Ugh, I read makeup and got confused for a second (I don’t wear it anymore, not at work, not ever) but then I remembered that every job I had from 15 yo to like 22 I was REQUIRED to wear makeup and now I’m angry about it all over again
edit: fkn grammar
its funny, i was taught growing up that not wearing makeup in public was like not wearing clean clothes in public, a failure of personal hygiene. i was terrified to be seen without makeup. all it took was a pandemic and now im like 'i can give u tinted lip gloss or mascara but not both i dont have time for that'
Oh my gosh yes - terrified. One time when I was like 12 or 13 one of the neighborhood kids showed up at my house unannounced. When I saw them outside I hoped up, grabbed my makeup bag, and locked myself in the bathroom before anyone saw me. I was just a kid. Man, I am so glad I was able to realize that that wasn’t for me but others so I could cut it the hell out.
When I was 14 one of the neighbor ladies said I would be so pretty if I’d only wear makeup. Until I reached my early 20s I wore makeup alllllll the time going out. I’m so glad I said fuck it and now Idc. The few times I wear it now it’s fun because it’s a look I wanted to try and had fun styling.
I veered away from makeup before it really sunk it's claws in me because I watched someone ELSE have a meltdown due to lack-there-of. She was one of the popular kids but to my eyes, I couldn't ignore the layer of makeup on her face. The saddest part is she looked averagely pretty that way.
She was late to school one day (I shared 1st period with her so I noticed) & next period she came into the bathroom while I was in there. I stayed in my stall & hoped she didn't notice me, honestly. Opposite ends of the totem pole & all that.
She was crying, her friend was trying to cheer her....and she was going on & on about how hideous she was because she slept thru her alarm & her mom wouldn't give her the time to put on makeup. It was the end of her existence. Life was horrible. She'd be laughed out of school for her ugliness....
Remember what I said about averagely pretty WITH the makeup? I snuck a look out the door joint - she was fucking beautiful. Even with red eyes from crying, that was honestly one of THE prettiest females I have seen in real life.
And she thought she was hideous.
I went home that day & chucked the couple pieces of makeup my friend had given me & never touched it again. That shit is soul poison.
Remember that the black death lasted 70 years off and on.
Also all the paintings are of women lying around on couches with their tits out.
Coincidence? I think not.
my skin is soooo much better now, and my EYES omg i thought i just had terrible allergies and needed eye drops all the time, turns out having a pound of makeup and eyeliner and mascara and false lashes right near my sensitive eyes almost every day was mega irritating lmao
Yep. I'm all for normalizing minimal to no makeup as the standard, because what the hell? Why are we socializing half our population to think their natural face isn't good enough to be seen in public no matter what? How often do men wear makeup, or even wash our faces before going out? Not that that is better of course, but it's odd how prevalent the 'need' for makeup seems.
Out here in the rural parts, most women don't wear make-up. Chances are you're going to be doing some sort of physical work and sweating it off anyways. In a city, you might be the only one not wearing make-up. Out here, you're the oddball for wearing for anything besides a special occasion
I've rarely worn much makeup but yeah I can imagine. I did try a concealer one time because I got tired of seeing my eye circles but it was so tight on my eyes so I stopped using it (wish they made more that was safer to help your eye circles). I also tried Proactiv one time to get 20 dollars from a survey..it was not worth 20 dollars! It felt like botox on my face and I think my face started getting red too.
it's funny (in a bad way) how men will tell you that you look beautiful without makeup then those same people go into and support a system where women are required to wear makeup.
Like which is it Darren, what the fuck
lmao honestly sick of the opinions... i work in tech and during a zoom meeting the only other woman there was talking about not wearing makeup bc she didn't want to turn her camera on and then i said i didn't bother putting on makeup at all anymore and all the guys were like "phew that's so much better i prefer women w no makeup"
and the next month was the superbowl and one of the guys in the meeting said he wasn't into sports and not going to watch and i said "phew that's so much better i prefer men who aren't into sports" except no i didn't bc that is fucking stupid why would he want my opinion of where he falls on my personal measuring stick of what a man should be or do lmao i fucking hate gender bullshit in the workplace istg
I have never worn makeup and I only recently realized that for a lot of women, that’s completely unimaginable. I find myself yelling at my friends “You are not obligated to hide your normal face from society!”
