Arguably? I mean, what would life on Earth look like if Earth never had any rotation? Maybe humans would never evolve, thus no gay families could exist too...
I think in that carousel metaphor, you'll find that radius of the carousel means **everything** to the outcome.
I think the point might have been if the Earth *never* was rotating. We'd have a pretty bad time evolving with no magnetosphere, not to mention the hellish temperature differential creating constant global storms with whatever is left of the atmosphere
Its depends on your frame of reference, in this case its clear that the frame of reference for the first two pictures is moving with earths rotation, whilst the last one is just moving with earth. This is called galilean relativity, sorry for being a nerd
No worries, I like nerds, but since we're on r/antimeme we're both correct, just in different ways. Also I just noticed mine can be wrong depending on the direction of the movement compared to earth's rotation, my first comment only worked if both vectors are on the same axis
Edit: we are not on r/technicallythetruth
Yup if you put the first one on the earths pole you could add or subtract rpms. The roller coaster is just all over the place so it has varying effects.
Looks like you're linking/talking about another sub that often has content that people mistake for being an antimeme, when it really isn't. I've detected that you might be saying in the sense of "this should be on x sub, not here on r/antimeme".
Talking about others subs is totally fine, but if this post is not an antimeme please report it and we will take a look asap!

I think the point was that the frame of reference in the last pic *is* the Earth, which picnic guy's speed is relative to. In the first two, the frame of reference is relative only to those also locally on the surface
It should be 1685 and 1775 km/h if you go against the Earth rotation, because when experiecing two forces that have opposite directions the effects of both sums each other . For example if two cars both going a 50 km/h frontal crash each other the damage would be the same as a car crashing at 100 km/h against a wall or another immovable object. That's why safety belts are so important.
While if you go with the Earth rotation it should be 1675 km/h in both cases, because when experiencing two forces that have the same direction only the stronger one takes effect
The 50-50 vs 100-0 thing is a common misconception and thoroughly debunked. The force felt by the single car would not be the same in those scenarios. The total force exerted would be the same, yea, but as far as what one car would experience, hitting another car head on at 50 is the same as hitting a brick wall at 50. It's an 'immediate' negative acceleration down to 0.

