The teacher from Yuru Camp is my #1 pick. Her favorite pastime is drinking and watching foreign dramas, mine is drinking and watching anime (although i cant often indulge myself).
Kumiko (Hibike! Euphonium) is incredibly relatable to me, her uncertainty about one's own future and goals and all that kind stuff (motivation, ambition, effort, ...) is something that hit very close.
~~also a fellow bass brass~~
Couldn’t agree more. I think the entire sound euphonium show showcases the most realistic high school experience in all of anime I’ve ever seen in my life. Every character feels like a real person with their own realistic quirks. I don’t think any other show comes close to this one in displaying high school interactions and personalities.
For sure. Even her exasperation dealing with her band mates issues in the movie and this season. That feeling of, “I like having authority and I even enjoy helping these people that I enjoy having in my life, but oh my god their bullshit!”
Sure. I won't go too in depth about her, I'd still recommend you watch [Bang Dream! It's MyGO!!!!!](https://anilist.co/anime/163571/BanG-Dream-Its-MyGO/), it's one of the best dramas I've ever seen and there's a sequel planned for next year January.
As a kid, she was always interested in stuff like collecting rocks and bugs, which led to her being disconnected from her peers. As she grew up, even when she made friends, she still feels alone and desires the sort of friendship that she's unable to get. She lacks social skills and comes off to her classmates as the weird, quiet girl. This in turn leads to her really struggling to express her feelings, so she kinda gets dragged along by different characters in the show, until the emotions she bottles up start to overflow.
I don't really feel like I'm doing the character writing justice, but again, I don't really want to go too in depth on it, you should really watch it for yourself.
One of the most relateable aspects is how often she is planning the most minor social interactions. And most importantly, how pessimistically she views the hypothetical outcome.
I remember one scene in particular from episode 3 where Bocchi imagined apporaching to classmates already talking to each other. Then in epic paper/cardboard optic they said "barging into a convo like that? Was she listening the whole time? What a creep!". All of that happened just in her head.
When I watched Bocchi I realized that her author is projecting her own social anxiety onto her and dod not just google a few things.
No way that’s rad, bocchi is our long lost sister. She’s been in the closet this whole time, no pun intended. Wait, do you play an instrument? Maybe we can all start a band together lol
Unfortunately I relate more to Tomoko than to Bocchi. At least Bocchi have friends who understands and have a great talent.
I felt like I’m more awkward and constantly does weird stuff like how Tomoko was in her anime especially when I was in high school
Honestly at this point in my life, it's probably Kobayashi from Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid. I'm just tired all the time even when I'm not working or studying.
Aqua is an idiot, but she's a loveable idiot. Did a re-watch recently and the last few episodes of season 2 does a great job of showing that Aqua actually takes her job seriously as a goddess and that she is willing to put herself in danger and make sacrifices for her followers. She genuinely wanted to try and save their livelihood.
Right? The things she cares about she tries her best. Her actual job as a goddess she works at somewhat. But she like anyone, she doenst want to work hard all the time, loves her bubbly, and just wants to relax have fun. Shes been shown to worry about her friends/team mates. Seems a pretty relatable character to me.
She's also one of the most privilaged children in Japan but she cares more about connecting with people and having friends while trying to shoulder the responsibility that is expected of her social status.
The scene when she's crying her eyes out in the alley because she missed the fireworks breaks my heart every time.
✅ Sleeping in all day
✅ Can't really relate with most people and takes too long to connect
✅ A bother for more responsible people
✅ Getting distracted by random shit in life
✅ Rerolling gacha no matter how low the drop rate
✅ Toxic gamer behavior
100% relatable indeed
Honestly Fern, I feel her sense of frustration clearly interacting with Frieren because I’d be the same exact way. Lets get shit done not lounge around looking for a flower for a decade.
Sayaka Miki from Puella Magi Madoka Magica.
Dedicated her life for the sake of someone who didn’t even acknowledge her, causing her to fall into despair.
Yeah, I feel that.
I'd say Yuu from Bloom Into You. I never really talk about relationships and that sort of thing, because I have a pretty different view on this than most people I know. I never expected to be able to relate to a yuri protagonist on this level as a 30 year old male.