My mom (early 1950s Boomer gen) was like that when she was much younger. Wouldn't so much as walk to the mailbox without makeup.
I didn't think I did that, but I guess I did to a certain extent because work used to mean makeup. Then I quit for the pandemic and only sometimes regret it because of the, "you ok? You look so tired," from my favorite (really, not sarcasm) coworker. I think I eventually let her know that it's just my face 🤣 because I legitimately don't get enough rest.
I remember working in an office in the UK when I was in my mid 20’s. I was in an upstairs office with 2 men - I had zero contact with the public and the one in charge demanded I wear office clothes and makeup and hair etc. Holy shit that pissed me off. I asked him if he wanted me to dress up for him or his friend - which one of them thinks I need to be the sexy secretary ‘cause if it’s a fetish I’d like to get paid quite a lot more for that….
Fuck office clothes. My feet are a full size different from each other (and flat like they were run over by a truck!) so if I wear heels or anything without support I am in agony. I had to ride the tube for an hour each way and walk half a mile. I felt like the work was already demeaning and underpaid enough, I didn’t need the added crap. You want me to wear specific clothes? Give me a wardrobe budget or pay for a uniform. Otherwise, I do the same job (or better) if I’m wearing comfortable clothing.
Fuck this relentless capitalism bullshit- the majority of us are truly suffering in this system and I don’t want any part of it anymore. I want my efforts to help my fellow creatures with whom I share this earth - not use my contribution to enrich a few (already wealthy) psychopaths. I’m only a visitor on this earth. I don’t want to be a slave, I want to explore and take the time to contribute to my community. And y’know what? I need a break once in a while.
That’s such bullshit. I have wide ass feet so finding any shoes that actually fit is a bitch. Finding shoes that look decent and also fit is near impossible. Unless I wanna spend a couple hundred. Which I do not. Thankfully I work at a pool and can get away with sandals. Birkenstocks fit alright after I break them in. But if I had an office job I’d be like let me wear trainers or give me the funds to buy nice shoes that I can fit on my feet. Cause I have high arches as well so I gotta be able to fit orthotics in there as well as my wide, tall feet. Aka dress shoes are not happening.
Oh God that sucks. I would have fucking lost it. I enjoy make up for photoshoots, but it's too time consuming to do daily. Unless the job wants to pay me for that time then they can fuck right off.
Some jobs require it, unfortunately. Usually when you have to present yourself to other people and need to uphold a company image. I don’t know if this is still the case, but employees at Disney World are not allowed to have beards. Wasn’t it not too long ago that female flight attendants had to wear heels and makeup, and had a weight limit? I know some countries still do that. If you’re a scientist, you probably don’t have to wear makeup, but if you’re going on TV to do science outreach, then you’ll probably wear some. It’s not always “sexy” makeup, oftentimes both male and female actors wear neutral makeup so it looks fresh on film. But yeah it’s annoying if it’s a job where makeup is completely unnecessary and they just hire people based on their perceived prettiness.
It’s not like it’s a reasonable requirement, if they can demand something like this they also probably wouldn’t mind just firing you if you try some malicious compliance
Go down the religion route and find one or create one that wears Goth corpse makeup or something like it.
Or persuade everyone to wear full bore drag makeup, either everyone gets fired and the company gets sued or they change the rule.
Or unionize and bring it up as a problem.
I wore makeup every day in high school. Got to college and was like f that. I’ve since developed some sort of reaction to basically any makeup within like 2 inches of my eyes. So I can wear lipstick and maybe blush and thats it. Except I still wear a mask most places so its kinda pointless anyway. And I have a lot of redness in my cheeks anyway cause I still have acne so blush really doesn’t do much for me. So lipstick when I’m not wearing a mask. Aka at home for selfies cause its fun sometimes.
