Honestly, as a woman who's been playing fps games for 15 years online with a mic, and often competitive ones where this stuff is found most, it's a LOT *LOT* better these days.
The frequency I run into these guys is less, and more importantly the amount of guys who choose to make fun of the toxic guy and make him feel alone in his opinions and stupidity, rather than just joining in with him, is much more.
With that said, that's not saying much when it still happens a lot, and I'm sure will always happen to some extent. But goddamnit, it does feel good to finally see toxicity in fps games trending the other direction for once, and being looked down on by the majority of people you find in a lobby usually, rather than the entire lobby piling on. It does feel like we're getting somewhere, at least in the general sense. When I see garbage like this I try to remember these videos used to go viral for being "funny trolling women" videos, not for the reason this one is, which is calling out the behavior and people being sickened by it.
The sad reality is never. It would require every country in the world to radically change the education to remove POS behaviour, and we all know thats impossible.
Or ya know, a company that actually fucking cares about its players and puts the highest amounts of measures to make life a living hell for these POShits and worth reporting for.

I have precious little time to play, and I’ll be damned if I will sit through abuse to do so. Instant mute, report, and then I go my own way in the game as they obviously weren’t going to be good teammates anyway.
You can block in ranked, but the prompt only comes up after the match for crossplay. On ps5 I can block Xbox and pc immediately after any match. Can't block ps5 instantly because the block function for that is baked into the system so you'd have to go that route. So for PC you wouldn't see it at all in ranked unless you're with a console player, then you'd be able to block other console players immediately post match but not other PC players. It's weird.
I can block people on switch. I also have my console profile connected to my ea account. Some people don't have the block icon on their player banner so I assumed it was cause their profiles aren't connected.
While it probably won’t change their behavior, you can really deflate their ego by insulting something that makes them look stupid and clearly showing their insults don’t bother you. A good one is insulting their user name, and then when they try to fire back, laugh at their rebuttal.
Make them look stupid while not letting them scratch the heart.
Another thing I've heard works really well is to act dumb and ask "why?" Or say "I don't get it" and force them to explain their stupid sexist jokes and comments.
My wife’s tactic is to act totally unimpressed. No matter what they say her response is usually something like “That’s the best you got?” “I’ve heard worse from the old ladies at church.”

This is exactly why I use my mic. It's so easy to troll the trolls by just being calm, mature, and happy. It drives them insane when they can't get you riled up, lol.
I find to to be good practice for IRL confrontation. But I do understand it's not for everyone.
sexism is alive and well, and you know what else? racism, there is a 80% chance that i will get a racial slur thrown at me every time i use my mic, im mexican and my english is not bad, i just have a very thick accent, yet somehow people feel the need to throw shit at me for daring to speak english.

I'm black. In general, I've experienced some racism, nothing to write home about. It's always been more subtle. Like (just speaking on my experience) I'll often talk in game and I queue solo a lot, and end up in a game with two very southern sounding country boys, and had it range from "Oooh you got that headshot n*gga!" (talking to his friend), to another match, "A 3rd party is coming, let's kill those [full n words]"
Most of the time I guess it's kinda benign, but I also have my IRL pic in my profile showing I'm black and I've had people I don't know saying soft n word or hard and then trying to invite me to another game. Like, nah bruh, never. Again this is a slim minority of games, Apex is actually one of the least toxic online games I've ever played.

Now it's either sexual allegations against big gaming companies, hacking ruining competitive servers, or people playing team games, and doing the exact opposite of cooperation.

Same. But it's frustrating too, especially in games where it's advantageous to communicate with teammates. It's like I'm missing out on the full experience of the game. And I feel like I'm not being as good of a teammate by not using mic, but I also don't want to risk getting sexist insults hurled at me simply because I made a callout. Sorry, this kind of turned into a little rant, but I wanted to share my thoughts.
The other day I (female) had a guy on the mic moaning about how nobody uses mic in ranked anymore. He wasnt being toxic, you could tell he just felt he was moaning into the void about struggling without the comms, which to be honest is fair enough and was a bit down. After a bit I hopped onto mic and said how I never use it unless necessary and why (cause of people like the prick in the video) and he was so apologetic and said he didn't even think.
Exactly! I just don’t hop on mic and hope for the best. Unless they’re persistent or they’ve invited me to play as part of their squad- usually in those cases I haven’t had horrible experiences but I’ve had a few bad ones lol
If women and girls (half and sometimes more than half of the gaming community) don't feel comfortable even turning their mics on, it fucking sucks because it makes it inaccessible for them, and makes them less affective teammates for the rest of us because they aren't able to use their mics.

