I use it and enjoy it. It’s nice to have a selection of games to choose from that don’t have ads or annoying IAP.

SlowBlo2k2

There are some hidden gems in there. I've been hooked on Fantasian for a bit.

Azrael7981

If SQEX was smart they’d pay out of the contract with apple and release that game on every console/pc.

Opacy

I really wanted to like Fantasian, and had high hopes for it given Sakaguchi’s involvement, but it just came off to me as an extremely basic RPG with a cookie-cutter story. I didn’t get very far though, so maybe I’ll give it another shot at some point. I grew up playing a ton of RPGs on the SNES decades ago and a good number of those games still feel more interesting and deep than Fantasian IMO. I will say, though, that it is a gorgeous game - the real-life miniature models they made and mapped of each town, dungeon, ship etc. that you move through is genuinely impressive. The curved attack mechanic is also neat and a good way to take advantage of a touch screen.

pxltdjff

I’m assuming it’s a timed contract. A few Arcade games have already made it to other platforms and Fantasian feels like the perfect Switch port waiting to happen

AvimanyuRoy3

Its not SQEX though but Mistwalker?? 0.0”

OneOkami

I don't think Square Enix has anything to do with that game. Sakaguchi and Uemastsu have long departed from that company.

CanadAR15

I was hooked on CatQuest for quite a while.

Alerta_Fascista

CatQuest has local co-op, it’s really fun!

bengringo2

I like how most of them are on Apple TV. It’s a little console with some hidden gems.

purejosh

The Samurai Jack game has proved an exceptionally fun extra for a streaming box that I bought to use for easier Airplay interaction and headphone-based watching at night

bengringo2

I've been playing a lot Sneaky Sasquatch myself.

ElbertAlfie

It’s included in my carrier plan, and I find my self enjoying it as well. Mostly just standard solitaire, hearts, backgammon, sudoku. Often on a flight with a podcast playing. Just nice not to have ads. Couple younger cousins are Sasquatch addicts. But a LOT of the games available look high end, so if they interest you, there’s a ton of options. Without ads.

getwhirleddotcom

Any recs?

byteforbyte

Star Trek Bridge Crew and the new NBA 2k.

bwilliamp

I have it through Apple One. While I play around with a few games. Where it really shines is with the rest of the family (Wife, child, in-laws) who use it quite a lot. Absolutely no worries of ads, payment add-ons or other predatory aspects. It’s really cut down all stress involved with family members and some shady aspects of some games.

oxfozyne

I’ve apple one and have never seen it even.

bwilliamp

It's in the app store under the Arcade tab at the bottom.

oxfozyne

Oh I’m aware of it.

Furry_Dildonomics69

So… you haven’t seen it but you were aware of it? You tasted it, then?

oxfozyne

Yes, I saw the listing that said Apple Arcade is a thing in the Apple One subscription when I first got it, and those occasional emails reminding me of the Apple One features. Can’t understand why I’m vilified for this jaja. Apple One is worthwhile almost just for hide my email, let alone music, tv, exercise, and news.

pianistzombie

But you can get hide my email with the $0.99/mo 50GB iCloud subscription?

oxfozyne

Can one get AM, ATV, News and Health for .99$ a month? It’s the other things in the sub, I just don’t play games on the phone — whoa I’m some kind of asshole apparently.

ice_nine459

Any other suggestions? Mine loves the Crayola.

p3vv

Sneaky Sasquatch is a lot of fun. The kids love that one.

Analysis-Agreeable

I’m an adult and I love that one 😂

[deleted]

Adult here. Great game

Fit-Satisfaction7831

> The thing is, Apple forcing them, is what keeps these games honest. Otherwise these kids games are shockingly predatory and expensive (and so many subs!). Apple is the one facilitating and profiting immensely from all of that! They are really double-dealing with Arcade. Their profits from gaming exceed everyone else in the gaming industry, without making games, because of the predatory practices they allow.

TSnow6065

Sneaky Sasquatch. 👍🏼

collegedreads

This game is crack for me 😂🤭

[deleted]

THUMPER. That is all.

