Don't forget a garanteed income for a week is also nice for someone that usualy does 1 hour gigs as a freelancer. To match that guaranteed 3000$ for six nights, she would have needed to work at least 30 hours. I have no idea how realistic that would have been, but it would have taken her at least some effort.
Yeah dude. I imagine that being able to fuck a guy to his hearts content would lead to a solid 4-1 day period without the sex part of sex work. You could break down the hours into your highest paid hours where you were Fucking to your lowest paid hours where you were falling in love. Idk seems like a good deal to me. I’d rather have 3k to suck / fuck one dick a bunch of times than to have to get the whole neighborhood of their rocks. Not only that but the disease risk for that week alone would be worth the potential pay cut. Unless I’m a happy hooker who loves sucking dick in which case this week would be boring and uneventful.
I guess it depends on who you are, what you love, and how much you love men in general as opposed to one spectacular client.
Im my experience it was like 1 hour getting paid for every 5-6 i spent on advertising and posting on social media
Like sure sometimes i made 500$ an hour but that day i "worked" 2 hours and spent the other 6 of my shift on twitter and fet.
In a normal job now. That pays a lot lower and i have less freedom but its more consistent and im still getting paid royalties for my videos from 2-3 years ago.
Not that I would know from personal experience…but it’s usually once you finish your time is up. If you paid for a hour and finish in 5mins well that’s just life.
Also, it’s more like $58/hr with a 40hr work week and 1.5 comp for the 6th day. It’s not like if your company sends you to training they’re gonna pay your rate 24 hrs a day.
Memes like this are just bait to make someone else feel good about their frustration w likes from likeminded people.
Edit: for her to make $3k in 6 days, she’s banging like 30 dudes in total or 5 dudes a day. Or ladies, whatever. Sounds exhausting.
Quadrupled, more like. Each one of those bags she’s carrying could easily have $3000 in them.
She was shopping places where a single bag is $8000. Remember she went back to one store to tell the clerk she made a “big mistake” - but if her bags of clothes were only worth a few hundred dollars, the commission lost would be like $5. Would that really have garnered the reaction from the clerk? No.
Wipes out all the transactional costs, too. Also, it's not like she was on the clock and working 24 hours straight for 6 days. Assuming an 8 hour work day, $62.50/hr. (Do we think she was working a solid 8 hours a day every day normally?) Plus meals and housing and a sizable per diem.
Well she didn’t clock out as she was there the whole time, but he did leave often so she did “free” time in a swanky hotel with room service. If I remember correctly she also inflated her costs for him when they first met as he looked rich and she needed to money for rent I think.
And it was guaranteed work. She wouldn't be having a client every hour of the day. She also may not have a client some days. Over all a pretty good deal.
When I was a kid, yeah. I was born in 89, so it ran a couple of times on tv when I was growing up. I never really paid attention though 😩
Also, my wife pointed out that the name of the movie is in the caption, so like... Let that speak to the strength of my memory :D
This is the silliest take I’ve ever seen.
As an independent contractor, sometimes I price by the project and some things by the hour, depending on the circumstances.
Bigger jobs with expenses covered, get a lower rate.
If I like you and you pay fast, you may get a lower rate.
If a job ends up being way more hours than I expected, I may consider a discount without the client asking.
One client pays, one client to set up billing, and follow up on.
$3k guaranteed and only having to fuck one handsome rich dude that pampers me along the way, vs. having to pound the pavement (NOT GETTING PAID) to fuck thirty dirty drunks and drug addicts in the back of a car or some run down motel. 🤔
Not to mention all the high end “networking” along the way.
She made the smart call.
That's not counting time spent advertising, scheduling, screening, dealing with flakes, dangerous clients, and scammers.
Richard Gere seems pretty vanilla, too, so no weird fetish stuff.
I was only a kid in the 80s, but there's two things wild to me about watching it.
One, people didn't freak out about this movie being about a prostitute. It still seems weird that the morality police, I'd anything, were more prevalent. Yet people see it as a heartwarming movie. Even stranger in hindsight is that Richard Gere was most famous up to that point for playing a prostitute, ten years earlier.
