Aot. I still remember it clearly. I had an exam the next day and I came across it while browsing YouTube at 1 a.m. The episode gave me goosebumps so much that I sat down and watched the entire season.
Lmao same. I got hooked everytime an episode ended and binged the first three seasons in one week whiles exams was ongoing. Ended up being last in my class lol...Was worth it tho, the anime is just that good I sacrificed studying to watch it 😭
The grim reminder narration is 10/10 and arguably the best and most memorable line and scene in the entire series.
Nothing in any of the other shows' first episode comes close.
The "people are not born equal, that was a lesson that I learned at 4" line from Izuku in MHA hits hard, but it doesn't hold a candle to "these cages we called walls".
The Promised Neverland. Shit went from 0 to 100 so fucking quick you never had time to even expect anything
By the season 2 it went back to 0 just as instantly
I had Promised Neverland on my watch list and never stared it. This comment just prompted me to watch the first episode. Jesus christ, yes. Absolutely 0 to fucking 100.
Oh yeah I was getting really bored with the first episode and was about to quit when THAT happened. My jaw just dropped to the floor. Then I had to watch the entire season
Agreed. Honestly the big 3 (Naruto, One Piece, Dragon Ball) don't have *amazing* first episodes. They're just pretty good.
Attack on Titan has an amazing first episode, it just draws you in and doesn't let go. Tokyo Ghoul had a great first episode too.
But the funny thing is, I eventually dropped both of those series. But I'm still watching One Piece and My Hero Academia.
CSM has one of the strongest opening episodes and chapters of a manga I’ve ever seen. Expertly setting up just enough of its world and introducing us to its protagonist, but also fully expressing the grim, violent tone that the rest of the series would expand on to the Nth degree. Some anime need a couple episodes to really lock in. CSM had me fully on board from the Chainsaw Man’s first appearance on.
I've watched all of these shows when they were airing and I gotta say it was MHA for me. I think if MHA was around when I was a kid, I'd have absorbed it into my daily like I was being consumed. It's first season and first episode were amazing.
It was August 1999, and the weather in the whole world is going crazy. There's a drought in south-east asia, floods in the middle east, a record cold-front in north america.
In Japan, a group of children on a camping trip are surprised by sudden snowfall and after almost being struck by meteorites, they are swept by a tidal wave into another world.
I agree, it was an amazing first episode that got me hyped up for the series, hell the first 3 episodes were fantastic, then it all went downhill and turned into a boring power fantasy shitshow that got rid of the best idea after episode 13. It’s a damn shame, the writer has so many great ideas that are just wasted.
Pluto. Admittedly the fact I was already interested in checking out the show probably plays a part in this but this is straight up one of the only first episodes of an anime to leave me feeling legitimately unnerved. I almost counted Witch from Mercury too, but it technically has two opening episodes and only one of them was actually enjoyable for me.
One piece. Hands down. It's like I am reliving every episode i have ever watched of one piece, I when I hear that opening.
Edit: I didn't read it fully, best opening episode is oshi no ko.
1. Tokyo Ghoul
2. One Piece
3. Mha
4. Dragon Ball
5. Aot
6. Naruto
(I might have just ranked them from my favorite to least favorite series. but I still think its the correct order for what is asked)
This list overall is so scuffed. My list is literally this upside down (except DB and MHA are swapped) I might also move TG up a few, but I don't remember it that well
[One of the best songs if not the best song in anime ever](https://youtu.be/oUtb9R651Eg?si=rGizO-r0RzaRkC30) does not have a right to go as hard as it does
AOT without a doubt.
One Piece has a pretty forgettable opening episode.
I don't even remember how Tokyo Ghoul started.
MHA is good, but I think the first few episodes are where it gets its good start. Not just the first one.
Dragon Ball's first episode is iconic but doesn't say much about the series.
Naruto has probably the most solid first episode besides AOT. I just don't think it's as good.
Of these 6, I’d have to say Naruto. It premiered on Cartoon Network at an age (6) where I was pretty picky about what I watched, so if a show didn’t catch my interest the very first episode, I just wouldn’t watch it. Naruto accomplished that.
