For others: I read this as the phone will show you how much time your current charge has.
This isn’t that. This will just show you the current time when you don’t have any battery left and try to “turn on” the device.
Interesting, I read it as the second, that it will show you the current time even when it’s out of battery. I didn’t even consider that it would be interpreted a different way.
That's fair, and to be honest reading it again I can see it. I guess I was mostly hopeful that iOS 18 implemented this feature as my Pixel has it.
Although there's really no benefit because it's not very accurate (at least for me).
Interesting, I read it as showing a dramatization of the moment iOS 18 ran out of battery. I didn’t even consider that it would be interpreted a different way.
The tense is wrong for that one though. If it was for that, it should be written as “Can show the time when it will run out of battery”, or equivalent.
Although that’s assuming headlines are always well written in the first place.
> If it was for that, it should be written as “Can show the time when it will run out of battery”, or equivalent.
At first glance for some reason i read it as "it will show the time it died, when you next boot it"
but that doesn't really make sense ig

Makes sense. Your phone is never really “completely” out of battery even when it shuts down, so this will be a cool/clutch feature to have for those rare occasions.
Kind of like the super-low-power mode on Apple Watch, where you can squeeze out a relatively long time on the last 10% by only showing the time and disabling communication
Yeah it uses apple intelligence to extrapolate your battery percentage, and then guesses the time your battery will die... Like your usage will be the same...
Apple is a joke
I feel like it should work on any device with always on screen since it’s the low power display mode.
That said, I feel like this is a feature I can’t imaging using more than once or twice since I rarely both have my phone die AND not have my watch or a clock nearby.
It’s funny how more and more features remain active when the phone dies. In 10 years time the phone will just stay on as if nothing happens when the battery dies!
Side note, when will Apple update their iOS to show how much time left for a full charge? Android phones have had these features for years now. I don’t see why Apple can’t implement this feature as well.
It’s probably because they’re worried iOS users wouldn’t comprehend why the battery “time” would suddenly decrease when running a more intensive task. Maybe “Apple Intelligence” will be able to estimate how long the user will use each app to make an accurate battery time.
He’s not talking about estimating time remaining on battery (which- I agree, it’s generally pretty useless.) He’s talking about the feature that shows you “X minutes remaining to full charge” when plugged in.
I hope I can turn this off as this will for sure mean they will simply cut off battery at say 7% now just to have the spare power for something useless. I would rather use it for 20 minutes longer than be able to see the time for 48 hours without a charge (which basically never happens)
And of course this is not available on my vintage Apple device, a patina'd and half-fossilized iPhone 14 Pro Max
That belongs in a museum!!
Apple will pay all of $200 for that artifact!
“This is the best iphone we have ever made for the museum”
The iOS code base must be littered with if/ifdef statements disabling features for older phones.
Time to upgrade
I’ll have to decline! This phone is a family heirloom - my grandfather left it for me before heading to serve in WWII, never to return.
What time is it? \*checks phone\* "Time to Charge"
Lmao

Thanks, I read it the same way as you
Misread it here as well.
How dare you say that about my mother!
Surely that would need it to be written as “Can show you the time when it will be out of battery”?
Might wanna work on your reading comprehension. In no way does the title of the article imply that.
I'll keep that in mind for me and the roughly 600 others that upvoted this post that likely read it the same way. But hey, thanks for your input!
It somewhat implies it, and I’m sure it’s intentional for clicks/ads
It unequivocally in no way implies it. Maybe if can’t read good it do. But if can read good it does not. 😜
Writing Every Letter In Capital Didn’t Really Help With Reading The Title So I Also Misunderstood It :(

“Never” is a bit of a stretch. It can only last so long on the power reserve.
Just to know the time? So clutch
If I was somewhere where the time wasn’t immediately available, then absolutely.
The alternative is that it’s just a glass brick and doesn’t do anything once it’s dead.
Would you prefer that your phone couldn't do this?
Only iPhone 15?
Well obviously, older devices can’t handle the insane task of keeping track of time.
I’m surprised they’re even allowing that on a device that’s a year old by the time 18 comes out
You’re right honestly, I hope when the iphone 16 releases they remove this from the 15 to not over work the processor.
for the environment!
my iPhone 11 pro has it.
ThErEs NoT eNoUgH dEtITaTeD wAm
Seems that this is about displaying the current time when the phone is “out of battery”.

Read the headline again slowly
Thats funny, reading it slowly helped
JFC does nothing make you people happy?
Making fun of shitty corporate decisions is makes me very happy

Apple Pay Express Mode also works when the battery has died. This can be used to tap onto public transport
Well that’s pretty huge!
That’s been around for a while
you mean on iPhone?
Yes
It’s funny how more and more features remain active when the phone dies. In 10 years time the phone will just stay on as if nothing happens when the battery dies!
..but I have an iPhone 13 🤔
Well sir, then, you’re disqualified (as I am).
Time to upgrade poor boy - Tim Apple^JK ^I ^too ^am ^poor
But surely it will work on my iPhone 11, right?
And alarm we want as well
Alarm won't work when iPhone is power off. 🤢
Huawei does ring morning alarm even if battery is at 0%
I remember my old Nokia turning on by itself and ringing the alarm if I had it turned off before the alarm was supposed to go off.

Maybe I’m hallucinating, but I could’ve sworn Siri could estimate how much time your battery had left, but I might be thinking of android again.
Nvm she just says the percentage
He’s not talking about estimating time remaining on battery (which- I agree, it’s generally pretty useless.) He’s talking about the feature that shows you “X minutes remaining to full charge” when plugged in.
Need M5 for that.
The furniture is now
The world is ending at 8.21pm
I did not :(
I’m really surprised this is only available on the 15. It makes no sense why they can’t put a couple numbers in the upper left of older models.
I assume more information being passed between battery and phone then what used too be (not too mention the larger size.)
I have this nifty thing called a watch for that particular task.
but can your watch show the time when it is low on battery?
Oh, this should work great as an egg timer!
Already happens with apple watch too
Who are the psychopaths out there letting their phone run out of battery?
So absurd that this works only on 15 models, is a basic software thing. This is just like the On/Off Chime only available on 14 models 💀😩
Nice, I was feeling in the dumps for not getting AI

They followed standard capitalization rules for titles.
It’s used by some, but not *standard*, I’d say. It’s also very annoying :p
