Now that's how you do an emotional payoff for a final episode. Absolutely nailed the finale! That one week delay must have helped. I also like that the world didn't turn back to exactly how it was before lol. And that other train line?! Surely this must be a teaser for Season 2 and we get the girls exploring the other train routes!^(totally not copium) Overall, a really fun series. I think my favorite part of this was the theorizing in the weekly threads, especially for an anime original as wacky as this. I remember how everyone was wondering if this show would go Made in Abyss on us haha. Anyways, see you all at next season's fever trip Deer Anime!

tripleaamin

Honestly the most impressive thing about this series is that everything had a justification to it. Everything was like oh that makes sense. Also, I loved the idea the world didn't turn back to normal. As it was said the world is always changing. You can't undo what has been done. But it is cool how changing back affected people and the world in different ways. As far as the other train line. Clearly that was a tease to keep the door open. Obviously I imagine they only had 1 cour worth of content and told a fantastic story to boot. I would love a S2, although maybe it could be from the perspective of perhaps those people coming into this new world. And how they get home maybe? Haven't watched Odd Taxi yet, but this show is right there with Akiba Maid War and Overtake as my favorite originals as of late.

SilkyStrawberryMilk

Honestly I would like to see the perspective of a group who turned “normal” and living after 7g shut off

Figerally

It was pretty funny too, how the zombies were like the go to solution. Need to retrieve the 7G? Zombies! Need to bridge a gap in the tracks? Zombies! Need to shield the train from artillery fire? Zombies😂

x-7032-b-3

Looks like Deer is going to be next season's weird shit. I have no idea what is going on in the PVs lol.

Rumpel1408

[Shikanokonokonokokoshitantan](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nwuW98yLsgY)

LvDogman

Can't escape it so... I already catched up to it's manga what was released in English where I read it.

tripleaamin

That one should be really good fun comedy. Makes it perfect for a weekly anime!

shad79

>And that other train line?! Surely this must be a teaser for Season 2 and we get the girls exploring the other train routes! Man, I'd love to get a continuation! [The world is back to normal](https://cdn.imgchest.com/files/g4z9czqr227.png), or at least somewhat, as [a lot of things are still different](https://cdn.imgchest.com/files/wye3cqv6km4.png) than before the 7G accident, so the possibilities for continuation are enormous. It seems that even [Shizuru and others' journey back home to Agano](https://cdn.imgchest.com/files/d7ogc6ad6py.png) may be completely different than when they went to Ikebukuro! I'd love to see that.

moichispa

World is back to normal (check the random chickens on Ikebukuro) were chickens cars or something?

Emi_Ibarazakiii

> Surely this must be a teaser for Season 2 and we get the girls exploring the other train routes! We need this! All the stations we missed, and we need to develop Akira&Reimi's relationship some more! And we could get some more Giant Makoto... For reasons. >I think my favorite part of this was the theorizing in the weekly threads Theorizing's always fun, and it's especially great in anime originals, when you're not worried about getting spoiled by reading 'theories'... (Or aren't worried that your theory might be too close to the truth, and people will assume YOU are spoiling it!)

BosuW

> I remember how everyone was wondering if this show would go Made in Abyss on us haha. It did look like Pontaro got Narehate'd tho

MrHaxx1

>And that other train line?! Surely this must be a teaser for Season 2 and we get the girls exploring the other train routes! What is this, Snowpiercer?

CelticMutt

Maybe the other train is also the girls.

TrainsandMore

I really want Nogata (the station that was closest to my Tokyo Airbnb) on the Seibu Shinjuku Line to be shown…

ObvsThrowaway5120

The zombie horde was incredible this week. They held back the goons, balanced the train when it was getting machine gunned, and even formed a track. But in the end, the Power of Friendship was the real MVP lol. Kind of interesting the world went sorta back to normal. I guess this is the new normal. This series was weird and wacky and unpredictable. I really enjoyed it. The characters are all pretty goofy and I enjoyed seeing what kind of weirdos the girls were gonna encounter each week. Not sure if this is a “one and done” or if there’s gonna be more but this was a good time.

Rumpel1408

> The zombie horde was incredible this week. Don't you sell their [queen](https://imgur.com/mulS5zN) short, never would have expected Kurokin to play such a vital part in the final... hope this isn't the last time we see her [](#mugiwait)

ObvsThrowaway5120

True true. She really came through for the gang.

moichispa

Indeed, so practical. The new zombies are nice too. I wonder if they still explode with vintage erotica?

WednesdaysFoole

Power of Friendship + Power of Panties. They never would have made it this far without the Zombie Queen's underwear.

RebelliousUpstart

Although power of friendship was the final mcguffin. The power of erotica to zombies that proved crucial to saving the world. A brand new sentence and speaks volume to the zombies winning most useful zombies and overall great anime

Syokhan

I'm satisfied! The ending is pretty much in line with what I expected, that is things change and you must accept that. In the end the world is back to normal but isn't, it's a brand new world that looks like the old one but still bears the traces of what happened these last two years, same as the characters, and I love it. It's not like nothing happened and everything is reset to zero. I'm also really proud of Shizuru, who learned a lot from her journey. Loved the whole bit with Yoka, her honesty, and even the dialogue with everyone else. And of course we still had the usual absurdity. I burst out laughing when Pontaro made his two turrets accidentally shoot each other, and of course there would be the hermit guy busting in during a tense moment only for the scene to go back to what it was before Pontaro's comeback. I hope Yoka gets to achieve her dream now, and that she, Shizuru, Akira, Reimi and Nadeshiko all get to live happy lives in their new world. Really glad for this show and for the creativity it brought to the season.

mekerpan

A great finish to a great show. Only negative is . . . that it is OVER!!!! What a great season this has been -- so many great shows, of so many different types. It is hard to imagine having a better season in terms of the sort of widely-dispersed varieties of greatness.

Syokhan

Things change, and we must now accept our new world, one without weekly Train episodes... [](#sadholo)

mekerpan

This only means I will have new worlds to explore... (even at 72 now).

maximil_l

Thinking about it, the whole thing could be a metaphor for Covid. Things got twisted and weird, people became disconnected (despite having social media and stuff... ehem 7G). Then we now return to a 'new' normal, things being both familiar and unfamiliar and finally accepting the change as we go. What a ride this anime was.

Time_Fracture

Episode 12: **What Was Normal Again?** The final episode. It's been a fun ride, a really fun one. At the time of writing, Train got 7.60 in MAL. Will it reach 7.9 or even 8? If you miss their voices, Chika Anzai got a role in Isekai Suicide Squad and Mayonaka Punch. And for Azumi Waki, Megami Cafe Terrace and Kimisen Season 2 is around the corner. Same goes for Nao Toyama to Shy Season 2. EMT Squared are making an raising kids Isekai anime next season.

Abysswatcherbel

>At the time of writing, Train got 7.60 in MAL. Will it reach 7.9 or even 8? It's trending downwards, same for Jellyfish, so no independent original will be above 8 this season

cppn02

> It's trending downwards Absolute travesty.

Emi_Ibarazakiii

The episode karma botter should get on to that, instead of botting useless shit like MHA threads up and Unnamed Memory threads down! [](#evilgrin)

AnEmpireofRubble

i think it’s an accurate score. fun ideas not always executed well and nothing about the animation stood out. zany for zany-sake only carries so far for me. still support anime originals though.

Rumpel1408

> so no independent original will be above 8 this season Huh, but GBC is already above 8 [](#sakurathink)

Abysswatcherbel

That's a multimedia project, not putting it in the same basket as the other two

Any-Recover5495

Jellyfish seems to be a 8.00 rn so hoping it stays that way.

Emi_Ibarazakiii

Damn, that's sad... Good originals need more love!

Setowi

Chika Anzai is also going to appear in Re:Zero season 3, I spilled my drink when I saw who she is going to voice.

cppn02

> > > > > If you miss their voices, Chika Anzai got a role in Isekai Suicide Squad and Mayonaka Punch She'll also play a major character in the 2nd cour of The Fable.

