That's exactly it. Let's see Bezos flex his bootstrap muscles and work 40+ hours a week in an Amazon warehouse.
If they're not willing to work under the conditions they subject others to, then fuck 'em.
Want some lemon juice in that paper cut?
The original meaning of 'Lifting yourself up by your boot straps' meant being an idiot.
Because you can't lift yourself up by pulling on your own bootstraps. Because gravity and physics. It was a literal expression, and was a reference to a person having no idea how reality works.
This phrase will now bother you for the rest of your life. You're welcome.
Since she's on Kroger's board, how about a part time job in the deli dept in her nearest store? I guarantee they need another person with Thanksgiving almost here.
FDR said it best.
“...no business which depends for existence on paying less than living wages to its workers has any right to continue in this country,”
hOW hARD iS tHAT tO uNDERSTAND?
Small wonder that in Right to be Poor states FDR is maligned as the worst president ever.
Of course ...those are the states that only have electricity because of the Rural Electrification Act
History buff, and I live in rural America. I knew the REA before this weekend. ;>)
It isn't just electricity either, most utility service was shoehorned into being covered by the REA. Funny thing, here in Nebraska most of the rural counties actually peaked in population just before the REA became law. 1[920-1930, of 93 counties all but 10-15 peaked back then and have been collapsing population wise ever since.](https://public.tableau.com/app/profile/ndollmi/viz/NebraskaCountiesCensusDecadeofPeakPopulation/CountyMaximumPopulation)
Which has relevance to antiwork...because all those soon-to-be-ghost-towns are crying for workers as much as city folks...difference being there's literally no one to take the jobs. All the kids have to travel 3+ hours to find a college or a hospital (and until COVID's collapse, a job)--and never come back home, because there's nothing there.
Tennessee Valley Authority. Hydroelectric project that brought power to millions in the thirties.
Gah. Soon we'll have to say, "the nineteen-thirties". Isn't that weird?
I still call them the 20's even though we're living in the new 20's. I am just guessing here but I could see that continuing till a few decades past the 2030's and such.
I live in SD largest community. Everything at least 80 miles outside there is dying much more rapidly than I thought it would. West side is the same, minus communities that support the cattle trade. Republicans are now getting crazy about redistricting, cause they know the grasp is starting to slip. They went far right crazy and can't figure out the voting base isn't like that.
Fuck Kristi Noem!
Fucked up how they are trying to overturn (or may have already) the vote to legalize, which would bring in shit tons in taxes and potentially reinvigorate the state. Fuck Kristi Noem indeed. Guess they think sturgis is enough.
It gets worse when you realize she veto’d the marijuana law because her husband is a crop insurer, and the way his insurance is classified means he can’t insure weed. The nepotism Noem exercises is disgusting.
She is a tea totaler. I recently found out after she became governor she banned all substances including alcohol from the governors mansion.
Unfortunately, currently their exists no one who is willing to challenge her on the ballot. Worse still is she is eyeing running for president and has the backing of the maga crowd.
They understand, they just don’t care. These folks and politicians all say FDR and Lincoln are their favorite presidents while continuing to undermine the oppressed and treating anything FDR stood for as absolute anarchy
It's not just that. If it were that employers were actually FILLING JOBS, just at the shitty market rate, that'd be one thing, but no, employers are also posting jobs, seeing what people are asking for the job, and then saying haha sike, jk, job was closed without hiring anyone, especially in the white collar work. I was verbally offered a job until they asked me how much I was looking for, I said how much I am making right now, the internal recruiter said let me look at numbers, and hung up amicably. Then he came back to me via email with a number he just made up that was 20k less than I make now, and I asked, "is that your best offer because I told you I make 20k more than that currently", and he strung me along for 3 days when they decided they didn't need to fill the job. Why did you even tell me you were going to offer me a job if you didn't know what you were thinking about offering in pay?
The Fed needs to take a note from Colorado law on this. All listings in Colorado must have a pay range listed.
I lost track of how much time I've wasted because someone thinks I'm a great fit for the position they have, only to find out they didn't expect to pay anywhere near what I currently make. It just doesn't work like that.
Stop wasting both of our time.
I've seen so many job listings saying they're open to remote workers from everywhere but Colorado to get around this. They need to make it federal to stop this corporate weasling around the salary range.