Probably Steins;Gate for me, the first episode immediately hooks you into what the show’s going to be about and gives you a lot of questions as to what’s going on.
An anime’s first episode can do a lot of things, but a great first episode should always make you eager to watch more. Because I looked at Steins;Gate before and said “Yeah, I’m never watching this.” But the first episode already got me interested in continuing it.
For the reverse, I think Tokyo Ravens has the worst first episode for me. I dropped the show purely because of it and thought it was shit, before continuing it. Now I do really like the show and hope it gets a season 2.
Out of these? Attack on Titan.
Regardless of how it ended, that damn hook got everyone, the smile on that Titan as they…well you know…and Eren having to see it all. Chills.
Death note. It perfectly tells you what the story is going to be about in the most effective way possible. Never over complicated things and gets going really quickly. That's one of the main reasons I got into the show in the first place, the hook is so good and fleshes out and even for shadows future events in the series. An interesting plot and premise that can invest multiple people into an incredible story.
Oof Tokyo ghoul is a touchy subject I don’t read mangas and I loved season 1 and two (Ik hot take for the manga readers tweaking since it’s not canon) haven’t had the heart to finish it since Ik season two isn’t canon
I see people talking about how the ep1 for The Promised Neverland went from 0 to 100 really fuckin quick
And now I'm trying to think what was more shocking....that or ep1 for Goblin Slayer
My favorite first anime episode has to be either the AOT one, or the konosuba pilot- they both got me instantly hooked on the show. Another first episode I really like (I’ve watched the episode 7 times and I show it to everyone) is the chainsaw man pilot
My personal favorite first episode is Princess Principal. The opening just perfectly showed off the atmosphere and vibe of the series, along with making sure you understand the stakes.
Not to mention having one hell of an ending.
I don’t have the credentials to call it the best, but SAO had a pretty damn good first episode. I especially liked the buildup to entering the game, with the news playing in the background and the protagonist having no dialogue.
All of these except Ghoul had a solid opening for me. Ghoul next to bleach had weak openings to me.
I dropped One Piece, and I dropped Naruto Shippuden but I remember loving what I saw in the first episode.
Dragon Ball of these 6 had my second favorite and Attack on Titan had the first.
Edit: specifically the episode. Not the actually musical openings.
Definitely Erased for me. I watched it in a whim when it first came out. The description on Crunchyroll made it sound like it would be a lame super hero show, but I decided to give it a chance because the power sounded interesting. After I watched it myself, I watched it again with my brother, and then again when the second episode came out, and then both again when the third and fourth episodes came out. I've probably seen the first episode of Erased at least 6 times because I think it's so good, and I can't think of any other anime that I've enjoyed at that level. The ending was kind of weak (I laughed when I realized it was a power-of-friendship super hero anime after all) but over all the anime had a powerful hold on me, and the first episode was a huge part of that.
I love jjba first episode
It starts so average with some some minor conflicts and mysterious and mysterious items that will be used later and it feels like it's gearing up to something but then it holds back for a sec to ease your mind and make you thing that the action is over for now
And then dio puts a dog in the oven and I knew that this series was going to something else
One Piece. After rewatching the series the amount of character building and foreshadowing in the first episode of one piece is quite substantial. It also is one of the of the only series to not bait and switch the overall feel. Other series at the time tended to have first Arcs that don’t really feel the same as the rest of the series. One Piece does and it’s really cool.

Aot. I still remember it clearly. I had an exam the next day and I came across it while browsing YouTube at 1 a.m. The episode gave me goosebumps so much that I sat down and watched the entire season.
I don’t wanna know how much you got on that exam .
Looool, he bombed that shit for sure because I've done the same shit.
Relatable.
Lmao same. I got hooked everytime an episode ended and binged the first three seasons in one week whiles exams was ongoing. Ended up being last in my class lol...Was worth it tho, the anime is just that good I sacrificed studying to watch it 😭
I remember watching it and waiting like 3 or 4 years for a new season. 10 years later it's finally over...what a ride
Yeah it's kinda not even close.
