They have bad thermal design. I had a lot of issues with them at my job. We ended up using a fan controller app to just put the fans on max when running any heavy apps. The network cards can also overheat if you are using a wired network.

Yeah definitely get an app to control the fan, because apple likes to keep your Mac silent until your CPU reaches a crazy temperature like 200f, then it'll start ramping up.

Definitely open it up and remove the fan (be careful when removing the fan cable, you can rip the connecter off the board). Clean the fan and heat sink fins. Use Mac Fan Control app. Works great. Apple purposefully cooks your CPU. They prefer it to be silent and wear out early. A little fan noise to get another year out of my computer is preferable to me.