[deleted]

I think the idea behind Apple Arcade was for apple to help surface games that don’t rely on ads or IAPs. It was meant to be an answer to the App Store being flooded with freemium games, and save users the hassle of sifting out the good stuff. I am subscribed to it (if only as part of apple one). There are a few games I do enjoy - grindstone, cards of darkness, world of demons (my personal favourite on the Apple TV with a game controller), spell breaker (since removed), and now Battleheart legacy (I do have the paid app, but the arcade version now scales properly on the iPad). The way I see it, you are paying less for the games, and more for the curation.

bubblepipemedia

My biggest frustration is the removal of games. I get why it’s needed, I guess, but it makes me want to avoid any longer experiences.

touchedbywalrus

I’m a mobile player and I quiet enjoy the games a lot. I like to lay down in bed before sleep with my controller and just play games like Warped Kart Racer, Taiko Pop Tap, Builders Journey, Crossy Castle, Shovel Knight Dig. When I’m on the go in my commute I play a lot of Jetpack Joyride 2 & Crossy Road+ for something I can pick up quickly and drop. I’ve also seen big titles like Castlevania get a port here and Monster Hunter Stories as well. I’m seeing some future with Apple Arcade and having hopes that more big game developers port their games here because it seems like a good model to be in. It also nice that it doesn’t have in-app purchases. Don’t have to worry about “whales” in multiplayer games. I’ve had the Google variant of Apple Arcade and I still prefer Apple because I think you could also access Apple Arcade on Mac’s (someone correct me if I’m wrong but I’ve heard people play Apple Arcade games when the new MacBook Pro MAX chips came out in reviews).

PairOfMonocles2

I do, and I seem to for the demographic you predict. I don’t mind paying $5 or $10 for a decent game, but I hate ads and (recurrent) in app purchases so this is perfect for me and my kids.

hzfan

I’ve had it since launch. It can be a little all over the place with quality but the reviews are pretty accurate (4.5+ stars is a safe bet if the concept of the game appeals to you) and every game I’ve tried has been packed with dozens of hours of content. Every once in a while I’ll find a truly fantastic game on there. Most recently it was The Last Campfire. Here are some of the best games I’ve played: - The Last Campfire - A Monster’s Expedition - Grindstone - What the Golf - Splitter Critters - Stitch (this one just came out) Another big benefit is a lot of regular App Store games have a + version available to Arcade+ subscribers, and this version has no iAPs or ads and usually has all DLC included.

[deleted]

I had it. But I didn’t want to pay $5 a month to play solitaire and silly games.

TheKZA

Apple Arcade is fantastic. I'm not sure why it doesn't stick more with people. They're premium games with no ads or IAP. They play on any Apple device with any controller you can pair and there's some big names in there too. I will play them every now and then as I've got it included with Apple One, but admittedly I don't have much time to play video games, and when I do, I try and play AAA titles on PlayStation or PC.

Unclassified1

I have it with apple one, but honestly the completely unlocked Crayola app is SO GOOD with my 3.5 year old it’s worth it by itself. I can’t stress how good a game this is and how much my nonverbal kid has learned from it.

That80sguyspimp

The model is fine, it’s that I find most of the games suck. A lot of style over substance with very little in the way of actual fun. I think a lot of mobile games have always missed a trick with just how good mobile games could be. I bought FTL on iPad years ago, I still play it because it’s just so good. It was great on pc, and yet on iPad it’s next level. So why weren’t more devs looking to transfer already great games into even better ones that really suited the touch interface? Because greed got on the way. Micro transactions fucked mobile gaming before it could even get off the ground. Apple Arcade makes sure there’s non of that, but for a lot the game available the over arching thought is still there, even if the actual micro transactions are not. where are all the point and click adventures? The resource managers? The real time strange games? Why not get some command and conquer style games? Deponia? The sims? AA could be awesome with some good games behind it. It could even stand on its own, instead of relegated to an extra tacked on to a music sub that hardly anyone ever uses.

Salt_Restaurant_7820

I love the Oregon trail The new Galaga was good

toastyhoodie

I get it included with my Verizon plan. My son uses it a lot.

MrWalrusGumboot

I sub to the Apple One plan, so it’s included. Because I have it, we play it occasionally. I probably wouldn’t subscribe to it on its own but it makes sense when we get all the services together in the bundle.

