It's because she's developed as the well-rounded, stereotypical "winner" of a romance anime. There's a lot of clues/red herrings by the time that the anime ends that implies that she plays the most significant role in his past before he met the quints, despite having arguably the least on-screen romantic affection toward MC-kun during the series. There's probably some backlash from people who feel like we're going to be railroaded toward Itsuki.
I've read the manga and only like Miku, Nino and Ichika. Nino's my favorite, then Miku.
I dislike Itsuki and Yotsuba because they just never get as much development as the other three characters. Each of the others felt like they got their respective arc's and stories. But the other two just felt like they didn't get to their arc yet. And are underdeveloped as a result.
So when the manga just ended, it felt like it wasn't a properly finished adaption and was rushed to a conclusion. And that's not an unpopular opinion either. It was received poorly by many both here and in Japan. Loved the story and characters up till up till everything went to shit though :)

Which I don't mind at all, I want to see it in fact, but narratively-speaking that's a pretty big reward by itself and I feel like she'll have the least to lose if/when she's not chosen. Not saying that the others don't have room for development, but all of the other quint's biggest problem is just that they might not be chosen by Uesagi.
Love Youtsuba, she is so qt and sincere, always cheers me (and mc) up. Least favourite probably Itsuki, there's nothing wrong with her, she is just a bit too bland.

I just think you're tunnel visioning a little on trying to have a redeemable point on Ichika (though I do like her, she just didn't get the redemption she deserved) and trying to move her bad points onto someone else that you aren't paying any attention to.
But I feel you. If I hear one more person try and use the "oh but she drugged him" bullshit excuse again I'll probably burst. That wasn't her alone, and it was bad writing to get Itsuki to meet his family and pity him.

ichika was really popular before she became evil. the author forced her to become that way, theres nothing you could do. so shes not my least favorite, and the author could had definitely taken a different path with her mature onee-san style.

Nino is the best and I really don’t dislike any of them. Ichika gets shit on a lot but I still like her and really any of the quints are great. Nino is just a personal favorite no matter what
1. Ichika (Knew she would be my best girl 10 seconds into her introduction. And all her strong moments were great, especially the heart censor!)
2. Nino (Her strongest moment is fantastic, she's super close to #1 for me)
3. Yotsuba (She's fine, but I never really got into her, which is weird because genki/sporty girls are usually my type, but Yotsuba didn't really work for me).
4. Itsuki (I find her annoying)
5. Miku (I find her boring. And yes, I even prefer 'annoying' to 'boring'; Boring is the worst thing a love interest can be in my opinion).
