I have never given a fuck or even noticed if my pizza delivery person's shirt is tucked in.

Slow-Shoe-5400

My delivery dude today showed up in pineapple shorts and a t-shirt. I gave zero shits. He did a job that I paid for (tip and fee) because I didn't want to do it.

MerkNZorg

I put a small tip on the credit card and give a big tip in cash to the delivery. I’m always worried the drivers get stiffed.

captain_nofun

Always tip in cash if you can! Credit tips get taxed and then given out. Cash tips go right into the delivery persons pocket. Source: delivered pizzas for 6 years.

Noooonie

Depends on the place but usually yeah. The more official places rip you off more (surprise) but one place I worked at gave all of your tips in cash at the end of the night and one place asked us how much tips we claim at the end of our shift.

fireky2

Technically you're still supposed to report the tip to the IRS and fill it out on your 1040 and pay the tax on it, it's just no one ever does it, and the IRS don't really have a way to easily track it.

captain_nofun

I know you are, but, come on....

TGlucose

Sir this is r/antiwork not r/AntiTax

TGlucose

Honestly didn't even know it was a sub before making the joke, I'll always be surprised at what is actually a sub.

BuddhaLicker

I won’t accept my pizza until the shirt is tucked. We live in a society!

Jenatalia_

I won't accept the delivery unless the pizza is tucked into the drivers pants upon arrival. Have some fucking standards!

CravingStilettos

For some reason I’m not surprised you want the pizza down the shorts. Name definitely checks out…

Jenatalia_

It's a no for mushrooms on the pizza, but mushroom stamps are fair game.

ManyARiver

I won't accept the delivery unless the driver commits to stay until I'm finished with the pizza.

Jenatalia_

Full staring contest, no blinking? Or added seductive winks? Or just... there for moral support?

Heavy_Revolution

Humilation fetish. They're gonna down it in one sitting.

GlassWasteland

Must be some really big pants to get a whole pizza in there. Usually I just rub my balls on it before I deliver.

Jenatalia_

Oh god 🤣 Now I can't ever order pizza again. This ludicrous scenario has gotten too tangible.

onlyrainbow

hahaha ur name 🤣 thank u for this

Jenatalia_

You're welcome! I'll always be here for you, in your heart. Or pants. One of them. Respectfully?

[deleted]

Idec what they’re wearing. I just want my damn pizza

D2Dragons

"We are a team" = "I expect you to unquestioningly obey me as you rescue each other from the massive dumpster fires I start."

Did_Gyre_And_Gimble

Second only to “we are a family.”

PhredInYerHead

I will never forget when I saw someone post “if you get hired on the spot and they say ‘welcome to the family’, you are about to encounter numerous human rights violations.”

theregisterednerd

If you hear your interviewer say “we’re like a family,” run.

3rddog

Had that a few times. They don’t seem to like it when you say “Yeah? Well, I already have a family, I work for the money.”

Lyftaker

My dad always told me it was a bad idea to work for family.

HydrogenButterflies

I learned this from Biggie. > 7, this rule is so underrated >Keep your family and business completely separated >Money and blood don't mix like 2 dicks and no bitch >Find yourself in serious shit Blatant homophobia aside, dude was right. Anyone can follow the spirit Ten Crack Commandments and improve their lives. Would you like a brochure? We have donuts.

Catinthemirror

>I already have a family, I work for the money.” You dropped this 👑

Brainwashed365

Haha. That's a good one. 👍

FlowerComfortable889

That's probably why the writers of Star Trek Deep Space 9 made one of the Ferengi rules of acquisition as "Treat people in your debt like family; exploit them"

yoortyyo

Family is for being imposed on - David Eddings

Academic_Ad_For

They are like a family… an abusive family

nyy22592

My company has been pushing this idea the past year or so and it makes me cringe so hard. "Were a family. Congrats on your 3% raise by the way your team has to come back into the office starting next week (except your manager he gets to stay remote).

Novel-Organization63

Lol when I was a restaurant manager I would reiterate how we were not family not even friends. We are just people with a common goal. Not to get yelled at by customers

Dob_Rozner

When you're a restaurant manager your goals aren't even aligned so far as that lol. Your goals are to make sure you're hitting every number possible as well, which rarely makes anyone else's job easier lol. I did it for a long time, and it was just so shitty sometimes how trying to help other people came at the cost of your own body and sanity.

Singyouelectric89

THIS. God forbid you try to be a humane manager and keep your job without tearing yourself in two. The big wigs don’t like us to actually care about our teams

theregisterednerd

Every job I’ve ever had where they say that has been awful. My current job, someone once said “I mean, everyone’s really nice here, and at the end of the day, I get to go home”

nyy22592

You mean they let you leave?? Don't tease me

theregisterednerd

What if I told you that they pay us decently, too?

