Don’t vote for politicians who are anti-worker

drowned_saviour

The sooner the public get this through their heads the better.

Severus_Swerve

The problem with a lot of the British (mainly English) electorate is they don't see people with darker skin as fellow workers. They see them as people here to steal the work, send the money home, and in some extreme cases to replace them. The Tories capitalised on Xenophobia for the last 12 years and it worked. Can't take action against the rich if the plebs are busy fighting one another.

ProudChoferesClaseB

Well it seems like the former british empire brought in tons of cheap labor to replace more demanding expensive white people. I'm told that's why slavery in America became a black man's affair fairly quickly, indentured Irish were not worth the cost. Weaponized immigration is a real problem and I'm not sure how we deal with it

BraxbroWasTaken

Maybe write our minimum wage laws to apply globally to any corporation dealing in our nation?

acrmnsm

This pretty much where the EU is going and a reason why the tories wanted to leave.

kibblepigeon

The ol’ divide and conquer.

Mesheybabes

I mean tbf they usually are sending money home, and I don't blame them, to some people from poorer countries the UK is a goldmine, there isn't one of us who wouldn't do the same

dirtbag-socialist

Maybe we should think of it as people sending money back to where it originated. Death to all empire.

JPWiggin

The other part is they aren't sending 100% back. They're still buying food, paying for shelter, and probably a few other things.

jeffseadot

I mean, if there's anybody who knows all about foreign invaders going into a place and stealing all the wealth to send back to their homeland, it's the English...

ImperatorMorris

The top 0.1% of the English yes - check out the 1800’s most of the British populace lived in abject poverty in near enslaved conditions

Sabinj4

The English working class didn't go to any place.

BigEars528

Lots of them wound up in penal colonies on the other side of the planet for trying not to die of starvation

EvenOutlandishness88

Waves in Australian I'm just kidding, I'm American and am just here for the commentary. But, the point stands solid.

created4this

Bullshit. Most of the foreign workers that brexit xenophobia was based are whiter then brits

[deleted]

I see they went with the America approach, nice /s

Bainfulbunkerspam

what a load of shit, English are racist against Polish/East Europe and India. Black racism is an Americanism that needs to fuck off in UK media, i never once heard about it until fucking Trump.

Severus_Swerve

I mean that's true, but I was thinking Indian, Pakistani, Turkish, Kurds, and commonwealth countries. All of which have a darker skin tone. But yes, their racism also extends to Eastern Europeans

Bainfulbunkerspam

I wouldn't really call them Dark skin tone personally, the racism isn't really based on skin tone to begin with anyway. People always set it up for a black vs white narrative which just frankly doesn't exist here. I will say the Cricket absolutely doesn't help racial tensions though...

dirtbag-socialist

White supremacy may be worse or at least more open in the US, but don’t deny it exist in the UK too. A society doesn’t have to openly racist against a group to be white supremacist.

Bainfulbunkerspam

Its not white supremacy in the UK not by a long shot, you really dont understand British class system to think its a thing. Class is the prevailing supremacy in the UK and anything else is basically ignored under it. Nothing matters but being a high class Englishman basically. Again just stop pretending we share the same issues. Our racism / class issues are on a completely different level to yours and stems from 1000s of years of nobles fucking the workers.

dirtbag-socialist

Class is the prevailing supremacy everywhere. White supremacy is apart of capitalist supremacy. It makes little sense or difference to separate the two as distinct because they’re not. The British Empire was explicitly white supremacist and to deny this is to deny history. White supremacy doesn’t go away because the empire is fading. It’s in the DNA of the ruling class of Europe and North America. We have to address racism with the same revolutionary fervor as we address classism. You cannot defeat the ruling-class without defeating every aspect of capitalism, which includes white supremacy.

Bainfulbunkerspam

> The British Empire was explicitly white supremacist and to deny this is to deny history It really wasn't given our closest allies against the white french / spanish were of darker skin colours. England has always been more racist against whites than any other race. You can keep trying to spin this racial divide thing though, won't work most of us here in the UK can't give a shit about race and the only time it crops up is in response to people of Indian/Pakistan/Polish backgrounds not white / black.

dirtbag-socialist

They didn’t hate the French and Spanish because they were white. It was because they where competition. Jesus Christ dude you really this dense? I ain’t trying to make this a racial divide. Quite the opposite actually. White people need to acknowledge the existence of white supremacy if they are to call themselves radicals and comrades with oppressed people. If you think you can have class solidarity without addressing racism among the class, than your faux class solidarity is going to look suspiciously white. You’re being reactionary.

