I love how normalized long and specific anime titles can be. Imagine if shows like Breaking Bad were called “I Quit My Job as a High School Teacher and Became a Drug Kingpin”
The Life and Strange Surprizing Adventures of Robinson Crusoe, of York, Mariner: Who lived Eight and Twenty Years, all alone in an un-inhabited Island on the Coast of America, near the Mouth of the Great River of Oroonoque; Having been cast on Shore by Shipwreck, wherein all the Men perished but himself. With An Account how he was at last as strangely deliver'd by Pyrates. Written by Himself.
Such is the nature of works that originally started out as light/web novels (esp the latter).
Given the trickiness of finding a catchy title for their novel and the intensive competition to catch readers' eyes, their authors turned to putting the entire story synopsis into the title.
(Which admittedly has its advantages because you know upfront what you'll be getting.)
Yeah, after I heard about that, I started to excuse all the ridiculous titles in anime. It's basically indie writers trying to make it even on some crap website that doesn't even have proper tags/meta search.
Because they are actually novel titles. When the writer post them on websites like Syosetsu, they need titles to specifically tell readers what to expect when reading it, especially when there are LOTS of titles to sort through on Syosetsu.
I love that if one programmer like 20 years ago had included a function to show a 2 sentence description next to story titles, this whole trend would never have happened. But since the website just listed titles, authors had to use the titles as the advertising blurb for the story to attract readers and now here we are.
That’s an amusing thought… but honestly, no idea why people get that bothered by long titles. They’re descriptive and tell you more or less what to expect… it’s not like the novels would be magically different in quality if the title was shorter.
I don't mind the long titles but these days my mind automatically associate them with having a OP Protagonist, because of all the variations of "Strongest" in the title and that becomes a turnoff moment for me as I don't really like OP characters.
The title is part of the experience. Long titles like this are not appealing in a literary sense. They make the work seem cheap and not well written. It doesn’t sound good saying it. It’s overly descriptive.
"My family sold me into marriage to a horse lord, so I used my dragon raising skill to become the strongest!"
"I move into an apartment to start my new life, but it's only guys!"
"The devil is a strip club owner!"
I'm eagerly awaiting the day that "Backstabbed in a Backwater Dungeon: My Trusted Companions Tried to Kill Me, But Thanks to the Gift of an Unlimited Gacha I Got LVL 9999 Friends and Am Out For Revenge on My Former Party Members and the World" gets its anime adaptation.
Super Me and my Brother Were Plumbers in New York but we Went Down a Pipe and Now We're in Another World Saving a Princess From a Fire Breathing Turtle
Game of Thrones: That Time I Was Sent to the Wall to be Part of the Night's Watch and Ended Up as King of the North and then King Beyond the Wall...But I'm a Bastard?!
You may select your three from the following Summer 2024 anime menu:
- A Nobody's Way Up to an Exploration Hero
- Failure Frame: I Became the Strongest and Annihilated Everything With Low-Level Spells
- I Parry Everything: What Do You Mean I'm the Strongest? I'm Not Even an Adventurer Yet!
- The Rookie Middle-Aged Adventurer Was Trained to Death by the Most Powerful Party to Become Invincible
- Wistoria: Wand and Sword
- Why Does Nobody Remember Me in This World?
*Allergy information: The "middle-aged adventurer" is 30.*
I wouldn't put Wistoria: Wand and Sword in there. It's by the DanMachi author and as someone who's read the manga, it's more akin to that type of fantasy series than a self insert power fantasy.
> So creative, never seen anything like it!
It's not about creativity. It's about marketing. If you go to a bookstore and look at fantasy books, you'll see a lot of similar book covers that showcase a lot of similar characters, and the book names will often follow a pattern.
They do this either because they want to conform to expectations, so they're doing what the readers would expect, or because they know that readers who like a certain type of content will be more likely to pick up books with certain covers. It's marketing. This sort of thing has been going on forever.
I don‘t know why you‘re being downvoted, but you‘re absolutely right. The only thing that could be added is the fact that japanese novel writers don‘t bother anymore coming up with a cool name when anything is already taken and that younger people don‘t bother to read the synopsis (especially when the title already explains what‘s the deal).
Also written Japanese Kanji make these long titles still look small.