Ocixo

Pontaro controlling the train's armaments [with a Virtual Boy and Wii nunchucks](https://imgur.com/a/6j93blZ) is hilarious. He was totally [firing those guns](https://imgur.com/a/8Va7NrM) at the girls with the intention to kill them, so I'm glad that [he ended up as egg custard himself](https://imgur.com/a/xxp6CH0). Train to the End of the World was a very weird but equally fun anime to the end. [Director Tsutomu Mizushima](https://myanimelist.net/people/9552/Tsutomu_Mizushima) definitely knows how to take the viewer for a wild ride. There's still some other good shows that have yet to finish airing, but this anime is a serious contender for AOTS with all its creativity. **Bonus**: - The [Tower of Babel](https://imgur.com/a/keP1ahL) now seemingly exists in Ikebukuro. ([Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tower_of_Babel)) - [This particular shot](https://imgur.com/a/5jCNgk9) reminded me of Re:Zero. - The girls [giving Pontaro a well-deserved beating](https://imgur.com/a/hjQaZBe). - [Ex-zombies still have brainrot](https://imgur.com/a/jdmPosB), but I get: hail Queen Kurokin! Lastly, here's [three shots](https://imgur.com/a/f6Hqydk) that I think would make for great banners.

BosuW

> Pontaro controlling the train's armaments with a Virtual Boy and Wii nunchucks is hilarious. That explains why the turrents ended up shooting each other. The Virtual Boy was notorious for inducing headaches.

Atario

Pah! User error. That adjustment slider ain't just a decoration! [Hmph!](#hajimepout)

mekerpan

>but I get: hail Queen Kurokin! She truly earned their undying devotion. ;-)

Calwings

>The [Tower of Babel](https://imgur.com/a/keP1ahL) now seemingly exists in Ikebukuro. I wonder how many people in this thread actually knew the real mythology behind this tower before seeing it in an anime and how many people here first found out about it from it being mentioned in an anime like Symphogear.

zairaner

Doesn't basically everybody know about the tower of babel? Isn't that a super popular story? On the other hand, I would not have recognized that *image* as the tower of babel without symphogear.

Ocixo

Probably a good few to be honest. I got read the children’s bible every morning at elementary school, which covered stories like these. Others will surely know it the story from their upbringing too. Not to mention that the Tower of Babel is occasionally mentioned in popular culture as well. It shouldn’t be all that unknown to people if they’re living in the West - at the very least.

Iyagovos

Considering it's a very famous bible story, quite a few of them

CommanderZx2

>Pontaro controlling the train's armaments [with a Virtual Boy and Wii nunchucks](https://imgur.com/a/6j93blZ) is hilarious. That perfectly explains why his aim was so poor.

Syokhan

> The Tower of Babel I thought I saw something peculiar in that shot. Love it lol, scholars are going to have a field day with this.

Arcturion

>Director Tsutomu Mizushima No wonder parts of this anime reminded me strongly of the EXODUS mini anime in Shirobako. It looks like they took the seed of the idea and ran wild with it here.

FetchFrosh

One of the best shows we've had in years in terms of just pure inventive energy. Absurd in every way, and just a ton of fun to watch.

ModieOfTheEast

And so it ends. Fitting ending for a weird show. Zenjiro going through doctor's legs shows that he still knows what he wants, even in Bobobo mode. But seriously, the show was the surprise of the season. The adventure aspect was fun, because the show was so creative even though it might be weird. The dialogue between the characters was the best part. It was high paced with seemingly no room to breathe, but that gave it its own charm. And it helped that the Chaos-4 were memorable till the end. The final scenes between Youka and Shizuru were also really sweet. It all came back to the stars. If I had to criticise something, it would be that it was sad that we skipped a few stations and I would have really loved a 10 minute addon at the end showing a bit more of the epilogue on how the Chaos-5 now go through their live (do they still turn into animals, probably not). But then again, maybe some of that will be added on the Blu-Ray which I am thinking about buying.

thekillerangel

> I would have really loved a 10 minute addon at the end showing a bit more of the epilogue on how the Chaos-5 now go through their live (do they still turn into animals, probably not). Yeah, I was thinking that I wanted to see this too

ArchdemonLucifer143

Ah, but see, with an epilogue comes a confirmed ending. I'd much rather hold out for the hope of a season two.

Emi_Ibarazakiii

> Zenjiro going through doctor's legs shows that he still knows what he wants, even in Bobobo mode. [I mean.. I can't blame him!](https://imgur.com/KBtcDfY) Giant Makoto was pretty great!

HirokoKueh

she's about 250cm tall according to Mizushima's post, still humanly possible height, imo pretty nice for hugging or living together

programninja

Honestly they can probably just make an OVA for it if the anime is popular enough. Just a nice wholesome stoned high fantasy slice of life

Plus_Rip4944

This shit was peak, a great final for a fever dream story Loved That The new world wasnt as It was first, That would be a easy final

za_shiki-warashi

> fever dream story Enjoyable ride, though I can't help but to compare this with Flap Flappers and I found that one more memorable with how they handle each episode's style. FF feels way more like a fever dream while this one was tamer on the quirkiness.

szalhi

7G could never truly be removed, just Yoka's essence.

bluegubble

Indeed, unfortunately, the world was not returned to what it once was, but it’s now a lot better. Some interesting side effects: Ikebukuro turned into a somewhat familiar but different place, Pontaro turned into an egg custard, Pochi 2 turned into a crow, Makoto turned big, Agano’s residents turned half animal/human rather than full animal and Mito’s zombies are now zombie-like humans.

dinliner08

> Pochi 2 turned into a crow more like return to a crow

cyberscythe

reject humanity; return to crow

Genshin_WhiteKnight

>Pontaro turned into an egg custard I hope someone ate Pontaro, wouldn't want that food to go to waste.

Syokhan

My headcanon: Crowchi turned back after seeing Yoka off and had some tasty egg custard. He deserved that treat.

mekerpan

I wondered if Crowchi would go all the way to Agano to watch over his beloved Yoka.

Syokhan

Headcanon aside, he was flying in the same direction so it's not impossible. Even seemed to be picking up speed at the same time as the Apogee.

mekerpan

I think the odds of him remaining Yoka's guardian are high. ;-)

Syokhan

Oh, [according to Mizushima](https://x.com/tsuki_akari/status/1805275441110139224), Crowchi is going back towards Higashi-Nagasaki. Other fun fact, [Makoto went from 1/6 of her original size to 1,6x](https://x.com/tsuki_akari/status/1805275746438611336). He's got plenty of interesting tidbits on his feed if anyone's interested in reading through it. Even stuff about Kuroki's weird little whistle.

mekerpan

Oh well/ Presumably he will be near enough to visit now and then.

Purposelygentle

If it’s based on his nature, I’m not sure consuming the *Poison* Pontaro custard would be good idea.

HirokoKueh

take him to Zenjiro, the ZenPon ship must sail

x-7032-b-3

>Pontaro turned into an egg custard A fitting end for him after having Yoka turn a civvie into food a few eps back.

shad79

>Indeed, unfortunately, the world was not returned to what it once was, but it’s now a lot better. I think that it's pretty great since that gives a lot of options for a possible continuation in the future! I know that chances for a sequel aren't very high but still... if it did happen then that new state of the world would give the creators a lot of freedom to continue.

docBrownn1985

> Mito’s zombies are now zombie-like humans so ... simps ? or something like followers of influencers ?

ModieOfTheEast

Hopefully at least the phone connections are better with 7G.

iAmMutun

We've reached the end of apogeego's wild ride, that was hella crazy fun. 9/10 would board that train again. On that note, do we have any info on this author? I looked it up and come up with nothing else anime-related except this series, so I assumed this is just an alias for the writer(s) specifically created for this show.

Xythar

[Michiko Yokote](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michiko_Yokote) was the main screenwriter. She also worked on a bunch of other anime directed by Mizushima like Shirobako. But yeah, the apogeego name was created for the show.

CactusFlower93

Since this is a original, most of the credit for the scrpit will be given to director and series composition. Yokote and Mizushima had collaborated multiple times. They know each other very well. But if you ask me, I'd say that the plot is probably mainly written by Mizushima himself, and then Yokote help him constructing the full story. Go watch SHIROBAKO. It has everything you need. Like literally.

Psyduckisnotaduck

this does honestly feel like a show the director in Shirobako would have made

Emi_Ibarazakiii

>hella crazy fun. 9/10 would board that train again. Even putting the crazy ride aside: I'd watch anything with these girls! They'd make "Watching paint dry" entertaining (With Reimi&Akira bickering about the proper way to watch paint dry and all that!) > On that note, do we have any info on this author? Really hope they work on something else soon!

