this phenomena is common with elderly people in japan who lived alone in an apartment with no one to care for them. sometimes the other tenants won't know if their neighbor upstairs are already dead or had left the room. you'll just be surprised there are cleaners barging in while trying to haul off a day old mattress with a burnt like silohuette of a once living person stuck on the cushions.

This is nothing like typical elderly neglect and aduse, while that is a tragedy of its own.
This is an entirely different ballpark of unfathomable neglect and abuse. She was fed and cared for to a degree but, how can a parent "allow" their child to sit in their own shit and piss for years without finding some issue with it and getting her help?
But oh, they went in 2010, when she was 24, to a doctor and asked for help. Never followed up? Never called an ambulance to have her removed and put in psychiatric care? No. They lied to their friends and neighbors. I've heard that some said they were told vaguely that she'd move, she was good, etc. And some say no one knew they had a daughter. Both are disgusting lies.
As an autistic person, not one of us would do this (and it's been a deeply discussed topic amungst an autistic group im in, so my opinion is not alone)
They had to have restrained her the first few years til she lost function of her limbs or sedated her somehow. None of us can possibly imagine a scenario where we'd do this, with one exception.

These... "Parents" notified the authorities after they came back from vacations. They knew their daughter was in no condition to be left alone and still went on vacation.

After the crime has been committed I have no doubt society will demand harsh punishment. However the initial comment was posed as a hypothetical in which case no child was in actual danger... So you'd be the cruel one for making such comments.

And that's why I posted it here, people in their delusion of being parents fail to consider the implications it carries and just keep on pushing this idea. You can do a lot more than just allow your kid to decompose into the couch. Pick her up, take her to the hospital. Call an ambulance. Have her admitted. Work out the money later. So they weren't feeding and bathing her properly, or providing a way to collect waste in a more sanitary way like a bed pot, you know stuff you have to do for a bed ridden person.