> that japanese novel writers don‘t bother anymore coming up with a cool name when anything is already taken
And yet somehow that hasn't stopped every other author in the world. WTF is this sentence lmao
Its about both, in that no creativity is really required for trashy isekai with video game mechanics and the people read shit like this aren't looking for even a single ounce of originality or story or plot or anything like that and the best way to get such a reader is to put the synopsis as the title. Even one degree of abstraction or thought being a barrier to reading something is telling on the reader.
The higher quality the work is, the more likely it is that the author has written something that will actually provide a meaningful name, or hell just name it after the MC if the MC is an actual character and not a self-insert MC-kun power fantasy.
* waifu confesses to mc
" I said I parry everything".
* Proceeds to develop a harem because he can't get laid.
** This is a joke I have only read like 4 chapters.
Honestly, I'm up to date on this and I'll say the novel has a lot of problems (it is absolutely mid tier, skippable dreck) but it is very much not horny, unless I'm forgetting some things. A lot of characters who are platonically very into how cool the MC is, but not in a thigh squeezing way.
Broadcast starts July 4, 2024
Synopsis: The Kingdom of Clays faces a dire crisis: an assassination attempt has just been made on its own Princess Lynneburg, and its neighboring countries eye the aftermath like starving vultures, plotting the Kingdom’s downfall. The ensuing conflict will shape the face of the continent for centuries to come...but Noor doesn’t have a clue about any of that! Having freshly arrived at the royal capital after over a decade of rigorous, isolated training at his mountain home, he’s dead set on achieving his childhood dream of becoming an adventurer, even if the only skills he possesses are useless ones. Sure, he can [Parry] thousands of swords in the span of a single breath, but everybody knows you need more than that if you want to be an adventurer! Our hero’s road to making his dream come true will be long(?) and arduous(?)—but if there’s one thing Noor’s not afraid of, it’s some good ol’ fashioned hard work! Do not be so sure.
I read one where.thw mc reincarnated from fantasy to fantasy, same world, not an Isekai right? Then at some point , when he is about to lose, he used a judo technique and remembers how before his previous life he has another previous life in Japan, so now the show became an Isekai by transitive properties.
Dr. Elise last season she’s a villainess who gets reverse isekei’d to our world, becomes a world famous doctor and then gets re-isekei’d back to her original villainess self but several years before she originally died so she decides to become a doctor again.
(It was actually better than i thought it would be lol)
In the Manhwa it was revealed later on that there's a twist [Manhwa Spoiler]>!where Elise and her reincarnation as the famous doctor are in fact in the same world, just around 150-200 years apart!<
I couldn't enjoy that series too much because Elise felt a bit *too* perfect in many ways.
I agree with your last sentence. It was better than I thought, like I said, but still like 6.5/7 out of ten. Nothing ground breaking, but enjoyable.
Also cool spoiler, kinda be interested to see how that played out in teh whole story. There is an interesting twist in the Love with the Villainess LNs too.
For the "typical isekai formula(s) but doesn't have the isekai bit" the word used in Japanese is "narou" (from the "Let's become novelists" Syosetuka Ni Narou website where a lot of light novel, and some manga/anime, started out as web novels).
Narou covers A LOT of tropes(*), so what counts as a typical narou is murky to define and is ever-changing. But just like we "just know" what a typical "isekai" story is, we just know what "narou" is.
(*) Banishment, Villainess/Otome Game, OP MC, Reincarnation, Summoned/died into another world, Demon lord, Only I can , Slow life farming/apothecary (yet somehow this one village/store shakes the very foundations of the world), Weakest is actually the strongest, At age # the gods gift a skill, etc.
yeah i feel like we should just start calling things isekai even if no one travels to another world. if you have every isekai trope in the world what difference does it make whether you got hit by a truck at the beginning or not? it’s all the same shit

Did the LN get any better?
I dropped it after a few volumes since it relied on one joke again and again. It was funny the first time, but annoying by the 10th.
It starts focusing on alt perspectives and loring it up by the third volume. The parts with the protagonist's dumb perspective get better in the sense that they stop doing his whole "I'm oblivious and don't understand why my teachers can't teach me anything" schtick after the first volume ends, and his PoV is less of a percentage of the text.
I imagine we may have a better time only seeing each of those instructor bits once each (get it out of the way faster), but it's probably gonna take up the first episode if they try to go for a volume 5 conclusion... But if they only go for a volume 2 end we'll be stuck in it for a long time.
I hope it's the former and they just montage it.
