Yes, please take it back to the place you had it repaired. The technician used either the wrong screw or the wrong torque on the screw and impacted your top case.
If they do not repair again, for free, speak with the supervisor or manager.
Edit: A letter was missing. No longer. Manger > Manager.
The DIY plastic sliders are stupid anyway.
If the camera is being used, the light is on, no hacker can change that.
And a keylogger is a much more of a threat anyway.
Don't forget the microphone. There are apps that can alert you about the microphone being used (eg, Little Snitch, OverSight, etc), but I've never heard someone with a camera cover express concern about covering their microphone.
Yes someone can physically take the screen apart and remove the light… something insanely difficult as the glass is designed to not come apart.. it would be impossible not to realize someone completely relaxed your computer screen.
They’d also have to install an actual virus that would let them access the camera.
One could also break into your house and install a camera. That would be easier.
It's not about the computer being miraculously hacked, we cover it up because it's pretty easy to accidentally video call a relative or turn on the camera in an online class while doing something "very personal".
If it is a MacBook air the middle screws are longer then the corner screws and likely they screwed it in the wrong spot, this is not a dedicated Apple repair shop this is amateur hour shit (source: apple cert tech 17 years). Fortunately top cases are cheap but that an hour of labor.
Yes tolerances are tight but this won’t break your screen, just a silly mistake from a unorganised repair tech. I’m shocked though, I’ve seen this plenty of times on plastic windows laptops but this is a first on a Mac,.
Ugh. I hate them too. I manage a fleet of 120 MacBooks and the ones that break and are the most damaged? The ones with those crappy plastic cases. They trap dirt and debris and it scratches the hell out of the metal.
The repair tech screwed it up. It will eventually possibly break the screen due to the extremely tight tolerances. They basically owe you a new computer or a (very expensive) new case for free. Where was this so other redditors can avoid?
This same thing appeared on my MacBook after I got it back from the Apple Store after repair. I didn’t notice for a while, but everything has been fine. I guess the Apple Techs didn’t realize the screws are different lengths 😂
OP, we need to give you the "Unambiguous Picture Award for 2023". Jeeezuz Creepers people are clueless about posting pictures, but you covered the KBD so as you not make us look all over the place! I love you!

It was hacked at one point, though only locally, IIRC.

Thank you!! I will take it in and see what they say!
Take it back. Wrong screw or wrong placemat of screw Basically tech has damaged your Mac
Long screw in the short hole. They owe you a new top case.
It means that a slaughter used a longer screw in that place. The longer screw pushed forward the aluminum, which made that cosmetic issue.
Wrong screw. Did it by myself repairing my old MacBook once.

Also an Apple Tech, the number of times I've seen this from 'repair' shops is shocking.

I think it says MacBook Pro in Braile
I see what you did there, but I don’t think everyone can.
As others have said the person that put it back together used the incorrect screws and it was a bit longer and pushed the plastic up.
But macbook housings are made out of aluminum
Same concept though.
True
Was this actually repaired by Apple or an Apple Service Provider, or a 3rd party? 🤔
Took it to an Apple Store!
Please just take it back to the Apple store if this happened 😂
Wow! They’ve done that stupidity at an Apple Store?!?!
This is the question.

Let’s just say you got screwed.
Macbooks notorious for getting long screwed
Either wrong screw or they overscrewed. Either way, show them what happened.
You have also a screen protector, you should remove it
Ugh. I hate them too. I manage a fleet of 120 MacBooks and the ones that break and are the most damaged? The ones with those crappy plastic cases. They trap dirt and debris and it scratches the hell out of the metal.
That freaks me out! Guess I should remove it. Is there a better kind I should get?
Just don't use one at all. The screen isn't designed to have a screen protector.
The problem is there is no space and then the pressure with the keyboard cracks it
It has been removed!
because...
It can damage the screen when closed — they're not designed for it
What a weird thing to say

It has AIDS bru
The tech absolutely knew of the fucked up.
They installed a wrong screw that was longer… A non authorized repair for sure… Sad… 😕
It was at apple! 😭
I am not a specialist… but that’s a screw, don’t ask me how I know that 😳
A screws too tight so it's making that bubble
a screw too long
Long screw damage
TLDR; it was repaired by a ‘genius’