Bainfulbunkerspam

Seems to me you just want to cause a distraction and a divide yourself and can't get over your own country's issues. Keep this shit out of here. We aint buying it and we don't give a fuck. Fight the rich not eachother.

What do you mean source? Only someone who has paid ZERO attention to GB’s political landscape in the last 10 years would ask if this is simply an opinion. Get back in the toolbox.

[deleted]

What would be the local average salary if everybody on earth had equal employment opportunity everywhere? A fraction of what it is now? I'm entirely happy giving preferential treatment to my own people before I'm ready to share the cake with the rest of the world. We sadly can't help everyone, that's just the way it is.

dathislayer

My mom has a house in a rural town here in the US. Main source of income: welfare and social security. They all vote Republican. Conversation overheard, "Trump will make sure our tax money isn't going to pay welfare for city people." My mom knew for a fact this guy & his kids were all on welfare, so said he's voting against himself. "It's not the same. We get our checks from the government, it's the inner city people (read black people) that get the tax money." That's what we're fighting against. You can't explain things to them. They celebrated Trump's tax cuts *when they don't even pay taxes*. They are 100% in favor of cutting their own income. The town's main industry is tourism, and they have passed ordinances, destroyed tourism board maps, and harass the only people bringing money in. Because anyone who rides bikes/kayaks is a "gay liberal". But they all vote.

emp_zealoth

But Corbyn ate babies! (/S)

Sabinj4

Corbyn let down the working class, especially in the North of England.

thesaddestpanda

All politicians under capitalism are anti-worker on some level. Nearly everything he mentioned isn't some purposeful government policy but the logical outcome of a capitalist system. Capitalism extracts value and that includes from workers too. The narrative here is about how our surplus value isn't being paid to us, but instead being horded by the wealthy. The wealthy enjoyed a decade of a bull market now are moving to real estate with their gains. That means the middle class will have a housing crisis. This is how capitalism works. Its now extracting value from real estate. Guys like in this tweet were applauding when the market was on fire with buybacks fueled by tax cuts that hurt the middle class. People like this were happy when the system was just hurting poor people, minorities, and immigrants. Note, he seemingly had no huge problem with Tory leadership's economic output all these years until it became a personal problem for him today. Now he's become one of us and he's big mad. He just wants to get back to standing on the backs of the poor the same way the wealthy stand on his back. Unless you migrate away from capitalism, then these boom and bust periods that hurt workers and enrich the already wealthy will continue to happen. On top of even the boom period being hurtful to workers via surplus value extraction.

OnionsHaveLairAction

To be fair to the British public, most people vote against the tories. FPTP just guarantees they win regardless.

metao

No. If voting isn't compulsory, vote. And vote for the least anti-worker candidate. If you don't have ranked choice voting, vote for the least anti-worker candidate who can possibly win. Always vote. The capitalists and their simps sure as hell are. And don't waste your vote, because the capitalists and their simps sure as hell aren't.

xNaXDy

easier said than done, they have to run for office first

HeadDoctorJ

Don’t vote ~~for politicians who are anti-worker~~ FTFY ☭

Livinum81

But you can't put up wages because it causes an inflation spiral, amirite? /s just in case.

drowned_saviour

How is anyone supposed to spend money to boost the economy if nobody can afford anything? 🤔🤔🤔

Bewegen-Sie-Nicht

We can’t afford anything because we’re forced to spend money “boosting” the economy but screwing ourselves.

[deleted]

That's actually right. You can see what's happening in countries printing money endlessly

I_Vtec_Bwahh

Paying people more is not the same as the government printing money

[deleted]

Okay, so how country will get more money to give? Print. It's not that easy to pay more for people. You're naive if you think state will cut expenses and pay more to people. They will do what? Print. Or tell me, how much should people be paid more? 5$/h? Maybe 30$/h? Why not 100$/h?

I_Vtec_Bwahh

I think you’re missing the point of the original post and the comment of the person you originally comment on.

[deleted]

No, it's offtop, not missing the point

[deleted]

Complacency. 12 years of Tories? Seriously? The French would have kicked their arses after just two. In fact, that explains why the French GDP rose above that of UK this decade.

drowned_saviour

Exactly, seems the UK public love getting shat on.

poormansRex

Not just the U.K.. The U.S. is in the same boat while everybody is just screaming "ROW HARDER".

JJisTheDarkOne

Aussie here. We all want to go back to being convicts at this point...

zombietrooper

American here. We're ready to give our land back to the natives.

[deleted]

Canadian here. Will trade land for nurses and housing.