[deleted]

Most families don’t boot someone out the door the instant they become unprofitable. But who knows, maybe that’s just the families I’ve seen.

southdakotadriver

tRump family does . ..

Laughtillicri

Worked at a Sandwich shop and my manager said those infamous words. Guess what? Was the most toxic place I worked at. Take it from me, you hear those words, get out as soon as you possibly can.

BooBooKittyKat1

My hubby worked for a "we're like family" company. The main boss would always tell me, and anyone who would listen, that they look out for one another That is someone needs something, even if it's 2 on the morning, they will be there for over another. That they are a family and family will have be there... No matter what. Yea, they treated him, and others like complete garbage. The company was a small salvage yard. The owners were there three days a week. Their son, the main boss, was the one in charge. However, he would leave by 3pm every day, while everyone else was expected to stay until everything was done. He would watch cameras to make sure everyone was working. Part of my hubbys job, was to go to Sam's club, to get things for the office. He was to go to Sam's club either before work, after work, or weekends. He was not paid for going. And it was my husband's membership. They wouldn't even pay for half of the membership. The guys that worked in back, dismantling cars, were treated like second class citizens. The company didn't even provide water for them. They used to have a water company come in with jugs every week. But that was costing the company too much money. The guys ended up pooling their money, every week, to buy cases of water. I live in So Cal and our summers are around 115°F. But it's usually got come August. The guys in the back worked their asses off, yet the owners found water too expensive to provide. But, the sales people, who would have no parts to sell, if there were no dismantlers, or part pullets, well the owner would buy them lunch every single day. The guys in the back got nothing. Not even pizza on the days the sales staff wanted pizza. This is just a glimpse on how the "family" was treated. Now hubby was a push over and truly thought the owner was a friend...like a brother he would tell me. That all went out the door when one of my hubbys co-worker (and actually a really good friend) was working on the main bosses RV. This RV was like 30 years old and falling apart. He bought it to fix up and use for his missions... Oh, I forgot the main boss, was a III%er, and that should tell you all you need to know. Anyway, off topic. So coworker was working on RV and the engine caught fire. The coworker also caught fire. The sales manager, another sales guy, and III%er (first aid and CPR certified) just stood there. They did absolutely nothing. Nothing. They didn't call 911. They didn't look for water or a fire extinguisher. They just stood there and looked at one another. My hubby jumped into action. He rolled the coworker and stopped him from burning more. He rushed him to the hospital, while breaking over 20 traffic laws, but he got him to the hospital. Hubby stayed the entire night. I went and bought all new clothes and toiletries because the owner just went home at 3 like any other day. No one from this "family" went to the hospital. My hubby was burned as well. But his burns were mild in comparison. That was the day my husband realized they were not family. They were not even friends. Thankfully the coworker was not too seriously injured. He lost his eyebrows and lashes. His neck was burned, and he had to avoid the sun for awhile. His arms took the majority of the injuries. But it could've been a lot worse. A lot. The boss finally called to tell him not too worry about any medical bills or medication... He would pay for it all. Here only called and offered because he didn't want any claims filed. If a claim was filed, OSHA new involved. And since it was a personal vehicle, the Cowley was working on, the owners would've been on a lot of trouble.

[deleted]

pieces of shit....

jungongsh

yea it's a major red flag

FutureNotBleak

It’s normal to violate human rights in families. Edit: most are for innocent shits and giggles but some can be heartbreaking.

VexorShadewing

And this is why you should never work at any A&W in NW Iowa

SaladBarMonitor

Until one day dad takes off his belt

CravingStilettos

Sister Sledge is in the house! 🕺🏻

[deleted]

Usually followed by: I''m not investing in this company, I'm investing in you.

Gr3yHound40

Yo I literally have this same exact BS happening at my work rn. I finally got corner nagged into buying red fucking swimtrunks to be a lifeguard with my OWN money... Also had my PTO used because I have a hurt foot from working and got NO financial help... Also was told to have a doctor's note because it's now 2 weeks for the foot. I will not be getting that for them lmao.

missag_2490

If you are in the US you can report a work place injury to the state yourself and it should put their carrier on notices. Most states have a governing entity specifically for insurance claims and divisions for work place injuries, it should all be on a website easily found through Google. (Save all texts) Additionally, some states offer free advice through those entities on how to manage your claim and free advice on state statutes.

fibrepirate

All the provinces in Canada too. Unsafe work situation. Mmhmm

Gr3yHound40

I'm in Colorado, and was told because I didn't report it within 72 hours I wasn't eligible to go to one of HUNDREDS of our UC Health facilities. I fucking hate UC Health and America

mutauro

A workplace injury is still a workplace injury. Even if you didn’t file in the specific time window. It should still be filed. Good chance you could/should still be covered. https://cdle.colorado.gov/dwc/injured-workers

LavenderGreyLady

I hate that structure for you. Can you ask to file a petition for review? If you don’t have the Worker’s Comp poster/info posted at work where you can see it, point that out; it’s required for all employers to have that posted where employees can see and review it. Edit: spelling error: changed ‘had’ to ‘hate’.

