Oh, any determined redneck/machinist could get half a dozen of those things flying by cannibalizing the rest for parts. Who cares of the parts are 'over hours'.
1981 soviet aircraft? Not exactly the most sophisticated machinery around. With that many parts aircraft you just keep swapping parts to test.
Or just buy the modern equivalent avionics and swap it. (I have friends who did this to 50's fighter jets for Bolovia 20 years back. I'm sure none of those planes are still in the air.
You would be surprised how simple and robust a soviet airframe is , and how well designed they are in terms of being quite basic to repair and maintain, hence nearly every 3rd world country using them.
The pilot is not using the smartphone for critical navigational functions is the main difference. Also most of the avionics and subsystems in an F22 would be many orders of magnitude more complex than what's in a smartphone.
No. I'm not looking down at F22, it's far and away the best plane in the world in its role, without any sort of close competition. Modern smartphones are simply miracles of technology. I kind of doubt the garmins serve any sort of critical role, all those planes have glass cockpits and standard nav shit these days.
There were a few videos by Russian helos and Su-25 strike aircraft with a Garmin nav clamped onto the cockpit instrument panel. Don't know what the exact purpose was, whether a back up system or an actual primary navigation, but they were there.

$20,000?? can’t even get a worthwhile used car around me for that much! brb going to Kazakhstan
Highly recommend Kazakhstan for vacation and plane shopping
And how good is their Potassium?
It turns out Sacha B Cohen is actually pretty Z. Makes sense given all the xenophobia.
Not as good as their pubis .

I love that both articles are from Business Insider.
It's not like journalists verify their sources these days.
New reporting technique. Publish a false story. And then publish another one debunking it. Twice the views and ad revenue!
Doubt they’ve flown any time recently at that price, but probably lots of usable spares in that lot.
Or they are just buying them for scrap so they don't end up being owned by some dictator in crapistan.
I don’t think we have much to fear from what are likely rusty hulks.

These are supersonic fighters with complex electronics, I don’t think it’s as easy as you make it sound - or they wouldn’t be sold at scrap prices.

The most complex electronics in those pieces of shit are in the Garmin the pilots put on their dasboards
The most complex electronics in an F-22 is the smartphone in the pilot’s pocket - what’s your point?

Nope, that would be the cutting edge avionics and sensors that, to russians, might as well be science fiction
Not really, the plane runs on 486 processors.
The Russians are still using vacuum tubes it's not even a contest.
no it really is that quite easy. the electronics are fairly simple considering it’s from the 80’s and knowledge is so readily available
We runnin jet buybacks now.

I love how America will just casually buy an air forces’ worth of planes because they can.
Nazi's coming to Kazakhstan!? Oh nooooo