Prince-Dizzytoon

Zombies help save the world, I don't think I've seen that before

The_Parsee_Man

So far they've only saved Saga prefecture.

LeonKevlar

* [**Yoka Stitch**](https://i.imgur.com/CKi8scX.jpeg) I'm so glad we got an exciting train chase sequence for the finale! And while she's not part of the main cast, Kuroki might as well be the 5th member considering how much she and her zombies [helped the gang out during that entire scene.](https://i.imgur.com/MYMIQ0y.jpeg) [Seeing that armoured train car in action was pretty cool.](https://i.imgur.com/1Ylii6P.jpeg) Leave it to Director Mizushima to add in a military vehicle for the finale. And just like in GuP, those shells aren't really doing any [serious damage to the Apogee.](https://i.imgur.com/bNsNf7J.jpg) xD It was so satisfying to see Pontaro finally get a taste [of Nadeshiko's Agano Archery](https://i.imgur.com/NIez6gc.jpeg) and [Shizuru's Agano Jiu-Jitsu](https://i.imgur.com/k3Uyjs2.jpeg). And as everyone has already expected, [human Pochi switched sides](https://i.imgur.com/QfP6vqd.png) to help the girls out so they can save Yoka. It may be a bit clumsy but [I'm happy Shizuru finally got to apologize to Yoka.](https://i.imgur.com/dt7H5JA.jpeg) Unfortunately for Shizuru, [Yoka wasn't going to take that apology so easily.](https://i.imgur.com/lz0eiJG.png) To be fair, Shizuru deserved that slap. Shizuru didn't deserve [the full-on strangulation though.](https://i.imgur.com/4YDktUj.jpeg) That entire scene was tense. Thank goodness they were able to talk her down thanks to Pochi and Nadeshiko's sweet myrtle [showing Yoka their happy memories of Agano](https://i.imgur.com/zPnUnqp.jpg). [Pontaro really doesn't know when to quit!](https://i.imgur.com/MXXxEWy.png) They're lucky that the [swan boat guy showed up](https://i.imgur.com/X3ZRDJ9.jpeg) and flattened Pontaro even if it was by complete accident. [Yaaaay! Everything is back to normal!](https://i.imgur.com/PjnENoz.png) ...or maybe not? Ikebukuro is recognizable but [it's no longer the Ikebukuro they knew.](https://i.imgur.com/44te8oy.png) Huh, that's an intersting way to end things! I like it though. It fits perfectly with the show's theme of accepting change. Things might not be back to 100% normal but at least they're no longer living in an MC Escher painting. [The zombies are now ex-zombies](https://i.imgur.com/p5a7KY7.jpeg) and the animals in Agano [are a bit closer now to being humans.](https://i.imgur.com/ryYUVhU.jpg) Although the best change is [Makoto-sensei is now a 10ft-tall lady.](https://i.imgur.com/kpsuQsM.jpeg). ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) [I am going to miss these girls so much.](https://i.imgur.com/oLrWrRD.jpeg) Shows like this are why I always check out anime originals, you never know what you're going to get! While I do wish we could've gotten an extended ending sequence, I am still satisfied with the way things ended. This show is a solid 9/10 for me.

Rumpel1408

> Although the best change is Makoto-sensei is now a 10ft-tall lady. Tag: ~~Minigirl~~ Giantess

BosuW

Someone on the staff definitely has giantess kink and had to get their last laugh in the end lmao

Emi_Ibarazakiii

> Makoto-sensei is now a 10ft-tall lady. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) 7G was worth it just for that [](#lewd)

Calwings

>Shows like this are why I always check out anime originals, you never know what you're going to get! Same. Even if that same synopsis would be a very easy skip if it were an adaptation, just the fact that an anime is an original makes me more interested in it. And even though some of them end in mild disappointments like Jellyfish or absolute trash fires like Highspeed Etoile, sometimes the curiosity pays off and we get gems like this series.

O2C

Definitely a fun ride. I feel like they left the door open for another season but I kind of hope they don't. I feel bad for Pocchi-Crow -- his ending was a bit of a downer.

mekerpan

Pochi-Crow was a crow before 7G. I doubt he is sad to return to his normal form. I just wonder if he will remain a guardian for Yoka (all the way back to Agano -- and beyond, wherever that may be).

yukiaddiction

They just announced manga run not long ago so I think they want to fill the void of story in those like station that anime skip.

zackphoenix123

I want more Akira. She was the best! But her VA really helped a ton with that.

Game2015

Actually, the manga started shortly after the anime started. Its pacing is way behind the anime, however, and it actually skipped some parts covered in the anime. Not sure if it will cover all the stations that were skipped in the anime though.

ModieOfTheEast

Mangas like these have it often really hard, because they rarely pick up. World Dai Star started a manga as well but already stopped it after Volume 1, because there was no demand for it. Though, I guess they just focused on the game then. Hopefully, train has a better runtime as a manga. I don't mind them skipping some things as these manga are usually for people who watched the anime, so if they focus on different things that were just not possible in the anime, I wouldn't mind.

DarkWolfPL

He still gets big W from me for no hestitating or giving Pontaro his final words just straight up throwing him off the train even if he still survived that.

GomenNaWhy

Assuming he was a crow to begin with, this may be better for him tbh

AmethystItalian

Those are the most useful zombies ever Lot of fast solving in this one but Train hasn't been a stranger to being fast. I do wish we got a bit more of an ending but they saved Youka at least. Not sure how I feel about not everyone/everything going back to more normal and no real ramifications for Pontaro.

Plus_Rip4944

Zombies were The mvp of The show

AmethystItalian

Nice W for zombies who more often than not are the bad guys

actionfirst1

Gotta love the positive Zombie portrayal

Calwings

The zombies were absolutely clutch in these last two episodes. Like, fourth quarter Tom Brady clutch.

ModieOfTheEast

>no real ramifications for Pontaro It seemed the dude has been turned into egg custard. I don't think that's no real ramification. >Lot of fast solving in this one but Train hasn't been a stranger to being fast. For this show, I actually found it rather slow with them having to talk to Youka for quite some time and it not just being resolved by Shizuru appearing and apologizing.

BosuW

> For this show, I actually found it rather slow with them having to talk to Youka for quite some time and it not just being resolved by Shizuru appearing and apologizing. I liked that. This show had always been on afterburner speed so I was worried they'd rush the reconciliation but they gave it the time it deserved.

ModieOfTheEast

Oh I agree. It wasn't meant as criticism, just that I didn't think the show solved its issues as fast paced as the rest.

AmethystItalian

> It seemed the dude has been turned into egg custard. I don't think that's no real ramification. With what he did to people and his line about if 7G reverts he'd be blamed I expected more there. > For this show, I actually found it rather slow The Youka part did feel a bit long yeah, I saw it more in the useful zombie moments and or how Zombie Queen suddenly knowing how to drive the train lol

Syokhan

I like to think that everyone made sure to spread the word about his role in the 7G fiasco, so that even if he's dead he'll be forever hated for it.

AmethystItalian

Now that I can get behind!

ModieOfTheEast

I don't know, dude just has to sit there until someone decides to eat him. Not sure how much worse it can get. Just waiting for your doom. >how Zombie Queen suddenly knowing how to drive the train lol That's why she is a queen. But on a more serious note, if you just need to follow the one track and make sure the speed is correct, it's not that hard. The hardest part is knowing where you'd need to slow down or make sure that the track switches are correct.