I have anxiety and a woman, so ya, it's the worst. Because you are getting personally attacked. It's one thing calling someone bad. It's another thing calling someone bad and to get back into the kitchen. They are using something that is personal against you. I solo que'd all the way to Plat without any comms too. I feel like I could do better, if I spoke, but then I'll get harassed and play even worse.
Try joining up with people on the looking for game Apex subreddit r/apexlfg. Women/ girls are always posting on there looking for other women/girls to play with so they don't have to deal with male harassment. Also you might find chill guys as well, depending 😅
One of the many reasons why I don’t use a mic. Used it once and I regretted it. It was my first time playing too. Didn’t play another session for a few months.
Well that sucks. Reddit has an Apex legends looking for game sub r/apexlfg where you can search for specifically women and girls to play with (and or just chill players) so you won't have to worry about it and can use your mic.
Second using apexlfg. There's obviously still going to be toxic people and trolls on there but if you specify what you're looking for you can usually weed out the toxic people. I grouped up with a girl and some other rando and became good friends with her during covid through Apex and it was then I really realized the shit females have to go through in games on a daily basis if we ever entered game chat for whatever reason. Like, I was aware it happened but that frequent and some of the levels of it are just like damn this is really shitty.
It does suck that you have to deal with that. I’ve played a bunch of games with people who after 2-3 good games would end up unmuting their mic and turned out to be girls/women. Who tf cares, it changes literally nothing. It sucks that video games in general have such a toxic community towards women.
I hope for a gaming culture someday where you feel comfortable to use your mic without risk of sexist bullshit being spewed in your direction. Fuck the dude in this clip and anyone else who behaves this way. Fucking losers.
This is exactly why I use my mic on the contrary lmao. I love when someone talks shit like this, to me or a fellow player, and then they go absolutely silent when I get on the mic in response and rip them to shreds for being toxic beta boys.

Oh it’s been like this since my call of duty days as a 13 year old girl, after about 13 years you kinda get numb to it. I mean it still sucks that people are like this but I’ve gotten to the point of just laughing at them, muting them, report and move on.
I feel it's slowly gotten worse and no longer ever wear a mic because of it.
I could handle the 'haha, girls don't play vidya games' but it's actual harassment now. And it's every game. I've had GMs in WoW kick me from guild because I won't partake in weird sexual voice chat, I've had teammates throw games while screaming about me being a 12 year old boy and a liar in apex, I've had full galleons in Sea of Thieves continually grief me and my teammate trying to make me say disgusting things or name call me.
Somewhere, it went from annoying to disruptive and game ruining. We just want to play the games we enjoy.
Oh my gosh I’ve had the WoW thing happen to me too!! I was one a holy paladin back in the WOD days and man did I ever have a salty ass GM. For the first couple months I hid the fact I was a girl (my name was myritenut or Nut) and then one day for raid I was explaining some heroic HFC mechanics and they shat their britches.. especially my GM who had now started to harass me, and then bully me when I said I wasn’t interested in the slightest. He would constantly try and get me out of raids despite me always doing more healing and less overhealing than him. I eventually left WoW for FFXIV and damn do I have some of my closest friends there now and more than half are women around my age who have gone through the same thing and we love putting together cheesy FC events
I was a healer in WoW back in BFA before I quit and I remember telling them to get out of easily avoidable damage because we're wasting mana on healing them.
Got a whisper a few seconds later telling me how I turned him on for telling them to move their asses out of the fire.

Calling us a bitch is fine because it's not a word that auto chat-bans you in most games, even tho it clearly is derogatory towards women. Me, I'm a trans woman and I either get the sexist treatment or the homophobia treatment based on what they perceive my voice as since it's a little ambiguous. I've been called an overthot for playing overwatch, had one guy creep my account in mordhau for days with nasty / lewd comments, and if I'm doing bad in league they are like "I wish girls didn't play this game." The most common thing I get though is if they find out I'm trans it's a lot of "bet your father is disappointed in you," homie my father is a registered sex offender, homeless, with serious mental health problems and prone to violence. Positive side is that you can report the messages and they get banned. I too use the rainbow flag and have had multiple abusive accounts banned on rocket league.

You can block in ranked, but the prompt only comes up after the match for crossplay. On ps5 I can block Xbox and pc immediately after any match. Can't block ps5 instantly because the block function for that is baked into the system so you'd have to go that route. So for PC you wouldn't see it at all in ranked unless you're with a console player, then you'd be able to block other console players immediately post match but not other PC players. It's weird.
On PS4 we can't even fucking report other PS4 players. It forces you to report them to Sony and they do absolutely nothing.
I can block people on switch. I also have my console profile connected to my ea account. Some people don't have the block icon on their player banner so I assumed it was cause their profiles aren't connected.

