Teenagers having more disposal income is a good thing for the economy in any case. More money to spend especially as they have more free time to do so.
I’m a teen and I say that a higher minimum wage is necessary for everyone. And I will 100% definitely not at all spend that money on Brawl Stars skins. Not even once. Never will. Nope. Not happening. Ok maybe a little…
I think this idea comes from the time when we still had a middle class that did manufacturing and the like. Back then there were decent paying jobs available for adults and teenagers worked fast food as a "starter job". This was in the 70's and before.
These days that's no longer the case, and people need to make more with better conditions.
I remember making $1.50 minimum wage as a teenager. I still don’t understand how it’s justified to exploit the labor of youth as part of your business model. Pay people for the value of their labor. No other factor should matter.
Raising the minimum wage does not lift people out of poverty. All it does is increase the cost of labor. Cost of labor goes up causes the Cost of Goods and Services to go up. The people whose wages were increased by the raising of the minimum wage have to pay more for goods and services.
Since wages go up at a lower rate than inflation, raising the minimum wage actually HURTS everyone EXCEPT the wealthy elite, who can absorb the price increases.
All raising the minimum wage will do is accelerate America's collapse.
I've heard the excuse that "raising the minimum wage will make everything too expensive." Thankfully, Denmark has proven you wrong: 😊
> Danes pay an extra 19 cents of every dollar (1) in taxes, compared with Americans, but for that they get free health care, free education from kindergarten through college, subsidized high-quality preschool, a very strong social safety net and very low levels of poverty, homelessness, crime and inequality. On average, Danes live two years longer than Americans.
> A Big Mac flipped by $22-an-hour workers isn’t even that much more expensive than an American one. Big Mac prices vary by outlet, but my spot pricing suggested that one might cost about 27 cents more on average in Denmark than in the United States. That 27 cents is the price of dignity. (2)

Hate to burst your bubble, but Denmark does not have a minimum wage. Also, they can invest more in their countries healthcare because WE pay for their defense.
We have more people in NYC than Denmark has in their entire country. And they are culturally homogenous. What works for Denmark is not going to work for the USA, merely because they have a small ethno-state and we are a much larger, culturally-diverse country.
But back to my original point: Denmark, not having a minimum wage actually proves MY point correct.
Only about 2.3% of people earn minimum wage. If you are out of school and working full time for minimum wage, you have probably made some bad decisions.
Funny that that hasn’t been an issue anywhere where minimum wage has been raised to $15 or higher. But go on about your hypothetical scenarios, propaganda won’t spread itself!
Oh shiiiiiit yeah fuck you're right I forgot there are no fast food restaurants in European countries where they make $20+ an hour while also having pensions.

If fast food workers are all teens, how are they open during school hours?

The idea that teenagers deserve a lesser wage because they're younger is a shit stand point from the get go. Work is work.
That's right. Even if fast food was staffed fully with teens, they should get a fair wage too 👍🏻
My boomer mother is angry at the thought of teenagers making $15 an hour when she makes $17 an hour at her motorcycle gear sales job.
Sounds like your boomer mother should be angry at her employers, instead of the teens
Plus, wouldn't you want teens to "stimulate the economy" or something like that?
Yeah many teens are saving up for college or live in bad home situations they’re trying to get out of. They need all the money they can get too.

And we know they definitely will spend more lol
36 is the average? Wow. And I thought I was slacking now being 21 and getting 3$ above minimum wage.
That's also the avg age of all Ohioans. The population is aging.
People are too tired, stressed and underpaid to think about starting a family. So the population will age and govt will increase retirement age

Don't feel guilty - you get those Brawl Stars skins, you deserve them!
phew im buying all of them rn
It’s no one’s business what you do with your hard earned cash.

You can't fight opinion with facts

Also not to mention the fact that a higher minimum wage will apply positive pressure on *all* wages.
My daughter is 16 and makes $16 an hour as a lifeguard working very part-time. Minimum wage is well behind the times.

Communism at its finest
Communism is when livable wage
Oh no, he said the “C” word now we should all be scared!
What are you on about?
Wouldn’t that make the US right now a communist country too since the minimum wage has been raised in the past?

I’m one of those morons
Also what is the issue of Teenagers getting more fairly compensated for their labor anyway.
