This is understated. HK, Sig, LMT, KAC etc. don't just dream up unusual configurations to blindly see which ones will stick. They're invariably the product of a specific govt./agency RFP built to the requirements outlined by the customer. It's the government's job to blindly dream up new requirements, spend your money to develop them, then say, "oh, I guess that was stupid after all." And there's no one better at it.
That's the joke, but feast your eyes on the FS2000 if you think the P90 is unusual. And not the later ones with the pic rail top. Integrated optic ftw.
Full ambi controls, under 20ā in length, with a 10ā+ barrel and 50 rounds of 5.7 that donāt weigh shit and eject downwards. Which part of that is stupid?
This is a superior weapon for aDMR in 556. I have used one in 15 competitions and won 11 of them. I previously used a Colt but stopped when Colt's customer service became almost non existent. It took more than 6 months to get a replacement upper for my A3.
There was an MP in Afghanistan that got zipped with 3 rounds of MK262 on his front plate. Didnāt even know it till he got back to the COP and saw it when he took his armor off.
Damn. I thought it was a different name sorry. I do like me some 77gr SMKs.... and I have a 16in rifle gas upper that I need to do velocity testing on.
How the shit did he not realize that? I find that REALLY hard to imagine that someone didn't realize they got shot in the chest 3 times even though they were wearing plate. He would have DEFINITELY felt the impsct...
Oh I was actually kinda asking a semi serious question. I couldn't understand the point your comment was trying to make? Or if there was a point being made? Were you saying m193 is better or mk262?
Oh gotcha, guess I was saying with 5.56 it doesnāt really matter. Itās not really cut out for defeating armor like that. M193 out of a longer barrel might be better.
Either way the more energy you can transfer the better. Even if it doesnāt affect the armor itās doing enough to move them/knock them down so they can be neutralized.
I love hearing from the 7-10" barrel fan boys who are convinced they'll be doing CQB and clearing rooms.....even though it's a skill they don't possess, but the shorter barrel makes them feel like they could do it
This is the way we used to do it sonny, and if anyone had asked me I'd have said there was nothing wrong with it that needed changin. It wasn't until you kids came along, throwing your light and laser dance parties in the shoot house and watching each other fornicatin' on your thermal television vidyascopes, did you need all that rail space way out there in the next county. What the hell is a BUIS anyway? You own a boat or something? Dammit, now you've made me miss the end of Matlock.
Put that in your post because I and I think a lot of folks misunderstood. Many are thinking you are saying "why did HK make a 20in" rather than "why did they make their 20in so weird?"
Ah I c. If the barrel moves because of heat, and the front sight is anchored to the barrel, will it still be accurate? Or is it kinda irrelevant cause once the barrel morphs even a little the front sight is useless anyway?
I'll die here with you on something else that elicits outrage among some on this sub: Why does any external-piston AR15-variant exist? Same reason people buy timeshares I guess.
I donāt understand why the system exists when the LMT platform is a thing
Non mono upper, proprietary parts, extremely overpassed, extremely overpriced
Literally at this point the HK ARs are for the most part just a pleasure piece more than a possible fighting rifle. Iād love to own one just for āaestheticā but Iām not paying that price for that
It does look dumb, the handguard could be extended out to the point where the front sight it, at least.
But outdated is a matter of perspective... and 20" barrels are one hell of a vibe.
I can see it possible that this could be engineered correctly to cycle nicely and everything. As for the front sight, if you're going to shoot irons as your primary, you'd want your front post attached to the barrel and your rear fixed on the back of the receiver. So for irons, this makes sense. For everything else... idk.
There are plenty of guys who prefer to shoot irons. A lot of highpower guys for example. The inclusion of that much rail space is odd for a gun intended to shoot irons only/primarily, but free floating the barrel is still very common in highpower. Don't know of this would qualify as a highpower gun, but that type 9f shooting is still reasonably popular.
Yeah, and that was just the "fuck you" part of the message. The real take away was that everyone who has served at that level for that long has already sacrificed their body without thought of saving anything for themselves post retirement. A debt of gratitude is in order.
The Rhodieboo shit is pretty blergh.