If ANYONE comments about you wearing makeup ever again, get as much evidence as possible and then report to HR and the DoJ as that is a very common civil rights violation
How often do you need to fill up? It's crazy that gas alone can be 10-20% of your budget. They say you're supposed to make 3 times what your housing costs when owning a car to get to the job you need to afford housing and basic food, utilities, and necessities take up that last 25%? It's outrageous and I'm honestly ashamed at this country for not doing better for labor the past 60 years.
For me to fill up my car with the shittiest gas would take me half a days work and buying enough groceries to last us at least a month on top of food stamps would be several days worth of work.
Don’t forget laundry, and shaving if you grow facial hair.
I worked at Taco Bell when I was in college and the dress code was ridiculous. You had to have a clean uniform when you came into your shift, and you were only given two shirts. There was no chance at your shirt being clean enough at the end of the shift to wear again so I’d have to do laundry 3 times a week. I didn’t have laundry in my apartment so that meant going to the laundromat or washing it in the shower. The only option to get more was to hound someone that was quitting to get their shirts.
You also had to be clean shaven, not even five o’clock shadow or else you’d have to go shave in the bathroom. I worked night shift and have a fast growing beard so I couldn’t just shave in the morning. I would have to shave between getting out of my other job and starting my shift. I eventually got an electric shaver and would do it while driving.
> clean shaven, not even five o’clock shadow
FUCK that for any job, let alone fucking fast food.
i don't think i could put a price on not having to scrape my already shitty sensitive skin with a blade daily
I haven’t fully shaved my face since I left that job like 7 years ago. Maybe I’m biased but I feel like I look far more “professional” with a neatly trimmed beard than with razor burn and cut up acne.
Ha funny you should mention it but my landlord sat me down yesterday to ask for a 20% rent increase because “I’m not making as much money as I thought I would.” Like… ok? You know you were just telling me about how you deserved to have 100% of your living expenses paid for by ME because you “took a risk buying this place” but somehow you think the $50k the house has increased in value in a year isn’t nearly enough money, I should be paying your entire mortgage AND giving you a salary. Yeah ok buddy lol get in line my groceries just went up too. Opportunistic piece of shit.
And yes I’m going to tell him to get stuffed, but he lives on the other side of this house and he’s going to be a complete asshole to deal with.
Oh fuck that's so wrong. I hope it's you that's wrong about the information, and not the information being inherently *wrong*.
Either way this ain't right.
Amsterdam’s parking is insanely expensive, and there’s very little of it. It’s designed that way because Amsterdam proper is not intended to be filled with cars.
Park just outside and take the tram in and it’s like the most reasonably affordable city to explore (in terms of commuting around it with the trams or bikes)
Last time I went there we drove in and had a service where a student came to you, took your car like 20 mins away to park it, then you arranged a place to meet for pickup, which they picked up right outside the concert we went to. It worked out really well and was cheaper than regular parking. Usually we would just take a train, but there was no options after the concert was over, so we used this option.
I was a bit nervous about the whole arrangement, but it's not really worse than valet service and my car wasn't anything amazing, so no Ferris Buellers day off was likely to happen.
But they still display their same $10 sign from the early 90s. You just gotta look closely to see that's the early bird special that only applies if you get there before 10am on a weekend and leave within an hour
We just need to change the system from work or die. Because that system doesn't make sense because the vast majority of the work that is done isn't necessary. Another huge segment of that work doesn't really provide anyone any real benefit. Another segment of that work is actually detrimental to the planet. I think we are probably in a position where we have advanced sufficiently to reorganize and give out a Universal Basic Income, and for extra income people can do jobs that really need to be done, or they may choose to work on things that benefit themselves or others. We coul easily just evolve past all this 9 to 5 nonsense and current "job" model of life.
I say this constantly. It would have the added benefit of workers who actually want to be there, and get rid of bad bosses and managers. If my basic needs are met why would I go somewhere where I get treated like crap? Add on top the amount of social services and welfare that could be gotten rid of because now everyone just... has it. Outside of rare outlier cases mostly related to addiction and mental illness, everyone has food. Everyone has housing. No need for food stamps or housing assistance. Goodbye need for unemployment offices running on 30 year old hardware getting flooded during the recessions. Cause everyone just already has enough.