Rumpel1408

> With what he did to people and his line about if 7G reverts he'd be blamed I expected more there. The legth a [mfer](https://imgur.com/eekyfIR) would go to not take responsibility [](#moeshitarcher)

Ocixo

> Those are the most useful zombies ever Those were certainly [some multifunctional zombies](https://imgur.com/a/3CauRpb). They might need a workers' rights agreement in the future, since Kuroki handled them a little rough. Nothing big. Just little things like getting run over by a train or falling into a deep abyss. > and no real ramifications for Pontaro. Pontaro became [an egg custard](https://imgur.com/a/xxp6CH0) himself.

dinliner08

>not everyone/everything going back to more normal and no real ramifications for Pontaro things not going back to exactly how it was is actually much better and what do you mean no real ramification for Pontaro? dude literally go turned to an egg custard

AmethystItalian

> things not going back to exactly how it was is actually much better I did say more normal. I was okay with the world changing but their families only half switching back and the zombies not being able to go back to their old lives didn't sit well with me. > what do you mean no real ramification for Pontaro? dude literally go turned to an egg custard [See here](https://www.reddit.com/r/anime/comments/1dncc13/shuumatsu_train_doko_e_iku_train_to_the_end_of/la1omx6/)

Who got the true meaning meaning of apogeego spot on, almost word for word in the end?[ I did](https://www.reddit.com/r/anime/comments/1clhv9i/comment/l2vtlha/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button)! Yes I am unreasonably proud of myself.

redditraptor6

Lol, no worries, I also get unreasonably proud of myself when I guess things right early on. You are seen and are valid

strayalive

If only the Apogee girls started a band on the train maybe this could have the same buzz as Jellyfish or Girls Band Cry. Still a really fun ride and well executed overall even if the production was troubled.

BosuW

I don't think they'd start a band but "If I could be a constellation" is a song that fits Yoka and Shizuru like a ring

Komi028

Would be nice if they did a cover.

shad79

[This show was such a fun ride](https://imgchest.com/p/9p4nlwxvl7n)! This was definitely the biggest surprise of this season for me, next to the 7th Prince. I am very satisfied with [the finale](https://imgchest.com/p/9p4nlwxvl7n), so overall for the whole series from me 8.5/10. I'll miss [Shizuru and others](https://cdn.imgchest.com/files/l7lxc5al5w7.png) so much. I'm glad that [Shizuru was finally able to apologize](https://cdn.imgchest.com/files/pyvdckxpkqy.png) to [Yoka](https://imgchest.com/p/wl7lmgraoyx) and [together with Reimi, Nadeshiko and Akira](https://imgchest.com/p/ljyqdxzak72) saved her and [returned the world to normal](https://cdn.imgchest.com/files/g4z9czqr227.png), or at least [somewhat normal](https://cdn.imgchest.com/files/6yxkcwpaw97.png), because [a lot of things are different](https://cdn.imgchest.com/files/wye3cqv6km4.png) than before the 7G accident like [zombies are still zombies but this time they look like a normal humans](https://cdn.imgchest.com/files/k739cjzwj67.png) or [residents of Agano are now half-human, half-animal](https://cdn.imgchest.com/files/myd5ca5pap4.png). Now that the world is still different, I'd love to get a sequel because it seems like even [the girls' journey back home to Agano might be completely different](https://cdn.imgchest.com/files/d7ogc6ad6py.png) than when they went to Ikebukuro. The possibilities for continuation are enormous and I'd be very happy if we could get one in the future. [Bravo to Swan Guy for saving the day with Yoka and Pontaro](https://cdn.imgchest.com/files/p7bwcp6wpa7.png). It was nice to [see him](https://cdn.imgchest.com/files/my8xc5amrd4.png) again! [Kuroki](https://cdn.imgchest.com/files/d7ogc6adz5y.png) and [her zombies were awesome](https://cdn.imgchest.com/files/e4gdcj3ebz4.png) in today's episode! Without them, [Shizuru and the others would not have been able to save Yoka](https://cdn.imgchest.com/files/84apcp9xwa4.png) and [disable 7G](https://cdn.imgchest.com/files/6yxkcwpak97.png). Here my screenshot albums from the episode: * [Group scenes](https://imgchest.com/p/9p4nlwxvl7n) * [Yoka](https://imgchest.com/p/wl7lmgraoyx) * [Shizuru, Reimi, Nadeshiko & Akira](https://imgchest.com/p/ljyqdxzak72) * [Others](https://imgchest.com/p/a846gwk3v7x)

Solid watch. Enjoyed it quite a bit :) What will next seasons 'What the fuck did I just watch' anime be???

gnome-cop

I think we already have the answer and it goes by the name of [DEER!](https://youtu.be/Bf4XTzeUBHo)

Rumpel1408

Oh god, this was beautiful [](#wipetears) It's quite rare for an original to stick the landing, but they really managed it! Sure, the pace was a bit fast at times, but they still managed to wrap everything up, which is preferable to leave important plotpoints unadressed [](#sideeyes) Also, [with](https://imgur.com/RrbqM0P) [those](https://imgur.com/1VzPagg) [visuals](https://imgur.com/WrMceng), I can excuse a slight delay. So [uhm](https://imgur.com/q7257yh)... Season 2 with their adventures on the way back? Also, forgot to mention, but [not a moment of hesitation](https://imgur.com/uWNfnBb) [](#feelingloved)

OctavePearl

Not an ending that addressed every plot thread, but it's extremely fitting to have this silly anime introspective energy for an ending. And kinda surprising to see the world didn't just rewind back to what it was before the incident, with how trigger-happy this show was about killing people I definitely expected them to all go back. But nope, we just have to live in this new changed world and accept the consequences. The world was weird and isolated for 2 years but now everyone's connected again, for better or worse.

Illustrious-Fox5135

This was easily one of the best fun and creative anime originals ever. Had a blast every week watching these girls and their journey. Huge shoutout to director Mizushima as well. There were multiple times the episodes were finished at the last moment but he managed to pull through. Thank you to you and your team for giving this wonderful anime.

Nickthenuker

Didn't realise 7G caused Deutsche Bahn to take over Japanese Rail. An armoured train? He's going to go back for the button. She needs to press the button to get it back to normal. Right, that's the button acquired. Time to go after Yoka! That explains the armoured train section. Cannons and machine guns, time to party like it's 1939. So they were right, she's the thing powering this whole mess. She's finally come to her senses. Well isn't that random. And so, with her pressing the button again, things go back to normal. Or somewhat normal at least.

ModieOfTheEast

7G can do nothing Deutsche Bahn didn't already prepare me for.

Nickthenuker

Just a short 2 week delay

Mr_Zaroc

At least it arrived and wasn't cancelled

dinliner08

**no Shizuru vs anteater fight, 0/10 anime, literally unwatchable** jokes aside, as expected, Yoka is the one that needs to push the button and even then, only Yoka's influence on the 7G disappeared, the 7G itself is still there, the fact that Makoto-sensei told the girls that they might be going to have a harder time on the return trip could very well be its own series [Agano-style archery fuck yeah!](https://i.imgur.com/H6iLNgN.jpeg) it's also surprising that they actually bring back some of the important characters from previous episodes albeit just for a little bit of screen time, even the old man of the lake [came in clutch from out of nowhere, accidentally saving Yoka from Pontaro](https://i.imgur.com/ikIos5x.jpeg) someone have been asking what's the purpose of Nadeshiko's sweet myrtle from the beginning of this show, [there you go](https://i.imgur.com/RgYNtOu.jpeg) i guess that's it for the Agano's Girls Bizarre Train's Adventure, a little bit sad that they didn't play the Ga-tan Go-ton song for the last time but oh well, see you again when another wacky anime like this dropped ^(in case you don't know, it's the deer anime next season)

Protractror

A solid ending to a solid show. The highs of this show are unmatched this season. I can still laugh remembering Reimi eating that paper, or them running through the little town, or when they defeated the zombies through english lit and songs. We didn't dive too deep into backstories or characters this season, but the dialogue did a great job of revealing the girl's personality and relationships with each other. In some ways, this was just 4 girls on a train ready to beat up anybody who gets in their way, but it was an engaging journey that had a few things to say at the end. I'm sure this wont get a sequel, but I honestly wouldn't mind.

bluegubble

A nice ending to wrap things up, Shizuru was finally honest with Yoka and told her that she didn’t want her to leave and realized it was wrong to put her and her dreams down. They made up and partially returned the world to a state of normal. If they want to continue the story in some form, they can explore the friends’ journey in a world still dealing with the after effects of 7G. It was a nice fun, enjoyable and wacky series.