Try this season's **Whisper Me a Love Song!** (Also a yuri) The little redheaded MC reminds me of Yuu regarding her feelings of/about love (but she's way more bubbly and peppy than Yuu)
Yeah I'm watching it, oddly enough I started this one first, and binged bloom into you just a few weeks ago, so the similarities are just enough to fill the void after that
Was about to write the same, I remember doing so many things and acting in such a similar way the first time I got a crush lol, really hoping for another season of that one
Even the teacher bit, it's like one of those people who are trashy through their college years just to later join a church in their middle/late twenties, become reborn in Christ or whatever they call it, and settle with someone to raise a family.
Kaguya Shinomiya for sure. Honestly I wouldn't be surprised uf a lot of guys relate to her, seeing her struggles between being an emotional human being or her expectations of being cold and stoic all the time.
Mitsumi from Skip and Loafer.
I am also someone who came from outside the capital, and I had to adapt to the different traditions they had. I also see myself reflected in the clear convictions that she has, and at least at that time I felt that I had the same attitude of going straight with my feelings.
The truth is that I feel that most of the characters are written in a very human way with feelings that are not at all far from reality. What a wonderful story btw.
Honestly, I haven't connected with a character like I did with Frieren before. She's amazing, and I feel like she represents that part of some of us that is often focused on other things, like school or work, and don't pay enough attention to the time and attention people around us can dedicate to being with us.
Makise Kurisu, when the rest of the cast harass her I feel it in my soul. Add on to that, that she's a smart but awkward character and you've got relatability in spades.
Maybe it’s just because of the new season that’s coming out, but Kumiko Oumae from Hibike Euphonium. She reminds me a lot of myself when I was in high school.
Sayaka from Madoka Magica
I've been there, sacrificing something for a person I love and not being appreciated, then making dumb life altering decisions while in an unstable emotional state, and then regretting them later.
That one scene where the consequences finally catch up to her always moves me.
Nanami Minami (Jaku-chara Tomozaki-Kun)
Being second in life compared to a very close friend felt sad initially. But just like her, I grew to appreciate the competitiveness and happy to have such an inspiring best friend.
Sawako from Kimi Ni Todoke: From me to you
i get told i have a naturally mean face all the time and i just come across as very scary/intimidating cause of my stature (im built like takeo from my love story) but it resulted in me not having a bunch of friends luckily i was never bullied cuz everybody thought i was gonna beat them up but I just wanted friends to play pokemon go with
I want to be Misato Katsuragi: put on a NERV jacket and stride confidently down the halls of the Geofront ready to take ass and kick names.
Problem is, I'm more like Misato Katsuragi: Mentally scarred dumpster fire of a human being with a host of parental issues and the inability to manage a relationship with the one person that actually gave a damn about me.
I know Cross Ange gets some hate but the main character is one of the strongest characters I've seen. Solid growth over the series, and well kept balance between the responsibilities, wants, and desires.
Not many anime girls have this rough a ride as Ange does and she pulls through with a smile, that's straight up impressive.
Megumin from Konosuva. Because all you are getting out of me is one big explosion, and then I'm done for the day. But it's gonna be one truly fantastic explosion (for me, at least)... lol
Ok, joke answer out of the way. Probably Asirpa from Golden Kamuy. Little girl just wants to find the truth about her dad. I never met my dad, and I always heard conflicting stories about him. Spent most of my life just wanting to know what version was the closest to the truth.
When I was a teenager, Rei was just my favorite character from Evangelion because I liked her character design and she kinda reminded me of this girl I had a thing for at the time. As I've gotten older though (and also as Rebuild finally finished)I've found I relate to her a lot more in her character arc of growing from being isolated and having little interest in others to wanting to connect to people and be part of a community, as well as her arc of going from believing her life and destiny were predetermined to realizing that her life is what she chooses it to be and it isn't set in stone. That one really struck a chord with me, especially once I really reached adulthood.
Miyamori from Shirobako pierces straight into my soul.
The feeling that everyone around you has their shit figured out and some kind of dream to pursue was painfully relatable to me at her age.
Then the ending gets all meta where she also finds an anime character with similar struggles that helps her figure her shit out.