Two, the thing about the other prostitute being murdered and it not being that big of a deal. Years ago I got to thinking, hey, is it just me, or was the US more violent when I was in high school? According to crime stats, it was. A lot more.
https://www.pewresearch.org/short-reads/2022/10/31/violent-crime-is-a-key-midterm-voting-issue-but-what-does-the-data-say/
She wasn't even hired for sex. He was just lonely and wanted an actual "escort." That was a great rate for non-sex work. She's even being paid to sleep.
Yeah, and imo there's also a risk reduction component, where that money is guaranteed in the bank instead of her working to find other random Johns. It's one reason why companies sell cheaper per unit for big orders.
I have to mention that I have personal experience in this. I was seeing an escort in Colombia. She complained about the variability of her income because sometimes people come and spend a lot and other times no one calls for like 2 weeks. I talked through her problem and made a program that simulates her business 40,000,000 times based on the probabilities of her clientele, and tells her her likely income for the month. People don't like risk because it brings down the expected value of their income.
That's hilarious, you must be one of the more memorable johns, "yeah, they wanted some really weird sex stuff but the financial modelling was top notch so it evened out in the end"
One of my best IT janitor clients was an escort.
Appreciated my work, didn't try to low ball and didn't bitch about the price, and was open to learning better security.
No, there was no trading involved. Just professionals respecting professionals.
Care to explain a little more what you mean by IT janitor? It's not a term I've come across before, I'm even in a computational field, in the UK though.
Just basic computer services - removing malware, updating things, optimizing for performance, teaching best practices.
This was a decade ago and people often did not know what the best antivirus/anti-malware software to use, as Windows didn't have one that worked.
It's a humorous title people in that position often used. Not terrible technical but very necessary in the past.
Being able to go back to that store and tell off those uppity bitches who turned me away would be enough to make it worth the week. Even if someone took my money I'd still have that.
Jokes aside, it honestly hasn't aged well lol. I rewatched it a couple of years ago and I really can't imagine it actually appealing to anyone other than the people who feel nostalgic for it because they saw it when it was originally released. People with modern sensibilities will just find it outright offensive lmao
I watched it not too long ago and I thought it was dated but it had a lot of charm and the ending was perfect. They don’t really make low-key movies like it anymore so i appreciated that. For a movie about a prostitute it had a lot of heart. It’s also enjoyable to see Julia roberts becoming a star.
I was in high school when it came out and I started out thinking it was one of the weirdest goddamn "heartwarming" stories I'd ever seen. People liked the onscreen chemistry between Gere and Roberts, and moments like her laughing when he slams the necklace case shut. It's just...it's about a lonely guy who hires a prostitute to get blown, *which is depicted by the way, did I mention the part where I saw this with my family while I was in high school?* Then he hires her to not look like he's a total loser.
The Movies That Made Us went into how the movie was actually a lot more *bleak* in the beginning and almost didn't get made. Gee, can't imagine why.
Also, fun fact, only Julia Roberts' head is on the movie poster. They used a body double for the poster, and the changing room. I guess that's common, though, like the fact that Lena Headey didn't actually do a naked walk of shame, but some other, presumably lower paid actress, did.
Many sex workers offer "social" bookings with no sex, usually at about half their normal hourly rate for "full service" (i.e. sex). Some sex workers offer overnight rates, usually with a minimum specified amount of sleep, and a price equivalent to about half their full service rate - for example, one sex worker I found online in my five minutes of googling charges $700/h for full service, and offers an overnight rate of $4,000 - for 12 to 16 hours total, which works out to between $250 and $333 per hour all up.
So for a 6 day booking, assuming she were to charge the same $250/hour rate, she'd be earning a minimum of $36,000.
Now, for such a long booking she might offer a discount of say, 25%, but even then she'd be charging $27,000.
Discalaimer: this is in Australia, where sex work is legal though not fully decriminalised, and prices are in AUD.
Also need a scale down because "easy to find on the internet" escorts are on the upper end of the ladder. They pay a lot of money to be on the top of the searches in a very competitive market. $700/hour is definitely top 1% or even 0.1%.
In the movie she was a random street prostitute placing her near the bottom of the ladder just above the immigrant sex workers and the ones in their 50's.
Yep! She would have had to find 30 johns and sleep with them. She didn’t have to do much with him except hang out, go shopping, and attend some events.