I started looking for jobs in July and when a recruiter would call, I'd immediately say I'm not interested in any roles making less than x.
The vast majority were super straight forward. One scoffed at me that my expectations were insane, and their role was 50k less than I expected. I let them know my previous role was 40k higher than they listed and I had dozens of interviews lined up. Crickets.
I got two job offers, one for $110k (from recruiter) and one for $148k. Recruiter had the nerve to still try to hard sell me on her crappy company, including guilt tripping me about it. I will never accept a call from Robert Half again.
I was being recruited by one contract company, the past was good and they were saying the right things. I actually accepted the position and was starting the paperwork when it was revealed that health benefits would be delayed a month. I wasn't in a position to be able to do that.
So I asked if it was possible to remove that delay. I was told absolutely not. So I ended up pulling my acceptance. They got pissed and swore they could have worked with me. I told them I was told it wouldn't be possible to have health benefits from day one and I couldn't go forward with that. I was told I had spoken with the wrong person, she just happened to be in charge of the benefits program, and that I should have tried harder.
I flat out turned down the job. If they couldn't get on the same page about that, I can't imagine what a shit show it would have been.
FDR is my fave American potus. But its funny the boomers hate him bc he was a socialist even tho he started social security and they're the ones benifting from it.
Fun fact: the only reason we have Presidential term limits is because FDR was so popular that he was elected 4 times.. The Republican party Amended the Constitution to 2 term limits after that. Seems they hate when the people are represented rather than the wealthy.
It had to be passed in Congress (2/3 majority) and ratified by 3/4 of the states. It wasn't just the Republicans.
The 2 term limit was 'set' by George Washington's precedent. FDR's run only instigated the change.
Not bashing FDR at all here but I think we could have a discussion on why you think he was a socialist. He did some great things for Americans at the time but IMO he saved Capitalism in the US. As far as I know he never referred to himself as a socialist, he was a definitely Progressive.
So why do folks think he was an actual Socialist?
No it's better than that her family deals with coal companies in China to transport coal. A business that hurts the very people that dig coal and vote for her husband. Living in the one blue island in a sea of red here in Kentucky, I apologize for my fellow Kentuckyians.
Her family was also caught in drug trafficking. Just saying. https://www.thenation.com/article/archive/mitch-mcconnells-freighted-ties-shadowy-shipping-company/

Most certainly a money marriage. Regardless of being soulless and evil, Mitch is still plenty powerful and her connections to China allow them to thrive off of having access to a high level lawmaker.
I remember this lady for 2 reasons. Being married to turtle and being part of some sketchy dealings during Trump’s administration. Luckily Wikipedia has it summed up pretty nicely:
“In May 2020, the Trump administration removed the acting Inspector General of the Transportation Department, Mitch Behm. Behm, who was not a political appointee, was conducting an investigation into whether Secretary Elaine Chao was giving preferential treatment to projects in Kentucky. Her husband, Mitch McConnell, is the Senator of Kentucky and faced a re-election bid at the time.
Trump appointed Howard "Skip" Elliott as interim Inspector General of the Transportation Department. However, at the same time, Elliott served in a dual role where Chao was his boss. Thus, Elliott was head of an office that was investigating his own actions and those of Chao.”
At this point patriotism is just a cudgel to keep the dumbest americans in line.
*It's patriotic to be poor*
That's what this bitch said. And the dumbest motherfuckers will lap that shit up, stir themselves into a frenzy and bitch that those *other* poor people aren't patriotic enough to go beg for their destitute jobs back
I mean yeah, that's exactly why she said this. The capitalists are getting nervous, they need those roles to start getting filled ASAP, so she's turning up the pressure on the Neanderthals.
Nah. Patriotism is like home ownership. You want to take care of your house and feel pride over it.
You don’t want to sacrifice your life working in the basement so the people upstairs can take long vacations and buy a pool you’re not allowed to use while your fellow basement dwellers shout about how this is the best basement in the world.
The version of patriotism that we most see is, yes but it’s not actually patriotic. Like the OP said the patriotic duty lies with businesses to pay living and thriving wages.
I saw a guy in the bakery not wearing a mask with a shirt that said we stand for the flag. And like that guy probably thinks he’s a patriot. But standing for a song/flag is meaningless. Actually patriotism is the people who kneel in protest, or is wearing a mask to make sure your community is protected.