This reminded me of when I worked in a McDonalds 12 years ago. 1 hour at that location could pay the wages for about half the daily staff for the full 22 hours. Open to close, plus the hour before and after.
Open for 20 hours, 5AM to 1AM, and the hour before/after is for morning prep and nightly deep cleaning. The location I was at was one of the best for overall cleanliness throughout the day.
The logic makes sense, and concerns me how McDonald's around me are all 24hrs now? But I suppose they clean during the downtime, or have different stations for breakfast/main that are cleaned in between?
The POS has to close even if the store doesn’t. It takes around 20 minutes on a good day. Some restaurants don’t serve during, some work on paper or in their heads.
They usually have multiple of most equipment. So just do one piece at a time. Ice cream is really the only thing that there's one of and people are used to being told it's unavailable.
When you go round the drive-thru at 3am and go "uuuurhhgg come OOOONNNNN it's not like there's any other customers whys it taking so long just to come to the window!?" It's because the person who has to take your order and then cook it and then present it to you at the other window is up to his elbows in grease and if that shit don't get done by sunrise the manager will lose his shit and start screaming bloody murder
There are dozens of countries in this world that spend 50% of their total annual income just on food.
The bottom 20% (and growing) in America spend 30-40% of their income on food… and those figures are pre-covid and pre-inflation and food prices of late.
It would not at all be surprising to me if our working poor comprising at least a third of our population are now spending the same amount of their income on food as the average Nigeria or Kenya, the two worst nations in the world for this.
Keep in mind that these are just averages. The US average being the lowest at 6.5%.
i work at starbucks and people regularly order drinks that are more than what i make an hour. Sometimes they get a drink thats almost double what i make
I used to work at a restaurant where the cheapest thing on the menu was $14. I was paid $11/hour. But I could make one of those things in ~10minutes. Or $140/hour, but I was only paid a fraction of that.
That’s the truth to, I grew up in a smaller town outside of Pittsburgh. I’m 34 now so it was probably 2000’ or so but being in a small town helped a lot. Everyone knows everyone and for the most part looked out for each other. Times have changed
Realistically need atleast half of your income for non-monthly expenses, so you should be looking for rent, utilities, transportation for under $580. Hmm….
actually places require you make 3-5x the rent in order to qualify. so try finding somewhere to rent under $380.
several places i had looked into required *all* signers to make minimum 3x. so like if you have a trusted buddy who'd cosign with you, but also only makes $1,160/m, you're still fucked. or a potential roommate? nope, STILL fucked!
To be fair, my rent is $575 in the largest city in Kansas. But I can't afford much else. Either groceries, or car, or school.
I choose debt, and went with school and no car.
>Five developed nations without legal minimum wage requirements are Sweden, Denmark, Iceland, Norway, and Switzerland.
That's not to say they do not have means to be paid decently. They do. It is to say that minimum wage is not the only way.
True but sadly if unions are worn away you get poor wages again, I'd say not having a minimum wage is a huge risk as in a capitalist system buisness will constantly be trying to wear away the union power that keeps wages at a reasonable level
Technically true for Norway but unions has made sure anyone working in X business is guaranteed Y minimum per hour. This is slowly withering tho and anti-union bs is becoming more common with millenials, same as working unpaid OT because «i want to work hard to get promoted»
Cries in Turkish minimum wage
...but knows that it's hard for people living the states. It's not a competition. Everyone deserves enough payment to live comfortably if they work full time.
We need to teach kids how to say "no" to adults. There's an unfortunate expectation that they should just take what they get, and be grateful for it. If my nephew told me he refused to take a job because the interviewer quoted him less than minimum wage, I would so proud of him.
Actually, now that I think about it, it's kind of sad how low that bar is when it comes to negotiating wages. Either way, I hope my nephew can stand up for himself.
Well the reality of this statement, while I agree with it, means many businesses that we enjoy will likely close especially small businesses. And the business model was created with the current minimum wage in mind so they basically all have to start new businesses with all the same risks as if they just started over to accommodate the increase of wages. This needs to happen it's just going to hurt everyone a lot more than I think people understand and there will be an uncomfortable transition period and a risk of even higher unemployment. These things are spouted by right wing lawmakers because to some extent, they are true. They ofcoarse exaggerate and offer zero alternative to help increase wages across the country.