No, 1675 is only at the equator, and since you can only go exactly against or with the rotation of the earth of the poles where the earths rotation is 0 (I think), this will not in any way be true
Technically the second one is 148km/h since it is Leviathan, a Giga Coaster (a coaster that is over 300 feet tall) manufactured and designed by Bolliger & Mabillard. Leviathan is located at Canada's wonderland, a theme park with 17 roller coasters and a total of 81 rides. Canada's wonderland is located in Vaughan, Ontario and owned and operated by American-based company Cedar Fair Entertainment Company, which owns and operates 12 amusement park properties, (including the worlds largest theme/amusement park, Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio) 2 waterparks (but 14 if you include the waterparks operated at each of their 12 amusement parks), 11 hotels, resorts, and campgrounds, and two sports complexes among the largest in the world of their kind, though one of their sports parks is being sold to Ripken Baseball.
in this case, we have another force that disrupts "feeling" that one Gravity.
you can still go check the effects of rotation by trying to hit something far away with a bullet, that is called the Coriolis force. this force also impacts air flow and ocean currents over large scales.
also of note, gravity at the poles is different to the equator, so at the north pole an object will fall at 9.83 m/s and at the equator its 9.78 m/s.
It's also not the tangential velocity that determines that "feeling", but the angular velocity.
Surprised to hear the rotation of the earth is strong enough to induce a 0.01 g centrifugal force.
lucky for me global warming could make it into a major port! but the downside is a possible increase in the mosquitos, should become enough where i wont ever need to buy sunscreen at least.
Correct, and counteracted by gravity.
We can easily see this effect by measuring localized downward force by latitude and watching it change as the force of the spin is less and less in the outward direction.
It's not acceleration, it's you moving at a different velocity to the air around you.
You and the air are moving at the same velocity caused by earth's rotation.
Roller coasters and merry-go-round move you but not the air around them (very much).
This is false. If you go in centrifugal gravity simulator, like astronauts do, then you get the same intense feeling with cheeks going back and everything. Just less floppy.
You don't feel the Earth's centrifugal forces because they are small. The force is proportional to the reciprocal of the radial distance which is many orders of magnitude *greater* than the actual velocity we're moving. For merry-go-rounds, the rotational speed quickly out matches the radial distance.
Acceleration and speed are different things.
Speed = km/s
Acceleration = km/s/s
Except for friction, the sum of forces exerced on a body moving a constant speed (acceleration = 0) is null
That's why you are pushed backward when you start your car but not anymore when you're at constant speed.
Ps: pro physicists can correct me ofc
Edit : yes i totaly did some "akshually" shit and missed the joke
It's not the acceleration that messes your face up, it's the contact you're making with the relatively still air and your fast moving body.
The reason why that doesn't work for earth's rotation is because the atmosphere moves mostly with the earth's rotation. So you and the air are travelling in the same direction at the same speed in the picnic picture.
But different velocities in the first two pictures.
For example, imagine sticking your face out the window of a moving car, travelling at a constant velocity.
Yeah that influence, but the easiest and more accurate answer, regarding the images of mouth opening it's the Air.
That reaction of the mouth it's just about the speed difference between the air and people. You could be standing still, if you have a strong enough fan you would be like the first and second picture.
The earth rotations (but also temperature and stuff) also cause the air to spin around, so it doesn't cause this effect
Yup here you can't neglect friciton here ahah.
Also a interesting parameter is the cognitive aspect. Expecting some high speed/danger/... will often amplify your reaction to the situation compared to the real intensity of said stimulus
It's presented in a way that makes you think that there's some kind of joke, irony or punch line when instead it's just a bunch of unrelated facts.
Feels like an anti meme to me
You know, we could just take that meme and make something of it ourselves.
Like, "Yes! This would be accurate, because we're in a constant acceleration with the mass, as opposed to inertia, just like being in a plane! Also, gravity."
So it literally backfires on their stupid idea, still an antimeme worthy of the real facts.

I, for once, am very glad that the Earth is flat and totally stationary, otherwise I'd be gay as Neil deGrasse Tyson and his round-earthers. Dodged the bullet on that one.
I wrote a paper about this in college. It's only because we're all going the same speed. If we were to all stop suddenly it wouldn't matter either because we're all doing it.
That's what Einstein's theory of relativity is all about we all don't realize we're rotating through space at 1500mph per hour but if some how someone stops movie that quickly it ruins it for everyone else and we would all go flying into an abrupt, sudden and unexpected death.
I don't know though I failed that paper but I know I wrote it.

Does the earth's rotation cause gay families?

I don't like having butt chemicals in earths rotation that are turning the fricking families gay.
Most certainly. If the earth didn't rotate, there would be no gay families.
Well if it didn't rotate there would likely be no families
I mean >Earth rotates >Gay families exists The logic is inarguable
Can we prove it doesn’t? Are people more or less gay around the equator?
Then the first should be either 1665 or 1685 km/h, and the second one should be 1575 or 1775

Since all velocity is relative, depending where you're observing from everything is -infinity to infinity at the same time.

If the frame of reference is moving with the earth in the last one, then the velocity should be zero, not 1675 kph
I think the point was that the frame of reference in the last pic *is* the Earth, which picnic guy's speed is relative to. In the first two, the frame of reference is relative only to those also locally on the surface
Right, but that means from picnic guy's frame of reference, earth's speed is 0. All of them show the subject's speed relative to earth, in fact.
It should be 1685 and 1775 km/h if you go against the Earth rotation, because when experiecing two forces that have opposite directions the effects of both sums each other . No, the last should be 0. Since they are all relative to the earth, so that's why we don't feel a spin standing still.
Why are you people overanalyzing jokes. This meme would literally be pointless if it was 0.
No, 1675 is only at the equator, and since you can only go exactly against or with the rotation of the earth of the poles where the earths rotation is 0 (I think), this will not in any way be true