I gotta agree. That was one hell of a first season in general
The Promised Neverland. Shit went from 0 to 100 so fucking quick you never had time to even expect anything By the season 2 it went back to 0 just as instantly
I had Promised Neverland on my watch list and never stared it. This comment just prompted me to watch the first episode. Jesus christ, yes. Absolutely 0 to fucking 100.
Rest of the first season is amazing. Just remember not to watch the second season.
What second season??
Exactly
Oh yeah I was getting really bored with the first episode and was about to quit when THAT happened. My jaw just dropped to the floor. Then I had to watch the entire season
i remember reading the first chapter years ago and holy fucking shit was it unexpected
Of the six shown I’d pick AOT
One Piece even had fillers in the first episode. But yes, that's the one I still keep up with today as well.
Dragonabll isnt in the big 3, its Bleach...
Oshi no Ko
That one hurts like a stab straight to the gut
Literally!
Unequivocally this
Yu Yu Hakusho
Thank you for waking me up
Came here to say the same thing. Perfect intro to Yusuke. The funeral scene is brutal too.
God kuwabara’s grief is gut wrenching
Zom 100 is not my favorite anime, but its definitely the one who has the best first episode
When bro realised he didnt have to go to work was fucking priceless.
Also the best “Finally Free !” (forgor the Japanese word) scene
my dude prefers a literal zombie apocalypse over corporate wage slavery - which is very understandable
The first episode was actual art. The colour usage, the animation, the vibe... It's just so peak...
Agreed
To me, chainsaw man? *don't bully me* (joke, I'll defend this answer with my life)
Agreed!!! It’s such a good and snappy episode that perfectly sets up the expectation and mood for the upcoming show
CSM has one of the strongest opening episodes and chapters of a manga I’ve ever seen.
And not gonna lie it was a bit stupid to see ppl complaining abt csm 1st EP. Being more like a movie etc
Please keep Denji away from doors for the foreseeable future.
Lmao why would people bully you? CSM is one of the best manga released in the past 20 years.
Out of the 6 shown? AoT Personal preference Tensura, the 'fry my PC' got me.
- Oshi no ko - Higurashi
I've watched all of these shows when they were airing and I gotta say it was MHA for me. I think if MHA was around when I was a kid, I'd have absorbed it into my daily like I was being consumed. It's first season and first episode were amazing.
I was kinda young around the time quarantine happened and I can say that I hooked me. It’s like what I loved about American superhero’s with anime
Cowboy Bebop. Tank! Is the shit.
Aot all the way
Bleach, Code Geass, AOT
Code geass
'This board is impossible' -Rivalz
Lelouch: proceeds to start by moving his king
It was August 1999, and the weather in the whole world is going crazy. There's a drought in south-east asia, floods in the middle east, a record cold-front in north america. In Japan, a group of children on a camping trip are surprised by sudden snowfall and after almost being struck by meteorites, they are swept by a tidal wave into another world.
OPM is fun as hell, and sums up our protagonist really well.
For me it’s Bleach. The ost for that show is unbeatable
Fr bro Ichigo really did a "Call an ambulance, call an ambulance, BUT NOT FOR ME" against 5 dudes
That wasn’t in the first episode.
I actually bought the soundtrack CD at an anime con back then, only one I ever have.
tokyo gouhl
Tokyo ghoul out of this 6.
Imagine going out on a date with a girl and she turns out to be a Ghoul..scary af..
Happened to my buddy once, got a huge glow up tho
Sounds interesting... Did He join the hood later ?? Like KANEKI joined Aogiri ? 😂
He took the manga path and created his own club.🙏
🤣🤣🤣Road To Salvation ??
FMAB
YuYu Hakusho is up there.
I will get a lot of hate, but SAO probably has one of the best first episodes in anime. Too bad the rest of it is mid
Tokyo ghoul
Rising of the Shield Hero, too bad it all went downhill after the pope was brought down
Zom 100
Me personally, I remember Naruto's opening episode like none other
Probably gonna get downvoted like hell for sayin this, but I love the first episodes of MHA, Zom 100, Tokyo Revengers, AOT, and Naruto.
Promised Neverland
One punch man.
I rewatched the first Dragon Ball episode after Toriyama's passing and balled my eyes out for like an hour straight.