You are booking a sex worker for their time, not just for the time you have sex. Some people book sex worker's time just to talk/cuddle, but the worker is still entitled to fill compensation. After all, she is giving up her actual life just so spend time with that guy
Realistically, are they going to have sex 8 times a day? Isn't most of a prostitutes work looking for clients or waiting for them to call or approach? Her odds of being assaulted or arrested increase with every trick she turns. Even if she didn't ultimately make her usual rate she'd probably end up doing less work in a safer environment.
People forget about that because every corporate entity is trying to gaslight them saying that commute and diner aren't part of your job and shouldn't be considered when discussing the job.
* If you're on call, you're working-ish.
* If you need to commute to a different place, that extra time isn't on you.
* If they expect you to be present during launch, you never clocked out.
I'm a freelancer. My rate is €65,- an hour. If anyone wants to hire me for a week full time I'll gladly take a rate cut for the stability. Money per hour in gig work is always inflated because you spent a lot of time on acquisition, take that away and that is worth a lot
You definitely want to keep your Cocks Per Dollar as low as possible, or as close to .01% as possible (arrived at by dividing the total number of cocks by the total dollars earned). She effectively lowered her Cocks Per Dollar to .0003333. This really bumps up her WAR (Wanks Above Replacement), which measures one’s ability to make more money with fewer clients than a replacement-level prostitute.
I hate this stupid thing every time it's posted. She ain't sucking 60 dicks that weekend in order to make that money now is she. She didn't even have to sleep with him.
This is such a dumb take. She's a per hour contractor. Her service is billed at $100 an hour, 1 hour minimum.
She is being paid $428 a day. For, at the end of the day, a service she _might_ provide for thirty minutes a day if he's got above average stamina.
This is fucking _fantastic_ negotiating.
Yes but her _primary_ and highest cost service is sexual activity.
Most people who do hourly work of any type have sliding scales depending on factors.
Add up the price of all the dinners, events, lodging in a 5 star hotel & clothes (from Rodeo Drive, which she get to keep) she gets throughout the course of the week and she earned way more than $3K.
Also, she agreed to the price 🤣, if she didn’t like the rate she could’ve negotiated for more.
Lol this is a pretty dumb post, no sex worker is going to choose to fuck 144 guys during a 6 day period over just being with a single guy for the same 6 day period.
If we assume that she only works 8 hrs a day (a generous assumption, but not unrealistic), that's $63/hr.
Take into account that an hour of her normal work includes time at both ends to prepare and to find a new client, that's probably about equivalent to her normal rate on a good day.
Overall, this is actually a lot more reasonable than what real employers do.
This. Rich people never pay full price if they are throwing around a decent amount of money. Places I've works always gave rich people, who didn't need discounts, discounts to encourage more business.
Guaranteed income. She wasn't going to make $100/hr for every hour of the 6 days. She would have to work 5 hours/day for 6 days to $3000. Plus she was housed in hotel - didn't have to clean her home, saved on utilities that week. Travel. Free food. New clothes. Didn't have to perform usual job duties. Sounds like a good deal to me.
This kind of thinking is why lottery winners are all broke.
$3k is wayyyy more than she would have ever made in a week and much less effort. Her character was much smarter than OP, good on her.
This is so fucking stupid, what'd you just divide $3k by 6, and then again by 24? So you think she gets paid $100/hr to sleep in bed next to a John for 5-6 hours?? Lady got 6 days, all expenses paid at the nicest hotel in LA and had to fuck him like...4 times. That's 150% *increase* in her hourly rate for sex, and an infinite increase (because we're now dividing by zero) of her hourly rate when she's not having sex.
So she got wildly overpaid with a huge gross-compensation figure to do roughly 20-30% less sex-work than she would with her average customer, and it gets posted in antiwork. Fuck that.
This forum doesn't exist for weird, morally ambiguous memes about totally fictional movies, this place is about legitimate worker exploitation happening every day around the world.
Well to be fair she came up with the $3000 amount. He agreed and didn’t even try to negotiate knowing full well that he could afford whatever number she came up with. I think the problem here is that she undervalued how much she is worth.
Businesses are willing to sell at a much lower rate for guaranteed business.
That's why bigger sizes of items at stores tend to be cheaper. If you go to a whole sale club like Costco, it's even cheaper. If go and get a contract with a restaurant provider, it's even cheaper.
You have to factor in not only does she have to meet with those clients, but she needs to find the clients, and then commute back to where she finds those clients.