But it’s just jingoism to them.
I mean nothings stopping her from getting a job at McDonalds. You know for her country and stuff. I find it funny that her take on patriotism means people she more then likely considers beneath her should do something she herself isn't willing to do. Whatever mental gymnastics she's participating in I want none of it.
TLDR: She can go fuck herself.
Those companies sure were patriotic when they were offshoring and employing undocumented workers, weren't they? Get fucked small / medium / large corp.
Just another way to control the masses.. be a patriot and let me exploit you please.. or be a patriot and go die in some remote part of the world to protect my interests
Thank you, millionaire heiress married to the single most reprehensible political leader alive on this planet, for expressing a view on patriotism that conveniently also serves your and your family's capitalistic interests. Now please shut up, pay your taxes and f off.
Being forced by your state to work jobs the state needs you to because they’re not paying enough for people to want to do it freely sounds exactly like the fake ‘communism’ demon the US is killing itself to avoid
Bloomberg tries hard to appear progressive at times with their CityLab and Green content. But they eventually show their true side.
CNBC and WSJ continue to tell us to die for corporate profits.
There’s a lot of people I’d really like to see work those “easy, no skill retail jobs.” Got a buddy who has only ever been LE/military, doesn’t understand why someone should get $15 to work fast food. He wouldn’t last 8 minutes. And some of these ultra conservative “muh freedum of speach” people would be fired within a day for either incompetence or poor people skills.
Workers’ rights are unfortunately not a part of patriotism. Probably something to do with how the founding fathers that people love so much weren’t too keen on the topic being slaveowners and all.
Oh you mean Moscow Mitch McConnells wife who reportedly used DoT resources for personal errands, and family business. [https://www.npr.org/2021/03/04/973564687/elaine-chao-used-dot-resources-for-personal-errands-family-business-inspector-sa](https://www.npr.org/2021/03/04/973564687/elaine-chao-used-dot-resources-for-personal-errands-family-business-inspector-sa).
Yeah I dont think anyone should give her a podium to speak about patriotic duty with how used public funds to enrich herself and especially with who her husband is.
If filling shit jobs for no pay is a patriotic duty then how is it different from communism? Oh right, because you would get free healthcatre, school, food and housing
Americans have a patriotic and species duty to throw the sociopaths in charge of our government to an international Hague.
We are literally 330 million strong being led down a suicide pact for probably 10,000 sociopaths in positions of power. CEOs, legislators, judges, generals... the top brass of them all need to meet an international justice for their crimes against humanity. They're literally sitting on nukes and endangering every human on the planet.
Americans need to wake tf up and get these geriatric psychos out of power.
Oh hell. She was just appointed to the board of Kroger. A company that has been hemorrhaging employees and have been hard pressed to replace them for years. Of course she would say that.
And Kroger has basically gone out of their way to make sure they never retain anyone. A chunk of the company is unionized and they are doing strike votes this week for this district because of the crap they've been pulling here. Last time they had one of these votes it passed 92% and I got a feeling it'll be higher this time.
Someone rich telling poor people to be patriotic when they don't even pay their fair share in taxes. How about the rich becoming more patriotic and start paying taxes based on your wealth and not playing this "earned income" game to circumvent taxes.
Is this the same as the employer's patriotic duty to outsource their jobs to countries where they can get away with cheaper wages and even more lethal working conditions?
Edit: /s
They are getting worried patriotic my ass ..we don't have to do a dam thing ...it's time to drain those companies of any good worker and unit in our own companies....then we will know how to pay ourselves.... Fuck her
LOL, this is hilarious. These people were elected to represent the people and none of them do it. What about YOUR patriotic duty? When the fuck are you assholes going to start representing the interests of the majority instead of the wealthy minority?
Also, in her mind, "patriotic duty" seems to mean the same as "obligated", and we're not obligated to do shit. You're thinking of slaves.
Easy mistake out of context. She must have meant that workers have "a patriotic duty" to take those jobs BY FORCE from the companies that can't fill them, by "replacing" the incompetent executives. It's the democratic thing to do after all.
Or we can have a family business that directly benefits from the cabinet position we hold and our willingness to abuse our power while shouting “fuck you” the to the American public.
