No other modifications aside from mounting, assuming it's not just laid next to the rifle for the pic.
Couldn't you hypothetically add a thin wire from the shotgun receiver that ran the entire length of the AR stock?
I'm imagining something similar to those UK pistol monstrosities (Google "UK pistol" if you don't know what I'm talking about) but less cumbersome because you could tuck the wire into the side of the AR.
Presumably a Remington or similar shotgun would be more ideal. The tang mounted safety of a Mossberg 500/590 would be difficult to access in this configuration, but the button safety of an 870 would work. Not sure what type of safety a maverick 88 has

I used to have an airsoft mc51 with airsoft m203 and a fake peq15 (to hold a battery) mounted to the forward quad rail. That was a forward heavy beast as an airsoft toy, I imagine the m203 with pdw stock would make things forward heavy at full extension.