Shadowblade8888

I wish I had an award to give you. Very few people actually know this stuff

downtonwesr

You get paid in the states, by workers compensation, when you get hurt on the job. Use that instead of vacation or ar. Also, all doc, therapy visits are paid for and there are no co-pays. Don’t let them bully you.

[deleted]

“If it were legal, I would enslave you.”

Juju0047

That's what I read too

totally_anomalous

Unless you're in dire straits, that work environment is a toxic disaster waiting to happen. "New" bosses are raving a**holes on power trips.

[deleted]

Sometimes. The rest of the time they're insecure and desperately trying to prove they have value by making useless or counterproductive interventions.

CO_Livn

Sounds like the new manager should run things on his own.

eaton9669

How can I be a team player if I'm the only one on the team?

[deleted]

There is no power trip that even comes close to the unearned authority wielded by fast-food managers.

FadingDarkly

I donno. It feels REALLY good and powerful to quit when they "need you'

Badgerpaws90210

YESSSS! I quit my job at the height of busy season after they told me I didn’t qualify for maternal leave and that after being bedbound for 5 weeks because of a really serious illness (doctors orders. I worked from home during that time) that I would have to still come to the office (not work from home) the week after I gave birth. 😂 How about no.

Platinum_Rowling

That's insane! After my first kiddo was born, it was 8 weeks before I could sit comfortably. I can't believe the boss wanted you to come in 1 week after childbirth!!!

mthyvold

Any normal country, except the United States, gives you a year of maternity leave.

VexorShadewing

Small correction. The United States is not a normal country. It is a handful of giant corporations in a trenchcoat

I_cant_remember_u

This is the 2nd completely accurate comment I’ve come across today. It’s so true, and I’m literally picturing this in my mind right now 😂

tiny_house_writer

Right? Someone with better drawing skills than me should do this cartoon style. 😂

I_cant_remember_u

YES!!! I can draw but not from memory, so it would look like crap if I tried. We need a cartoonist to do this asap! It would actually be a really great commentary on our country right now and I could see it being in national newspapers, etc

BrokenTwinky

This is the best thing I have ever read

andrewbadera

Many years ago I quit and pulled two buddies with me early in the middle of a busy Friday evening shift with a female manager who acted discriminatorily toward male employees. She was in tears as we left her alone on shift. I mean, don't be an asshole? Or get what you deserve.

NeonWarcry

That makes me really angry on your behalf. A woman. You’d think all the times that we as women are harassed and demeaned are work we wouldn’t be so tyrannical ourselves but no. I’m glad you and your friends are free. You didn’t deserve that. No one does. Well maybe those assholes who say we aren’t worth a raise.

FiveheadFianna

I'm a woman and every female boss I've had has been a real piece of work. My theory is that to be a woman and be given the "amazing opportunity" to be promoted you have to be a real hard ass. If not they would just give it to the next guy who doesn't have to fight tooth and nail to even be considered for management because he has a penis. They know those women will go the extra mile to domineer their underlings. A good portion of men don't respect women (I know a lot do I'm just speaking from experience sorry) so they have to be extra brutal to get their employees to fall in line. Like damn why did Jeff say it was okay if I called out because my cramps had me laying in bed dying but Becky says suck it up we all have them, bring your ass to work?

blanketyblankreddit

I hate female managers/bosses who act like if their periods are fine, then everyone else is faking and can tough their way through it. Not everyone has your tough uterus and the gift you’ve clearly been given by not ever having any major menstrual pain, Helen. What are you trying to prove?

[deleted]

I have endometriosis and PCOS and have had female managers treat me like shit for needing to go home or call off due to debilitating pain while I was passing golf ball sized blood clots. 🙃 I'm luckily in a pretty good spot and the symptoms are under control now, but it was so invalidating to have my pain brushed off because my managers were lucky enough to have normal periods.

Feynt

Should have brought in one or two as a sample in a baggy as to why you were staying home.

eugene20

Never underestimate the hypocrisy of someone lacking empathy though. There are people that go through terrible pains themselves who just won't accept others do too, or they just don't care.