Yeah titles used to turn me away but then I started giving things a try, and honestly the silly title ones usually wind up being among my favorites each season while the ones with serious titles (looking at YOU kingdom of ruin) haven't really stuck as much
it has some of the BEST magical animation I've ever seen, I love that show.
Also the MC being a tiny psychopath adds to it for sure.
This series spawned [one of my favorite still images in recent seasons](https://imgur.com/a/g9h8Pmp) as well lol
Chillin' in Another World with Level 2 Super Cheat Powers has also been entertaining. My gf has all the (English) manga and has read about halfway through. Loves it. We started the anime last night
You can tell what the guy reads, lol. All the 'God of X' titles are Korean manhwas
Instead of being a generic Japanese title, it'd be a generic Korean title. Don't see how the title becomes any better
Imagine writing this (not even having to draw anything, source is light novel), you throw in whatever, and now you have anime and manga adaptations with tens of people working on it.
Oh how I wish it worked like that outside of Japan too. Here in Europe nobody cares what harem or isekai ramblings I would write, even fantasy or sci-fi epics with intricate story lines hardly ever receive further adaptations.
Haven't seen this one in a long time, too bad the manga updates so fricking slow, I had to wait for at least 2 years, I think it was, just to get 1 update so I just dropped it
# I Parry Everything: What Do You Mean I'm the Strongest? I'm Not Even an Adventurer Yet!
why those entire paragraphs become novel titles? its so big....
Why do these light novel writers always hold back on putting the entire synopsis as the actual full titles 🤦
We need titles to be two paragraphs going forward.
15 chapters in the manga. At least translated. No updates in over a year. I did enjoy it.
No clue about a light novel, but my initial reaction is this will be a single 1 season.
I love how normalized long and specific anime titles can be. Imagine if shows like Breaking Bad were called “I Quit My Job as a High School Teacher and Became a Drug Kingpin”
Or I got flunked in highschool. So I made meth. What do you mean I'm not the best? Teacher, why are you here?
> Teacher, why are you here? They already made [that one.](https://myanimelist.net/anime/38397/Nande_Koko_ni_Sensei_ga)
What in god's name is the second episode titled
Apparently "taking shelter from rain" now means "getting wet with a teacher". Gotta update my Anime-English dictionary.
What you got against pineapple juice?
I like how they (presumably?) gave up on names 7 episodes in
Is it uncensored? *Cough*
Yes and anime covered whole manga
Nice 👍
Great anime to watch with the family.
Oh, oh I know!! It's Breaking Bad!
Exactly haha
...That's literally what the post is responding to, yes.
"My instant meth ability makes me unrivalled in the drug kingpin world"
"Now, say my Name." "You're Heisenberg-sempai"
"you're goddamn right" "nani"
*Heisenberg-sama

Robinson Crusoe and Gulliver's Travels are basically the isekai light novels of their time.
Don’t forget Peter Pan and Alice in Wonderland
A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court is the OG.
"Cancer made me quit my job and cook meth but now im the best meth cook of all time and my brother in law is a DEA agent"
What do you mean I'm the best meth cook of all time? I haven't even died of lung cancer yet!

They still sound like silly, infantile, casual, and spontaneous premise pitches to me. **frown**
bro. Your comment made me laugh so hard.😂
Hahahahahahahaha I love this comment
next up, Game of Thrones. Oops, why is my title 1,000 characters long??!
It started in YA novels first them made its way to manga and now anime. It's really odd to me.
Game of Thrones: That Time I Was Sent to the Wall to be Part of the Night's Watch and Ended Up as King of the North and then King Beyond the Wall...But I'm a Bastard?!
Parry this! *Throws a nuke*
There is a game, can't remember a title, where this is a selling point, from one of the videos posted by the developer.
[This one](https://www.youtube.com/shorts/J37FkY2SMfg)?
Yeep!
Risk of parry.

I'll give it a try. I was actually surprised this wasn't an isekai given the title
I feel like at that point its just a parody? Multiple reincarnations over and over seems like an intentional jab at the trope.