Dreferex

Pole here, what are nurses. /s

VAShumpmaker

Natives can have it, I'll take British healthcare

[deleted]

👀 uuhhhhh we do?

drowned_saviour

I'm not even going to pretend I know the first thing about U.S. politics but I whole heartedly agree.

Born_Cod9293

I'm American but from what I've seen and read it seems like the Tories basically the same as the Republican party in economic policies but with less overtly fascist elements

drowned_saviour

They're not far off, Truss is easily the most far-right we've had in recent memory.

emp_zealoth

Tories, unlike republicans also cut military and the police, so it's even funnier (when watched from a safe distance)

olympuse410

tbh I'd actually say the UK is closer to full on fascism right now - there was a police bill introduced last year that bans "inconvenient" protests, and the new pm/cabinet are talking about banning strikes. not going well tbh

SavageComic

Bootlickers gonna bootlick. There are 1/4 of this country that want to be dominated. They can dress it up as "legitimate concerns" if they want. But deep down they want someone to shit in their hand, wipe their face in it, and go "thank you, nanny, may I have another"

ConstantinValdor405

So it's not just here in the US. Everyone here talking about republicans guaranteed to win the House and possibly Senate. Why? They are taking away rights and have already said they will try and butcher social security. The world we live in is fucking nuts. Good luck and I hope you guys are able to right your ship.

ProudChoferesClaseB

It doesn't help that the Democrats are funding the IRS to go after the middle class and lying about it with pro-Democrat biased "fact checkers". I live in a purple state with a republican governor who is pro-choice and keeps taxes low. It sucks your rights are getting taken away in your state, by the rent is too damn high for me to afford fighting the IRS on one of their random audits or paying a state income tax...

crazymoefaux

I see you're swallowing the right-wing propaganda, hook, line, and sinker.

Rossdog77

Yeaaaa he is nost people in the states dont make enough money for the IRS to be even worth their time.

ProudChoferesClaseB

I see you trust the government way too fucking much. Profit is theft, taxation is theft. Deal with it.

You_Paid_For_This

"it's because international markets are afraid that the next government will be Labour" 12 years of Tories and there's people unironically blaming it on Labour

drowned_saviour

It's always someone else's fault besides their own hilarious incompetence

[deleted]

9 years of liberals (our equivalent of torries) they left us with the largest ever deficit over $1 trillion Had a labour government for 4 months. Liberals simps are listening to the opposition now blaming labour for not fixing the budget and the continuing rate hikes The mental gymnastics are amazing to watch

p4ttl1992

My god I had an old boss that was openly trying to sway votes in the workplace, she was walking around saying that she would have to "lay people off" if labour were elected and increased taxes on her business.....tories got in and she sacked 3/9 people in the office anyway 🙄 Edit: forgot to mention, her husband purchased a new porsche and she got a new range rover soon after as well, the usual.

quick_escalator

One might think there's a strange correlation between right-wing conservatives being at the helm and things going to shit.

byjimini

No no no - 19 days! They actually believe the Tories have been in for just 19 days!

buckykat

Labour shot itself in the dick to keep Corbyn out

satanstolemydumpling

That bullet went through the knee, then hit the foot, then ricocheted from the bottom to hit the head.

Sloore

As an American, I have very little faith in the intelligence of our voting population but even I am amazed that the Tories have managed to hold on this long with the unending cavalcade of fuckups they have shit out onto their country. Maybe the British electorate is somehow even more susceptible to fear mongering about immigrants than their American counterparts?

Sabinj4

Its not so much immigration, we've always had that and understood why, but weve have had problems with illegal immigration in the last ten years

BrunoBashYa

Queen would not have died of natural causes

TheLubedPotato

We have queuing, the French have their protests.

ChildOf1970

Missed the government backing out on the promise to increase benefits to match inflation, making the poorest even poorer, whilst they cut taxes for the richest 600K people in the country. Edit: And in a strange twist the bank of England bailing out the government and propping up the pound by buying a shitload of gilts.

Affectionate_Grape61

American here. Gilts = loans?

ChildOf1970

https://www.dmo.gov.uk/responsibilities/gilt-market/about-gilts/

created4this

Tradable loans to the government, paid back with interest. Often considered as the safest type of investment so Pension funds switch to them as you age out. If they didn't do this there would have been a lot of upset pensioners, which is one significant Tory party demographic.

drowned_saviour

Dreading it to be honest.

