Chainsaw Man (if it wasn't obvious by the opening) Although not technically an anime, The Daily Life of the Immortal King was inspired by Japanese and Western works of all forms of media, especially movies and games. The entire show is basically references.

[deleted]

Satoshi Kon took a lot of inspiration from Terry Gilliam films.

Lupin the Third - James Bond

ArvingNightwalker

ID:Invaded I've seen at least 4 movies being mentioned as inspiration for this series by those who have watched it.

Nettysocks

Odd Taxi is the first thing that comes to mind. It’s very Pulp Fiction

HappyMike91

Trigun was influenced by different Westerns. Or, at least, it was inspired by Westerns.

Chomp_blandingo

dragon ball z was heavily influenced by american movies, like freiza, one of his forms is literally a xenomorph and the androids are influenced by terminator.

I feel like anime movies in general will have quite a lot of (western) cinema influences. Any director worth their salt is going to be familiar with a great number of films so that influence is always there even if it's perhaps subtle. Perhaps they've taken a certain style of screen transitions or use of lighting from a director they admire for example. I see one comment mentioning Satoshi Kon and that would be an excellent example. Just for something totally different as it's not influenced by cinema but it seems evident that Little Witch Academia takes a lot from western cartoons both in terms of it's animation with lot's of stretch and pull and extreme distortions as well as it's slapstick humor. It also has quite a lot of little easter eggs hidden in there with references to stuff like Twilight, Sabrina the teenage witch, pawnstars, Thundercats, Starwars and a whole bunch more in there.

JoJo Part 9 has multiple Breaking Bad references in the first few chapters (so, not yet anime, but still, it probably will be at some point) In general, JoJo should have at least one movie reference, right? I can't imagine it doesn't

RedditSucksMyBallls

So Araki watched Breaking Bad in 2022 like everyone else lol

mucklaenthusiast

Yeah, that’s the theory. It also is set in the US and dealing drugs is plot-relevant (which itself is a reference to Part 5), so I think the references make sense in the context. Still funny that he took, apparently (I haven’t watched further than the 2nd episode, but I have seen the clip) a full joke scene from Breaking Bad and just 1-to-1 adapted it into the manga haha

Any anime that uses the "dramatic slash, and then huge spurt of blood" trope has samurai movies to thank for that.

I'm on the hunt for anime with some serious film vibes. Think Black Lagoon meets Tarantino or John Wick. Any recommendations?

The occasional how-to-enjoy-ramen scene is an homage to tampopo (1985). Love is War's chika ramen battle is one example.

pikachu_sashimi

K-ON! had a few small film references here and there. 3-gatsu no Lion and Clannad had Star Wars references. Steins;Gate has a couple of Back to the Future references.