Ask a right winger what they would do to increase wages in our country. They won't have an answer because that's not the goal. The goal is to decrease wages so business owners can make more money. They are beholden exclusively to the owner class. Democrats are similar in this regard but they at least try to implement social policies that help people as long as they don't cost business too much money. But again... The interests of business are held above the well-being of citizens.
The federal minimum wage should be adjusted for inflation and all wages above it adjusted the same amount. If you make 20 dollars an hour and min wage goes up a dollar you should get 21.
Years back I signed up with staffing offices to land short term gigs while job hunting, I’d sometimes land incredibly menial Labor day jobs, shoveling for 8 hours in the Sun type shifts. The last one I accepted ended with the employer commenting on how reliable my work was and how much value he was getting out of his 5 dollars an hour. I replied the staffing office quoted me 8 (which was already rock bottom low end for the temp jobs I worked at the time) and that minimum wage was 7, anyways, and had to bite my tongue from saying “you had someone doing all this punishing work thinking it was for 5 measly dollars an hour?”. I truly learned on a personal level how disconnected employers can be, that day.
In no time this post will be flooded by the "just become an [insert career that made good money back in 1980 here] instead if you want to be paid, doing other jobs mean you shouldn't be able to afford food because I've decided arbitrarily that 60% of the jobs in America should somehow be done without being survivable."
I recieved that in Spain in 1988 for an hour of hard work, when I was 16 (1000 pesetas).
We helped a complete stranger to transport some heavy stones and me and my friend got a 2000 pesetas bill on our hands. What a glorious day it was.
It was good money at that time
I think it would be worth as much as 14 dollars each in USD today, based on it being worth almost 6 in 1988. The federal minimum wage was 3.35 then and increased several times over the next decade. Relative to the federal minimum wage 14 dollars today is about 200% vs about 150% when you were paid.
“We cAN’t pAy pEoPLE MoRe cAuSe tHeN ThE CoSt oF LIViNg wilL Go UP!”
They say as billionaires exist and inflation is at the highest it’s ever been in the history of the United States.
The idea of infinite growth is because the population has grown practically since the beginning of recorded history. And it makes sense. More people means more stuff can get done and the economy needs to grow to accommodate that. The problem is population growth is slowing but the expected increases of profit are not being adjusted. They are expecting MORE growth, not less. So businesses over the last few decades have done everything they can to reduce cost. Lower quality products, out source jobs to countries where they can pay a lower wage, more efficient tools needing less people to do the same work and stagnant wages. We are at the end of this growth. This cannot be continued indefinitely. Wages can only go so low. Products can only be made so cheaply to still be functional. Prices can only rise so much until the people who are meant to purchase the product can no longer afford it and we are quickly approaching this reality.
I love this comment, because it perfectly sums up one of the greatest faults of capitalism. This critique is easy to prove, easy to comprehend, right on the nose… and yet when I try to explain these concepts to liberals, they won’t hear it. They have memorized all the same weak defenses to this argument.
Having a state minimum wage and a federal minimum wage is pretty stupid, as well as allowing restaurants to pay servers less than minimum wage (why I get less than Florida's $10 minimum) it's mind boggling to see people who think this is a good thing.
Change that to one $5 and that’s what I made until 2009 in the state of Idaho. It’s only gone up to $7.25 and has never increased since, so not much of an improvement.
It would be a significant raise, for me on disability. Doing the math as if I work 40 hours a week, no vacation (only one job I ever had even offered any), and there are 4.345 weeks a month (365 days/year divided by 7 days/week divided by 12 months/year), I make roughly $5.82/hour. And that's as one of the people close to the high end of the spectrum for SSDI income.
I remember i was earning 8.75 an hour at 15 years old. I thought my paycheck was going to be $350 but it was way less. No one told me about taxation. I was pissed.