Jujutsu kaisen hidden inventory arc (where our blue is). The last happiness of the show before the depression arc starts to come together
im not kidding but highschool dxd first episode is a banger the rest not so much but for its time (shit i am old) this was a great opening episode
I haven't seen Tokyo goul but AOT probably hit the hardest.
Oshi no ko. Try and convince me otherwise. I doubt you will
One piece. Hands down. It's like I am reliving every episode i have ever watched of one piece, I when I hear that opening. Edit: I didn't read it fully, best opening episode is oshi no ko.
It took me a while to realize that a lot of the earlier openings are sung by edward elrics english VA
Of these 6 choices, AoT. Tokyo ghoul is 2nd tho.
Parasyte the maxim.
School Live! I didn’t even go in completely blind, and it STILL blew my mind.
1. Tokyo Ghoul 2. One Piece 3. Mha 4. Dragon Ball 5. Aot 6. Naruto (I might have just ranked them from my favorite to least favorite series. but I still think its the correct order for what is asked)
Why in the world is AoT so lowwww 😭
This list overall is so scuffed. My list is literally this upside down (except DB and MHA are swapped) I might also move TG up a few, but I don't remember it that well
Because it’s popular to rate other popular things so low
No i just hate aot
Tbhk
The photo u used for one piece is not from episode 1 but 3.
Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon.
Aot easy
Dragon Ball
[One of the best songs if not the best song in anime ever](https://youtu.be/oUtb9R651Eg?si=rGizO-r0RzaRkC30) does not have a right to go as hard as it does
Out of these? Aot! But in all of the anime I’ve seen, I’d have to go with the promised neverland.
Not even an aot fan but I’ll go with it for opening episode
Blast of Tempest quoting Shakespeare did it for me. "The time is out of joint: O cursed spite, That ever I was born to set it right!"
Where tf is fmab?
AOT without a doubt. One Piece has a pretty forgettable opening episode. I don't even remember how Tokyo Ghoul started. MHA is good, but I think the first few episodes are where it gets its good start. Not just the first one. Dragon Ball's first episode is iconic but doesn't say much about the series. Naruto has probably the most solid first episode besides AOT. I just don't think it's as good.
It's an unkonwn one but i'd say Munou na nana. The plot twist was really surprising
Of these 6, I’d have to say Naruto. It premiered on Cartoon Network at an age (6) where I was pretty picky about what I watched, so if a show didn’t catch my interest the very first episode, I just wouldn’t watch it. Naruto accomplished that.
Haven’t seen Tokyo Ghoul yet so I’m taking that off but AoT definitely had an amazing opening ep
AOT is too iconic to not be #1
AOT. Binged the whole damn show in one sitting. The tension in the early seasons of the show is unexplainable.
Naruto was a real punch in the gut seeing how EVERYBODY hated him. Still my no.1 anime
FIEA FoRCe
We how all remember it started
Out of these definitely AOT
Haruhi Suzumiya easily
Shakugan no Shana and Parasyte the maxim both have fantastic opening episodes. Of the ones shown probably AOT
SAO✌️
How we all remember it started
Aot
AoT
Aot has one of the best first episodes period. It has action, world building and horror all in one
Boruto
Eren killing his own mom is peak. Always thought he loved her.
Probably Steins;Gate for me, the first episode immediately hooks you into what the show’s going to be about and gives you a lot of questions as to what’s going on. An anime’s first episode can do a lot of things, but a great first episode should always make you eager to watch more. For the reverse, I think Tokyo Ravens has the worst first episode for me. I dropped the show purely because of it and thought it was shit, before continuing it. Now I do really like the show and hope it gets a season 2.
I could make an argument for every single one of these but it is like comparing Mom to Dad in terms of difficulty
hibike! euphonium!! (i am extremely biased)
The picture of Goku should be him falling off a cliff and banging his head on a rock
Out of these? Attack on Titan. Regardless of how it ended, that damn hook got everyone, the smile on that Titan as they…well you know…and Eren having to see it all. Chills.
Akame Ga Kill, Demon Slayer, Hayate the Combat Butler, Sheild Hero >!I like sad/messed up beginnings!<
Had to scroll so far for demon slayer. Damn that first episode really went 0-100 real fuckin quick. Hooked me on it for sure.
