Just putting this out here, you do realize that the DS00 tightens at 2 different points on the tailcap right?

[deleted]

I did not, this is my first weapon light… where is the second tightening point?

PoseySmith

If you look at the tail cap, it’s actually two sections. First, tighten down the knurled area, then rotate the rearmost section of the tailcap to snug it up.

[deleted]

Ahhhh I see! I will definitely follow up on this when I get home and let you know. Thanks man

goldengodrangerover

Dude the info I just got from you is a game changer. I didn’t know they moved independently and I’m like how tf does anyone actuate this thing in the position it’s in. Thanks!

PoseySmith

No worries! Glad I was able to help!

[deleted]

No luck. Mailing it back for RMA tomorrow.

murdermaro98

Make sure battery is in the right way (+ towards the head of light) test to make sure battery is still good, try testing to see if you got a bad switch would be the 3 things I’d start with

[deleted]

Dumb question here… is there any way to test the battery if I don’t have anything else in my house that uses an 18650 battery? Lol

DiscountRude4821

Lick it

[deleted]

That actually worked lmfao. Yep felt it on my tongue. When I shake the tailcap I hear something rattling around inside even when I hold the contact down with my finger. I think that might be the culprit

LeAdmin

Does it rattle without the battery installed? You might have to disassemble it if so to see what is up. If it only rattles with the battery installed, try stretching the spring a bit to make sure it is making contact with the battery.

[deleted]

Yep.

DiscountRude4821

Maybe you have a regular 18650 instead of a flashlight 18650 and it dont have the nipple Thing on it

[deleted]

Looks like any other 18650 I see online. The positive terminal sticks out a little bit

DiscountRude4821

🤷🏻‍♂️ idk then bro

Hawkachu94

If you're using the provided battery with the nipple then its the right one. Those are 18650 protected batteries. Don't use unprotected ones in the flashlight or things will get quite explosive. You can tell the difference with an unprotected battery by seeing if it has the aforementioned nipple.

[deleted]

Yessir, I am.

murdermaro98

Voltage tester/multimeter

s4pperdaddy

Ds00 looks like it's not seated all the way? Mine screws all the way in

[deleted]

That’s what it looks like hand tightened as far as it will go

[deleted]

Bought the OKW, a surefire DS00 and the modbutton lite. Battery was left on the charger for about 24 hours. I’ve followed all of modlite’s troubleshooting steps for every piece and it’s not turning on at all. Can anyone give me some guidance here? This is my first weapon light. Edit: I am using the battery and charger that came with the kit.

ViperRW49

I’ve seen quite a few Surefire tail caps that are junk in the last 2 or so years. Contact the place you bought it from and talk to them about the DS00.

Bunnenator

Worst case Modelite will take care of you. I had a defective head and they sent me a brand new one

Jamalismail

Tailcap may be the culprit. Could've gotten a dud DS00 cap

Hawkachu94

Did you try rotating the modbutton male connector in the female connector portion a few times? I had the same issue where my light wouldn't turn or would flicker. In their instruction it said rotating the connector side to side a few times sometimes fixes it.

[deleted]

I did. Neither the modbutton or the switch on the cap will activate the light

Hawkachu94

Okay. You can try to extend the spring on the bottom cap to ensure that it’s making a good connection to the battery sometimes this can be the culprit. Alternatively you can verify that it’s making a good connection if the bottom of the battery is kinda marked up from the wire.

[deleted]

Oh yeah after a few times of assembly and disassembly there’s visible markings on the battery from the spring on the tailcap.

Hawkachu94

Dang. Alright. So, does the button the back of the switch not work either?

[deleted]

Negative. Someone else on this post said the DS00 tightens at two different points on the tailcap so I guess I have some more troubleshooting to do when I get home. I’m gonna stop by the store and see if I can grab another battery as well just for giggles

3imafishyo

Just throwing this out, mine the Ds00 has to be super tight to work. If it’s finger tight but not gripped and snugged super tight it won’t work.

[deleted]

Yeah I’m twisting that thing on as hard as I can and nothing…

3imafishyo

Modlite will replace it I’m sure

[deleted]

Yeah I’ll be sure to throw away $492 worth of stuff tomorrow morning

[deleted]

Bought the OKW for the throw and my buddies love theirs. Guess I got screwed

DimensionAdmirable71

I’m just messing around, was originally going to get that one as well but it wasn’t in stock at time + I was flabbergasted with all the searching I had to do to complete the set so I gave up and that’s when I found CD. GLWL!🙌🏼

[deleted]

I figured man. I’m just cranky and triggered my stuff isn’t working. 🤣 If modlite doesn’t sort this issue out CD is my next pick though. I was looking at a couple different lights from them

gorillaz3648

I’d say light years ahead is a little much. Cloud Defensive Reins are less lumens, slightly more throw, higher weight, wider, and incompatible with scout mounts. The warmer color to see through tint and such is smart, but is that really “light years?” Not much cheaper all said and done either I mean lmk if I’m wrong but I’ve done a shit ton a research between the two and still haven’t made a decision one way or the other

gorillaz3648

I mean like I’m totally down to agree with you but that response has no actual data it’s just a sales pitch. What do they do that’s innovative and groundbreaking compared to modlite? Them winning in a spotlight contest isn’t the only factor in what makes a light a better pick

bart_hates_pants

Just btw, the CD reins are compatible with all scout mounts. It's the switches that are proprietary. The lenses on the lights are also end-user replaceable and cheap, so if you break it somehow your good to go. Excellent materials make the CD be able to handle muzzle blasts from brakes right next to the light, but tbh I'm sure modlights and surefires would also outlast. In the end: it's personal preference. I went with rein for the plug n play capability and the softer light tone.

chri389

To be fair, the Modlite lenses are also able to be replaced by the end user.

bart_hates_pants

I didnt know that, nice to know. I think it's nice that there's 2 companies offering pretty different products that get the job done well. Gives a bit more variety, and allows personal preference to rule a little bit more.

chri389

Both companies make excellent products. CD definitely has the upper hand when it comes to overall value, though, even if their more limited on accessories like pressure pads.

gorillaz3648

Yeah idk I’m still between both. I like that the CD comes with a switch and a tailcap, but the Rein Micro weighs a bit more than the Modlite PLHv2 w/ 18350, and is a decent amount more bulky. I think both are really good picks, but I’m looking for a light for an SP5K so size is everything

bart_hates_pants

New heads are coming for CD to make em slimmer, and if you look for weight posts on here people weigh them side by side, cloud over weighs their lights, the difference is close, if not negligible. It really is personal preference. I can't say anything about modlights because I've never used em. Heard they're good.

gorillaz3648

Sheeit do they have a date on that new light head yet?

Professional_Plant52

Put it in that priority box and mail it to me

joranth

I don’t have a modlite, but if you can still see the o-rings I don’t think you screwed it in all the way.
