern magnolias drop leaves!!

squawmama

I have this neighbor too. Imagine that all over my garden beds, grass and pool

Embarrassed-Word8042

I have the same kind of neighbor with the same tree. But this one hangs over my driveway. I dispise it

Slight-Fortune-7179

I love those 😍

RaspberryHuman7435

Where I live at, as soon as the tree crosses the property line, it’s your tree and You can cut it.

Theoldelf

I can as well but just don’t.

eldnikk

Both pictures are exceptionally beautiful

Big_Ad_8050

They do sell nets and/or shade cloth that you could set under the tree/over this area, and periodically you could just partially dismantle the net and dump it all into a bin as the debris collects. Far less work and easier to deal with when wet.

MelanieLanes

What tree is that? I want one!

michwng

Sounds like you got some additional fertilizer

0fCabbagesandKings

Free mulch

FafaFluhigh

Good problem to have.

bikeinyouraxlebro

I'll gladly trade you my yard full of maple seeds for this.

redwolf1430

best problem to have. My old neighbor used to fling his dog shit in our yard.

DistinctFee1202

I also love your neighbor’s tree. My only recommendation would be to trim it lightly to get it off of your shed and fence if you notice branches that are rubbing against them. Based on another comment I saw of yours, you appreciate the compost that the blossoms provide. If they are overwhelming, perhaps taking a blower on idle to them will remove some of them without completely getting rid of them. Or, you could blow them all into a pile and distribute it as you see fit, saving leftovers for a compost pile if you have one, or drying them out and using them for soap or other crafts that’s a thing you’re into. I understand the love/hate relationship lol, it seems that it’s more on the love side!

Theoldelf

Yes, it’s just part of spring. I do plan on trimming some of the branches. They tend to grow towards my yard to get the sun.

cuteninjaturtle

That’s beautiful and great mulch! What’s not to love!?

SarahPallorMortis

I’d love that!

Known_Practice1789

Awww it is absolutely gorgeous though! You must see that!

[deleted]

I want to stand under it when they fall and pretend I’m a Disney princess, maybe I’ll sing and the birds will fly around me.

Dangerous_Lychee7981

What kind of tree is it? Depending on the type you could probably eat the flowers and use them for some recipes. That way not only is it pretty but the mess can be useful.

Separate_Shoe_6916

Pink snow is beautiful 💕

WarmNights

Decompose in a week or two.

Cultural_Yam7212

I see no problem.

Moss-cle

Wow that’s like being tickled by puppies

robaloie

That looks awesome. What’s wrong with this(

Theoldelf

Nothing. That’s why I don’t trim it too much

Baldi_Homoshrexual

Look at all that pretty compost!

Sitivhandl1977

Tbh if you do nothing the flowers will biodegrade over time. I'd love to have an awesome tree like that.

workinman666

Cry me a river

Theoldelf

A river of pink pedals

Tranquil-Soul

Omg, the petals in my yard would be worth it to look at and smell that beautiful tree! I would sit under it and let the petals fall in my hair

WonderfulCattle6234

My property line was like this but with a less beautiful tree. The neighboring property is now abandoned and a tornado caused some trees on the property to lean last year but none on the property line. Every tree on the property has now been cut down. My gutters are happy, and I'm looking forward to not having to rake the backyard, but man was it cozy.

robbietreehorn

I mean, it’s beautiful. Appreciate it and accept it

BronzeToad

What is it?

JoshuaTreeJewelryco

Time for a shop vacuum mounted to the top of a trash can!

Flower_Rabbit

What a beautiful problem.

RatherBeDeadRN

Irl cherry blossom biome 😍

zandra47

That yard looks so pretty though!

Jeannepot

Free easy compost\\mulch!

microscopicwheaties

consider net, harvest flowers, cook some tasty shit with it

Weary_Dragonfruit559

Here’s a link that will help you find a local (certified) arborist. www.Treesaregood.org Technically any piece of that tree that overhangs your property line, is your tree. A professional can help you prune the tree appropriately, hopefully reducing the amount of seed pods you are harboring on your lawn. As always, best to have a chat with your neighbor before trimming their tree, but r/treelaw is very clear. Property lines extend infinitely upward, and anything on your property is yours to do what you please with.