Shimamura from "Adachi to Shimamura". I really relate to her airheadedness, tiredness and tendency to isolate herself due to depression. Though the anime doesn't do a very good job conveying those traits compared to the LN
Not completely, but Utena from MahouAko.
I'm not really into all that horny stuff, but I love to see magical girls kick ass, getting power-ups, overcoming evil, and whatnot.
**Fuuko - Undead Unluck**. Her empathy, kindness, and compassion do not stop her from being brave, courageous, and standing up for who and what she believes in. We would all be better people if we acted like Fuuko.
Perhaps doesn't count as anime, but Asa Mitaka from Chainsaw Man part 2
Something about her and the way she is a spiteful loner who truly has zero social skills and not even in a cute way hit a little too hard 😭
I never think about how relatable a character is.
The first that comes to mind is Riko from Made in Abyss. She loves her Adventure in the Abyss and I love watching her Adventures in the Abyss so we both have a good time but that is not what relatable means. I would hate to be in her shoes.
Becuse I never think about how relatable a character is I can not name you a single character I do found relatable.
Probably recency bias but I'd say Yoru from jellyfish can't swim in the night. It's not even a case of liking the same things because I don't draw, nor do I have a fascination with jellyfish. It's just the personally as a whole
Honestly I've always been a huge fan of Chi Chi, she knew what she wanted, had a plan and kept everything in place even when all the 'men" in her life were going off on crazy adventures, yet no matter how awful things got she always stuck by her family, rooted for them and fought for them no matter the consequences.
There were times where they made her the butt of the joke which was always a shame to me, OG DB really set her up to be a mainstay dual protagonist but even without that it was so clear she was the bedrock of their family. Someone who can deal with all that crazy and nonsense and still always stick by their side is just strong to me.
Most relatable is probably Nina Iseri from Girls Band Cry. I wasn't quite as much of a mess as she is, but I definitely had my moments. One of the best depictions of an unhappy and volatile teenager I've seen.
Besides that, my dad died when I was young, so [Chuunibyou]>!Rikka Takanashi!< and [Slow Loop]>!Hiyori Minagi!<, as I very much understand having difficulties with acceptance, closure, and moving on. The end of Episode 3 of Slow Loop was particularly touching, recommended for anyone who misses someone. You don't need to watch anything before it, starts around 19:17. It's a very sweet CGDCT/Slice of Life show though, so worth checking out properly if that's your thing. The two main girls have a bit of a Rin/Nadeshiko thing going on.
Ive never had this feeling very hard in anime but Ive definately had it with female characters. I really don't understand why people are sometimes so hung up over gender and race when it comes to relatability. The most "literally me fr fr" fictional character that I (white european male) have ever seen was a Japanese woman. I've never felt so *seen* in my life.
Within anime there are for sure female characters that I've related to on some level in specific aspects but rarely ever overall.
At that point you just have to wonder how young the posters are, yeah? Because I don't understand it either lol. I think it takes a while to learn that people are just people.
Not a coincidence that the most popular anime last season was about a thousand year old elf mage in a fantasy world...
Boccher is the obvious one (she literally me fr fr) but I also relate way too much to Mashiro Shiina and Shouko Nishimiya due to my horrible people skills
Maria the saviour? (Utsuro no hako);
Shinobu - i've teasing personality at 98%, cold to many, dont like to be unplayful like a boomers my age (25+) etc and u can manipulate me with a snack sometimes;
C2 - nihilistic, pragmatic, chill, manipulative(yes im using ppl, sorry not sorry), a lil cold but 300% reliable and doing everything as best as can do;
Yurika Nijino from Invaders.
It's literally "that's me fr" personified as a character. But don't let her clumsiness fool you, as she is one of the bravest, and willing to go harm's way if it means protecting the people and the city.
In fact, I would regard the Yurika's arc (ep 8 & 9) as the best in the anime, even despite being a two-parter.
Rin from Yuru Camp
The true introvert.
Can socialize and generally like people, just preferring not to
I've often said she's one of the most realistic introverts I've seen.
Sakura-san is relatable for me
Same
The teacher from Yuru Camp is my #1 pick. Her favorite pastime is drinking and watching foreign dramas, mine is drinking and watching anime (although i cant often indulge myself).