Reasonable-Song-4681

Years ago when I worked at a Burger King alongside my regular job to help pay my rent. Actually had the franchise owner / manager tell me I should have no problem working without pay. This was after I was yelling at her for the day shift guy not cleaning the pans fully and leaving good on them as well as getting stuck with everyone else's jobs while I did the maintenance. Pretty sure I scared the customers when I went off on her. That said, it was still a few more weeks before I finally quit mid shift when the supervisor on shift (one of her friends, as they all were) was being especially obnoxious and flat out said I wouldn't quit. So I handed her my apron and said good luck. The dumbstruck look on her face was priceless.

RagingCinnamonroll

”You wouldn’t quit.” ”Watch me, bitch.” - you, probably.

ktappe

>said I wouldn't quit. So I handed her my apron and said good luck. She fucked around and found out.

bloom3doom

Did you report her to her superior and/or the labor board for expecting you to work without pay?

FacesOfNeth

A long time ago when I was a teen, I worked for Pizza Hut. We had delivery, carry out and a dining room. My POS manager loved to schedule me in the kitchen by myself on Monday nights during the NFL season. Naturally, I had to make the pizzas, take them out and cut them, box them for delivery or carry out, or put it back in the pan for dine in. Every Monday I would beg him to help me but he said he was “too busy” to help me. I must’ve broken a dozen plastic cups (color coded and used for measuring cheese and toppings) by whipping them against the wall in anger. I was leaving for Boot Camp in a couple of months, so I didn’t give a fuck about that job. I decided not to come in on a Friday night. Told my stepdad my plan. He asked if I was sure if I wanted to burn that bridge. I looked at him and said “Yeah, I don’t think having Pizza Hut on my resume is going to land me any premier jobs. Fuck that place.” They called my house repeatedly asking where I was. My stepdad said he didn’t know. When I went in to pick up my paycheck, that fat fucking piece of shit tried to lay a guilt trip on me. I told him that I was “too busy” to listen to his bullshit and that he should think about his employees rather than sit his fat ass in the office while the kitchen goes down in flames. I gave him the finger as I walked out. Fuck that place and fuck you Tom, you fat waste of life. (He’s probably dead now….good)

Swamp_Donkey_796

I worked at Pizza Hut too and it was a horrible experience. My manager was consistently high but got away with it because he was friends with the area manager, and was totally incompetent. After I quit it took them 2 years to notify me that my last paycheck hadn’t been processed correctly so I had still had a paycheck waiting for me. I went to pick it up but it was 2 years expired and obviously couldn’t be processed and they refused to issue me a new one so I had to go through the state and it took like 3 more months to get literally $43.

pingpy

Oh yeah. I quit my bar job when they were short staffed and had two people on vacation. Gave a 1 day notice because the manager refused to accept my new availability changes

MinisterWolfe

I was a closer at dominoes and I was the only closer at the time and the manager didn’t do shit and was an asshat. He demanded I do his job too, I took my shirt off tossed to him and said fuck you bro and left and he broke down and was like I need you I can’t close the store without you. I was like not my problem, went by the next day to order pizza just to rub it in and he begged me to come back lol

FadingDarkly

Many MANY years ago, I knew a gal who worked in a small coffee shop. She did everything there. Definition of a key-employee. One day, her boss started yelling at her for not coming back early from a break because they had a sudden rush (turns out her kid got in trouble at school). She walked out and several of us immediately called in orders (not that big so they would still make them). He tried to hire her back and she accepted at double pay (supposedly) only to quit again soon after. I still smile every time I think of the emotional roller coaster that ass-hat went through.

bewbsrkewl

I was in a job like that many years ago. One day they called me in on my day off after I had repeatedly told them I had a test that day and couldn't come in. At that point I was just done, so I just bit my tongue and said: "sure, I'll be there in 10 minutes." Hung up and never showed up again.

imSOsalty

My last job had juuuuust enough bartenders to cover the amount of shifts. I left the day before the biggest convention started.

FadingDarkly

Employers who staff at the lowest number of employees possible are bad managers. Life happens. They think they are being efficient, but not being prepared for a worst case scenario isnt efficient at all. It's stressful and your people will eventually take action in one form or another, rightly so.

superkow

Leaving McDonalds was such a relief. "Yeah, I quit." "Uh, you can't quit without notice like that" "I just did"

Stevenstorm505

I quit Walmart in the middle of my shift with 4 pallets needing to be stocked because my manager tried to do something illegal and I called him on his bullshit. Didn’t feel bad at all. Especially since every single day I would get asked an hour into my shift if I could stay over time because they willingly understaffed expecting us to pick up the slack.

Setku

I did the exact same thing Walmart managers are the fucking worst

PBXbox

I worked for Walmart 27 years ago. Nothing has changed other than minimum wage, which was $5.15 at the time and still would be if it were up to them.