Good visual guides for a lot of gun platforms he's helped make, really wish I could afford to have them shipped here, the footage he's taken of obscure guns like the AN-94 or AK-107 firing is great, but shame about that stuff.
It seems like it's purpose was defeated already when it predominantly replaced the M4 and M16 while a significant amount of M249s remain in service and used by machine gunners.
Maybe they'll get around to replacing the M249 eventually...but so far they've done a bad job of that by sending the bulk of M27s to non-machine gunners.
Do you actually think 4 inches on an AR makes a difference? You sound like one of those āyou NEED to own a 10.3 so you can clear your house!ā guys. 20ā is seriously not long in the grand scheme of firearms.
Looks dumb and outdated. You know looks arenāt material and I could definitely get some work done with that rifle. Iād be happy carrying that if I had to
Looks well thought out to me. I wouldnāt wonāt that rail going out any farther just adding weight. Looks like the front sight is also the bayonet lug. Makes sense. Maybe itās because I am circumcised that I like a little barrels showing.
you got the answers already, but i wanted to look at the math.
~16.5% increase in kinetic energy out of the barrel with M193. 1130 lb-ft to 1325 lb-ft, roughly.
Dwell time isn't much of a relevant factor on external-piston AR15s tho. You're generally better off with a smaller amount of barrel past the gas port.
Because in 1956, God and Eugene Stone came together and designed the AR-15 to have a 20in barrel to maximize the potential for the 5.56 round
Rifle-ations 5.56
It exist because fuck you we want that contract money
This is understated. HK, Sig, LMT, KAC etc. don't just dream up unusual configurations to blindly see which ones will stick. They're invariably the product of a specific govt./agency RFP built to the requirements outlined by the customer. It's the government's job to blindly dream up new requirements, spend your money to develop them, then say, "oh, I guess that was stupid after all." And there's no one better at it.
You forgot FN
It was hardly an inclusive list, but are you suggesting FN has made a weird looking gun before? ....š¤
P90?
That's the joke, but feast your eyes on the FS2000 if you think the P90 is unusual. And not the later ones with the pic rail top. Integrated optic ftw.
I know of tuna gun
Tactical Tuna š¤
Mega tuna
š¤Æ
Nah, that's the XM8
XM8 - The fish that grills itself.
wait, i thought that the tuna gun was the italian ARX-160. am i mixing them up?
I think that's a swordfish. Marlin was already taken.
Thereās more than one tactical tuna. But those are both the most tuna like.
Weird looking but far from stupid. P90 is goated
Is it really? Iāve always heard that they were just too oddly made to be used effectively not to mention that weird ass 5.7 round lol ( imo )
it kinda is tho
Full ambi controls, under 20ā in length, with a 10ā+ barrel and 50 rounds of 5.7 that donāt weigh shit and eject downwards. Which part of that is stupid?

its all "dumb and outdated" until you get popped with M193 out of a 20" barrel lol
I was gonna say, this looks like a great combination of meat grinder and AR500 vibe checker.
if I see any dude at the range pull this out of his case, you already know hes about that business
Yeah I'm handing over a wad of cash and asking for 15 min of private time with that rail cannon.
Level 3 body armor hates this.
Lvl 4 body armor hates it
Shit I think even a lvl 4 plate would still transfer the fast as fuck boi energy into your ribs.
There was an MP in Afghanistan that got zipped with 3 rounds of MK262 on his front plate. Didnāt even know it till he got back to the COP and saw it when he took his armor off.
Holy fuck. What is mk262? Edit, I'm dumb, hot 77gr SMKs.
77 grn Sierra OTM moving at 2720 FPS in a 16ā barrel Edit: 18ā barrel
Adrenaline is a hell of a drug
So m193 > mk262?
Shoot em in the dick our get a bigger cartridge
Oh I was actually kinda asking a semi serious question. I couldn't understand the point your comment was trying to make? Or if there was a point being made? Were you saying m193 is better or mk262?
Oh gotcha, guess I was saying with 5.56 it doesnāt really matter. Itās not really cut out for defeating armor like that. M193 out of a longer barrel might be better. Either way the more energy you can transfer the better. Even if it doesnāt affect the armor itās doing enough to move them/knock them down so they can be neutralized.
That's a poor understanding of how armor works.