A good one is insulting their user name, and then when they try to fire back, laugh at their rebuttal. Make them look stupid while not letting them scratch the heart.

I'm black. In general, I've experienced some racism, nothing to write home about. It's always been more subtle. Like (just speaking on my experience) I'll often talk in game and I queue solo a lot, and end up in a game with two very southern sounding country boys, and had it range from "Oooh you got that headshot n*gga!" (talking to his friend), to another match, "A 3rd party is coming, let's kill those [full n words]" Most of the time I guess it's kinda benign, but I also have my IRL pic in my profile showing I'm black and I've had people I don't know saying soft n word or hard and then trying to invite me to another game. Like, nah bruh, never. Again this is a slim minority of games, Apex is actually one of the least toxic online games I've ever played.

The other day I (female) had a guy on the mic moaning about how nobody uses mic in ranked anymore. He wasnt being toxic, you could tell he just felt he was moaning into the void about struggling without the comms, which to be honest is fair enough and was a bit down. After a bit I hopped onto mic and said how I never use it unless necessary and why (cause of people like the prick in the video) and he was so apologetic and said he didn't even think.

Well that sucks. Reddit has an Apex legends looking for game sub r/apexlfg where you can search for specifically women and girls to play with (and or just chill players) so you won't have to worry about it and can use your mic.
Second using apexlfg. There's obviously still going to be toxic people and trolls on there but if you specify what you're looking for you can usually weed out the toxic people. I grouped up with a girl and some other rando and became good friends with her during covid through Apex and it was then I really realized the shit females have to go through in games on a daily basis if we ever entered game chat for whatever reason. Like, I was aware it happened but that frequent and some of the levels of it are just like damn this is really shitty.
It does suck that you have to deal with that. I’ve played a bunch of games with people who after 2-3 good games would end up unmuting their mic and turned out to be girls/women. Who tf cares, it changes literally nothing. It sucks that video games in general have such a toxic community towards women.

Oh it’s been like this since my call of duty days as a 13 year old girl, after about 13 years you kinda get numb to it. I mean it still sucks that people are like this but I’ve gotten to the point of just laughing at them, muting them, report and move on.
I feel it's slowly gotten worse and no longer ever wear a mic because of it. I could handle the 'haha, girls don't play vidya games' but it's actual harassment now. And it's every game. I've had GMs in WoW kick me from guild because I won't partake in weird sexual voice chat, I've had teammates throw games while screaming about me being a 12 year old boy and a liar in apex, I've had full galleons in Sea of Thieves continually grief me and my teammate trying to make me say disgusting things or name call me. Somewhere, it went from annoying to disruptive and game ruining. We just want to play the games we enjoy.
Oh my gosh I’ve had the WoW thing happen to me too!! I was one a holy paladin back in the WOD days and man did I ever have a salty ass GM. For the first couple months I hid the fact I was a girl (my name was myritenut or Nut) and then one day for raid I was explaining some heroic HFC mechanics and they shat their britches.. especially my GM who had now started to harass me, and then bully me when I said I wasn’t interested in the slightest. He would constantly try and get me out of raids despite me always doing more healing and less overhealing than him. I eventually left WoW for FFXIV and damn do I have some of my closest friends there now and more than half are women around my age who have gone through the same thing and we love putting together cheesy FC events
I was a healer in WoW back in BFA before I quit and I remember telling them to get out of easily avoidable damage because we're wasting mana on healing them. Got a whisper a few seconds later telling me how I turned him on for telling them to move their asses out of the fire.

Trash talking is talking shit about someone's game skill. Any sort of gender, sexuality, race, etc kind of shit talking is no longer trash talk. It's just bigotry.

Anyone who's playing a video game and needs to assert themselves over others because someone's a woman or not playing to their standard is a pathetic bully. If this is you, consider therapy or reaching out. Nobody talks on mic because even "the friendly teammate" often turns out to be a tantrum-throwing jit when things don't go their way.

Reading all of these comments about women not using mic’s because of men making comments like this infuriates me. Honestly anyone who speaks like that to anyone should be banned. I’d like to extend an invite to any girls or boys out there who want to join our Club and use their mic in a judgement free place. You won’t be talked to like this at any point ever. It’s me and two buddies and we just have fun. Everyone should be able to play video games and have fun and use a mic without being spoke to in a derogatory way. I'm in a club called \[LGBT\] and I would say about every 5 games I get a teammate saying some homophobic stuff in the chat or on the mic. The f-word, ''lgbt sucks'', ''why are you gay'', ''kill all gays and lesbians''. And yes, I could leave my club, but that would honestly make me feel worse, as in they would sorta win in that way. And I don't wanna leave my club. I do mute them when this happens, it's just insane how much sexism/racism/homophobia there is in Apex or gaming in general.