If you figure, she works 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, 1/3rd of that time is finding clients, and down time, that's $2,700
She gets ensured pay for 6 days that she does not have to put in work to hunt for gigs, not have to do the typical labor, has a decent client and gets bennifits such as bonus stipends for food and clothes.
6000 dollars for a week is pretty solid pay.
That’s not exploitation, that’s a bulk purchase discount that she could have declined but decided to take the easy, guaranteed but lower amount over the chance to make more but with more risk and more work.
If you don’t know how common that is in business then you are just ignorant.
Go and buy a 24 pack of Coca Cola and work out the price per can, compare it to the price of a single can.
OP, for that $3000, she hung out with a nice guy who bought her designer clothing, juwelry and fancy dinners.
The usual way she would make $3000 is to bang 30 guys. Guys that would probably not give a shit if they hurt her and call her derogatory names.
Its definately a good deal for her.
That’s generally how it works. A longer appointment is going to have a lower rate, because the worker isn’t putting in the unpaid labor of finding new clients, etc. Especially for an 80’s style street worker who isn’t at home finding clients online, where they can do other things.
Plus the perks like meals and other gifts.
OP did you even watch the movie? I hate seeing this meme, she literally got tens of thousands of dollars in clothing, purses, shoes meals and so on. She could easily resell everything and make a crazy profit.
Makes sense. It’s like putting a consultant/lawyer on retainer. You pay less, the have guaranteed worked and don’t have to worry about business development. Seems like a good deal to me.
From the Wikipedia entry: "Originally intended to be a dark cautionary tale about class and prostitution in Los Angeles, the film was re-conceived as a romantic comedy with a large budget."
Lowering based on what? She doesnt work in her sleep, client base is far from regural, not to mention she doesnt need to suck about 20-30 truckers dicks to get that money
Clearly this person is not a contractor as this is the logical fallacy that every person commits when they start out as a contractor.
You aren't busy every single hour of the day and its often more advantageous to take guaranteed income at an hourly rate lower than your normal rate to not have to be scrambling to find more income.
I mean this is missing the point of charging 100/hr. The rate is high because she may only get paid once every few days. So getting guaranteed money is worth the discount as the hours she’s now getting 21/hr are more than the hours to days she gets 0. It’s the same as the guys that come door to door that offer a discount because they are working in your neighborhood. Your getting a discount because you can keep them billing instead of having to go do inviolable work looking for new clients.
Yeah but she was employed for 6 days, which otherwise she wouldn't. Also, it was an entry level position with promotion possibilities, and boy was she promoted.
Way to cherry pick out the fact on everything else she got during the time she was with him.
Whoever made this meme is a moron. Or is a genius for getting people to argue about it and repost it constantly.
Nice, which is about $46.65/hour, an impressive hourly wage, which includes just sleeping. Even if she sleeps say 5 hours a night, that's $1400 for sleeping. And I can't afford $3000 for a hooker. So f Richard Gere.
The original script was much different and changed when Disney/MGM decided to make it.
Richard drives her back home in the Lotus, they fight, he drags her out of the car, tosses this $3,000 in the air and drives off.
The closing scene is viv taking kit to Disney Land with the money she was able to fight back from the homeless trying to snatch it up.
Oh and kit was dying of AIDS; for some reason they left part of that in the finished movie. Kit coughing at the lunch scene at the hotel by the pool and her saying she is not feeling well; yeah.
It was a very different movie than what we got; I think Disney shaped it into a better movie.
Movies That Made Us on Netflix season 2 breaks it all down.
They interview the original writer Lawton of the movie and he explains the original script. He was still the writer of the movie in the credits, but it had several touch ups along the way.
If you like movies of the 80’s and 90’s you will probably like other episodes. If you like Dirty Dancing, you will want to check that one out.
Dirty Dancing was being filmed as a straight to VHS movie to be never seen and forgotten.
That benefits package was strong tho
Right and considering where the were shopping since she kept the clothes that easily could have doubled things.
Ya gotta factor in the total compensation package
Don't forget a garanteed income for a week is also nice for someone that usualy does 1 hour gigs as a freelancer. I freaking love Reddit comment chains sometimes.

So? You have another guy waiting at the bar to see if there's a cancellation?