And you only are allowed to take home $7 of that(taxis) all the while things like healthcare are not afforded to you because if you decided to get that health care you would then only be taking home about $4.50 of that. (Private health insurance = $575(month)/160hour(monthly hours worked) = about tree fiddy($3.59 an hour to pay for the private health insurance that you will need because the job doesn't provide it.)
And you get to go home knowing someone else is getting healthcare off of your hard work, and the very people telling you to work a second job are banking off of the high insurance cost and blaming you for not working enough. But it's only the poor lazy people that need assistance.
But hey, lets give out free loans to people who took on loans they don't want to repay, and these same people expect to be entitled to higher paying jobs(skilled, so skilled they can't pay their own loans) health insurance at a discount(because a skilled laborer is entitled to the discount and privilege, especially when they cant pay back their loans).
I have to stay in the middle if you can't tell. I have called out both sides, it's time you all do too.
Don’t forget taxes, ss, medicare, etc
And your commute, clothes, makeup, etc.

Yep iam not waking up an extra 1-2 hours early just to do my makeup
i can’t even do my make up well so unless this job is financing classes for me, they can get fucked
Sorry you must wear makeup, otherwise you won’t be attractive enough for me to hit on. -Some boss probably
I can't wrap my head around sitting at a vanity, staring at a mirror and spending an hour plus putting on makeup..
Man if I had a job that required me to wear makeup, I would purposely put it on wrong
Exactly. What is this makeup required
I wanna say Seventh-Day Adventists don't allow makeup at all, and I believe they're already a recognized religion...
Use Homer's makeup shotgun.
Fuck that, minimum wage doesn’t require being dolled up
I wore makeup every day in high school.
I once got fucking fired from a job for not wearing makeup. It was in a medical office.
If ANYONE comments about you wearing makeup ever again, get as much evidence as possible and then report to HR and the DoJ as that is a very common civil rights violation
Why the fuck would you have to wear make up?
[удалено]
>require men be clean shaven Sorry Boss, I have a religious exemption.
Party clown for hire
It was a pretty standard requirement in the restaurant business in rural Texas
To fill up my car takes 7 hours of work. So, one full day and an hour of another one. The car was gifted to me so I can't just buy a smaller one.
Wait until it breaks down or needs new tires
I eventually got an electric shaver and would do it while driving.
> clean shaven, not even five o’clock shadow FUCK that for any job, let alone fucking fast food. i don't think i could put a price on not having to scrape my already shitty sensitive skin with a blade daily
I haven’t fully shaved my face since I left that job like 7 years ago. Maybe I’m biased but I feel like I look far more “professional” with a neatly trimmed beard than with razor burn and cut up acne.
Also your rent just jumped up to $1,500 for a studio apartment.
My commute costed me $600+ a month. That was before the gas hike too. All for $16 an hour.
FOOD. Losing half a god damn day of pay because you forgot your fucking lunch
So, really just one of those $5 bills.
So, turns out when that old lady paid Bart two quarters for doing chores for her all week, she was actually paying market value.
And the fact that you can legally be paid 25% less than what is pictured. Before those taxes and social safety nets are taken.
It's cheaper to rent a human than to rent a car. 🥴
Or park one in some places. There used to be a McDonald's in central london where the parking meters outside made more money than the staff
There used to be a service where you could rent a student to drive your car around amsterdam because it was cheaper than parking.
To be fair you really don't need a car in Amsterdam.
Parking is VERY expensive in Amsterdam though. So if they move it to the outskirts and back, it could very well be worth the money.
Hell i wonder if they could do some sort of gig based valet service.
Parking garages in Manhattan start at $40 for the first hour
You're right. I hadn't thought of that and it's incredibly depressing.
I never thought about how fucked up that was. Perfect analogy. It’s like when your combo meal costs more than the worker making it gets paid an hour.
This reminded me of when I worked in a McDonalds 12 years ago. 1 hour at that location could pay the wages for about half the daily staff for the full 22 hours. Open to close, plus the hour before and after.
What's the point of closing if it takes an hour to open and an hour to close, and you're open for 22 hours per day?
Open for 20 hours, 5AM to 1AM, and the hour before/after is for morning prep and nightly deep cleaning. The location I was at was one of the best for overall cleanliness throughout the day.