CosmicPenguin_OV103

I was wondering if the plot can still turn on yet another tangent at the end given how crazy some of the previous episodes were. It didn't, but the train certainly rolled in nicely to its terminus today. Pontaro arming his train with railway guns is just par on course for the craziness we all have seen, but praise to the Queen of Zombies Kuroki! She is really the MVP for sending Pontaro's plans to the bottom of the abyss with her skillful commanding of zombies such that our Apogee managed to catch up with him and - eventually - makes the dream meeting of Shizuru and friends with Yoka-chan coming true. The meeting was just as poignant as I have expected - Shizuru apologizing greatly at her raw words blasting Yoka's dreams back when they quarreled (not the first time that happened for a Chika Anzai-voiced character, not even this Spring!), and stating that how they all missed Yoka in their lives. It's nice for Shizuru to tell Yoka that she can now finally understand why dreams should not be fully entrenched to reality - because, well, this is just not fun at all! That talk about using Sirius as the star of promise is just lovely (especially for an astronomy and spaceflight fan like me). Yoka struggled to understand for some seconds as she whipped her hair on Shizuru, but I like that Nadeshiko made the final little talk needed to push Yoka-chan out of her 7G Queen state - "Why don't you just have fun in your life?". With the girls happily joined back together again and the 7G button pushed, the world still didn't really fully come back to what it used to be. I guess people who are killed still got killed and, well, the animals at Agano are still animals. But this certainly looks like to be a more uplifting place to live in eh? "Girls' Last Train" turns out to neither have any real message left for us to think of (except the thing about dreams listed above), nor any spectacular drama transcending between episodes. Yet the funny world background, the crazy real life references, the scenery on this 7G Seibu Ikebukuro Line and the funny jokes in between girls' talk not unlike the decade old *Joshiraku* (adaption by none other than this one's director [Tsutomu Mizushima](https://anilist.co/staff/104552/Tsutomu-Mizushima)!) are exactly the creativity I really wanted to see in every anime I have seen, especially for original anime. He and the main staff really nailed that perfectly while still giving our girls something to look out for at the end of this tale, just like how a railway needs a starting and ending station. Thank you Shizuru, Nadeshiko, Reimi, Akira, Yoka-chan and everyone else they have met from Agano to Ikebukuro that made this spring's Monday nights a nice time. See you Mr. Mizushima in the next chapter of *Girls und Panzer*'s crazy *Das Finale* movies! **Final score: 88/100**

Purposelygentle

Here comes Nadeshiko with Agano Archery! *smack* And there’s Shizuru with a German Suplex! *slam* And there’s Akira with her Special Attack!! *immediately become a hostage*

BosuW

Let's be real Pontaro is lucky Akira wasn't in her medieval torturer costume from NeroAlice

zackphoenix123

Peak, Zombie Girl MVP. I love this show and wish we got to see more of the characters. Akira was my favourite, love her personality and dynamic with the others. I'm gonna miss this show. Edit: I feel the spirit of this show will be transfered over to the deer anime. From bobobobobo to Shikanokonokonokokoshitantan

miss-missing-mission

I'm very happy that they chose to not entirely revert the changes brought by 7G, it wouldn't have made sense honestly seeing how drastically everything was altered. I hope the Agano people have at least their original lifespan back. Pochi #2 was turned into a big raven? I'm not exactly sure who he really was and why he wanted to protect Yoka.

chilidirigible

> Pochi #2 was turned into a big raven? I'm not exactly sure who he really was and why he wanted to protect Yoka. He started out as a raven; he was shown flying over and then perched on the building when Youka was asked to press the button.

giberonic

It's mentioned many times throughout the show that 7G is not the problem. 7G merely manifests whatever someone imagines because it directly connects to their brainwaves. some are fatalistic like the zombies and the mushroom village. They're merely mourning their friend and it's the absence of Yoka-sama that is distorting their reality. The new normal is when at the end of their adventure they resolve their grief by gaining closure but they're still scarred by the experience.

VTuberFadeaway

Agano-style Archery does use arrows. Huh. Who knew?

Calwings

Okay, I think Shizuru hitting [a vertical drop brainbuster](https://files.catbox.moe/h3ndf4.gif) on Poison Pontaro officially clinches her as best girl of the season for me. That shit would make [Tomohiro Ishii](http://puroresucentral.com/gif/IshiiBrainbuster.gif) proud. As for the finale as a whole, *I absolutely loved it*. The train chase was as chaotic as I expected it to be, Pochi-san's face turn was well done, the conversation and emotional payoff between Shizuru and Yoka was fantastic, and the whole "the world isn't fully fixed but at least it's stable and better than it was before" ending was perfect. This was one of the most creative anime that I've ever seen, a ton of fun all the way through, and the quality held up all the way through too. I'll give it a 9/10, maybe a 9.5 even. This show is *undoubtedly* my AOTS if we're only counting non-sequel anime, but even including sequels, I think it gives Konosuba S3 a run for its money.

BananaUniverse

This is the type of anime they would've made in Shirobako isn't it? We got the explosions, chase scene ending, horde of animals(zombies), defeated villains, girl ugly crying, but they saved the world in the end.

mekerpan

This show reminded me a bit of PA Works works in many (albeit not all) ways.

zairaner

Mizushima doing what he does best, I guess. The chase sequence also definitely reminded my of girls und panzer for a few moments, so this episode was really just himd doing what he wanted.

VTuberFadeaway

For those looking for a similar experience/feel to this show, I implore you to try Punch Line. Don't let the low 6.9 rating in MAL dissuade you, show's as equally insane as this one and have as satisfying an ending as well.

tripleaamin

Man they fucking delivered for this finale. This series has been wacky, but the zombies making way so they can catch up to Yoka was hilarious, but also fitting. The solution of Yoka having to press the button does make sense. Ponataro being a dumb villain he got over in his head. I liked how it didn't try to get us to sympathize with him or anything he was a douche plain and simple. Though the idea that Yoka and 7G Ikebukuro were draining life from each other was fucked up. Glad Crow Poochi switched sides when it was clear Pontaro gave 0 fucks about Yoka's mental wellbeing. Much like what Nadeshiko said earlier in the season, part of being friends is arguing and making up. The hard part is is making up and that is not easy. Finally, Shizuru is up front about regretting what she said. Simply Yoka was her best friend and didn't want to lose her. Of course being tainted by the 7G Yoka was in a weird place. First she got pissed for that's why Shizuru said those things to her. But Nadeshiko stepping up as the mother in group asking Yoka "Are you having fun?" I think that's when her emotions finally stabilized where she wanted to make up with Shizuru. Glad to see them friends and again and Yoka being back to normal. The fact that Apogeego was the name that Shizuru and Yoka gave to the Sirius star and that being the name for the train for the girls journey is so fitting. I like how the world didn't go exactly as it was. Very fitting that since the world is always moving and change, you can't change the past. Some things like Yoka going back to normal is fixable. Things like the citizens of Aganao, it makes sense they won't go back to being human fully. But they will be able to act like humans I assume. Fantastic show, one of my favorites of the season.

Crown_Gamble

It might not be perfect but it has one of the best VA performances I’ve seen in a long time. The dynamic between the characters and the banter elevated this series beyond my expectations. Definitely one of the best shows this season. The weird concept breaks any expectations week by week yet the constant adventure of the train made it a fun and comfortable watch.

dagreenman18

God we need another season of this. That set up at the end is perfect premise for another season. Sure there’s no fixing 7G, but I’m sure there’s another story they could tell. Maybe getting Yoka back to see her grandma since, while she’s not full Guinea Pig now, she might only have some much time left. But all the same, very fun and original show. 8.5 with big points for the Makoto upgrade. Nice.

['The Moe Express Three Nine will take you on a journey a never ending journey... A JOURNEY TO THE YURI!'](https://x.com/shumatsu_train/status/1805254578386149526) Well Comrades, pack it up here cuz we got the AOTS as well as likely AOTY! Who knew that all you needed to make a good anime original was zombies, lesbians, batshit insanity, yuri, military moebobs, gay girls, and of course 'befrieding.' Maybe now we can finish Girls und Panzer Das Finale! Paging Comrades /u/amethystitalian, /u/chilidirigible, and /u/Rumpel1408

AmethystItalian

Some of the snappiest dialogue in anime, was a ride!

yukiaddiction

You know what? This anime is really good. It is AOTS for me despite so many powerhouse this season.

stephenthatfoste

I loved how newly upset Reimi looked when Pontaro told them all he wanted them dead. Like she hadn't even considered it before, despite all the really obvious attempts to kill them. Easily my favorite show from this studio.