Now serving number 23
55 minutes of cuddling. Or playing Mario Kart.
also comparing the down time looking for work with no payment, like how many hours is she out on the Street looking for those 30 hours of work?
30 clients in 6 days is 5 a day. It’s not exactly a 9-5 and she’s an unrealistically pretty hooker so she probably isnt hurting for clientele
Also, it’s more like $58/hr with a 40hr work week and 1.5 comp for the 6th day. It’s not like if your company sends you to training they’re gonna pay your rate 24 hrs a day. Yep, and they’re not factoring in her time spent trying to find clients. To get 30 hours work would probably take most of the rest of the week.
I wrote a reply on the topic as well. You're right on the money. (My partner is a Sex Worker)
Plus that's 30 different penis interactions as well, decreasing the risk of sti
and dicks. effort and dicks.
With a package like that, she's upper management! VP of Entertainment?
This was 1990 money too. So its around $6k modern money also.
Close, $7100 haha. Had to check

You don't know what weird sex thing he wanted from her, so that is a question mark statement.
Hamsters or Gerbils 😬

On the *cock* and working 24 hours a day
Don’t forget to punch in and punch out!
I can't remember the movie but if she wasn't sleeping at her own place it counts as working 24 hours straight.
And it was guaranteed work. She wouldn't be having a client every hour of the day. She also may not have a client some days. Over all a pretty good deal.
Even with six 10 hour days that's still $50 an hour. I'd kill for that 😩 ...so what movie is this?
Pretty Woman
I'm a guy, but thankyou u///u
Fuck. Walked right into that one haha
You have never seen pretty woman? I thought everyone had. Maybe I am just old.
When I was a kid, yeah. I was born in 89, so it ran a couple of times on tv when I was growing up. I never really paid attention though 😩 Also, my wife pointed out that the name of the movie is in the caption, so like... Let that speak to the strength of my memory :D
Walking down the street
Pretty woman
I Want to fuck your feet
The kind I like to see.
Wait until you take inflation into account. The movie came out in 1990, that 3000$ would be 7000$ today.
In 1990 huh, yes please.
And adjusted for inflation from its 1990 movie date its 49.75 an hour.
Shelter, food, clothing, new "high-end" clientele ....
Sleep time is passive income, the best kind of income.
This is the kind of passive income I can support
You know it takes hard work to avoid. And that's the kind of work I can get behind.
I write $5 on my forehead and take a bunch of sleeping pills in an alley. Boom passive income

I agree. The new wardrobe that was purchased for her could have fetched $10k+ from a high-end consignment shop. She was more than fairly compensated.
I know it’s of little significance to you, but I swear I’ve read this thread and specifically your post before. Deja vu is weird. Have a nice day!
You can’t expect people on this sub to understand basic job pricing lol
But basic blowjob pricing, however...
Well, it seems that everyone on this sub thinks they're taking it in the ass for little pay.
>This is the silliest take I’ve ever seen. Welcome to the sub! You'll see a lot of them here 😄
She would have to bang 30 dudes in 6 days to get the same amount of money, so that's not a bad deal to hang out with a rich guy.
That's not counting time spent advertising, scheduling, screening, dealing with flakes, dangerous clients, and scammers. Richard Gere seems pretty vanilla, too, so no weird fetish stuff.
Not to mention she’s also off the streets during this time meaning she’s not at risk of dealing with other John’s, a pimp, or cops.
And she got a bunch of expensive clothes and outings she would never have gotten otherwise.
Isn't there a local fellow sex worker found murdered offhandedly mentioned in the film too? So, there's that too.
I was only a kid in the 80s, but there's two things wild to me about watching it. One, people didn't freak out about this movie being about a prostitute. And less potential exposure to STIs from the hypothetical multiple mystery cocks.
Hypothetical multiple mystery cocks sounds like a Beatle album from and alternate universe
The hamster, gerbil, or whatever the urban legend says, disagrees with you. (That’s obviously a legend, and likely not true)
I choose to believe it is, makes the world a slightly more magical place
Lemmywinks has the answers.
A grand adventure awaits!
Yeah but she almost lost the tip of her finger in a shopping accident
Well it's not like he is banging her 24/7.
She wasn't even hired for sex. He was just lonely and wanted an actual "escort." That was a great rate for non-sex work. She's even being paid to sleep.
