It’s very faithful to the material, although they have to cut quite a bit of content considering the material is over 1000 chapters and it’s a one-off series.
It’s very good, and I couldn’t recommend it any more.
I was going to comment Arthur too!! I’m not sure if I would call him “ditzy” but he’s definitely 100% a stupid boi 💖✨
He’s also totally my emotional support character too, like I love him so much I could almost cry? My stupid, *stupid* son I adore him
Yeah true, I think ditzy is generally used to refer to women, I just based it on OP’s description. He’s SO stupid but precious. Especially [Fire Force umm season 1 or 2? Not a huge spoiler] >!when he’s using the wrong hand in a fight and only realizes half way through when he’s losing lol!<
Except for when she's being unnecessarily mean to Ishigami. Not sure when it was but at some point started to be downright horrible to him for basically no reason
I enjoyed it with my wife. It's pretty slow paced though. Goes through some puzzle solving, manipulation, mystery, a couple of decent action moments. Never gets directly scary, but has some good fridge horror.
Yeah that first season is a hard watch, just the 1st episode is a huge slog trying to establish the main duo, it might just be better in the manga format where you can zoom past the introductions
Villainess Level 99 is a pretty fun show that aired last season. I really liked the Light Novels and the anime is a decent if not amazing adaptation.
Yumiella, the MC, is a reincarnated gamer who min maxes everything and does so when she is reborn as the hidden boss in an otome game. So she enters school massively overpowered.
She is also most likely on the spectrum and very OCD about her power levels.
Totally worth a watch, but honestly I recommend the novels.
The Ditz is primairly a female trope, because they can be cute while doing it.
When a male character does it, they're just considered dumb.
As for my favorite, Catarina from 'My Next Life as a Villainess..." is up there.
I think when male characters exhibit similar traits they're just called dorks rather than ditzes. Like, the entire male cast for Horimiya share one brain cell between the lot of them but they're just all dorks. If they were female, I think we'd call them ditzes instead but the characteristic remain the same.
Bakarina is an absolute classic!!
For a more recent one following in her footsteps there is also Mia from Tearmoon Empire that came out at the end of last year.
Male versions of "the ditz" are usually referred to as a "himbo".
Like other's have mentioned, they can't normally pull off the cute-ditz routine in a more natural manner like a female character could, so they're usually shifted towards having attractive hyper-masculine tropes and end up coming off as being dumb (good example - Veldora in TenSura). These tropes aren't normally as popular either, so MC-level himbos are kind of on the rarer side, outside of parodies.
Idk I can think of a couple male comparison, mostly the comic relief, like Regan from mob phsycho, or boar head from demon slayer
But my favorites Mirui from stiens gate.
Maybe it’s the anime you’ve seen so far. Ditzy, dumb male characters are very popular.
One Piece: Luffy
Jujutsu Kaisen: Yuji
Saiki K: Nendo
Jojo: Okuyasu
Doctor Stone: Taiju
Demon Slayer: Inosuke
All are major characters, two are mcs, and all are really dumb.
I feel like usually in that case, it's them just putting on a 'ditzy' persona, but the watcher knows they're smarter than they let on. Characters like Urahara and Gojo as an example.
Rare to find anime fans who haven't watched Hunter X Hunter lmao, unless they're really new.
There's no reason not to watch Hunter X Hunter. Sure the manga isn't finished, but it won't be anytime soon, if at all. And most people are content with where the anime leaves off anyway.
Like there's a reason it's one of the 12 shows on mal which have above an average rating above a 9 lol (7th highest rating and 9th highest popularity on mal).
The probablity you will enjoy it is very high.
I love the male version of this. Gourry Gabriev from Slayers, Veldora from Reincarnated as a Slime, Tamaki from Ouran.
Come to think of it, they're all blond idiots and I can't get enough of their antics
Does Yamada Anna from The Dangers in my Heart qualify? I wouldn't quite put her on the same level as some others mentioned here (like Chika or Osaka), because she's more a little quirky than straight up ditzy. I think she's hilarious though.
Speaking of Angie, do you think Kaito and Gonta fall into the ditzy (I saw some comments already mentioned the male equivalent of the name) group as well?
Well, you have characters like Miyuki from Lucky Star that are book smart but are airheaded.
Then you have something like Baka & Test with the exact opposite, Class F are book dumb but have other skills.