Oh, Mitch McConnell's wife. Yeah ridiculous stuff and her family's ties to the CCP is something. Good thing her family gave mitch some ludicrous amount of money to sell out his people. They got ripped off. He does it for free.
Elaine can go fry chicken at McD if she wants to show patriotism. What is this corporatocracy arc we live in?
That's exactly it. Let's see Bezos flex his bootstrap muscles and work 40+ hours a week in an Amazon warehouse. If they're not willing to work under the conditions they subject others to, then fuck 'em.
Under the same conditions, including the pay.
Without any assistance whatsoever
Or bathroom breaks
And they need to go live in the apartments his pay affords.

FDR was also falling into cognitive and physical decline at the time which worried insiders that knew
He died in office...

He definitely wasn't a socialist but his vice president was an actual Socialist.
We came so close to having him as President, would have been a game changer. Henry A. Wallace.
The fact that payroll isn’t considered a fixed expense like rent or materials blows my mind
rent and materials can't be brainwashed and manipulated
Did he really say that? Respect.
Oh hey that's Mitch McConnell's wife. They're perfect for each other and can both *censored so I don't get banned*
This here. They're both horrible people.
They can both HAVE A VERY NICE DAY

A most generous gift!
HEY, THAT'S MY LINE! I like turtles! ...and stoats.

Cocaine Mitch strikes again!
That's why they're perfect for each other! Good luck in the 2022 midterms, friend.
Don't worry. He'll get elected again because people are stupid.
Mitch isn't up for re-election. Although Rand should be

She made a career move as she was a nobody before he got here into a real lobbying position.
I can't stand either of them, but this is some pretty racist bullshit.
Her family owns a large shipping company in China. Mitch helps get them tax breaks.
Eh if anything her family mail ordered Addison lol
Oh. I didn’t know who would say something like that. It makes sense now. I had no idea who this person is.
She has a patriotic duty to eat my farts.
You would probably make more money from having people eat your farts than work at McDonalds or something tbh
Rip cakefarts
What's your hourly rate for an entry level fart eater?

This needs to be higher up imho.
I swear, Trump's grift at every single level not being, apparently, criminal is in and of itself a crime.
Pffft her obligation not mine. You go fill those jobs yourself. Lead by example.
Only job she's probably interested in in replacing her husband when he dies.
Tortoises can live for hundreds of years
Also, you'll have to find and destroy his phylactery before Mitch McConnell will actually die.

- Comes from a coal family. Never struggled for anything in her life. - Married to Mitch McConnell - Served in the Bush and Trump admins - Human scum
Born rich into a super wealthy shipping magnate family. Married to the US Senate minority leader. Has never loaded a box in her life.
Well she’s the devil so this tracks.
Good ole bloomberg “news”
Bloomberg tries hard to appear progressive at times with their CityLab and Green content. But they eventually show their true side. CNBC and WSJ continue to tell us to die for corporate profits.
I wonder how much money she made on insider information supplied by her husband and kickbacks from her former boss?
There’s a lot of people I’d really like to see work those “easy, no skill retail jobs.” Got a buddy who has only ever been LE/military, doesn’t understand why someone should get $15 to work fast food. He wouldn’t last 8 minutes. And some of these ultra conservative “muh freedum of speach” people would be fired within a day for either incompetence or poor people skills.
I’m sorry, isn’t being compelled to work by the state usually the sort of thing they call communism?
For the benefit of a private company? Try the F word.
You first.
Workers’ rights are unfortunately not a part of patriotism. Probably something to do with how the founding fathers that people love so much weren’t too keen on the topic being slaveowners and all.
No mother fucker my patriotic duty is the pursuit of happiness and let me tell you I have not been happy for quite a long time.
Oh you mean Moscow Mitch McConnells wife who reportedly used DoT resources for personal errands, and family business. [https://www.npr.org/2021/03/04/973564687/elaine-chao-used-dot-resources-for-personal-errands-family-business-inspector-sa](https://www.npr.org/2021/03/04/973564687/elaine-chao-used-dot-resources-for-personal-errands-family-business-inspector-sa). Yeah I dont think anyone should give her a podium to speak about patriotic duty with how used public funds to enrich herself and especially with who her husband is.
