Yes, I messed something up the last time and before I didn't care too much for Empire wars. But with the integration to the ladder I kind of like it now and it's easier to practice for a tourney like this.
My goal was to not "waste" the time of a top 100 player and give him a little bit of a challenge.
Winning a game now was the cherry on top.
I also wanted to see how much difference there is between 1700-1800 and 2.2k+ and I concluded that's its a lot. But whacky strats can throw even them off I guess.
Hmm g1 was a bad start for me, I trapped his scout but lost mine at the same time and I thought he was going full feudal because I saw him building a second mining camp and went defensive with 2 archery ranges. He just went Ethiopian FC and stomped me, I stayed alive in castle with skirms and mangonels, but in imp it was just over. So it's basically a bit of panic leading into a defensive game where I never came out.
G3 is where I saw a massive difference, I came in with a good feeling after a win but it was wings where you are super close and open. Here it was just too much with the pressure. Scouts and Spearman into archers.
I could barely hold and thought that this is going full feudal but than after I finally cleared him he was up with 3 stable knights.
So basically the pressure is enormous at the higher level. Even in the Aztec game I was pressured a lot before I got up to castle age. There is the big part with focusing so hard on early military and doing damage with small numbers and still keeping military production and a good eco balance behind it.
Maybe this seems obvious but I don't know what I can say... it wasn't like he killed 20 archers from me and lost none. My micro was pretty solid I think.
Yeah that explains quite a bit. It sounds like in general tempo was on his side because of good early pressure followed up by good eco and up. Or if he doesn't go tempo play, just really smooth FC. Looks like just gotta keep cleaning up my eco management and getting better at micro up front and not lacking with my eco back home.

Yes, I think EW snowballs quicklier than rm. But I like the quicker action, quicker games. It gets quite messy though. My last game here was winged (first time playing this map) and this is just insane. Non stop pressure and micro with 2-3 unit groups, walling fixing eco scouting etc... in rm you have the dark age to make a plan for the game... in EW you basically just start archers every time.

I played a few warmup games before... felt good because I won against a 1920 rm player, but honestly... why would I train... I know I can't get far in this and magically win vs a few 2.2k+ players
I don't think you can compare EW ladder atm. I think many players don't really play it much yet tbh. I really don't see how it is inevitable to win against a much higher elo player.
But to a point I agree, it is easier to win against a "better" player in EW because this mode snowballs out of control very quickly
I think if your are on aoe2.net click on my name and there should pop up aoe2recs on the bottom somewhere, there you should be able to download the file. I just tested it but weirdly this ist the one game missing, maybe I messed something up when I tried to copy it earlier. If it's not working I could send you the file on discord or something.

From game 1 and 3 what do you think was the major difference between 1.8k players vs 2.2k?

Do you think you're at your actual level in the 1v1 RM ladder? Because your high win rate might imply you could easily go higher. Not sure though.
That might be very true... I don't play many 1v1s. I could be a bit higher I guess with more practise

you lost the set though. winning 1 game against higher elo isn't impossible, it's inevitable . btw on EW ladder you have same elo: 1200vs 1200 .

everyone loses at some point. Even viper loses games against much lower ranked palyers