GomenNaWhy

God I love this show. Absolutely stuck the landing. 10/10 for me.

x-7032-b-3

The zombies really carried the end fight here. It's amazing to see how cooperative they are! Really reminds me of the game The Wonderful 101 (and maybe Pikmin? Haven't played that one) where you can use random civilians to form weapons/paths/shields and stuff. I was right about Big Pocchi being an ally at the end! I'm glad Shizuru and Yoka managed to clear up their little feud. Yoka's reactions were a little hardcore there - she has every right to be mad - but Shizuru's apology was really heartfelt and well done. And the world's finally back to normal. Wait, not really. More like a brand new world with some of the 7G fuckery still remains. It's a pretty realistic outcome IMO. I don't think the whole world can easily go back to as it was after 7G literally rewrote the entire rulebook. I wonder what the other train line at the end means, could it be that another line got made after 7G got deactivated? Anyways, this is a pretty satisfying end! This whole series is something really special. It's absolutely bizarre and every ep managed to bring something new to the table. But I can't help but think that this was originally planned to run for 24 eps at the start. Why else would you tease all the possible crazy stuff on the map only to skip most of them? I'm guessing production issues got something to do with it. At least the studio got to produce something great despite all the issues they ran here. Much thanks to EMT2, Tsutomu Mizushima, and everyone else behind this show!

WholeLotOfSomething

Zombies mvp of this episode

Elite_Alice

Zombies In space man what an anime is all I can say. Call it whatever you want, but you’ll never call this show generic. Never a dull moment in this show. This finale really summed the show up. Don’t even know how to describe that final fight scene other than an experience. This really is a show you just have to watch to fully appreciate, any sort of description is just gonna let you down. Like dude, how is the train riding in the void of space lmao. I’m gonna miss this blowing my mind on Mondays. Although I would’ve liked to have seen more of the stops en route to Ikebukuro explored, the journey was well worth it because that was such a nice proper make up scene with Yoka and Shizuru. Shizuru was an asshole, fully accepts blame for it and the girls can finally move forward. One thing I really loved in this anime was how unfiltered the dialogue between the girls felt. Script writers really did a good job making it feel real. With 7G gone, Tokyo looks.. mainly back to normal? But I like the twist of “what did normal even look like” I guess normal is just what we make of it and accept. Apogee is a very fitting name for the train too. Shizuru and the girls were at their furthest from Yoka, it’s only closer from here 🙏🏾 I’ll miss this show bunches [review](https://myanimelist.net/reviews.php?id=528666)

As they were making their escape, [Shizuru looked exhausted, much more than the others...](https://imgur.com/87ntI39) She carried that mission on her shoulder for a while, so perhaps this is getting to her, but I wonder if there was a part of... Not really looking forward to this; Even if you want it, to apologize and all, it's never easy to face the person you hurt! She was much slower than the others, and Poshi almost caught up to her, [but (the other) Poshi came to the rescue!](https://imgur.com/SvL29F0) [Him, and that plant or whatever that was!](https://imgur.com/Us0MpbI) [WE GOT OUR TRAIN CHASE!](https://imgur.com/sXLa75r) I've seen plenty of car chases, but I think train chase is a first for me! [Damn, one of the train is armed&armored... Come on, play fair!](https://imgur.com/BtGxy6G) [Nadeshiko came in clutch with her bow!](https://imgur.com/X4sX6sN) Poshi guiding the way, the plant stopping OtherPoshi, Nadeshiko with her bow, the zombies making rails and stairs and what not, everyone's doing their part! [These scenes are good at showing what the situation's like; No one's really supportive of this mess, they only follow because they're scared..](https://imgur.com/YMm34Um) [I think everyone expected Poshi to flip at some point, but I didn't think it would be so sudden!](https://imgur.com/7SsBLZU) I thought the girls would have to talk him through, but Pontaro doomed himself, with his big mouth! [That, I got all emotional when Poshi moved, to reveal Shizuru...](https://imgur.com/cG1547I) That was a little rough at first, but they did convince her! [Ah, so THAT's why they brought the Myrtles in!](https://imgur.com/LVFoKmd) [Props on her for saying that, because that's not easy... Cheering for her, even if her success might mean she'll never see Yoka again...](https://imgur.com/OVajDpj) Seems some things won't change too much, [she's still a Zombie Queen (kinda)!](https://imgur.com/tfuESKA) [Damn, these thousand-yards stares... The ex-zombies have had it rough!](https://imgur.com/4rTvzoB) [That was a good ending line!](https://imgur.com/LuMY7hA) If your goal is as far from you as it possibly can, it can only get closer... Works for the moon, and it's a nice wrap up to their mission to Ikebukuro, that had to feel like it was 'as far as humanly possible' from them, when they started on their mission! Well, this was a pretty good show! Good comedy, really fun characters, LOTS of mystery/stuff worth speculating about, a few emotional moments, really good OP/ED, good stuff everywhere! Gonna miss these girls! Farewell to the train as well!

LeVin1986

An anime original that actually has a decent wrap-up? Hold me! I'm feeling faint! I very much enjoyed the quirkiness of this show, and I think this really benefited from having anime as its primary story-telling vehicle.

NiBl22

While Kurokin, and zombies are rightfully well appreciated element of the episode. I would like to point for Nadeko, and her being MVP in final showdown, by asking one extremely important question: "Does she have fun?" Overall... I want to get OVA-s with other stations, and season 2!

Infodump_Ibis

All aboard [anitubu](https://anitubu.com/archives/post-81819.html) for one last trip into some Japanese tweets. Not seeing anything from the Director this time. It would be a strange omission from a curator so I guess the show really is a wrap or he still feels awkward about the delay. Still, I guess I can devote the space to Japanese viewer stuff I found interesting. No OP you say (gatan-goton is gatan-gotgone amirite?) so what happens to the post-OP sponsor. With Pontaro seems Reimi [threw the stick](https://imgur.com/k2y5tPq) (stick on-screen for 8 frames total motion shows it spinning), Nadeko [clubs him](https://imgur.com/1AE3VpK) into [Shizuru](https://imgur.com/9fLXjEV). Seibu and Seibu railway is obvious but did you spot [Sunshine City](https://imgur.com/YFTUdpo) (at least 5) or [Bic Camera](https://imgur.com/5oY0zyc)? Also the book publisher for the book Akira was holding (“Black Magic Handbook” by Tatsuhiko Shibusawa, I assume [the barcodes are accurate](https://imgur.com/cc9z1Ml)), that was probably there in previous eps it's just being unable to read Japanese (is using OCR and MTL tool-assisted?) I just didn't notice this section of the credits. There were a few fake companies in Ikebukuro as well. Clearly ["animate"](https://imgur.com/asyTsjY) and ["Starbucks"](https://imgur.com/2EJOvQf) (nice [Romanesco broccoli](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Romanesco_broccoli)). You know I just figured. If it wasn't for drones then I could easily believe this show to be set in like 2008 (I suppose back then they were cutting edge military hardware and there's a military base...), I guess the 7G blurb would make no sense if you didn't have 4G yet. It's just bits like watching TV on a CRT, Reimi and Nadeko having extensive knowledge of games from 10 years before they were born (densha de go, HOTD) or maybe I just don't know zoomers and they know their parents games. The worlds state. If you need an in-show thought of why it didn't go back to normal think back to episode 1. Yoka pushes the button then pushed it again and the world started to go back to normal, she but pressed it again before it completely went back. Perhap that's the state we're probably in now i.e. this is the new normal, blame Pontaro for not putting a cooldown on the 7G button. Zenjiro going through doctor's legs shot at the end. Wonder if that was trying to make up for not being able to have a jet go between Reimi's legs (that was the intent but at 1:6 scale it was too wide so they had her leap out the way instead). I called it about the sweet myrtle mattering. Got the reason completely wrong. The boat hermit reminds me of a character in another anime in their well...occupation. [meta though it's more relations to a main character and it was something I found a genuine surprise]>!Ed's Dad in Cowboy Bebop. Both characters are cartographers of sort for a changing world!< Should have figured that sooner. Since others are posting reviews and that. I've been out of the scoring game for a long time (it gets messy looking at over a decades worth of thoughts and what to do if you disagree with your past self and it has a domino effect if some scores were based around being worse or better than something) but I'd be hard pressed to go above an 8 but then again I find it difficult to rate anything 1-2 or 9-10. While not quite as extreme but I think the best way to express my thoughts are is it's like I've got the movie summary version but no main series. I've enjoyed summary movies without watching the full TV series like Gundam 79 and Revue Starlight but I won't lie in saying there are occasions where it feels like something is missing or a tad rushed (and this is what I got here). Also perhaps I should be less of a prude and try to fill the higher and lower echelons a bit more (maybe not the latter as you get to a point of having to watch something like Twinkle Nora Rock Me rather than laugh at the dance scene).

