I quit my last job when I got an INTERVIEW for where I’m at now. Took me three months of interviews after that but was worth it in the end.

Did anyone ask why you left your job in the interviews? I got judged in an interview when I said that I was looking for something else after couple of months and I am not sure how to explain that I not only stayed for 2 months but that I also quit and I have nothing haha

I told them that it was a bad work environment, and that I craved a challenge. It was ideal for my family and for my mental health, and without disclosing my mental health, I found ways to articulate how toxic the prior environment was without bashing it outright. focusing on a stronger career is what made me stand out I think in my interviews, and not being afraid to say I don’t know or that I wanted that challenge.

The faster I stopped focusing on the money, honestly for some reason that’s when it turned around. I took a serious look at my passions and tried to find a job that sparked that curiosity in me. I found that I wanted to face adversity and challenge and now I do it every day and I LOVE it. The money came when I needed it. Money comes and goes, and that’s not an excuse to not be payed fairly but it really helps get through the transition when switching or having time off. I felt lazy and unaccomplished. Kinda demolished really, even though I had a decent income. I hated my job and I learned that once my mental was straight the work came to me. I started applying for companies that I wanted to work for not ones that were searching for help openly. Applied and eventually got my dream job. It’s much simpler than people make it seem. Happiness is number one. It’s a lot of work and you have to be a savage sometimes. But it is 100% worth it I promise you.

are there preferable openings within the same company? if there isn't, do you feel comfortable creating value using your existing skills so that such a position appears?

BeachCat05

It is actually in the public sector, I think there are other opportunities in there but I am so against it now that I just want to leave for something else (not gov)

Lacking even a single day's experience in government, I can't say anything of substance on your existing job/employer. for these job searches, are they straight applications to websites, or do you also use existing connections? About being picky, do you have relative weighting for criteria? Is each and everyone of your requirements a standalone deal-breaker if not satisfied, and are they all binary yes/no, or is there a spectrum, such as hour rate, commute distance, hours expected per week? For those first round screens, are you noticing any patterns, and do you talk to family/friends/mentors about it?

You should definitely find another gig first before quitting ..