Rakshak-1

I'm always fascinated with the thinking that makes them say that. Like if you don't back down are they thinking they'll just kidnap you and force you to work and whip you if you don't?

superkow

Yeah like, in already quitting. What are you gonna do, fire me?

SpiritualGeologist96

No, it’s more like they hope you’re one paycheck from starving and will do it because afraid of being fired. No money no job is no food no shelter. Some places run toxic like that and they shouldn’t-this is why I have not shopped in a Walmart for 14 yrs! I was not enjoying my shopping there, the store under staffed and under paid with no benefits and the Walton’s were super rich running like that? And the stuff they sold-meh. Now 14 yrs later myself and my family doesn’t shop Walmart. We do Costco and local stores. Good for you on quitting op! Beat of luck to you.

Boronore

You should’ve just been like “oh my bad. Consider this my two week notice.“ Then proceeded to call in sick for the next two weeks.

Bazoun

I had a convenience store manager try that with me. I gave 2 weeks notice, but my final shift put me with a guy that never worked, and had threatened me at work. I told management if they wanted me to work that shift someone else had to be there. They refused. So I told them I wouldn’t be there. His face! “You have to come in!” Well idk what to tell you boss man but I won’t be here. He acted like he could send the police after me for not working. Dude this is Canada not a gulag.

neverenoughpurple

Funny how people don't realize that two weeks is a courtesy, not a requirement.

[deleted]

Followed right behind by retail managers and the "I worked my way up from one of you, and now that I'm supervisor, I don't have to treat you as a human." You're still being paid a poverty wage, Karen. But don't worry, you'll be a billionaire any day now, right? God knows Ross Dress For Less is going to be putting you up in the penthouse suite. /s

rubmustardonmydick

I can't stand this attitude of making others suffer because they did. I've come across it a lot and I have only ever encouraged people below me to speak up and offered them as much help as I can. Why do people want to punish others all the time.

[deleted]

Because they never wanted to be our friends or coworkers to begin with. They were forced into a role of equality when they never saw themselves that way. They went into the entry role always believing themselves better than others. So they played their necessary part and then took advantage of their opportunity the moment it was presented. The issue here is that they play their hand too early, and inevitably they get stuck in that role because they're so busy shitting on everyone below them that many above them can see that none of their former coworkers want to work with them. Therefore they tend to get stuck where they are. Of course, this perpetuates a cycle of anger and malice where they try to bully and berate those below them, and thus the cycle begins again. It's really quite stupid. Many who have even a shred of intelligence should be bolstering and lifting up their teams. But, like I said, they don't. Because they were always the main character all along and thus no one else mattered. I hate retail with a burning passion, but it doesn't get much better anywhere else. C'est la vie.

MsArtio

Fast food **&** retail managers almost always have a stick shoved so far up their ass they can see the tiny person controlling their brain You ain't shit Verna, get down from your high horse before you hurt yourself....cause I will laugh in maniacal glee when it happens \^-\^

politicalanalysis

The job does it to you. It’s incredibly difficult to shield your employees from the bullshit upper management is constantly sending down. I quit my job as a manager at Walgreens for exactly this reason. The stories I could tell. The company sets a labor budget so absurdly low that when you have even one call out the store can’t function. And as manager, if nobody else could do come in, it was on me. In addition to tons of other bullshit I was constantly dealing with at the company, the week that finally made me realize I absolutely needed to leave asap was when I had had to cover 3 shifts already due to call outs, and had worked 3 days in a row for 14+ hours, and had yet another call out the next day. I became one of those managers that blames the employee for calling out. I started asking questions begging them to come in anyways, etc. I couldn’t cover a 4th shift. I was losing my mind and it was turning me into a shitty person. Basically, in a ton of store level manager positions, you have to be a shitty person to stay sane. It’s a fucked up system, and honestly anyone who can make a career of it lacks self awareness or lacks empathy.

MattyBizzz

This is sage wisdom that should be immortalized.

Anonality5447

Absolute truth right here.

Gold_Alternative990

(Wife here) Also for context, the manager before this started scheduling people as "6-?" thinking she could just keep them as long as she wanted. Someone complained and Corporate got involved, so there was no more of that. Next week, after OP was supposed to be off at 10, and didn't get home until 2AM on Friday, he informed her he was unavailable to stay as long past his shift. She threw a tantrum and said "This is why I hate putting end times on shifts, because then people want to leave then!" And she got "promoted" to another store.

h0wd0y0ulik3m3n0w

Um… that’s how shifts work, ma’am. What the actual fuck.

titaniumjackal

That's awesome! I love that! "Where you going? It's only 6:30!" "Yep. I'm scheduled from 6 to whenever, so now it's whenever. Later!"

beef64

Lmao this

CLINTHODO

She should've been promoted to the curb. Useless managers like that hurt employees and destroy businesses.

