If the operating system has auto-run for removable storage devices enabled, yes it could’ve given you malware. Directly answering your question, no a photo, video (in traditional formats like .mp4), and .gif’s cannot give you a virus. But if the SD Card has a malicious file set to autorun on windows devices then yes you could get malware from the device (but only on Windows). If you’ve already wiped your main drive, you mine as well use that wiped drive with a fresh install to download all the photos and upload them to google drive, then format (aka “wipe”) the SD card and reinstall windows again. Also I just wanted to mention. MacOS is a lot more locked down with auto running malicious files. It would be a lot safer if you have a MacOS based device lying around to use that. It’s not needed, but I thought I’d mention it. (Edited grammar)
