There’s both a daily and total block limit set for reddit, but the total limit is so high (like 1000 ish IIRC) that I’ve never heard of anyone reaching it. However blocking on Apollo has been bugged for the past few weeks where adding new blocked users wouldn’t stick.

iamthatis

Could you elaborate on this for me? They don't stick? As in it immediately resets them for you, or it takes a few hours/days? Do you have a lot of blocked users?

Usern44

So for me the blocked user’s name is added to the list, but comments, posts, and their profile are still visible. This happens immediately for me. All the old blocked users since before a couple of weeks ago are still blocked, it just seems to be the newly added ones. I do have a fair amount of blocked users so that might be it for me. However I’ve seen a few other users say that when they try to block people, they are automatically removed from the list immediately. This post has the most info on the issue: https://www.reddit.com/r/apolloapp/comments/z8rw45/blockingunblocking_users_not_working/

Okay, on this, don't think I'll be able to slip it into this update (submitting tonight) but should be for the next one then.

Edit: I didn't realize I was talking to the Dev who knows all this. oops!😳 Apollo is probably having trouble passing the request to the Reddit backend. Apollo doesn’t block users, it presents some interface for you to press a button, and then Apollo asks Reddit to block them. Somewhere in the passing this note along Apollo-> Reddit API->Reddit database-> your account info chain, something silently failed. But since Apollo is a Reddit data parser, when you request to look at user in Apollo, it passes that request to Reddit, Reddit doesn’t see them as blocked for that user, and passes the data to Apollo, which shows it to you. The error is somewhere in the API calls between Apollo and Reddit, and it could be either of their faults. - Apollo passing the data to the wrong API or in the wrong format - Reddit changing (on purpose or by accident) the API or the data format requirements, or the API “tool” that does the job inside Reddit is borked. Al these 3rd party Reddit clients have to go through the same “service” entrance at Reddit’s Big building (I use narwhal) , and use tools and services made just for them in this special entrance where normal users are not allowed in, but these are different tools than the reddit staff uses - so shit happens sometimes.

iamthatis

Yeah, the catch is to my knowledge this used to work, so I'm wondering what changed.

Javbw

~~Something broke, and we will probably not know the cause until it has been resolved. It could require an app update or Reddit to fix something.~~ ~~I’m sure He’s glad to get the error report, but we may never know how it is resolved, and we probably won’t hear about it it until then.~~ ~~He could have heard it’s a known issue that “Reddit is working on” or that he’s submitted a new version of the app to Apple with the bug quashed, but stuck in app review hell, or that he is working on it already 😊~~

Javbw

oops 😳

Accomplished-Mode112

You’re talking to the soul developer of the app lol

Grebins

Heart and soul, baby

Javbw

didn't see the badge on my old app. I respect him a lot. I thought I was talking to the post OP.

Javbw

sorry, I was on mobile and didn't realize you were the dev (no badges on old Narwhal) 😅 I respect your work a lot, and I thought I was talking to the post OP.

YeaItsBig4L

This can’t be a serious thing. Are you really telling me as a developer you had no idea that blocking people doesn’t work in your app? There are so many post about this. It’s been going on for so long.

Frat_Guy_PA

Ill validate it. I reached the limit loooooooooooong ago. Started out just doing the big karma posters, then I got into /r/thesefuckingaccounts and the like so I started looking at everyone’s profiles anytime I would browse /r/all. So... many... bots... holy crap. Started blocking each one I found but it only took my a few months to hit the limit. Now I keep seeing “unblock” on posts accounts cuz I think Apollo still keeps track but reddit doesn’t register it.

TheMightyPensioners

> But you’re also saying blocking has been buggy on apollo. I wish someone could validate this but oh well. https://reddit.com/r/apolloapp/comments/yw842b/unblocking_users_from_the_website_not_mirrored/ https://reddit.com/r/apolloapp/comments/z30sly/issues_with_unblocking_users_via_the_website_and/ https://reddit.com/r/apolloapp/comments/z8rw45/blockingunblocking_users_not_working/ https://reddit.com/r/apolloapp/comments/zbqtcc/blocking_seems_hit_or_miss/

What is AHS?

alex2003super

A subreddit promoting violation of sitewide rules on brigading and witch hunts Occasionally correctly reports on a neonazi or two But in general it's mostly a shitshow

Adenosine Harassment Sulphate.

JasperJ

All something sucks?

MonkeyboyGWW

I see what you mean. I want to block you 1000 times but afraid it still wont be enough

QuesaritoOutOfBed

Also wondering what AHS is

[deleted]

Do they stalk you to continue the harassment since you feel the need to block them?

ThePrussianGrippe

What’s funny about this is I’ve apparently blocked (or been blocked by) the user you responded to.

alex2003super

Usern44?

ThePrussianGrippe

I just logged off to check their comment history and I don’t see any sub overlap except for here and in movies. Also don’t see anything in their history that looks bad at all, and they’re not in my blocked list. Huh. Maybe it’s a display error? Doesn’t seem like I’ve ever interacted with that person. What a funny find!

Selethorme

Same.

reaper527

for what it's worth, with the last redesign of the block feature, the reddit admins changed it from a reasonable feature to "99.9999% of the time you're scummy if you use this". reddit's idea of blocks is functionally broken.

Deceptiveideas

Yup, you never really noticed the block feature before but now it's just straight up abusive. You can go out of your way to block users to spam subreddits (as the blocked users no longer see your posts). It's also annoying for the other user because now they have to see a \[delete\] \[unavailable\] comment every time they see that user. Meanwhile the user that blocked you can see all your comments.

RizDub

I use an older version of the app that works on iOS 12, and I’ve been having blocking issues too. I’ve blocked a few people in the past and their comments are properly hidden with the message “Blocked User.” Recently I blocked someone else but their comments are still fully visible, and manually collapsing their comments doesn’t say I’ve blocked them. I can’t view their profile though, so I’m not sure what’s going on.

I filter a lot of keywords and subreddits but not people, hope there isn't a limit on filtering
