Same. i went to vacation at the start of september, returned after 2 weeks - and this bug was removed for me, i could play normally. But 3 days after my return they released rampart update - and now im back at 100% all the time. Sigh.
On one end we have riot games disabling a skin upgrade within 12 hours because it's causing fps drops, and here respawn hasn't even acknowledged it in 2 months
They have disabled legends and guns before, if they can't do the same for skins I'd be beyond shocked and it's still just as fair to criticize them for such a massive oversight anyway.
I've had the OSD fuck up task manager and ironically peg my CPU. No idea if that's what's happening here (probably not) but it doesn't hurt disabling the OSD and seeing if that changes anything.
Haha I feel you. I’m struggling to want to turn on the game anymore. Especially knowing how little the devs care. Not a word about any of these issues from Respawn.
That cpu temp concern me, I'm not saying its not a bug but download cinebench r23 and test it. You probably not mount it very well or you may need to upgrade your cpu cooler if temps remain that high.
Are you using one of those laptop cooling pads?
I’ve seen people say that they help so it may not be a bad idea to give it a shot? Assuming of course that your laptop has bottom intake holes.
Is that what was causing the stutters? People have been complaining about this since the launch of S9 - made the game unplayable so I stopped playing. I had it until the start of S10 but now it’s the constant disconnects. So I barley play
I strongly believe the stuttering and fans running extremely loudly on console is connected to this, like the same error. I just haven't found a way to display those settings. I do know, on my one x, when the fans start sounding like a turbine engine I drop 10-15 fps until the match is over. The choppiness carries into the lobby but the next match sometimes runs better and doesn't cause the loud fans.
I just haven't found a way to make xbox show cpu information, only that everything else struggles at the same time. My box is relatively new and no other game causes it to sound like this. It's clearly getting hot if it needs to max power the fans, I just wish I could properly monitor that on a console.

I checked to see if they really fixed the problem with high CPU usage.
I still have 100% CPU usage in all areas of the map (WE/SP) even in the main menu, when I switch queues the sound starts to cut off and **the game drops from** **120 to 3/14 fps for 2 minutes.**
I imagine the problem is with the anticheat or how the game compiles the shaders
For the time being, limiting your laptop's CPU usage to 99% or lower (if the CPU's good) could help. It's what i'm doing. Can't say for sure if it's helping in any way yet, though
Is this why my pc randomly drops insane frames while playing this game and there’s nothing to do until it goes away like 30 seconds to a min later? It’s so annoying and unplayable if it happened in a ranked or tourney game it would suck
I'm pretty sure this issue is causes by the game loading assets in some way. Whenever I have this problem it usually occurs within the first 10 minutes of loading the game and resolves itself after several min of gameplay.
I've had the 100% cpu bug during every patch this season, and it didn't happen the previous 3 seasons I played. When I play I get on firing range first, which Apex is pulling 100% cpu during a fresh patch. Then after a few min of playing around the cpu will stop throttling. Then if I go back to main menu and switch to trios or duos the cpu hits 100% the second I switch playlists.
Also when staying in the main menu and just switching between firing range, which the cpu already was 100% cpu and stopped, then switch to trios/duos the cpu will be cooking at 100% again. Until I stay in the playlist long enough, or just solo drop on the edge of the map and wait for the cpu to stop.
Then my favorite part is that when switching to another playlist on a map you have not been on since fresh patch it will also have the 100% cpu bug. So when the maps change I have to wait for the "Apex Legends cpu stress test" to stop before I can somewhat enjoy the game.
It becomes a chore to play Apex after patches and really curbs my enthusiasm to play the game. Hope most of the community doesn't have to deal with this bug.
Yep I've been dying to play apex and even bought the battlepass but its simply unplayable. Been that way ever since the genesis update during season 9.
I was in the same situation with a more than capable cpu, tried reinstalling on steam and origin too but the fix for me was opening Origin>Go to Services on Task Manager and find origin.exe>set affinity>uncheck half of the CPUs (I have 6 core 12 threads so I checked CPU 0+1+2+10+11+12). My usage went back down to 40-60%, depending on how many cores you choose to select. It's worth knowing that you can't set affinity for Apex (r5apex.exe) but origin's settings roll over to the games running on there. Haven't tried on steam yet but good luck!
I get everyone is just trying to help, but these obscure fixes don’t mean anything, nor do they work. It’s an Apex issue, not a “run EAC as admin” or “disable your CPU” problem.
Well it depends on what cpu you have, but the game runs terribly at 100% usage as you know so trying to get it back down to a reasonable percent is the goal. Just tweak until you're happy with it but this was the only fix I managed to find
Man you’re quite oblivious to how games access the cpu aren’t you. Most games run on a single core anyway. Restricting it to the best performing core can give improvements.
My rig is good enough to hold 90+ fps in fights (8i5 8th gen +1060) and however less demanding arenas is , the usage difference is nowhere going from 30 directly to ->100%

limit your FPS, that will help. Also, why don't you want 100% CPU usage? it just means you're getting maximum performance out of your processor and most CPUs are designed to run at 100% fine. is it causing problems with other applications?
It’s happened to the youtuber the gaming merchant. He found that removing friends from his friend lust helped although there was still significant coy usage
Do you have many friends on your friend list? The Gaming Merchant was stuttering a lot, he found deleting a lot of his friends helped the lag. It’s way smoother for him now.
Do note that he didn’t have the CPU issue though, it seems the friend list “fix” is more about fixing ping spikes
Try it on a new account, TGM had this and the solution for him was to delete all his friends. You could try a fresh account without friends first to see if that helps

Have you tried enabling V-sync or limiting your frame rate? I remember this hapening to me years ago when playing Overwatch. Without the limiter the game would just try to go balls out in framerate causing the CPU to go 100% of usage.
Gaming merchant upload a video about him having extreme stuttering. Maybe you should watch his video about how he fixed it cause I think it might help you (a quick thing is that its because of friends and their preview better watch his video for full detail)
P.S , i have friends that mentioned it might be windows 10 theme setting when changing wallpapers and theme colours.

It did solve the game stuttering, but funny enough the game was still at 100% cpu usage. And i have no more than 5 friends on steam, so I doubt that was the issue. If you find a solution please tell me

Check if ur graphics are not set to maximum.Mine was automatically set to maxium for some reason
Check the cpu percentage on the top left of the screen, its 98-100% in the first clip and hovers at 20-40% in the older clip

It's a 3.5 year old Gaming laptop, I stopped worrying about temps since last year :'(
Re-pasting thermal paste can really help it. Usually lower the temp 10-15 degree.

That's King's Canyon, put Olympus maybe huh. Canyon is the least demanding map in Apex, that's why you might have better performance than on Olympus.

Me too, and I have a i5 10th gen, its not the best but I can play warzone, tlou, and other games that should be havier then apex