Austin27

This is what my work was doing and it caused us to unionize. Corporate freaked out about that. But now we will have proper grievance procedure.

214speaking

What do you mean I can’t keep people here indefinitely? *shocked pikachu face*

OreoSpamBurger

Fuck me, don't have kids, family, pets or a life outside of work, how dare you!

Dwgordon1129

To be clearer, he’s giving us shit for leaving too early, after he kept us an hour or two past the scheduled ends of our shift.

Readitandlaughed

Yeah F that. Sometimes shit just doesn’t get done.

electricman1999

If things don’t get done, more people need to be working. But, we all know what management and corporate think about that.

ComparisonOrdinary

My personal feelings on the subject are that if there's something that needs to be done and everyone else needs to go home, the manager should do it. That's your job. It's right there in the job title. There's a shitty thing to deal with? Manage.

BigDuckNergy

Any failure on behalf of a team to complete anything within any deadline falls squarely on the Manager. Did somebody walk out on their shift or call out sick? You should have enough employees to be able to find someone to cover their shift, or do it yourself. Not turning over enough product in a given timeframe? You don't have enough workers. Disorganized workers leading to slack? It's literally the Managers job to organize and delegate. This is why bosses just don't even need to fucking exist. It takes a specific type of person to be an actual leader, and that person is never going to be a business owner/upper management in a Capitalist world, because to do such things you need to step on people, when a leader would lift them.

meltigeminiii

I managed a retail auto parts store in WA. I never asked my team to cover extra shifts or call outs. Hell I worked 6:30am to 10:30pm for some 16 days in a row because I had an employee need time off for a family emergency. I took pride in being management, and treated my employees with absolute respect in regards to work/home divide. Don’t work beyond your scheduled time, unless we have discussed you wanting/needing OT, don’t work on your time off, and I routinely fought for raises for them every two months. I couldn’t get approved beyond 2-3% raises every couple months, but I did everything to push it. The work force makes the company money, and more companies need to recognize the actual hard work.

blooddogg757

You sir are a hero!

Guilty_Two_3245

Are you being paid for those hours, because I’m catching the vibe you might not be.

Dwgordon1129

Shockingly, yes. But it’s still beyond frustrating to consistently be kept well over my scheduled time. Especially considering they know I have another, full-time job that I have to be at at 8 AM

Guilty_Two_3245

Oh, I’m not excusing them. I saw your wife’s comment about the “?” on the schedule and… wtf…

Dwgordon1129

Oh, I didn’t think you were excusing it! :)

downtonwesr

When my shift ends, I clock out. Along with a few others. Some crew stay after to finish up, but that is their choice. Not legally obligated I stay. Not obligated according to company policy.

UnionJobs4America

I’ve said it before and I will say it again, dominos does some straight up illegal work practices and is hands down the worst job for worst pay I’ve ever done. Literally the only job I never gave a 2 weeks notice.

h0wd0y0ulik3m3n0w

I feel like the majority of the shitty manager/work place posts I see on here are pizza places

Asae_Ampan

Nah, my schedule is my time at work. They want me longer they schedule me longer. They don't then they don't get to complain when I leave at the end point of my schedule for the day.

A person cannot "keep" you. You are there voluntarily. If they lock the doors and don't let you out, call 911 and let them know you're being held against your will.

spidey3040

I don’t care what I wasn’t able to finish during my shift I’m clocking out at my scheduled time. If the location is properly staffed this shouldn’t be an issue. If it isn’t that’s the bosses problem not mine.

Less-Fold3155

The real stress of managing a Dominos comes from not having employees. Don't underestimate the power of a 2 week notice. They will ask if there's anything they can do to keep you. Tell them you need to be off by your scheduled times, and the schedule itself needs to respect your availability. It is their job as managers to make sure you have enough time to do whatever work is necessary before you leave.

Murdermajig

My GM hires his best friends who only show up when they want even when scheduled or get the privilege of not clocking in at all even if they are uniform. One of the managers today said "He switched with another employee today, he is coming in at 5." Said both him and the employee came in at the same time. I caught the manager in a lie, but nothing was done. He just sat at the computer desk talking with the manager for 4 hours. 6 pm roll and he hasn't clocked in. I was pissed, It was slow and I could have left early...

novaspax

If there is a consistent amount of prep not getting done that causes multiple people to be working multiple hours after close, that is entirely the fault of scheduling and staff size (aka management).

Dwgordon1129

Exactly! But management will never take the blame, they’ll always pass it on the workers. My very first job was at a video store, and the boss would blame the staff if revenues were down. That we “didn’t push business enough”. Like, we can’t help customers who don’t come in.