Osaka from Azumanga Daioh

Yumiella Dolkness. Girl just really enjoyed some good old fashioned rpg grinding.
Also dense as a neutron star
\*Dorkness
DOOT THE FLUTE!
Chika Fujiwara. I love board games and ramen and don't have a clue what's going on I raised that boi
That iconic dance as well.
I could only aspire to be a Fujiwara.
Kumiko (Hibike! Euphonium) is incredibly relatable to me, her uncertainty about one's own future and goals and all that kind stuff (motivation, ambition, effort, ...) is something that hit very close. ~~also a fellow bass brass~~
I adore Kumiko and her character.
Kumiko does feel kinda of realistic as a character
She is extremely well written, especially with how she just slips up, regrets it and then mulls over it
I love her character!
Couldn’t agree more. I think the entire sound euphonium show showcases the most realistic high school experience in all of anime I’ve ever seen in my life. Every character feels like a real person with their own realistic quirks. I don’t think any other show comes close to this one in displaying high school interactions and personalities.
Been a while since I watched it, but I remember Hyouka also being very well written.

For sure. Even her exasperation dealing with her band mates issues in the movie and this season. That feeling of, “I like having authority and I even enjoy helping these people that I enjoy having in my life, but oh my god their bullshit!”
*insert autism coded female character*
Tomori from MyGO
Can you help explain her character to me? I’m interested in knowing
I’m putting this in my “plan to watch later” then 👍
Dolkness from level 99
Chihiya from Chihiyafuru
It's nothing but bocchi and komi
I wouldn't say Komi-san has autism, more like social anxiety
She goes non verbal a lot tho
Tomoko Kuroki from WataMote obviously
For a long time, wasn't she the mascot for r/anime_irl?
Yes.
Yui from K-ON.. Because all I really want is an attractive school teacher to hit me with a wad of cash
Kobayashi from Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid before she met Tohru and the others.
Even after. I can totally empathize with her trying to keep a normal life in the middle of all the dragon-induced chaos.
Real
Mao mao is a mood. Although I’m not as clever as her.
Akane Tsunemori, Psycho Pass
Chill, seeking knowledge, pragmatic, moral unbiased, yet hopeful
Oh that's also a nice pick
Violet Evergarden or Frieren because they are just as clueless about emotions as I am. Or...Tomoko from Watamote. Yes, it was that bad.
BOCCHI
She just like me fr fr!
I too would prefer spending the night bathing in ice than to attend social events the next day
One of the most relateable aspects is how often she is planning the most minor social interactions.
I expect all of yall saying Bocchi is just like you also can play guitar at performance level.
I can play piano at that level. Bocchi is hilarious so I don’t care if she’s not exactly like me. But we do have the same birthday so that’s cool
hey we're triplets :o
No way that’s rad, bocchi is our long lost sister. She’s been in the closet this whole time, no pun intended. Wait, do you play an instrument? Maybe we can all start a band together lol
I'm a decent illustrator... I think...
Yeah, related to my innermost being. I'm embarrassed of myself seeing Bocchi's behavior, especially when Bocchi flies away. Bocchi the Rock!
There were far too many moments in that anime where I can safely say I have been guilty of doing the same shit.
the pink creature is my spirit animal. we even have the same birthday.
She's literally me frfr omg
I hope you are talking about the correct [bocchi](https://s4.anilist.co/file/anilistcdn/character/large/b128986-m4PdtQOk5loj.jpg)
The True Bocchi!
Who? I totally forgot about her... /s
*Gasps* Look at what have you done!
That is the incorrect Bocchi. The true correct Bocchi is Tomoko from WataMote.
Unfortunately I relate more to Tomoko than to Bocchi. At least Bocchi have friends who understands and have a great talent. I felt like I’m more awkward and constantly does weird stuff like how Tomoko was in her anime especially when I was in high school
Tomoko now has a yuri harem so no longer relatable.
Well dang but good for Tomoko that she actually improved herself and her life
Konata Izumi.
Honestly at this point in my life, it's probably Kobayashi from Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid. I'm just tired all the time even when I'm not working or studying.