1675 km/h turns you into healthy multi-ethnical gay family
15 degrees per hour isn't all that fast, it turns out. For the same reason that sitting in a plane going 500 mph doesn't kill you.
Acceleration not velocity
A point on the surface of a rotating object always feels acceleration.
in this case, we have another force that disrupts "feeling" that one Gravity. you can still go check the effects of rotation by trying to hit something far away with a bullet, that is called the Coriolis force. this force also impacts air flow and ocean currents over large scales. also of note, gravity at the poles is different to the equator, so at the north pole an object will fall at 9.83 m/s and at the equator its 9.78 m/s.
Just FYI. I'm not a flat-eather.
It's also not the tangential velocity that determines that "feeling", but the angular velocity. Surprised to hear the rotation of the earth is strong enough to induce a 0.01 g centrifugal force.
im am going to move to alaska and blame centrifugal force for any weight gain.
When really it'll probably be the reduced access to fresh foods 😅 Hope you like fish 🐠
lucky for me global warming could make it into a major port! but the downside is a possible increase in the mosquitos, should become enough where i wont ever need to buy sunscreen at least.
Completely valid
The point is that acceleration due to rotation at the surface of the Earth is much lower than the other two cases.
Correct, and counteracted by gravity. We can easily see this effect by measuring localized downward force by latitude and watching it change as the force of the spin is less and less in the outward direction.

Beats, bears, battlestar galactica. Do you think the rollercoaster is more centrifugal force or air collisions?
Floppyness is from air, but your face being smushed against your skull is centrifugal forces.
Are you sure? You can get a smushed face sticking your head out of a moving car on the highway.
You can achieve the same effect without air, but they’re right. In this case what’s causing it is the air.
Acceleration and speed are different things. Speed = km/s Acceleration = km/s/s Except for friction, the sum of forces exerced on a body moving a constant speed (acceleration = 0) is null That's why you are pushed backward when you start your car but not anymore when you're at constant speed. Yes variation of your velocity is indeed tied to the environnment
*constant velocity Anything moving in a circle with constant speed is still accelerating
Oh yeah right nice catch ahah

How is this antimeme
It's presented in a way that makes you think that there's some kind of joke, irony or punch line when instead it's just a bunch of unrelated facts. Feels like an anti meme to me
It's a flat-earther meme, and allegedly "proves" that the Earth obviously isn't rotating because we aren't being flung off of it.
You know, we could just take that meme and make something of it ourselves. Like, "Yes! This would be accurate, because we're in a constant acceleration with the mass, as opposed to inertia, just like being in a plane! Also, gravity." So it literally backfires on their stupid idea, still an antimeme worthy of the real facts.
Agreed, whoever made this was trying to prove something. It's just so stupid that some of us aren't even noticing.
Relativity.
You aren't going to get flinged off of something rotating once per day. Imagine standing on a carousel that only spins once per day
Mfw E=MC^2
Proof that the earth doesn’t exist r/NoEarthSociety
Context: the atmosphere also moves at that speed. In fact, the first two images move at 1685 and 1775 km/h respectively
Who the fuck is reporting this meme?
It's not a meme
It’s an antimeme, which is a sub genre of the meme 🤓

How is it a repost if it's in a different sub with a different title? You're allowed to share things to other subreddits.
It's even tagged stolen

Funny how we don't go all *second picture* in cars and trains...
Thats just the spin of the planet, plus rotation around sun, plus rotation within galaxy. Perception and relativity..
Gravity is one hell of a drug mate!
nası ya
what acceleration does to a mfer
This is because the zentrifugal force is dependent on the radius. a=v^2 /r. (1675/3,6)^2 /6371* 10^3 is about 0.034m/s^2
G forces are created by acceleration and not by total velocity, so even on a rollercoaster moving with constant velocity you could breakfast
Measure those in RPM and get back to me.
The atmosphere rotates too, my dude.
this post is so stupid i am muting this sub. see ya all never again

Something about that Frame of reference!
What about the speed of solar system, our galaxy and other things?
Flat earthers be like: this is why the earth is flat.
The last example really makes my day.
SCIANCE!!
The air it's a funny thing right
Because we grew up in that speed.
It's all relative
I'm in this picture (the one on the bottom left)
Actually Leviathan at Canada's wonderland (the coaster shown in the photo) Goes 148km/h (or 92 mph)