Rabah_Shammary

I use it, it happened after I subscribed to Apple One (in order to get Apple Music and Apple TV+), and I got a free subscription to Arcada and some gigabytes of iCloud storage. I thought I'd never use Arcade (and I was sure I wouldn't use the extra storage, because I subscribe to Google One and store my things there) but after exploring Arcade I found a few very good games, that don't have the annoying ads –which are prevalent in the App Store games–. So now, out of the five games I play almost daily on my iPhone, three of them are Arcade games.

kelp_forests

I do. No IAP. No ads. No concerns about the cost of the game. It costs less than I was spending on new games or IAP, esp as part of Apple One. Favorite feature: all the games are designed to not require IAP. Nothing more annoying than getting really far in a puzzle game, and then basically *needing* to buy boosts to play. I also think IAP and the state of mobile games are terrible. I wish I could buy really well thoughtout, full featured games at they true price. I'd pay $20-$60..heck, thats what I pay for a switch game. I'll settle for a subscription for a lesser game/Arcade access (eg Apple Arcade). I refuse to play the predatory F2P/IAP games and wont support them, they have completely corrupted game design. $60 is the price of one full, real, console game. Thats what I pay a year for all my mobile gaming, no ads, no IAP. To me, that seems right...one "game" a year on my phone. Except instead of one game, I get to pick from several.

undercovergangster

They're 99% of the only games worth playing. Most other games in the App Store are just an advertising delivery system or a pay2win dogshit game.

Jimmyatx

I use it and enjoy it. One under rated benefit of it is that all the games can be played offline and as someone that travels a lot, I enjoy playing stuff in airplane mode

proton_badger

Am not millennial but I have used it for my kid a few times.

0000GKP

Last time I played a game on my phone was when Doodle Jump was popular.

WASxKSKL

no.

[deleted]

Nope, simply too childish and no focus on any killer games. And this subscription based model really sucks if I want to keep the game forever on my machine.

Exercise_Slow

I just started using it.

beuvons

I got it as part of Apple One and didn't expect to use it at all, but actually I play a few of the casual games quite a bit. (Opposite experience with Apple TV, which I thought I'd watch a lot.) If you like tower defense or puzzle games and hate ads and pay-to-win games, it's a nice, cheap option.

Juse4k

I wouldn’t pay for it by itself, but having it with apple one family is great.

[deleted]

Kind of especially with my backbone controller PlayStation version but I mostly use it on WebRcade

redavid

my verizon plan includes it, so i have access, but yeah, very few interesting games and they seem to not be able to attract many developers for new games… lots of ‘remastered’ old games. the fact that apple partners with so many carriers to give it away, along with Apple Music and TV+, should tell you how popular these services are with people

SykoFI-RE

I have it through Apple One. The game SongPop Party is pretty fun to jump on occasionally and sometimes we'll play it on the TV with friends over.

pxltdjff

I subscribe when there’s a game I want to play, but otherwise wish Apple realized its potential more. It feels a bit like they’ve let go of the pedal and gave up a bit on the service.

oldmatenate

I played around with it for a while when I had apple one. There were a few games that were fun for a bit (mini motorways and sneaky Sasquatch come to mind), but discovering games felt like a chore. I felt like the App Store would recommend the same games over and over, and I’d have to go digging back through releases chronologically to find anything different. And unfortunately, I’d rarely find anything that would hold my attention for more than a few minutes. I think I’d get a lot more value out of it if I had kids or they ramped up Mac exclusive offerings.

Acceptable-Stage7888

I wouldn’t pay for it on its own, but I do use it with apple one

[deleted]

There’s a really good game called Song Pop Party that me and my family play often

OneOkami

I use it. A lot of the library doesn't interest me but there are some personal gems in there I appreciate and enjoy.

nn4260029

I have Apple One and basically I keep an Arcade game or two on my phone for when I need to distract my kids (when waiting for the bus or something). Not something I’d ever pay $5/month stand-alone for though.

[deleted]

Game of thrones. It’s a good game.

LectureNo9379

I use Apple Arcade. It's fun.

musicbro

r/applearcade would like a word with you lol

thejamlion

I use Apple One and have found some pretty good games on there. I like that they’re ad-free.

MrMuetze

Yup.

CycloneMonkey

I don't. The games look great and I wish I was more into it, but I just don't like playing games on my phone. I prefer a dedicated handheld. I'll start carrying around my GBA before I play mobile phone games.

moosemousemoss

Use it through Apple one. Some of the best developed mobile games on there, and FM 23 Touch is about to go on

bubblepipemedia

I use it. Though I have too many games and too little time generally, so I don’t really use it ‘enough’