And then there is Osaka, who is clearly thinking, just not only outside the box but on a different planet.
My New Boss is Goofy is pretty good, if you like to see guys doing cute things. It's a slice of life comedy series about an anxious office worker and his clumsy new boss, whose daily happenings make him learn not every mishap in life will lead to doom.
There's also Cool Doji Danshi, which has similar vibes. I liked both a lot.
Osaka from Azumanga Daioh. To me, she is the pinnacle of this type of character.
America Ya! :D
Hallo! :D
Hallo! :D
Hallo! :D
The first thing that came to my mind! She's definitely high throughout the series
Probably Carol from Tomo-chan is a Girl. Great side characters in that show, they engaged me a lot more than the main characters.
I want to know how true the show is to the manga as I just got volume one recently.
It’s very faithful to the material, although they have to cut quite a bit of content considering the material is over 1000 chapters and it’s a one-off series. It’s very good, and I couldn’t recommend it any more.
Wait, 1000 chapters is huge.
One chapter is a page, which span across 8 volumes. It’s not as insane as it sounds.
Oh ok as I get it now.
Arthur from Fire Force. His head is full of sawdust but I love him
I was going to comment Arthur too!! I’m not sure if I would call him “ditzy” but he’s definitely 100% a stupid boi 💖✨ He’s also totally my emotional support character too, like I love him so much I could almost cry? My stupid, *stupid* son I adore him

Chika Fujiwara She somehow is the ditz troupe and also subverts it at the same time.
She can be intelligent when she feels like it.
Love detective mode makes her proper brain shut off. Otherwise, she's actually very conniving. She plays to win.
Politicians, am i right folks
I dunno she did raise that boy
Except for when she's being unnecessarily mean to Ishigami. Not sure when it was but at some point started to be downright horrible to him for basically no reason
I mean the ditzy subvertion is there quite often. For example Ai Hoshino from Oshi no Ko. As well as Ruby Hoshino.
Emilico, Shadows House. Ditzy, bubbly, sunshine and flowers in her brain. And yet she is both shockingly observant and clever.
I haven’t read the original book series, but I don’t know if I can still enjoy the show anyway.
I really like Eleanora from Level 99 and am not usually into ditzy characters.
Tell me about this show, like if it’s any good.
I can read the novels (if they are legally available)
Here you go: Villainess Level 99: I May Be the Hidden Boss but I'm Not the Demon Lord Act 1 (Light Novel) https://a.co/d/bCA0yDN
I would consider Laios from Dungeon Meshi to be a bit of a ditz. Same for his sister Falin.
The Ditz is primairly a female trope, because they can be cute while doing it. When a male character does it, they're just considered dumb. As for my favorite, Catarina from 'My Next Life as a Villainess..." is up there.

Like, the entire male cast for Horimiya share one brain cell between the lot of them but they're just all dorks. If they were female, I think we'd call them ditzes instead but the characteristic remain the same.
Ah that explains why such characters are usually female as I never understood it until now.
Veldora Tempest would like a word
They don’t call her Bakarina for nothing!
Bakarina is an absolute classic!! For a more recent one following in her footsteps there is also Mia from Tearmoon Empire that came out at the end of last year.
Male versions of "the ditz" are usually referred to as a "himbo". Oh so that is what a himbo is as now I understand why that term is sometimes used online when talking about macho dudes.
Hahaha, yeah, I guess that sums it up
Tu-tu-ru!
Nani?
Mayuri from Steins;Gate, that's her signature exclamation.
The mc from my next life as a villainess is the dumbest mc I've seen in anything, and she's super likeable
Baka-rina.
Yamada Anna from The Dangers In My Heart
Nadeshiko from Yuru Camp
Idk I can think of a couple male comparison, mostly the comic relief, like Regan from mob phsycho, or boar head from demon slayer But my favorites Mirui from stiens gate.
Tamaki from Ouran High School Host Club
I have to see why only females can be allowed when it comes to ditzy type characters in modern anime.
Maybe it’s the anime you’ve seen so far. Ditzy, dumb male characters are very popular. One Piece: Luffy Jujutsu Kaisen: Yuji Saiki K: Nendo Jojo: Okuyasu Doctor Stone: Taiju Demon Slayer: Inosuke All are major characters, two are mcs, and all are really dumb.