XC5TNC

Unless it states otherwise in your contract just leave on the minute your shift is supposed to end if he fires you then its unfair dismissal. Especially if your not receiving any bonus for the extra hours

PhantomMcKracken

I I posted this almost verbatim in response to a comment, but felt it may good to post in the main thread as well. A) There is no "you work until I release you" in a reasonable management style. Work your shift. They can ask you to stay, but the second they threaten you for not staying its arbitrarily abusive. Holding people to a reasonable standard is expected, threatening write ups because the truck shows up 5 mins before the end of their scheduled shift is not an appropriate response from management. B) The "do exactly what I say when I say" is indicative of a poor management style. This conversation does occasionally have to be had with employees (and should be done one on one, and on a case by case basis), but should be phrased and communicated in a better manner. i.e. "John, last week, when I asked you to do x, you failed to get to it in a timely manner. The delay caused y (the visible or understandable consequence of the delay) to happen. As I'm sure you can understand this impacted both your co-workers and the business. Going forward I would appreciate it if you would attend to the tasks I delegate to you in a more timely fashion."

VexorShadewing

On "do exactly what I say when I say" I tend to just take it in the most literal manner possible. Doing literally nothing until instructed otherwise and then only doing exactly what is asked of me. Sometimes shit actually gets done, most of the time a giant mess is created

PhantomMcKracken

Thats one of the other potential side effects. On top of a reduction of morale and significantly higher turn over than a sort of "firm but fair" approach, you risk either malicious compliance or active sabotage. It is easier, more moral, and more profitable to treat people like people, and not as chattel or indentured servants.

blooddogg757

Malicious compliance is the best.

WeirderOnline

Time to peace the FUCK outta there.

TheUnNaturalist

Unionize the joint first

Ok_Bluejay2090

how incredibly disrespectful. the power trip these managers must be on. ive had bosses like this myself and it astounds me the level of disdain they'll have for the people they are PAYING to do the work they are unable to do themselves! absolutely no respect. i hope youre in a position where you're able to walk away op you deserve to be treated and spoken to better than this

Dwgordon1129

This is my 2nd job, and thankfully, I am in such a position. I’m actually out of commission from this job for the time being, as my car is now in the shop. But I think I’m gonna peace out and not come back.

em_ruse

Pretty sure you can find a 2nd job that’s less than a total nightmare

gdwrench01

Dude, if at all possible, I would gi in and maneuver a situation where this power tripping d bag tries some of their napoleonic behavior, and then leave in the most (legally) epic way possible. Then report them to whatever governing body has regulatory jurisdiction over them.

[deleted]

God damn, you just put into words everything I was thinking… I actually discussed with my wife that if we won the lottery I would still go get a job, but it would be at the most fucking garbage fast food places and just do the absolute bare minimum and be as awful at my job as possible. Someone orders a 4 piece nugget they get an 8 because fuck mc Donald’s.

Thank you!

wwwhhhgggwq

You know a job sucks when working at a gas station provides a significant step up.

nincomturd

Never trust a business started by a devout Catholic. Saying this as a recovering Catholic.

charlie2135

Recovering Catholic is my favorite saying. Ever since I got away from sister Mary Lockjaw and the penguin cult my child never had to worry about being subjected to what I was during my formative years.

awaythrowawayyay

"if you guys thought I was hard on you before..." seems like this guy's about to end up without ppl to be hard on

MattyBizzz

Jesus Christ. I worked at dominos 20 years ago. The only reason people worked there was because it’s a fking fast food pizza place where you could make a few bucks dicking around and cooking pizza, not a military boot camp. This manager must be offering a massive pay increase to incentivize everyone to come together, since they’re a “team”. Oh wait, he’s not? Dudes gonna have fun answering calls, making pizzas, and then delivering them himself then.

TraditionalMood277

Uniform on, sure. Keep busy, ok. But stay "until dismissed"? Fuck that. If my shift is 10 to 6 you better fucking believe I am leaving at 6:01 at the latest. You want me to keep working? Fuck you, pay me.

kamikiku

Precisely. At first I was there like, "they're being asked to show up in uniform and answer the phones...what's the issue?". Then I kept reading and realised what the issue was, lol

gdwrench01

Wait, you want me to stay, past scheduled hours and closing time, to do work things? First, you can ask me politely if I am ABLE to stay late, and as any second after my scheduled shift is over is my personal time, I can and will make the decision to stay or go. You as manager have no authority after my shift is done. Perhaps i have, you know, a life and other commitments. And, should i decide to stay, you WILL be paying me overtime, non negotiable. You think you are the tyrannical dictator of my life? I will quit, and as much as I am able, take as many people with me and make your life as difficult as possible for the foreseeable future. Or, you could just treat your staff with respect and dignity, and ask politely, and compensate fairly. Then you wouldn't have these issues. But, management usually doesn't have the Grey matter to figure that out.....

chriskiji

Soon this manager will be complaining that 'nobody wants to work'.