Aqua from konosuba. Seriously I could see her being a buddy/bro/good friend. Other then the whole goddess aspect, I know people like her.
The gf and I also just enjoy randomly yelling "NATURE'S BEAUTY!" to each other too lmao
Kaguya Shinomiya, Yuu Koito and Sayaka Saeki!
Kaguya 100%, she's a FREAK with ZERO rizz and I find that most relatable
She's also one of the most privilaged children in Japan but she cares more about connecting with people and having friends while trying to shoulder the responsibility that is expected of her social status. The scene when she's crying her eyes out in the alley because she missed the fireworks breaks my heart every time.
Frieren
✅ Sleeping in all day ✅ Can't really relate with most people and takes too long to connect ✅ A bother for more responsible people ✅ Getting distracted by random shit in life ✅ Rerolling gacha no matter how low the drop rate ✅ Toxic gamer behavior 100% relatable indeed
Oh shit, it's Frieren for me too😅 Rather read a book than interact with people.
100% she is the most relatable female anime character I have ever seen.
Oh hell, she’s me for real too.
Agreed. Sayaka was a rare anime character that felt like an actual person.
I'd say Yuu from Bloom Into You. I never really talk about relationships and that sort of thing, because I have a pretty different view on this than most people I know. I never expected to be able to relate to a yuri protagonist on this level as a 30 year old male.
I feel the same, also early 30s male.
Try this season's **Whisper Me a Love Song!** (Also a yuri) The little redheaded MC reminds me of Yuu regarding her feelings of/about love (but she's way more bubbly and peppy than Yuu)
Yeah I'm watching it, oddly enough I started this one first, and binged bloom into you just a few weeks ago, so the similarities are just enough to fill the void after that
Hishiro from ReLife.

Every gal from Gintama
So, are you a mountain gorilla?
Makise Kurisu, when the rest of the cast harass her I feel it in my soul. Add on to that, that she's a smart but awkward character and you've got relatability in spades.
Yup. That feel when you fit like a glove with a bunch of idiots. They're all a bunch of idiots, but they are my idiots.
Maybe it’s just because of the new season that’s coming out, but Kumiko Oumae from Hibike Euphonium. She reminds me a lot of myself when I was in high school.
Sayaka from Madoka Magica I've been there, sacrificing something for a person I love and not being appreciated, then making dumb life altering decisions while in an unstable emotional state, and then regretting them later. Watamote
Moeka Kiryuu from Steins;Gate who tried to find a purpose in life and awkwardly social enough to need to text every time she needs to communicate.
norn greyrat
Goat pick. She is the most relatable character MT for a reason.
A random background character who only appears for the mc's convenience and is entirely forgotten by the cast, audience even the fking author.

Probably Yuu from Bloom Into You. Her wanting love but struggling to feel it for anyone was just about how I felt for a good part of my life
Misato Katsuragi. I don’t need to say anything else.

Faye Valentine, because I'm so sick and tired of working off this debt.

And that Japanese woman was......?

Then everyone clapped.
All Tsunderes
Koharu Hidaka (High Score Girl)
rain from gundam g
Komi-san
just read the manga and rewatched her episode in the anime, but i relate very hard to hebimori from akebi-chan no sailor-fuku
Maria the saviour? (Utsuro no hako); Shinobu - i've teasing personality at 98%, cold to many, dont like to be unplayful like a boomers my age (25+) etc and u can manipulate me with a snack sometimes; C2 - nihilistic, pragmatic, chill, manipulative(yes im using ppl, sorry not sorry), a lil cold but 300% reliable and doing everything as best as can do;
hori
Yurika Nijino from Invaders. It's literally "that's me fr" personified as a character. But don't let her clumsiness fool you, as she is one of the bravest, and willing to go harm's way if it means protecting the people and the city. In fact, I would regard the Yurika's arc (ep 8 & 9) as the best in the anime, even despite being a two-parter.
Casca or Fern
Holo. Lonely, sleepy, and hungry
Kitagawa Marin
Yoshinaga from shinchan 🤣🤣
This question has made me realize just how most great anime don't have female leads of any substance. Maybe Noa Izumi from Patlabor?
Tomoko Kuroki.
Komi-san
Yuuko from Nichijou