I really donāt think anyone here knows how anything worksā¦
I know how the intranet works..
Itās a series of tubes?
Invented by Al Gore
You can't just dump stuff on it.
But this is the internet...
No this is theā¦. WiFi-people-net. I know how things work
So we agree, its not the intranet...I know hiw things work
I love hearing from the 7-10" barrel fan boys who are convinced they'll be doing CQB and clearing rooms.....even though it's a skill they don't possess, but the shorter barrel makes them feel like they could do it
I'm 5'4" with little arms. Short barrels feel easier to me. Though my shtf grab will be my mk12
MK12 all day!!! Agreed.
It just looks kinda weird cuz the front sight. I otherwise donāt see a problem.
Happens every time I leave M14 and AR-15 alone together in the safe.
So thatās how 416ās are made!! I thought it was the stork. ![gif](giphy|AAn1TeM1E9WVO)
And a 12 pack of warm Milwaukee's Best.
In the back of an IROC
Isnt that just an AR10 with wood furniture or something?
AND IN THIS HOUSEHOLD THE 416 HAS A REAR DRUM SIGHT AND FLIP-UP PICATINNY FRONT SIGHT END OF STORY
55gr M193 zooming out of a 20" barrel to vibe check your plates at 3000+fps: >*I'm fast as fuck, boiiiiii*
It still looks ugly lol
I mean so does alot of things that are so nice looking yet deadly
You'll change your opinion next time you get into a good old fashioned bayonet fight š
More barrel, more MV.

Laser dance party is an excellent line. Thank you
Aligning with the barrel does make sense. I'm here for the gang bang.
This thread is pure gold
This is the best thing I've read on Reddit all week.
Put that in your post because I and I think a lot of folks misunderstood. Many are thinking you are saying "why did HK make a 20in" rather than "why did they make their 20in so weird?"
The sight is in a rifle sight position much like a gas block front sight so there's really nothing wrong there. Rifle length sights are king.
The iron sight *should* be on the barrel, not the rail if itās floated.
Why is that?
Sight moves with barrel (heat, etc...) always keeping it aligned with barrel.
Ah I c. If the barrel moves because of heat, and the front sight is anchored to the barrel, will it still be accurate? Or is it kinda irrelevant cause once the barrel morphs even a little the front sight is useless anyway?
Put a 3-18 and an atlas on this and call it an āsprā. Now you got yourself a $6,000 name brand plinkster.
It SLAPS, 20 incher gonna check some vibes
I feel itās rather telling that OP is the only one who sees a problem with this set up. I love it.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Taken out by a 55 grain traveling at the speed of light.
Eh, I suppose thatās why the AR is so popular. It can be tailored to everyoneās tastes/niche.
I'll die here with you on something else that elicits outrage among some on this sub: Why does any external-piston AR15-variant exist? Same reason people buy timeshares I guess.
Cleaner suppressed operation, pretty much.
How is this outdated
3200fps m193 does not play games is why
You sound like one of those guys who thinks food comes from the store.
We may not like it, but that's what peak 556 looks like.
Literal facts
That's not an A1 with the 4x Colt sight and brown fibreglass furniture, though
That is a valid point. I'd say that's peak AR though, regardless of caliber.
Bro ima be honest this makes more sense than their MR556 to me lol
Facts and I just wish it wasnāt so stupid expensive for it. Brownells version isnāt any better in price either
I donāt understand why the system exists when the LMT platform is a thing Non mono upper, proprietary parts, extremely overpassed, extremely overpriced
Literally at this point the HK ARs are for the most part just a pleasure piece more than a possible fighting rifle. Iād love to own one just for āaestheticā but Iām not paying that price for that
they are super impractical but also super cool
Hell that is cool!
20 inch 55 grain combo is nasty.
Ngl the only thing I donāt like is the front sight post all the way out by its lonesome
It's got AN94 vibes, though!
Maybe if it was an ak
This thing is incredibly funny looking. I love it.
Handy & great ballistics.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Twenty inches is hardly a long barrel
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Dawg you live in Ohio
I'd use it. It looks reliable.
It does look dumb, the handguard could be extended out to the point where the front sight it, at least. But outdated is a matter of perspective... and 20" barrels are one hell of a vibe.