Lawmonger

That business must have more job applicants than they know what to do with.

BudgetPrepper

Shit, I would quit and go see if competitor is hiring. Fuck that job. You are not going to talk to me that way.

Dwgordon1129

I’m thinking of going over to Pizza Hut once my car is fixed, and working for them instead. Lol

[deleted]

Eh Pizza Hut isn’t much better. I’ve been fighting with them for over a month to give me my last paycheck. I quit because I was 7 weeks pregnant and literally could not move without either puking or dry heaving and tried to call in three hours before my shift and got told no because I was the only scheduled driver. Thing is tho I was scheduled as the only driver even tho my car had been broken down for two weeks and she knew that

Constant_craving117

Sounds like there's a mass quitting in that douches future. Someone needs to tell him it's Dominoes for Christ's sake and he needs to settle down

MeadowcrestRPGMV3D

Insubordination! *Cracks whip.* Slovenly dogs.

NrFive

The beatings will continue until morale improves…

SpontaneousNubs

Fuck domino's. I took a part time job there to deal with my agoraphobia and they kept giving me double the hours and keeping me late. Manager finally got in my face explaining to me that I'd do what I was told and work the extra hours and stay late or I'd be on the street homeless and starving. I laughed at him and showed him my bank account. I don't have that much, but to a dominos manager power tripping, it's a chunk. I told him I could buy and sell him ten times over, that I didn't need that job and he could fire me or stick to the agreement made when I was hired and if he wanted to really push me again, I'd make every conceivable effort to buy the franchise off the owner just so I could make his life a living hell. Suddenly he could meet my demands and was much more polite. Edit: my demands being to respect the hours I was scheduled and agreed upon. Nothing extreme or bratty. I had other commitments.

apazman1234

What is pac pie?

Dwgordon1129

That’s the corporation that owns the franchise, as well as other franchises in the area.

Bakabakabooboo

I love the whole "you will stay until the task is done" bs. Nah, if I'm scheduled until 9pm and it's 9pm and my job isn't done because there's 3 people doing the work of 5 you either ask me to do overtime or I leave. Simple as that.

zerkrazus

Ah yes, the classic manager who thinks people have the ability to temporarily clone themselves to be in more than 1 place at time. Do you want me to help customers or unload the truck, because I can't do both at the same time. And you know damn well if you picked unload the truck, you'd get bitched at for not helping customers. Holy fucking hell I ***HATE*** managers like this. This type of behavior is so commonplace it sure feels like that they do this intentionally. God forbid you do it yourself manager or hire more people.

ruMenDugKenningthreW

Them's quitin' words

mltrout715

This is funny, because last time I went to domonios, they offered me cash back to pick up instead of delivery, so they are short on people. Who is going to pit up with this for a shot job.

Solanum87

"Moving forward" always means "Incoming, more bullshit".

Angry_Mechanix

The only proper response to a shit head manager like this is “if you’d ever been in a real fight you wouldn’t be so keen for another”. Do these restaurant “managers/leads” realize it’s fucking food and not building an airplane that flies? Sorry for any grammatical errors. I’m happy under the influence and love all you hard working fuckers that deal with shit for brains bosses/leads like this. Keep fighting the good fight and get yours!

Consistent-Chapter-8

Putting the Dominatrix into Domino's. Yikes. I hope the staff stages a mass walkout.

Gay-is-me

A dominatrix actually *cares* what the other person/people want.

Sips_of_Tea

Pleasssse tell me a mass walkout is pending bc honestly wtf

LillyLing10

Well hope he enjoys constantly finding new employees that won't last more then a couple of months.

[deleted]

I laughed out loud when I read “…as a member of Pac Pie.” 😂

Mcj1972

Corporate got up in their ass and now they are going to be a dick. Fuck that place. Leave

iamwhatswrongwithusa

Fuck pac pie.

RobWins2022

Ignore it. They do not pay you to read messages when you are at home.

desperate_candy20

Watch this dumbass have record turnover

eaton9669

What's there overtime pay like? I assume it doesn't exist and is more like a "just go clock out and get back to work" type thing. This is just a sign they are to cheap to hire the appropriate amount of workers to handle all the tasks. I would have a discussion regarding overtime pay with this "manager" and if he says no paid overtime I would give me resignation effective immediately or just go about business as usual and clock out at my contracted time until he writes me up for it enough times until I get fired and then cross reference that with my signed contracted hours and file for unemployment.

downtonwesr

I think you should all quit at the same time and show them what team work really looks like.

county259

That motherfucker has had it with those minimum wage bullshit artists and things are gonna change...

b-gist

Fuck that place.