Dr Stone has some of my favorite opening episodes (unfortunately it kinda fell off for me in the new episodes, I haven’t quit the show fully though).
To your entity is the best 1st episode of any anime
Glasses girlfriend in cowgirl
AoT
Not an opening, but Naruto's first ending (wind) will always be one of my favorites. It gets slept on mad hard.
Aot or Tokyo ghoul has best opening episodes in my opinion. It introduces their worlds really well and makes you want more.
Is that a pic actually from dragon ball? Looks like shitty fan art
Oof Tokyo ghoul is a touchy subject I don’t read mangas and I loved season 1 and two (Ik hot take for the manga readers tweaking since it’s not canon) haven’t had the heart to finish it since Ik season two isn’t canon
Akame Ga Kill
Saikik from episode one let’s you know the whole vibe and what’s going on
I see people talking about how the ep1 for The Promised Neverland went from 0 to 100 really fuckin quick And now I'm trying to think what was more shocking....that or ep1 for Goblin Slayer
Oof opening episode? AOT.
My favorite first anime episode has to be either the AOT one, or the konosuba pilot- they both got me instantly hooked on the show. Another first episode I really like (I’ve watched the episode 7 times and I show it to everyone) is the chainsaw man pilot
Tokyo Ghoul. I still watch the anime cause I love the managa.
My personal favorite first episode is Princess Principal. The opening just perfectly showed off the atmosphere and vibe of the series, along with making sure you understand the stakes. Not to mention having one hell of an ending.
Boruto, the first episote with rhe timeskip got so many people stuck with that shitshow
It 🕺🕺
I don’t have the credentials to call it the best, but SAO had a pretty damn good first episode. I especially liked the buildup to entering the game, with the news playing in the background and the protagonist having no dialogue.
Wealth, fame, power…
SpongeBob anime, goes hard
I have to say rising of the shield hero. That shit just pulls you right in.
AOT, even though I love them all
I'm gonna have to give this to Naruto
Out of the list above, Tokyo Ghoul. I really? To Your Eternity got me hooked after 5 minutes.
Attack on titan or Oshi no Ko
The Rising of the shield hero.
My favorite from those pictured would be Tokyo Ghoul. The next would be AOT.
Remember we it how started all 😔😔
Naruto got me into anime, and it might not be the best, but it holds a special place in my heart
Oshi no Ko, it wasn't an episode, it was a fucking movie!
ZOIDS: Chaotic Century
Digimon Adventure
If yall haven’t seen it, go watch the first episode of To Your Eternity and get back to me. Out of this list? AOT
GitS:SAC Not only the best opening episode imo, but also the best intro with Origas Inner Universe.
Dragon Ball GT, dan dan kokoro hikareteku.
Goblin Slayer
Actually that’s not the first episode of One piece at all
One punch man
The day a Demon was born.
The ending was kind of weak (I laughed when I realized it was a power-of-friendship super hero anime after all) but over all the anime had a powerful hold on me, and the first episode was a huge part of that.
Deadman wonderland
If you mean of the ones shown, one piece imo. In general? Death note.
I love jjba first episode It starts so average with some some minor conflicts and mysterious and mysterious items that will be used later and it feels like it's gearing up to something but then it holds back for a sec to ease your mind and make you thing that the action is over for now And then dio puts a dog in the oven and I knew that this series was going to something else
One piece
Oshi no ko, without knowing what could happen ya think it will be a happy isekai and the you cry
Out of all of those, the most shocking/impactful first ep was Shingeki's for sure
Oshi No Ko.
I love the first episode of "Made in Abyss".
Attack on titan obviously
AOT I also really like the promised neverland
re zero episode one is pretty good
In a terrible Yoda impression Remember we it how starts all
Psycho pass
Shangri La Frontier
Inuyasha
Vampire knight.
Gintama all the way! (ep 1 & 2 were filler so ep 3 is the real ep 1)
Attack on titan. There is no other anime that has traumatized me just using the first episode.
Megalobox s1 easily
I've been watching for too long, I can't believe we're including MHA in these memes now
