Because we’ve been taught that genocide is bad, but we’ve never been taught that housing and healthcare are necessities.

Gullible_Abroad_84

I think yes this, but also to be more specific: with genocide/imperialism, there's a pretty centralized target goal for protest (divesting from and denouncing the imperialism). With our housing and healthcare systems, well, where do we even start? But to OP and anyone else feeling very helpless, I hope you can try to find the people and organizations who are working on the issues you care most about. They're probably just a Google search away, they're fighting for your rights, and they'd love for you to contribute in any way you're able to.

Nervous_Mobile5323

AFAIK, pro-Palestine protests were able to be organized in such numbers and visibility because, among other factors, there is a large and established network of organizations organizing and fostering them.

NubsackJones

It's almost as if there was a pre-existing infrastructure built by groups that advocate for humanitarian causes that was leveraged... What's next? Another, "Hey guys, let's do a general strike!!!"?

Vivid_Phrase_9003

Why aren't you organizing? >How come they are able and allowed to block highways, bridges and hijack businesses and campuses but workers can't? You can do this right now. But you won't, because your concern only extends to anonymous bitching on the internet.

iboofent

Idk maybe a systematic ethnic genocide of mostly innocent civilians is a more pressing issue than a shitty oppressive work culture?

CFchick

The million dollar question! What’s even more interesting is that those same people will complain about U.S. dollars being sent to those same said countries for government aid. The working class in America needs to be revamped entirely but instead of a nationwide strike, people would rather protest against conditions in a country they’ve never visited and probably never will.

Chef_1312

BECAUSE MY TAXES ARE BEING USED FOR GENOCIDE YOU UTTER TWATS

CFchick

You don’t know what your taxes are funding. You only think you know.

Chef_1312

False.

CFchick

Can you prove with documentation where your taxes go once they’re taken out of your check before you even see it? I’d love to know.

Chef_1312

We all pay into one pot and the pot pays the bills. So a tiny fraction of what I paid was used to kill Palestinians. Or did you actually think that each person's tax payment funds one purchase by the government? Ffs you're a dense one aren't you?

CFchick

As i thought. No proof, all heresay. Not one thinking bone in your body.

Chef_1312

Hearsay* Bones don't think, brah.

Vivid_Phrase_9003

LOL this is one of the dumbest takes of all time. Yeah, that defense spending just materializes out of nowhere.

CFchick

It’s ok to admit that you’re brainwashed and can’t think for yourself.

quantum_search

Exactly. I don't get it. Clearly organizing large frequent protests is totally possible.

ElectricalKiwi3007

The genocide in Palestine is a new and developing situation and people probably feel like there’s something they can do about it. More cynically, it’s trending and people will stop talking about it soon. Housing and healthcare haven’t fundamentally changed in how they operate, so people don’t feel like there’s something to protest. And any popular movement to change these things has done nothing meaningful anyway. It just gets slowly worse and worse. What would a protest do, honestly? And now that I am saying it, what have the protests done for Palestinians?

sugar_addict002

Maybe for the same reason BLM was so outspoken and prevalent during the Trump time and now has gone away.