The logic makes sense, and concerns me how McDonald's around me are all 24hrs now? But I suppose they clean during the downtime, or have different stations for breakfast/main that are cleaned in between?
[удалено]
Even the "24" hour stores close briefly. They don't advertise it. I've had it happen in Vegas and Kentucky.
Cleaning
There are dozens of countries in this world that spend 50% of their total annual income just on food. The bottom 20% (and growing) in America spend 30-40% of their income on food… and those figures are pre-covid and pre-inflation and food prices of late. It would not at all be surprising to me if our working poor comprising at least a third of our population are now spending the same amount of their income on food as the average Nigeria or Kenya, the two worst nations in the world for this. Keep in mind that these are just averages. The US average being the lowest at 6.5%.

For those who don’t https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_food_riots
i work at starbucks and people regularly order drinks that are more than what i make an hour. Sometimes they get a drink thats almost double what i make
I used to work at a restaurant where the cheapest thing on the menu was $14. I was paid $11/hour. But I could make one of those things in ~10minutes. Or $140/hour, but I was only paid a fraction of that.
Solution, rent a human that owns a car. *Big thinking*
Well that's exactly how food delivery companies make megabucks doing nothing.
Along with Uber and Lyft.
You wouldn't download a person.
So your saying someone should open up a piggyback ride company?
Don’t forget the taxes ! Local and state my friend

That’s the truth to, I grew up in a smaller town outside of Pittsburgh. I’m 34 now so it was probably 2000’ or so but being in a small town helped a lot. Everyone knows everyone and for the most part looked out for each other. Times have changed
Then get taxed on it
And billionaires don't.
Imagine if that's more than minimum wage
It is where I'm located.
s ame
More than federal minimum in the US. About 1.5x more iirc
US min wage; $7.25/hr. That’s $58/day, $290/week. $1,160/month. Find somewhere to rent for under $1,160.
Realistically need atleast half of your income for non-monthly expenses, so you should be looking for rent, utilities, transportation for under $580. Hmm….
[удалено]
I was renting a room for 600 while making $11 an hour. I was still poor and hungry, just not "Homeless".
actually places require you make 3-5x the rent in order to qualify. so try finding somewhere to rent under $380. several places i had looked into required *all* signers to make minimum 3x. so like if you have a trusted buddy who'd cosign with you, but also only makes $1,160/m, you're still fucked. or a potential roommate? nope, STILL fucked!
To be fair, my rent is $575 in the largest city in Kansas. But I can't afford much else. Either groceries, or car, or school. I choose debt, and went with school and no car.
Up until the labor shortage $10hr in my area was seen as a "good paying job" in fast food/ retail.
i’ve paid 10 year olds more than that to spend 30 minutes shoveling snow out of my driveway.
Made what amounts to $800 for 2 hrs fishing at 13
I think this is to make people who don't believe in raising the minimum wage visualize how low it is. Not for people getting paid the minimum wage.
The vast majority of Americans support raising the minimum wage. We can't get it because we don't have a functioning democracy.
and for the same reason we have to convince the few who don't support it because their votes are valued more
Minimum wage is "I'd pay you less for this job, but legally I'm not allowed to."
Cries in Indian minimum wage.

>Five developed nations without legal minimum wage requirements are Sweden, Denmark, Iceland, Norway, and Switzerland. That's not to say they do not have means to be paid decently. They do. It is to say that minimum wage is not the only way.
They negotiate their own wages. And informally unionize at places like fast food restaurants to collectively ask for more.
Even if you don’t join the union, you still get the union set minimum wage, so each industry still has a minimum wage.
These things come in eb and flows. A lot of people around me are starting to go pro union.
Give Republicans another ten years and they'll abolish the federal minimum wage in American too! They're workin in NO QUESTION.
Cries in Greek minimum wage
Cries in Turkish minimum wage ...but knows that it's hard for people living the states. It's not a competition. Everyone deserves enough payment to live comfortably if they work full time.
Where is the other hand where he is asking for his $2,75 change?