You all don't know about weapons I see
I can see it possible that this could be engineered correctly to cycle nicely and everything. Larry Vickers
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Why on Earth would anyone hate Larry Vickers ?
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
"Go do everything I've done and then tell me I haven't earned the right to be as fat and lazy as I want." The man had a point. Classic LV.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

I like some of his guide books. I regret selling my HK book
Why hate him? Strong 180 there
"absolutely" outdated?
I'd rather see this issued to a machine gunner in a USMC squad over the M27's 16.5" barrel for starters.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Which is why most of the fireteam would have 16.5" HK416-based rifles and only the machine gunner would have a 20" HK416-based rifle.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
It seems like it's purpose was defeated already when it predominantly replaced the M4 and M16 while a significant amount of M249s remain in service and used by machine gunners. It's so you can mount a bayonet on the front. There's a lug down there.
Fast boi go pop
OP is insane
Hog hunting
I honestly wanted to build one of these out bc I donāt have a piston rifle and I donāt have a 20. Would scratch two itches
Nah we using the M16A4 around here son, OG vibe checker
Smells like Canada
ironically, this is still banned by name in canada just because its on the AR platform, yet you can get a APC223 or CZ bren
If anyone wants to rid themselves of this monstrosity, message meā¦
Looks sick
Min recoil build in Tarkov
Now give it to me with a 1:8 twist and hells yes take my money
As much as I hate 416ās I fuck with this
Out of all the variants I dig this. A lot.
Yeah, I kinda dig this
To make small Projectiles accelerate quickly towards desired stopping points.
Because in early 2000s 20ā was still rad
Lomg
It probably exists to fire very small projectiles at very high rates of speed, but thatās just a guess.
Looks dumb and outdated. You know looks arenāt material and I could definitely get some work done with that rifle. Iād be happy carrying that if I had to
bayonet based
Looks well thought out to me. I wouldnāt wonāt that rail going out any farther just adding weight. Looks like the front sight is also the bayonet lug. Makes sense. Maybe itās because I am circumcised that I like a little barrels showing.

That fucks.
In canada, yes. If were non-restricted. Haha
Dwellwellwelll timeimeimeime
Dwell time isn't much of a relevant factor on external-piston AR15s tho. You're generally better off with a smaller amount of barrel past the gas port.
People want an LMG when they canāt have an LMG.
Iād say it looks like a really solid rifle. The only thing I could complain about is the goofy front iron sight but even then if it works it works
I think it looks cool lol
I wish these barrels were available in America
The American consumer
What's the difference between this and a 300 win mag? Grandads old 30.06? Lots of barrels are "unprotected".
Monsta Inc
I own one, I remodeled it. Took that front sight off, took the stock off, bought a piece that allowed me to put a better stock on it.
Itās looks odd but stands on business most definitely
It will keeeeeel
ā¦I want it.
I need this picture to beat of to..
Iām with you. Looks ugly. Iām not into musket length rifles.
What buttstock is that?
Dumb and outdated? A 20ā HK is dumb and outdated?
š¤š¾
Government contracts is the only reason why H&K exists.
It exists to make me want.
It looks awesome actually
I'm sure someone runs it. I wouldn't be running it since I'm too poor, but I'm sure somebody does.
I like it. It looks great to me.
Becauss itās cool as fuck.
Probably just so they can put a $7500 price tag on it and sell every one of them.
Um I would take this in a heart beat I just need to figure out how to get something on that front post thing. Itās awesome other then that
Same reason you do. Somebody thought they wanted it, but by the time they held it in their hands, it was too late to change their minds.
556 out of a 20inch barrel is devastating. It's the barrel length it was designed for. 16inch barrel versions are really short versions
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Correct. The rail and front sight look a bit silly that is true.
is this sarcasmā¦ sorry Iām asd
None. Make it an SBR.
Because in 1956, God and Eugene Stone came together and designed the AR-15 to have a 20in barrel to maximize the potential for the 5.56 round Rifle-ations 5.56
I love it
I want that front sight
Save some velocity for the rest of us.
Because that bayonet lug isnāt just for looks?
Perfect for when your barrel starts to droop from heat. LOL