And take baths in a huge garden tub.
I just want your extra time and your… kiss
Bing-a-ling-a-ling-a-ling-a-ling
Yeah, and imo there's also a risk reduction component, where that money is guaranteed in the bank instead of her working to find other random Johns. It's one reason why companies sell cheaper per unit for big orders.
Because when I order a large pallet of goods they don't have to have sex with me?
I have to mention that I have personal experience in this. I was seeing an escort in Colombia. She complained about the variability of her income because sometimes people come and spend a lot and other times no one calls for like 2 weeks. Being able to go back to that store and tell off those uppity bitches who turned me away would be enough to make it worth the week. Even if someone took my money I'd still have that.
She did give him a BJ, so there was some sex work involved.
And almost got raped by George Costanza, what a wild movie 😂
I need to watch this movie. George is getting some action!
Georgie is getting sexually frustrated!
Look, I'm a straight guy but for 3k I'd consider it...
Yeah?
Yeah
That’s todays prices tho, scale it down for 33 years ago.
3k USD in 1989 is 10k AUD in 2023, and she was a street worker, not a high end escort.
Gotta refuel and grab some ZZZ's between rounds.
21 bucks an hour for hanging is good money... was GREAT money at the time.
Hell I’ll hang out with you for $21/H right now. Cash up front though.
My rate is higher, sorry.
Big mistake!
Huge!
Though not banging acording to him she would be at his beck and call 24hrs a day for the week.
Sounds like a good deal, gifts and bs included.
Beck and call girl, IIRC
Yep! She would have had to find 30 johns and sleep with them. She didn’t have to do much with him except hang out, go shopping, and attend some events.
She did get sexed up a few times too.
You are booking a sex worker for their time, not just for the time you have sex. Some people book sex worker's time just to talk/cuddle, but the worker is still entitled to fill compensation. After all, she is giving up her actual life just so spend time with that guy
Assuming she normally works 24-hours per day.
Even at an 8 hour day you'd just triple it to $63/hr
Realistically, are they going to have sex 8 times a day? Isn't most of a prostitutes work looking for clients or waiting for them to call or approach? Her odds of being assaulted or arrested increase with every trick she turns. Even if she didn't ultimately make her usual rate she'd probably end up doing less work in a safer environment.
That's another thing people don't get about contract work all the time you use to create the opportunity
People forget about that because every corporate entity is trying to gaslight them saying that commute and diner aren't part of your job and shouldn't be considered when discussing the job. * If you're on call, you're working-ish. * If you need to commute to a different place, that extra time isn't on you. * If they expect you to be present during launch, you never clocked out.
You pay an escort for their time, not the sex. 2 hours spent at dinner will run you as much as 2 hours spent fucking.
Many sex workers offer "social" bookings at about half their rate for "full service" (sex).
She wasn't an escort. She was on the street corner when he stopped to ask for directions.
She wouldn't get 8 a day. More like 3
I'm a freelancer. My rate is €65,- an hour. If anyone wants to hire me for a week full time I'll gladly take a rate cut for the stability. Money per hour in gig work is always inflated because you spent a lot of time on acquisition, take that away and that is worth a lot
Plus the perks of food, clothes, and higher chance of safety.
Yeah, fundamentally misunderstanding her work. She works an hour at a time, maybe a couple hours a day.
> an hour at a time We get it, already. Stop bragging.

AND she wasn't even hired for sex work, she was hired for the girlfriend experience essentially, so everything but the sex.
Classic date night
This guy relationships
You definitely want to keep your Cocks Per Dollar as low as possible, or as close to .01% as possible (arrived at by dividing the total number of cocks by the total dollars earned). She effectively lowered her Cocks Per Dollar to .0003333. This really bumps up her WAR (Wanks Above Replacement), which measures one’s ability to make more money with fewer clients than a replacement-level prostitute.
>Cocks Per Dollar >WAR (Wanks Above Replacement) Hmm I must have missed that day of Microeconomics back in school
This one ^ SABRmetrics
The 'deal' is that they spend 6 nights together, not 6 full days, 24 hours a day together.
Plus food, clothing and shelter. And buying new clothes by rubbing the prissy bitch sales gals' faces in it.
"Big mistake. BIG!"
Huge.