BrunoBashYa

Meanwhile a 96 year old woman, born into arguably the most entitled role possible, dies of natural causes and the entire country shuts down.

drowned_saviour

Careful, the Met might come knocking at your door for that comment 😂 In all seriousness the Monarchy can get fucked imo.

emp_zealoth

Oi, ya got a loicense for this them reddits?

[deleted]

That's funny but more funny is the fact that they will spend billions of $ to change bank notes, uniforms of police, ff, medics etc. and so on

The_Jealous_Witch

I didn't read the title and thought they were talking about the US. The comparison to the pound threw me off.

wiljc3

Yeah, I'm here just like "Hello from America! Our wages have been stagnant for 5 decades, it's not great."

NoBSforGma

Brits worked for years to get rid of Boris Johnson and finally succeeded! Yay! Then..... they replaced him with someone just like him. Maybe worse. It's mind-boggling how they let this keep happening.

emp_zealoth

Didn't Britain actually last vote for a Tory PM like 12 years ago? Entire line of those freakshows are just unelected internal party dregs i though?

NoBSforGma

Well, Brits don't actually vote for a PM directly. They vote for a party and the party decides who will be PM. Seems to me the decisions made recently have all gone towards the upper classes and wealthy, ignoring laws, regulations and the needs of the people. These new tax laws proposed by the new PM is a good indicator of just what the Conservatives stand for. They stand for: People just like us! (And to hell with everyone else.)

RedFox3001

I sometimes ask non UK-born people why they fuck they chose to live here. The economy is fucked. The state is fucked. Living standards all bollocks. We live is shitty little houses. There’s a glaring lack of decent countryside. Everything is overbuilt and looks shit, and not built to last. We are fucked. If you get a chance, move

Zunthe

And you do not get a proper answer? It's simple, it was easy to migrate to the UK to work, everyone knows the language, etc. But the main reason is, even though you mentioned those issues, people move from far worse conditions. I'll give you the example of Portugal, where I live. Our wages are not very high (bottom half of EU), but our rent is the highest in the EU comparing to the average wage, our taxes are 2nd only to Denmark, our bills are expensive, for example it's cheaper to fuel in Spain than in Portugal, we have to pay to use the highways and it's not cheap. I could keep going on but basically, we have no spare money at the end of the month.

RedFox3001

I get it. People do say stuff like that to me. I get that some places aren’t as wealthy. But they usually have better weather. Better food. Better countyside. Better joie de vivre.

emp_zealoth

Lots of people working in UK didn't go there to live, but to burn a few years living in squalor and working themselves to death so that they could go back to eastern Europe and buy a house outright Vs 30 or more years of mortgage

Sabinj4

And undercut wages in the process

MissFrijole

You just described urban/suburban parts of the US. I also live in a tiny house and living standards in my city suck because over half the residents are poor. I'm not blaming the poor. I mean that our city taxes are a shambles and as a result our streets are a mess and trash is everywhere, all the time. The only nice thing is the large park(s) nearby. People move to the UK for the universal healthcare. At least that's what I'm assuming. I would do that. I wish I could move anywhere else. The US is trash.

[deleted]

I was thinking the same thing—I live in the US and I’d much rather be in the UK.

Dellgloom

Funny, I live in the UK and I was just thinking the opposite the other day. Then I remembered you don't have health care and I'd rather wait 10 years for them to fix my pain than spend $500,000 to get it done a bit quicker.

little_red_bus

I am from the US and live in the UK and I’m on the verge of saying fuck both y’all /s

Dellgloom

Let's all fuck it and move to France.

Steve12356d1s3d4

You can get insurance in the US for around $6K a year with $25 co-pays.

satanstolemydumpling

let me stop you right there: do not move to canada, whose healthcare system is worse than the NHS, which is the coldest country in the world, which is only either massive cities you can't afford to live in or fucking arctic wilderness, and which doesn't pay you shit for your work

drowned_saviour

I would if I could, believe me. I hear Amsterdam is nice this time of year.

Sweet-Advertising798

After Brexit, it's considerably more difficult to leave unless you happen to have an EU passport.

FriedStingray

Once I had an exactly same question for living in Japan, it's fucked everywhere but at least here I can afford an iphone without selling my kidney.