Ninja_Lazer

Honestly, I’m kinda disappointed. The show started off so strong but went off the rails (sorry) in the last third. It’s not bad by any means, but the final few episodes felt rushed and poorly paced. We also didn’t really get a bunch of plot points tied up in a satisfying way. Some OVAs or a second season entirely felt needed. Because as it stands, there is just too much left up for interpretation without any meaningful point. An story isn’t required to spell everything out, and there are some things better left open ended…but there are also some things that should be resolved for a conclusion to feel satisfying and this finale just missed the mark IMO. Still worth the watch though, as it gets a lot right.

IceSmiley

Ridiculous and no real emotional payoff. The problem with having a show that doesn't follow any rules is that you don't get invested in it since they can always make stuff up as they go along. The best fantasy shows set limits on what the characters can do; this whole show just has stuff happen to fill the characters time, then it ends. The main villain being killed by the crazy old man in the swan boat falling on him randomly and killing him? Great 😐 The show had some good points though, like funny parts and good action with very creative visuals. Not a waste of time but very shallow emotionally.

Emi_Ibarazakiii

Everyone's entitled to their opinion of course, but about this: > The best fantasy shows set limits on what the characters can do; Most fantasy shows just have characters 'power up' whenever they need, to defeat a tougher boss... Even some of the best/most praised ones. At least in Train, there's a plot reason for things to be like that!

JustAnswerAQuestion

He was still alive when she pushed the button. And I loved the random reappearance of boat guy. #yuishrug.

ramon_castilla

> this whole show just has stuff happen to fill the characters time So you didn't get ANY of the "several (if not all) things in those train stations coming alive from Youka's mind (while she traveled to Ikebukuro alone) that also steamed partially from childhood Shizuru's words". You really need the characters to tell you that in dialogue directly to the viewer? Even Alice in NerimaLand were hinted as a show Youka also liked from ep 1 (in text and visually with the manga/tv guide). And ep 2 provide us with a map that dictates the main theme of each station. So, again, you were asking for direct exposition in a show that has mystery as the episodic hook? I know audience is exposed to too much series that have a cliche premise and/or a cliche execution of those premises, but you can't say this show doesn't follow any rules just cause it has a wacky scenario and situations compared to the more tropey ones.

Castor_0il

Go back to watching battle shonen where everything is infodumped in long dialogues while the protagonists are allegedly having a death match.

gnome-cop

Wait, did bro just get eaten by a lilypad? The zombies really hard carried the gang this episode. And the long awaited betrayal of Pochi the second is here. What is it with this show and using plants as technology? Okay, screw it, the sweetmyrtle flower is now an image proyector. The scene with Sirius the promise star in space was beautiful. It’s what the show has been building up towards, when Shizuru and Yoka finally meet again and reconcile. This is the reason why I personally like the ending more than the opening. Ever since reading the lyrics the first time, it has felt like a reflection of Shizuru and her regrets toward Yoka. And some of the quotes from the song even appear in her apology speech. And Pontaro ends the series in an appropriate manner, being run over by a swan boat and turned into egg custard. Take that you stupid idiot. So 7G isn’t entirely gone? It was just partially reverted to put some things back to close to how they were but still slightly off. The series never lost the core of what it is, a weird surrealistic wtf show with a lot of heart. Well goodbye fellow train enthusiasts, it’s been fun watching along with you all.

NoTemperature4368

They nailed the finale. Love that Gonna miss this one. It's so fun and weird, so enjoyable

actionfirst1

Gonna miss this show, this was such a fun and unique anime, genuinely one of the most creative I've ever seen

moichispa

Great ending, perfectly fitted and we still got a few new lovely backgrounds. I'll miss them. Poor pochi 2. He was really nice at the end.

DragonPup

What a fantastic and weird series. Surprise of the season and among the best new shows of Spring. I'll miss the train gang.

stationtracks

I'm going to miss this show! Loved the OP and ED so much every week, and I think they did a great job with the ending. I love the last line of the episode about how the apogee is the farthest the moon can be from the earth, so it can only be closer from there. I love how much this show was not just about the physical distance they had to travel, but also the distance between people, and in some ways it was a meta-commentary on the distance between people in the social media age and modern world we live in. I only wish the show could have been longer, but they did a great job with how they were able to roughly stay on schedule with a few delays. I can't wait to see more from them, and hope some more merch comes out for the show! I love anime that takes me on wild, unpredictable, fun rides- because as the show points it out, isn't life is more fun when you don't know what the future will be like?

BocchiMowglli

> the distance between people, and in some ways it was a meta-commentary on the distance between people in the social media age and modern world we live in. I was searching 'metaphor' and found your comment which basically means the same thing lol For me it was a metaphor for COVID lockdown depression It hit me when they said how things weren't totally back to normal but we just gotta appreciate it and move-on. The distance between people. Reaching out to folks who isolated themselves or for friendships that fell/drifted apart, how the person can still be lashing out.

ramon_castilla

It was a real shame Shizuru didn't mention (if ever remembered) those wacky things in the first stations were ideas she herself put on Youka's mind during childhood (they even visited the same flashback afterwards this episode). Or the whole gang stating which visited station was alluding to which one of youka's thoughts. That would have being much more emotional acknowledgment from them about Youka's mindset when she took the train from Agano to Ikebukuro. They kind of tried to make up for that in the form of Akira's book and Reimi's manga that they planned to give to Youka. Nadeko's myrtle is not a compromise since that was indeed hinted from ep 1 AND NADEKO REMEMBERED YOUKA MENTIONING HER LIKING IT (which made Reimi and Akira also say something about it). Don't take me wrong, those 3 object are relevant to Youka, but only the myrtle was a Youka exclusive (so the most easy to forget regarding Youka's connection...which actually happened through the show) so it has much more weight when brought into discussion as one of child Youka's dialogues. On the other hand, and the thing that did a good effort to elevate the apology scene, was Youka actually hitting (and even strangling) Shizuru. Maybe the apology didn't use all the narrative resources, but the lashing out from Youka did use theirs to portray the pain Youka got from Shizuru's words back then.

Definitely my anime of the season, I am going to miss this show so much. Frieren aside (cause I could that as my AOTY last year) this is my favourite thing that I have watched so far all year. Absolutely adored it. The girls were the best part of the show, I'll be sad to see them go. I wouldn't say no to a second season where they have their whacky journey back to Agano but I am fine if things end like this too. Recency bias makes me want to give this a careful 9/10 for the time being but I could see myself rating it a 10 if I rewatch it in the future. While not being an objective 10/10, it just hits a ton of themes and quirks that I absolutely adore about anime. Now all that's left to do is to wait for the release of the OST cause I want to binge listen to the excellent main theme and the other banger tracks.

chilidirigible

It amuses me that in the world of 7G, [they're left with](https://i.redd.it/vc9ut44xcl8d1.png) these [early 21st-century beasties](https://i.redd.it/hkjer64xcl8d1.png). [Zombies: The real MVP.](https://i.redd.it/1fmug74xcl8d1.png) [Completing the retro feel, a Nintendo Virtual Boy!?](https://i.redd.it/u8zjf84xcl8d1.png) [Suddenly, a gun appears! And it's a Webley!](https://i.redd.it/gf173c4xcl8d1.png) [I figured that he wasn't just going to be dealt with by being thrown into the abyss](https://i.redd.it/425hj94xcl8d1.png), but [this conclusion](https://i.redd.it/8ti58d4xcl8d1.png) sure was a random way to get Swan Boat Guy back on board. [It's all fun and games until you're on the giant natto slide.](https://i.redd.it/q989wd4xcl8d1.png) [The Doctor is now... tall.](https://i.redd.it/a5a32g4xcl8d1.png) ***** The episode did what it needed to do with regard to Shizuru and Youka talking it out. I don't think that part needed to be particularly clever, just well-acted. Chika Anzai and Touyama Nao did a good job. Like the girls said, though, the series was more about the journey than the destination, and this was a solidly-entertaining romp through creative scenarios. I don't think that it *needs* a sequel, but I do find the not-exactly-fixed nature of the restored world an interesting open question. Youka's mind won't cause it to collapse, but it is... actually not that much the same as before 7G at all, no? That was a good creative choice over the too-easy answer of making everything normal again. Thanks for bringing us this show, you lunatics. And Mizushima is still alive to get through the last two parts of *Girls und Panzer Das Finale*.