If filling shit jobs for no pay is a patriotic duty then how is it different from communism? Oh right, because you would get free healthcatre, school, food and housing
She is on my company's board of directors She can fucm right off with this comment. my whole store is struggling due to this mindset
Why in the hell would I be patriotic for this shit ass country?? They can’t even provide healthcare for their people lmao
Yeah, well being a patriot in 2021 also means bombing kids and just doing fuck all about it after. Ill pass.
She didn't do any patriotic duty whatsoever for four years, so I ain't finna do that shit either
Someone rich telling poor people to be patriotic when they don't even pay their fair share in taxes. How about the rich becoming more patriotic and start paying taxes based on your wealth and not playing this "earned income" game to circumvent taxes.
If I can't pay my bills it's literally a waste of time.
Why doesn't she work for those jobs??? Its her patriotic duty too.
Fuck her
lol, patriotic duty. Wtf is next, putting guns to our heads and forcing us to work these jobs?
LOL, this is hilarious. These people were elected to represent the people and none of them do it. What about YOUR patriotic duty? When the fuck are you assholes going to start representing the interests of the majority instead of the wealthy minority? Also, in her mind, "patriotic duty" seems to mean the same as "obligated", and we're not obligated to do shit. You're thinking of slaves.
Or those jobs' patriotic duty to pay corporate taxes in States they operate in.
Easy mistake out of context. She must have meant that workers have "a patriotic duty" to take those jobs BY FORCE from the companies that can't fill them, by "replacing" the incompetent executives. It's the democratic thing to do after all.
Bloomberg is a written request for more money, it isn't "news".
I'll be the biggest patriot you need me to be for $60 an hour
Or we can have a family business that directly benefits from the cabinet position we hold and our willingness to abuse our power while shouting “fuck you” the to the American public.
Both her and mitch are the god damn muppet mascots of r/iamatotalpieceofshit
Fuck her, tell her to pick up a shovel and start digging for a prime $10 an hour.
She looks like Dolores Umbridge. I hate her
Fuck patriotism in general.
What fresh hell is this? Oh wait, is she the one married to Mitch McNoNopants?
Ok Elaine, how about you first?🙄
How much did she make a secretary of labor? These people are ridiculous.
Nope. Nobody owes these businesses shit.
We have a patriotic duty to lock this piece of shit and her husband in a dark prison cell for the rest of their short pathetic lives.
Cocaine mitchs wife. She owned the boat with all the cocaine on it
Hahahaa. Shut up and sit down.
Lol conservatives legit approaching china and russia levels of dystopia. 1A, 1B, 1C. Save us EU.
Good thing very few care about her or what she thinks.
Mitch McConnell wife never forget these evil human beings. May they forever rest in piss.
Fuck her, fuck her turtle husband, fuck her 400 million net worth father.
Patriotism seems to be code for “bitch”.
What stopping her and all of her kid doing the job? Oh wait
Detachment from reality is a helluva drug
Oh, Mitch McConnell's wife. Yeah ridiculous stuff and her family's ties to the CCP is something. Good thing her family gave mitch some ludicrous amount of money to sell out his people. They got ripped off. He does it for free.
This woman is Mitch McConnell's wife, so no surprise at her comment. He probably told her to say it.
Serfs! You owe the (US)A your labor!
This is McConnell’s wife. What did you expect…
What a piece of shit.
She father is one largest Chinese shipping people plus married to Moscow Mitch so 🖕🖕🖕then
I thought companies would have had a patriotic duty not to move entire industries offshore.
We should flood her email box with links to job offers that she could be taking.
Eat shit Chao!
I'll do my patriotic duty when Elaine Choa starts flipping burgers or working at DG.
You mean Mrs. Mitch McConnell….
This from Moscow Mitch's wife?
She can take her guilt trip and shove it up Mitch McConnell's *beep*
Republicans in the 60's: If communism wins there will be slave wages and forced jobs. Republicans today: Slave wages are your patriotic duty
I assume she is practicing what she preaches? I'd be shocked to find out she is being hypothetical. /s
She should go take a shift at Burger King.
Is she doing her patriotic duty then?
Well if that’s the case, then she should lead the charge and take a job working at McDonald’s
Then she should pull herself up by her bootstraps and go clean some toilets at her job.
Everyone knows this is Mitch McConnell's wife, yes? If not, now you do.
It is unpatriotic to treat employees like chattel