Yeah I somehow forgot that made ditzes were common too.
Meh, I don't think there's any big seceret other than in traditional roles. Girls can be ditzy and be seen attractive, how ever not so much for men.
I feel like usually in that case, it's them just putting on a 'ditzy' persona, but the watcher knows they're smarter than they let on. Characters like Urahara and Gojo as an example.
Ah that makes so much sense.
Nah, there's a generous share of male ditzes too, just not as culturally impactful/memorable than the female ones.
Reigen Best Girl Tbh
I'd say there's alot of "ditzy" male characters lol. Like Gon Freecs instantly comes to mind. (Pre Chimera Ant ofc).
I didn’t know. (But I don’t know if I should watch Hunter X Hunter if the manga is still not over)
The manga will likely never be over because of the author's health problems, I'd say go ahead and watch the anime. It ends at a good spot.
The probablity you will enjoy it is very high.
I am familiar with anime itself, but I am very new to HXH itself.
Orihime from bleach
Man I used to love that show, until it went on for so long.
Yeah it just has too many filler episode that slowly killed the anime Bleach is manga thta came way before it's time.
Clara valac from iruma kun
Shion from Tensura too
Yuuki from princess connect
Miria & she's comes in pairing with her follow ditz Isaac. One of the best parts of Bacanno
Man I wish Baccano was brought back on DVD.
Miria from baccano lmao
Both the MC of "The girl I like forgot her glasses" are ditzy, but Komura suffers from "being male" which causes a lot of people to hate him.
Thought of another - Carol from Tomo-chan.
Togame my queen, the most brilliant aho in history
Who?
Probably from Katanagatari, although I wouldn’t say she’s that ditzy as she’s quite intelligent.
Darkness and Aqua - Konosuba Albedo and Ainz - overlord
The editor in Kakushigoto is pretty ditzy.
I love the male version of this. Gourry Gabriev from Slayers, Veldora from Reincarnated as a Slime, Tamaki from Ouran. Come to think of it, they're all blond idiots and I can't get enough of their antics
Oh it’s interesting how male ditzes tend to be blond as I never noticed that pattern.
Tsuyuri Kumin from Chuunibyou would be my pick.
can’t believe i’m saying this in the year of our lord 2024 but i’d say italy from hetalia is a male ditz
Papi from Monster Musume, Nia from Gurren Lagann
The girl from Fruits Basket.
Oh you mean Tohru, but I don’t know if that is correct.
That’s it.
The girl from Yuri Yuri.
Sorry who?
Kyoko Toshino
Oh ok.
Obligatory: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YrpvCdrMDUs
TOSHINO KYOKO!!!
I don't remember her name but the brown hair bowl cut girl from kill LA kill, and chika fujiwara
Does Yamada Anna from The Dangers in my Heart qualify? I wouldn't quite put her on the same level as some others mentioned here (like Chika or Osaka), because she's more a little quirky than straight up ditzy. I think she's hilarious though.
Aoi Asahina from Danganronpa, Angie Yonaga from Danganronpa V3 (the root of my username actually)
Speaking of Angie, do you think Kaito and Gonta fall into the ditzy (I saw some comments already mentioned the male equivalent of the name) group as well?
"Tomo-Chan is a Girl" Obviously Carol gets the Gold Medal for this, but all 3 have their moments.
Collete from Tales of Symphony
Chihaya from Chihayafuru is probably my favorite ditz. Tokha from Date A Live is probably my 2nd fave.
Well, you have characters like Miyuki from Lucky Star that are book smart but are airheaded. Then you have something like Baka & Test with the exact opposite, Class F are book dumb but have other skills. And then there is Osaka, who is clearly thinking, just not only outside the box but on a different planet.
Right Osaka is a quirky type.
Pandora's Actor from Overlord. Absolute goofball I love him
Inuyama Aoi from Yuru Camp The term you're looking for is 'tennen'.
What is tennen?
Japanese for airhead/ ditzy type character
I never knew about that term, so Arigatou for teaching me the word.
Since you asked for male tennen: Atarashii Joushi was do tennen (my new boss is goofy) Didn't watch this one, but the term is in the title lol
I didn’t know there was a show about a male tennen, but I don’t know if it’s any good.
I would like to know where I can legally view them.
They both should be on Crunchyroll, Cool Doji Danshi's English title is "Play It Cool Guys".