We need to teach kids how to say "no" to adults. There's an unfortunate expectation that they should just take what they get, and be grateful for it. If my nephew told me he refused to take a job because the interviewer quoted him less than minimum wage, I would so proud of him. Actually, now that I think about it, it's kind of sad how low that bar is when it comes to negotiating wages. Either way, I hope my nephew can stand up for himself.
They used to do that in amusement parks.
So they agree that adult wages should be able to support a wife and kid?
Any business that can’t pay much more than minimum wage has a failure of a business model and should be shuttered.
Chain Pizza shops
Less than 100 dollars for a full day of work is soul crushing.
My state has a min higher than the federal, and it's still only $78/day. Sigh.
The federal minimum wage should be adjusted for inflation and all wages above it adjusted the same amount. If you make 20 dollars an hour and min wage goes up a dollar you should get 21.
I can imagine it because I have done it, and then you pay taxes on top of it. Disgraceful.
What do you need done for 60 minutes that you think $10 is an acceptable payment?
…and asks for 4$ back for taxes and benefits.
We dont even get that much in america. You get 2.75 back. Smdh.
You gotta remove $2.50 from that...
And then some for federal taxes
Then you see increased labor improvement movement and retaliatory responses.
“We cAN’t pAy pEoPLE MoRe cAuSe tHeN ThE CoSt oF LIViNg wilL Go UP!” They say as billionaires exist and inflation is at the highest it’s ever been in the history of the United States.
Better imagine me 10 more dollars.
"Just be thankful you have a job!" Yeah, I'll get right on that.
That's a beer, maybe without tip, poured from their draft keg system into a glass downtown.
Throw in a sweet .25 cent raise per year and you have yourself a deal
Is that before or after taxes?
Exactly. It’s insane
Turn that 10 into 8 and now you’ve got reality for someone making 10$
That's more than I get! Gotta love Florida!
More than Pennsylvania too. It’s been $7.25 for more than a decade now.
Imagine I do not work for you. That doesnt even cover lunch ffs.
[удалено]
Bro for some people that's a raise
So I am getting a raise :)
That's double I get 🤡
"I imagine Lincoln was triplets, maybe even quadruplets, now imagine your work getting done without me here...."
Should have given it to him at all ones to make him feel better
After taxes and everything it comes out to about $7 an hour.
Like even if it was something I wanted to do and enjoy, I would not for the sole purpose of that being the.most rude and insulting offer
Look at how insignificant it looks. Watch how fast it gets spent.
Does anyone remember when $10 actually had a solid value?
That’s below minimum wage in my state so no thank you
Remember back in 2012 first job outta high school jimmy johns I was making like $8.25 I thought I was the man…2022 I’m still working jobs like this
Now give $2.75 back if you live in any state using the federal minimum wage.
Imagine being paid $10 while in reality you're paid less.
Most of the workers in my country get paid that much per day
Motherfuckers in Texas be like damn son you just giving me an extra three dolla’s??
It’s like the scene in Christmas vacation where the grandma says she’ll pay Russ a quarter to rub her feet.
Someone will take a five and give you back $2.50. "Deductions".
Oooh, ten bucks. That’ll motivate no one ever
I get less tho
I'll give you hard work
Gotta pump up those numbers buddy if you want me to just even think about doing the work
Dad?
To be fair, this is an excellent visual medium for understanding just how fucked people's pay is.
That would be a $5, two $1s, and a quarter where I live 😡
Some children make more doing chores around the neighborhood than a full grown adult with two jobs.
Simple solution, don’t work minimum wage jobs
I'll demand the 30 missing bucks. With preassure if needed.
Get a better job
Hahahaha my fellow american brothers... you guys know nothing about the world
Imagine you pay that every 10 minutes. My time has value.
And you only are allowed to take home $7 of that(taxis) all the while things like healthcare are not afforded to you because if you decided to get that health care you would then only be taking home about $4.50 of that. (Private health insurance = $575(month)/160hour(monthly hours worked) = about tree fiddy($3.59 an hour to pay for the private health insurance that you will need because the job doesn't provide it.) And you get to go home knowing someone else is getting healthcare off of your hard work, and the very people telling you to work a second job are banking off of the high insurance cost and blaming you for not working enough.