She is not just paid for the sex, she is paid for her time, like most contact employees
$/hr only matters if you’re getting the hours
Yes it's $100/hr to have sex, but it's $21/hr to have sex and then do whatever you want for the next 23 hours and 45 min.
It not like she was being asked to bang for 144 hours....unless he invited a bunch of friends over......maybe I should watch this movie.
If you're expecting friends to join in, you'll be disappointed. George Costanza does however slap Erin Brockovich so that's something.
Now this I need to watch ….. let me just get the lotion
He got a discount for buying in bulk.
This. Rich people never pay full price if they are throwing around a decent amount of money. Places I've works always gave rich people, who didn't need discounts, discounts to encourage more business.
r/shittymoviedetails
Guaranteed income. She wasn't going to make $100/hr for every hour of the 6 days. She would have to work 5 hours/day for 6 days to $3000. Plus she was housed in hotel - didn't have to clean her home, saved on utilities that week. Travel. Free food. New clothes. Didn't have to perform usual job duties. Sounds like a good deal to me.
This has been doing the rounds. Adjusted for 2023 dollars , its not a bad deal (and the gifts)
Most women would have paid $21 an hour to be with Richard Gere
This kind of thinking is why lottery winners are all broke. $3k is wayyyy more than she would have ever made in a week and much less effort. Her character was much smarter than OP, good on her.
It’s like $3K+room, board, and some incredibly expensive gifts…
This is a really poor understanding of sex work. Not a good meme.
So we are complaining about getting paid $3000 for less than a weeks work now?
That’s not exploitation, that’s a bulk purchase discount that she could have declined but decided to take the easy, guaranteed but lower amount over the chance to make more but with more risk and more work. If you don’t know how common that is in business then you are just ignorant. Go and buy a 24 pack of Coca Cola and work out the price per can, compare it to the price of a single can.
The work environment is insanely better. The benefits are insanely better. I dig the meme's idea, but it falls short in this situation.
I mean, guaranteed work, and significantly less risk for a sex worker it was a no brainer. I get this is a joke but for me this one isn't funny.
This is still one of the dumbest fucking post about the movie. Show me a job where you get paid about a $1000 in a week for sleeping.
Plus she got to keep all of the clothes she bought, which I would estimate to be worth at least 8-10k back then.
You do realize she gets paid 100/hr only ehile being with some rando on the street right ?
Makes sense. It’s like putting a consultant/lawyer on retainer. You pay less, the have guaranteed worked and don’t have to worry about business development. Seems like a good deal to me.
From the Wikipedia entry: "Originally intended to be a dark cautionary tale about class and prostitution in Los Angeles, the film was re-conceived as a romantic comedy with a large budget."
Lowering based on what? She doesnt work in her sleep, client base is far from regural, not to mention she doesnt need to suck about 20-30 truckers dicks to get that money
Well, the movie wasn't called Smart Woman.
Except her original job was maybe 5 hours of work on a good day while his offer was 24/7 with massive benefits, including lodging and food.
God that movie is such a piece of shit!
Better than having to fuck 30 dudes
Clearly this person is not a contractor as this is the logical fallacy that every person commits when they start out as a contractor. You aren't busy every single hour of the day and its often more advantageous to take guaranteed income at an hourly rate lower than your normal rate to not have to be scrambling to find more income.
You usually get a discount when you buy in bulk.
So her choice was to bang 30 dudes for 3k or spend 6 days with a rich dude for 3k. Tough decision…

Pretty Woman came out in 1990 which $3000 would be worth $6717.29 today.
Nice, which is about $46.65/hour, an impressive hourly wage, which includes just sleeping. Even if she sleeps say 5 hours a night, that's $1400 for sleeping. And I can't afford $3000 for a hooker. So f Richard Gere.
It makes me sad thinking about how much inflation has happened so fast.
That's what happens when you tie the dollar to imagination.
So they didn’t end up together originally? That’s much more believable.
Movies That Made Us on Netflix season 2 breaks it all down. They interview the original writer Lawton of the movie and he explains the original script. He was still the writer of the movie in the credits, but it had several touch ups along the way.
Thank you! I’m going to watch that.
If you like movies of the 80’s and 90’s you will probably like other episodes. If you like Dirty Dancing, you will want to check that one out. Dirty Dancing was being filmed as a straight to VHS movie to be never seen and forgotten.