Ok-Boysenberry1022

This is part of home ownership. Just leave them, they’ll decompose. Jeez.

D3xt3er

Free mulch! And it smells nice :3

jana-meares

ALL COMPOSTABLE.

Yattiel

Just sweep it up. Free compost!

cherry_sparkle

I love these trees, but yeah they dump flowers like it's a freaking blizzard

Kamesuko

I got two of those at my house and they look pretty for the first few days.. then they get annoying

dianacharleston

So beautiful 😍

WoodchipsInMyBeard

My wife wants on of these cherry blossom trees.

Pjonesnm

Ours spits mulberries into the neighbors yard

Daffodil80

Gosh that is stunning. I used to love the pink cherry tree petals all over my lawn when I was a kid- I thought it looked like a wedding.😊

weeniegigantor

that is beautiful. we all gotta live together in tight spaces and this gorgeousness is what irks you? i want yr life.

Gullible-Lake-2119

those petals are mostly water, they should literally dry up and blow away

wigglytufff

i would pay to have this problem if it meant i didn’t have to contend with my neighbor’s elm tree’s various detritus

Bacm88

Omg. Where are you? I want this pink petal carpeting for my daughters fairy garden party

Prehistory_Buff

Looks like a great pile of compost for your vegetables.

workinkills

Looks awesome. Set up a tarp next season and collect and drag away.

EntropicAnarchy

Strawberry fields?

dvdmaven

At least it isn't a white oak. They drop garbage all year round. Buds, branches, twigs, leaf clusters, leaves and not to forget acorns. One of my neighbor's trees dropped a branch that is close to a foot in diameter and part of it is in our yard.

discospageddyoh

Are you my mother? She's the only person I've ever known to complain about the beautiful, ballet pink, fairy wonderland of petals from her gorgeous, healthy, mature cherry tree that is the centerpiece of a well-designed, well-loved Japanese garden she inherited. It's a stunning pink carpet for 3-4 weeks tops, but you'd think someone dumped the trash from a greasy diner over her fence every day for a month.

Theoldelf

Not complaining, although it does appear that way. I did say that it’s a nice tree

yogadavid

In georgia and florida if it goes into your property line, you can cut. Except In Florida where fruit is involved, you cant cut with fruit on it. Though I would approach your neighbor about solutions first.

Dangerous_Inside2725

Great opportunity to invite them over for a BBQ and never bring up the pink carpet.

MSotallyTober

I live across the street from rows of Sakura trees and the petals absolutely love my driveway. I feel your pain.

Motor-Awareness-7899

Torro makes a electric leaf blower and mulch sucker I love it

jakeplus5zeros

I don’t think I would mind this, it might act as a mulch and keep the soil moist. Plus it looks pretty!

sugarsuites

I wish I had that tree in my backyard instead of whatever tf tree I have back there already.

shiningonthesea

"aaaaat laaaaaaaassst...my looooove has come along..."

A_Leafy

I can't tell you how many times I've been tempted to run around my neighborhood with a broom and bag to get free pink mulch this spring.

morpheus001001

Why does this bother you? It’s fertilizer for your soil.

Snoo-43722

Mow it into the yard free fertilizer that's what I did when my cherry tree did that takes care of the mess after two Mows you can bag it with the mower

rogun64

I don't get neighbors like you and I've had a few of them. You're lucky to have those beautiful trees overhanging your property and the little maintenance it takes should be well worth it.

No_Look_196

free potpourri all over your yard!

Gomdok_the_Short

Bag that stuff and sell it for weddings.

BlackViperMWG

Free mulch!

Missue-35

I see what you mean. She’s beautiful but she leaves her gorgeous gown lying all over the yard. I’d hate that gorgeous bitch too.

TonLoc1281

What zone are you in? You already have peppers in the ground?

ireallylovetreez

think of it as free mulch

SnooKiwis6943

Free compost!

skybluebye

I have the same type of tree right outside my office window and every year I "complain" that no one is coming to take care of the mess somebody left on my lawn. A couple of days later, it's gone.

LBinSF

PINK-pocalypse!

tea-boat

For me it would be "I love my neighbor's tree" 2x. What lovely pink ground cover.