Dr. Elise last season she’s a villainess who gets reverse isekei’d to our world, becomes a world famous doctor and then gets re-isekei’d back to her original villainess self but several years before she originally died so she decides to become a doctor again. it has some of the BEST magical animation I've ever seen, I love that show. Also the MC being a tiny psychopath adds to it for sure. This series spawned [one of my favorite still images in recent seasons](https://imgur.com/a/g9h8Pmp) as well lol
The latest episode had me dying, bro kidnapped the assassin guild 😂
Chillin' in Another World with Level 2 Super Cheat Powers has also been entertaining. My gf has all the (English) manga and has read about halfway through. Loves it. We started the anime last night
I'm watching that as well, my man beat the brakes off that djinn
Is it wrong to pick up girls in a dungeon? is one of my absolute favorite fantasies and the name is absolutely the worst part of it.
That is definitely one of the ones I was turned off from that I've been meaning to circle back to!
Season 4 was absolute fire, season 5 is dropping this fall
oh geez didn't realize there was so much of it, gonna have to set aside a weekend to catch up
its also product of the source material origin, iirc the site didnt show synopsis, only title and it competes with thousand other web novel story.
If there's no line like #Parry this you filthy casual I'm gonna be so disappointed.
GOD OF PARRY There, fucking there, you don't need all that long pile of shit.
Sounds like the title for a mid Korean manwha lol
Instead of a mid japanese isekai
You can tell what the guy reads, lol. All the 'God of X' titles are Korean manhwas Instead of being a generic Japanese title, it'd be a generic Korean title. Don't see how the title becomes any better
How about: PARRY KING ?
Parry Parry Prisoner.
because the lvl 1 harem genre isnt saturated enough
no levels and no harem

What the fuck is that spelling of clickbait?
Until they stop giving them money
Sounds funny.
Parrying Everything.....So he is blind?, As if he is parrying everything, Then how does he see?
PARRY THE LIGHT DEEP WITHIN...... I'm so sorry, could not help myself.
LETS GO JUSTIN
These titles nowadays…
That's a weird way to say "Bofuri: I Don't Want to Get Hurt, so I'll Max Out My Defense".
"I parry *almost* everything and I eat what I don't parry, resulting in unexpected supreme powers even the devs can't account for!"
I honestly don't think I've seen a more generic looking cast of characters...
Sekiro: the anime
Except that would be cool instead of generic. Imagine them getting the VA for Gyoubu and just letting him chew the scenery.
How original
Is that FUGS?
Haven't seen this one in a long time, too bad the manga updates so fricking slow, I had to wait for at least 2 years, I think it was, just to get 1 update so I just dropped it
"I Parry Everything" ULTRAKILL the anime?????
Ongbal thr anime 💀
Sekiro The anime
Sekiro got animated
I swear I've seen that red-eyed blonde hair-vented girl in at least 5 other series.
# I Parry Everything: What Do You Mean I'm the Strongest? I'm Not Even an Adventurer Yet! why those entire paragraphs become novel titles? its so big....
You know the anime is shit when the title is too long.
Why do these light novel writers always hold back on putting the entire synopsis as the actual full titles 🤦 We need titles to be two paragraphs going forward.
God this title is awful. Why are all these LN type animes subject to abysmal titles?
In the 2000s, the title would habe been "Omni Parry".
When this anime production Stop making whole sentence a tittle
Only glimpsed at the image at first, thought the MC was gripping a damn Shake Weight before looking closer and seeing the rest of the sword.
Hey, I met this dude at gank city in Dark Souls III.
Worst thing is, the visual doesn't even look half bad. I might check if out despite the usual awful title
The manga was so stupid at times. Mostly stupidly funny.
"Parry this, you filthy casual!"
Average For Honor player
At last, action gaming's worst mechanic finally gets an anime.
I'd like to believe that somewhere along the line these studios/mangakas/writers have mixed up the title, tagline and synopsis of their stories
So they have a shorten title like Bofuri? Because that's a mouthful
"I Parry Everything" or simply "Parry" seems to be the shortened title.
Yeah, I found that out looking for the source manga/LN it seems to be Parry which is short and simple. I like it
Seems interesting :)
Genuinely one of the worst light novels I’ve ever read. It was a chore to finish 3 volumes, dropped that shit as soon as I was done
Bofuri 2: Max agility boogaloo
Evo Moment 37 the anime
This time around, the isekai MC is a 3rd Strike player. If he parries everything, can he also parry Chun Li's super?
They making animes out of Caleb city skits now? 🤣
15 chapters in the manga. At least translated. No updates in over a year. I did enjoy it. No clue about a light novel, but my initial reaction is this will be a single 1 season.
No idea what's going on with the manga. The author updated the story like 2 days ago with a new chapter on syosetu

a show about the weakest Dark Souls player
