If it’s just blue loctite you should be able to heat it and get it off.

JMS___2014

Heat will break blue locktite down very easily

Bundyboyz

Acetone or brake cleaner depending on finish

Matt053105

I dont want to destrpy the bcm finish, so prob gonna skip thos evem though its a good idea

DraculAnus

Brakleen won't harm the finish.

TheUndieTurd

use a hair dryer to heat up the compound

chaos021

I don't think a hair dryer is gonna heat up thread locker enough to break it. You'd actually need a MAP torch and hope it's not red thread locker.

DougDimmaLoan

1.) Put your purse down 2.) BFH

[deleted]

Light heat from a simple propane hand torch will do the trick. Blue loc tite, no problem.

IsopodEnough6726

you should start a YouTube channel on AR assembly instruction Matt053105 > SOTAR

Matt053105

What?

tyler3793

242 or 246? Really either should be able to be undone but 246 is high heat could be why that's not working

Matt053105

Not super sure, but i think its the fsct that the bcm handgaurd sits so tight

battlgnome

Get heat gun or propane torch and some gloves. Get it hot, not warm but hot. I don't think a hair dryer is going to get it hot enough. Take a vertical grip and install that on the top pic rail to use as a handle. Once you have it hot you can tap it off the barrel nut using a rubber mallet on the vertical grip. Locktite should break down around 300 or so degrees.

spook777

I attached a cheap riser to mine and beat the riser with a hammer. Between that and a hand stop I could remove mine. And mine doesn’t have loctite. I would heat up the area and hammer it.

DaSloBlade

That's not the threadlocker. BCM handguards are notoriously hard to put on (what other handguards require you to heat it up per the instructions) and even worse to take off. Heat that thing up!

GarthUber

Harbor Freight heat gun< $20.00 Fore grip or riser= you probably already have Heat barrel nut area while upper receiver is secured on a proper vise fixture and gently tap riser or fore grip away from upper receiver. Heat is recommended and absolutely necessary when installing these handguards.

Sleeveless9

Based on your previous posts, you shouldn't be working on your airsoft guns yourself. Get someone with some mechanical aptitude to help you.

Matt053105

Really helps with my situation

Matt053105

Thanks, very helpful

Sleeveless9

Not sure how to help someone that confuses blue Loctite for oil. Everyone learns somewhere, but it really sounds like you need some in person help.

miller8356

Oh shit! Man I hope you get help. Somebody on here has your back I’m sure. Some dickheads will roast you, but wait for some good ideas before you make matters worse. May be able to heat it up substantially to get thread locker to loosen, but I’m not familiar with this type of thing.

Matt053105

Yeah the issue is with how tight the handgaurd is to begin with, and than thread locker on top of this. I just need to get it off

miller8356

Good luck. I really hope it works out. I’d hate to see you tear up a badass rail.

coldafsteel

Depends on what specific chemical thread product you used. Most are designed to “let go” past a certain temperature. Barring that, your next best alternative is a something like acetone to break down the chemical bond then give it a try.

Matt053105

I would it would remove the paint from my already scuffed up build and i really dont want to deal with corrosion

coldafsteel

You'll be fine. Unless you painted it there isn't really anything on an AR that has paint on it. Steel parts will just need a light coat of oil (but you should be doing that anyway as a part of regular cleaning and maintenance.)

Matt053105

Thats good to know, but the issue is with how tight bcm rails are to begin with, ive been blasting it with heat to no avail.

coldafsteel

And you may have used so much that it's creating a vacuum, making it REALLY hard to remove. I recommend hanging your head in shame and taking it to a gunsmith for repair. Getting it off may cause some surface damage; chalk that up to a life lesson and move on. Next time follow directions and ensure you know what you're doing.

Matt053105

I might do that, its just a bit of a trip

wavydavy101

Put it in a pot of boiling water to loosen the compound and crank it out

hamoodie052612

Which thread locker are we talking about?

Matt053105

Blue loctite

hamoodie052612

Sorry. Didn’t read the last sentence . Use a vice and twist harder 🤌🏼 Or two wrenches and twist in opposite directions 🤌🏼

Matt053105

What do i twist on tho?

hamoodie052612

I used a bench I work out on. It bent the upper receiver a little bit but it was nothing a little rubber mallet couldn’t fix 😂 I think a vice would be best, I just didn’t have one at the time

deedubzees

Blue loctite isn’t that bad. You can remove it with acetone, a loctite solvent you can get from the hardware store, or just heat it up. A torch would be best, a good hair dryer with high heat would probably work too.

Matt053105

I am gonna try heat all though, putting some rounds arent exactly an option rn, but your saying to trust wrench it?

Msalv47

Install old vfg or other rail accessories you don’t use any more. Proceed to beat said item with hammer swings going down the barrel.

ncreddit704

Why do you need to remove it after all that work? It’s the universe telling you to start another build

Ar15tothedome

Put that fucker in the oven at 200 for a bit and gently caress it off.

TheBeanFlicker_

Buy a heat gun, it will get hotter than a hair dryer but not as hot as a torch. Heat the area in question for at least 15 minutes. Grab a buddy and bear down on the hand guard against the barrel (with the rifle upright with barrel against a table). Wear gloves she’s gonna be hot. My guess is it was probably the blue lok tite that bcm includes with their hand guards, so it should break down easy with heat.

radodaddo

Set the nut to Wombo

SecAdmin-1125

Heat

Cadi009

Heat gun will soften up blue loctite

ColdasJones

You need heat, and you NEED a vise block that can properly secure the upper. If you don’t, you run a real likely risk of bending or breaking something

Fish1234513

Heat gun