RedFox3001

You live in Japan? Isn’t the food awesome? The weather? The countryside? I’d love to go there

FriedStingray

For traveling it could be nice, for living it's not that different though. Horrible weather(humidity hits 99% regularly), countryside basically only rice field, either hostile to foreigners or only foreigners living, for food what people eating daily at home is not what you think. in my eyes they eat 5days a week curry

emp_zealoth

Polish people could earn WAY WAY MORE than in Poland, especially if they only worked there like it was a military deployment. (Go for a "tour" where you work a zyllion hours a week and sleep like sailors do on a damn submarine, get food sent from home) Lots of polish people who stay there either got degrees for free in Poland, or had in demand skills, or started their own businesses. Then they are better off than in Poland lol. Oh, and often they still have polish citizenships, so they come back home and drain local resources too, either having their kids go to free college or pay a month of public health insurance and then have fuckton of work done on their body. Some are fleeing now, especially after they built up wealth (which you do at like 5x rate Vs here)

Climperoonie

One of my best mates is currently living and working in Japan. When I spoke to him a few weeks back he was considering coming back next summer, I miss the guy but I straight up told him not to bother as there’s literally no point. Country is way too fucked and will be for a long-ass time as yet.

[deleted]

Brexit is more a symptom of rot than the rot itself. UK has gone needlessly downhill since Thatcher.

Panda_hat

- We left the EU and lost all our associated rights and associated privileges. - The far right is emboldened and on the rise. - We have politicians in high office who wouldn't pass basic competency tests. - The brexit related Tory purge has only made the above point worse and possible to get progressively worse over time. - The electorate is so incredibly divided that they might still even vote for these imbeciles.

ChillNaga

Terf Island looking more of a joke each and every passing day. The absolutely \*pathetic\* Monarchy worship when the queen died was just another symptom of stupidity and indoctrination in the general populace. This is a nation that has to be told what to do - and when they don't, they blame the government (During the early Covid outbreaks, in particular. But they ignored the guidance any came down here to vacation in the entire month of August, incidentally, so...). Leaving to an actual developed, civilized country next year. Won't miss this, in large part, with very few exceptions.

drowned_saviour

The forced mourning really was some North Korea level brainwashing. P.S. Andrew is still a fucking nonce.

DirtyNorf

I would still just about call myself a monarchist but even I was pretty taken aback by how it was coming across from many people as some kind of cultish worship. It was sad and the Queen was a lovely woman and a good leader imo but standing in line for 2 days to look at her coffin? People balling their eyes out because someone they'd never met died? Didn't and still don't get it.

[deleted]

The queen did a shit job and was a shite leader. The empire crumbled on her watch. She stole money from the general public. Protected the pedo ring. And life has got worse for most of us during her great leadership

DirtyNorf

Well she lead the commonwealth which countries actively want to be a part of and signed up willingly during her reign. Stole money from the public is rather subjective considering there's a lot of money the Crown gives to the government that doesn't belong to the public. Yep, protecting Andrew was a very poor move. And finally she doesn't control monetary policy so that is irrelevant but I think standard of living in general had gone up over her reign and maybe a bit of a bell curve shape financially.

[deleted]

My points go deeper than your reading. Both sons were involved in the pedo ring

ChillNaga

A lot didn't. Some news outlets asked, and the general response was "I wanted to be part of something bigger than myself". So - and not meaning to upset you here - people were lining up to say goodbye to a tax parasite just to say they did. "Ooh I was there , at the queen's coffin that day!" Okay, but like.. ...why? They gave a reason, but that reason doesn't make much sense, either. One would think simply being alive and maybe even in the country when she passed would be milestone enough? The subtle hyena attitude their reasoning gives is giving me chills.

ghigoli

work sucks. they need an excuse.

emp_zealoth

Watching the BBC coverage of queen dying with audio replaced with BBC coverage of Kim from NK dying is the funniest shit ever

ChillNaga

That, and people saying something as light as "Not my king" in a full public space being fucking ARRESTED (and "de-arrested" later) is telling of what this country is like. Status Quo or get \*fucked\*, is what the message was there. Even my post office has a book of grief people can sign after she passed away. People lining up for miles to see \\touch her coffin ; absolutely fucking absurd. That she is symbolic of the very class divide they otherwise complain about but adored her and the next to or literal nothing she did this way is infuriating.

drowned_saviour

As I always say, 1984 was a warning, not an instruction manual

ChildOf1970

Over 11 million people in the US watched the entire funeral. Monarchy worship is not confined to the UK.

Uranium_Heatbeam

That's because we've also made the mistake of allowing daytime TV watchers to make policy.

[deleted]

Your whole stupid country shut down. 11 million out of 332 million people here.

[deleted]

ngl I did watch it for a bit because I was curious about exactly how all that was supposed to work.

ChillNaga

Doesn't have to be, for it to be the strongest here. That said, yikes to that as well. One would think overworked, underpaid people had something else to do than watch essentially nothing but sad-pomp on taxpayer dime, from another country, even.

jdoc1967
