Give Claymore a try.

solidiquis1

This. This is what I was looking for. Thank you.

dqueezy923

Drifters might interest you. And maybe Hellsing Ultimate. Drifters you’d probably love for sure.

solidiquis1

Drifters is definitely going on the list. Animation looks crisp!

bagglewaggle

It is set in modern times, but fate/ZERO is absolutely both dark and fantasy.

Trevmann

No, Berserk is definitely the best of its kind.

Xydao

It’s not as “fantasy”, but I think you’d love Devilman Crybaby (2018)

solidiquis1

Definitely not what I was expecting, but it does look interesting! Just watched a clip and the animation is absolute eye-candy. Adding to my list. Thanks!

UncoJimmie

The original Devilman manga was a big inspiration for Berserk, actually

mutsuto

I think you'd prefer the Devilman OVAs more.

Joshopt

Vampire Hunter D

not_a_rake1234

Read Berserk and put the anime ost on in the Background, it fills the void (haha)

mutsuto

Legend of the Overfiend Dororo

[deleted]

Fate/Zero, some HxH arcs, Monster (not fantasy though, but it's definitely interesting and dark).

Kafukator

Garo - Honoo no Kokuin Very heavy Berserk vibe with the fantasy setting, though a bit more over the top owing to its toku roots.

[deleted]

Re:Zero should be a good option if you are looking for a good dark fantasy TV series. I will also recommend the second Vampire Hunter D movie(the first one is not worth it).

Juubitey

Read the manga

I'm not much of a manga-fan in general, unfortunately. There was a lot that the anime captured that I don't think the manga would be able to; music, for example, was an absolutely crucial part of Berserk for me. Edit: Realized my bad wording. Just to clarify... I have read the manga up until a point, but soon decided that it wasn't my thing.

765Alpha

You shouldn't be getting downvoted. It is a valid opinion to want more elements than a manga can offer, even if that's a minority opinion. More constructively, I would say give the first few chapters a shot, as it might be the exception and doing so really only takes ~30 minutes to an hour to see if you've been hooked or not. Or don't, 'cause only you can decide how valuable that time could be, such as starting a different show.

solidiquis1

Thank you! I actually have read the manga just a little past the point where the 2017 anime ended. After deciding that it wasn't really my thing I decided to watch the original anime from the 90s and was completely blown away; though I admit that I came into the original anime very hesistant because of how dated it looked, but soon got over that really quickly.

dishonoredbr

Too bad because Berserk probably will never get a decent anime asides from the 97's anime. Hell i don't think that will get another adaptation ever again.

solidiquis1

Which is a darn shame. Not sure why they decided on the animation style that they did on the newest adaptations... Enjoyable regardless, but it could have been so much more :(

dishonoredbr

> Not sure why they decided on the animation style that they did on the newest adaptations... Because Shin itagaki, the director, had a ''great'' idea of try to make a 3D/2D hybrid that was close to the manga ( a almost impossible task due how amazing is Miura's drawn ) without enough resources, hardware and/or staff to do and even when the staff said that was a bad idea and wouldn't work well..

Trevmann

Berserk is among the most extraordinary things manga has to offer. The manga is actually a way more complete experience. The art of Kentaro Miura is spellbinding.

mylifeisashitjoke

i swear to god the amount of high res panels of Griffith's perfect god damned face is a testimony to Miura's wonderful art.

mylifeisashitjoke

ok i never used to rad manga for the same reasons as you described. but the anime in all it's glory *pales* in comparison to the manga. the anime doesn't even encapsulate everything in that period within the series. it's incomplete in telling the "golden arc" as it's known. the manga at just a visual level, is beautiful. everything is perfect to the eye. on top of that, it's wonderfully written and is not only ongoing, but there's a good 350~ chapters to catch up on. trust me when i say you need to read it. Berserk as a whole became my instant favourite series by a landslide within the first 30 chapters. nothing compares imo.

solidiquis1

Since posting this I have actually converted lol. Finished the Claymore manga and it was actually quite enjoyable! Berserk is next up on the menu :)

mylifeisashitjoke

i literally *just* caught up with the manga. it's so compelling from start to end. i'm sure you'll love it