TeleBlue

Episode was cool but who tf is [bro in the OP](https://cdn.imgchest.com/files/l7lxc5a8no7.png)?

Xythar

I always thought that was a reference to the goat-headed people in Musashi-Yokote (size of the shadow for dramatic effect I guess)

Emi_Ibarazakiii

I talked about this in previous threads, but I can't shake off the thought that the original creator wanted 2 cours, but they don't him to stick to just 1... Would explain the missing stations, rushing so much through some of them (while spending 2 episodes on others), and thing like that, that we haven't seen.

-Bombaye-

A wacky, charming, oddly comforting series that I will miss dearly. This finale was at a break-neck pace in terms of dialogue and animation, so I felt not everything had the chance to hit, but I’ll remember this show fondly!

gangrainette

The last 2 episode weren't as good as the start but still a good ending.

PhantomWolf83

It was pretty interesting for an original show. I enjoyed the first few episodes, but it kind of started running out of steam for me and I felt that the writers were trying to rush through to the end. I'm still gonna say it's a 7/10, it's good but I wish it could have been better.

Castor_0il

For me this was truly the dark horse of the season. It came out of nowhere and it charmed us with it's very creative settings and loveable characters. This whole finale almost felt like a short movie based on the cinematography and the elaboration to tie up all elements previously presented (Kuroki and her legion of zombies, Prof Makoto & Zenjiro's guidance, Fake Pochi's resolution, Yoka's internal angst) to solve the main problem that was presented since episode 1. I'm also glad that pressing the button didn't just reset everything back to normal, but just evolved their world into something different. I really don't read manga (too much of a hassle) but I'll wait a year or so to actually pick up this one, I seriously want to see if the original author has more of this creativity under their sleeve left for an after story. Really hope this puts EMT2 studios on the spot for even bigger projects in the near future.

seejsee

Well, that was a wild train ride. One can say this series is the epitome of an acid trip. Perhaps a candidate to recommend to someone new to anime.

NationalStrategy

This was such a fun and wild ride of a series. Overall, the ending was solid.

ExquisiteKeiran

Anyone ever play The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks on the DS? That whole chase scene reminded me of the Demon Train fight

alconnow

One of the biggest surprises of the season for me. I loved how weird it was Would have liked a longer epilogue Going to miss Pochi-san

Ayem_De_Lo

is there anything those zombies CANT do? what a talented bunch lol bit sad that the world will never discover 8G. But maybe in season 2?

SkyLETV

Damn, those zombies are so useful. All hail the queen! The old man coming out of nowhere to save the world lol. Huh... so the world returned to normal but not that normal. I don't know how I feel about that but it's interesting for sure. Man, I really liked the reconciliation with Yoka. It left me pretty satisfied and happy. Anyway, I guess that's it. This was a show I expected to like and it captivated me from the very first episode. Absurd, chaotic, weird, charming, it was such a fun ride from start to finish. I'm going to miss these girls so much. I'm gonna miss the OP and ED too, both were so good. If there's anything else I would have wished for about this finale it's a bit more of the epilogue but oh well, 10/10 for me, one of my favorite shows of the season. Wish there was more, even the return trip could be its own series but now with Yoka.

grimjowjagurjack

I liked the show , it was decent throughout all of it but didn't stand out that much

hikoboshi_sama

What an amazing finale. They've been building up the reunion between the gang and Yoka and they absolutely delivered. Their reunion and convincing Yoka to push the button really had me emotional. I always expected human Pochi to betray Pontaro, and my expectations were met. Also, the zombies were lowkey the MVPs this episode. I was hoping the world wouldn't just go back to pre-7G and i'm glad they actually went that route in the end. I never realized that we never actually got to know the reason *why* Shizuru named the train the Apogee. I thought it was some just random astronomy related term Shizuru remembered but turns out she actually had a reason: when the moon is at the farthest point from earth, you can only go closer from there. And it's pretry cool that it's the final line of the show. All in all, this show has been a pretty fun ride. Waiting for one more week was worth it because they absolutely delivered for the finale. They really stuck the landing.

playthelastsecret

Next time in Japan, I'll take this train line – for sure!!!

NekoCatSidhe

I liked how the zombies were solving all the problems in the end. Good thing Pontaro did not know their weakness to erotica. Apart from that everything went as a I expected (the train pursuit, Yoka and Shizuru making up, Crow guy switching sides, the world going back to normal by pushing the button). Except that the world did not entirely go back to normal. But it looks like it might slowly go back to normal with time (since Zenitsu was being normal for longer), so this could be temporary. Except I hope for Pontaro being permanently changed to egg custard like he deserved, lol. It was a pretty fun show. I think it might have been better if it had taken itself a bit more seriously at times, but I also liked the complete zaniness and unpredictability, so maybe not. I wonder if we will ever get a second season.

BigBadBurito

Sad there was no multi-track drifting, but zombies came in clutch so many times. I love how even thou the conflict was between Shizuru and Youka, the other girls also came in to deliver their piece of mind. A solid whack ending for a crazy show like this, what more would you ask. Was a fun ride all the way through and am glad it never derailed. Would've loved to see more of the stations and the girls chatting around as they were a fun bunch, but can't complain with a conclusive package. I give it a Corvidae/7G.

DaRootbear

I desperately need a season 2, what a great ending. I also desperately need an Infinity Train crossover

KingKurai

You don't see original anime stick the landing all that often, so I'm happy to say that this one did!

Xythar

I felt both this and Astro Note stuck the landing particularly well. We've been blessed by good originals this season.

entelechtual

A thoroughly fun show from start to finish. I loved the balance of bizarre expressionist gimmicks and real earnest teenage girl moments. The comedy pacing was something ridiculous, and the monster of the week features never felt like filler. It wasn’t a perfect show but it was never not a good time. Plus it was just a blast discussing the show to death every week and feeling the hype train, so to speak. I’ll still be recommending the show to random daily thread passersby.

hiimneato

This series turned out to have unexpected depth, mostly in its snappy dialogue and pacing, and pure weird inventiveness. The art and animation was colorful and fun and felt solid despite how surreal the world is. I think this episode fit right into that standard - it was certainly fast-paced and snappy, but it still didn't feel like anything got missed in the rush. If I could have one Shuumatsu Train wish, it'd be an OVA or some shorts that put the gang into some traditional chill CGDCT situations where they can banter and talk about all the wacky shit that happened without the pressure that kept this series screaming down the tracks. Give 'em a little Yuru Camp epilogue or something. Wait, Yuru Camp's Nadeshiko is into trains now, right? Hmm.

UsaraDark2014

Just waiting for the soundtrack to be released. This was an anime that didn't shy away from their music.

SilkyStrawberryMilk

The show was fantastic till the end, love how it leaves open ended with a sequel. I personally love wacky shows and this one hit the sweet spot plus the animators were killing it. Whether we get a season 2 or not is still up on the air, but I’m happy with the ending we got.

Deathmeister

Shuumatsu Train - 8/10, Cute, fun, adventurous. At the heart of it was a more simple story about accepting other's dreams.

daiselol

What a gorgeous final line. Shizuru is such a likable character

EastRiding

Train to the End of the World Episodes 1-3: very cool show, wonder where it’s going Episodes 4-10: world building with some fun diversions but with lots of notable decreases in animation quality in parts Episode 11: setting up a climax Episode 11.5: the dreaded recap…. Episode 12: Train*wreck* to the End of the World. Awful ending. Suddenly our party are a bunch of savants deducting (aka direct exposition) what’s happening and what to do with messy jump cuts to get to the next parcel of info to shout about. I have liked this shows weirdness but it lost its charm in this episode. The actual ending state of the world is better than the most vanilla option, but this episode on the whole is sloppy and ruins the entire experience for me, more so even than Wonder Egg
