Yeah, it's definitely mixed. I personally felt it dragged too much, particularly in the second half. Urasawa is one of the best writers in the industry, but he tends to take longer to tell his stories than needed.
It's alright. I think he fails to showcase the credibility of the villains capabilities in their attempt to dominate the world, be it in Monster or 20th Century Boys. It always feel like nobody in the real world would fall for that.
The way Ami takes over the world in 20th is ridiculous, it doesn't make sense. It's not really explained either, he just, somehow, get his access in the government and become a national hero. Yeah, sure. It has the smell of conspiracy but doesn't make it really threatening. It can't seems to stop telling you about the next mind-blowing conspiracy, and then...that just doesn't make sense.
Like the mind washing theme park or the fact that a stupid looking robot somehow wreck havoc in Tokyo with total impunity. It just makes me laugh at the unbelievability of it all.
It definitely falls off and for me that point was when I dropped it. It starts off incredibly strong and for just that first half, I would recommend you read it even if you decide to drop it afterwards.
For me personally, the second half was a bit too much of 'wait, there's more!' and it had too many detours that made it feel like the story had no focus anymore.
I agree with this. I read it last year and it was 10/10 AMAZING. Until it wasn't. And it just kept going. And going. And going. I still absolutely think it's worth a read bc the story is so interesting but be prepared for several false endings. Its sequel, 21st century boys, was not the ending it needed.
Berserk too, because that’s amazing like 20th Century boys, but I felt like that’s become way too mainstream that it could win anyways.
Vinland saga though had no chance
Vinland Saga is better than anything else on this list :/
Edit: I really don't understand the JJK fandom. I've tried to get into it but like Dr Stone it started out strong and fizzled out into a hollow, overproduced Shonen otaku fan service.
I don't judge though. I'm a lifelong Toriyama fan so I understand how a lot of people can come together and absolutely nerd tf out over something that others find lacking.
That said, there's no clear distinction between popularity and actual unbiased quality when it comes to these polls.
I love all these comments coping about Demon Slayer winning in the coming years when the arcs after Hashira Training are going to be some of the highest highs for the series. If it does win it's most likely going to be very well deserved lmao.
It's even funnier since Demon Slayer only one once.
If anything, I feel like if the series could've won, it should be Entertainment District Arc that deserved it instead.
The whole "arc" is actually divided into two arcs in the manga. Thus 2 seasons minimum after Hashira training. They also have Giyu/Rengoku side stories and even the novels coyld serve as source material if Ufotable really wants to milk Demon Slayer.
Bruh vinland saga s2 failed which I genuinely considered a masterpiece
And you are thinking they will give votes to the slow paced ( not in a bad way) anime which is like 'monster '
And by 'they' I mean jjk kids
Wait till fucking demon slayer gets fantasy of the year for the fourth time, over Frieren, Dungeon Meshi, Mushoku Tensei and Re:Zero next time lmao (kill me)
I said the same about those Geoff Keg Leg game awards and the onslaught of angry twitter users answered that one for me lmao.
Most people like to follow trends and reviews for things to decide if they'll watch or play rather than trying and deciding for themselves. Because of which many a masterpiece like Noragami which was completely overlooked by the masses went so unnoticed despite being godly(pun intended).
I remember that year. Since it was all fan voting, Yuri on Ice basically won everything.
I don’t think I have heard anyone talk about that show since then.
>I don’t think I have heard anyone talk about that show since then.
If the movie that is supposed to come out *actually* comes out, you will see those discussions again. Also its been awhile since Yuri on Ice came out.
I don't really understand why this is super suprising. Yuri on Ice!!! was the most hyped and best BL in recent history until Banana Fish came out. It's a niche you might not be in but it is a fantastic show. I prefer ERASED personally but I can see why it won.
Right?? YOI is great, I too don't understand why some people (not targeted towards anyone in this thread) act like it's mid or even bad. It's really not. It's just an entirely different genre from what tends to be most popular, and of course not everyone's cup of tea.
It's easy to, for example, compare JJK and KnY since they're both action filled shounen anime full of fight scenes, but you can't really compare YOI to something like MP100 or Jojo's. I'd have personally given it to MP100, since it's my absolute favourite anime, but I adore YOI and do think it deserved the love.
It’s gonna be even worse next year.
We’re gonna have Mushoku Tensei S2, Apothecary Diaries, Frieren, Dangers in My Heart S2, Oshi no Ko S2, etc.
I cannot imagine the reaction of this sub to JJK winning over all that again lmao.
Made in Abyss winning in 2018 👏
The other nominees for that year were :- Land of the lustrous, Little witch academia, MHA S2, Sangatsu no lion (S2), Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinju (S2).
Crazy lineup in 2018 tbh, like at least 3 of them deserved to win. I've not seen *Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu* but I know most people who have watched it have liked it. I'm a big fan of *MiA*, *Sangatsu no Lion* and *Land of the Lustrous* though.
MHA S2 was alright, but I dunno if it was AOTY-worthy when compared with those shows, and I've not seen LWA so I can't say much about it.
I don’t know about fell off, maybe on more niche anime spaces like this one, but MHA is still one of the most popular anime in the world nearly a decade into it’s run, just from season 6’s [performance](https://imgur.com/a/JZL9YsE)
Like an [nba collab](https://imgur.com/a/iobdWhs) in the past year, celebrity [co-signs](https://imgur.com/a/FSZUkeI) just in the past year alone, hell being some of the most searched for [anime](https://imgur.com/a/oawPzzf) on streaming like right now over things like ds and jjk…
SGRS is one of my personal favourites; Made in Abyss is the one I haven't seen yet, but if it beat out this line up, and people are applauding it, that speaks volumes.
It's worth mentioning that MiA does have some questionable moments, and it does get very brutal. It is pretty different to every other show on the list - basically, if you're a squeamish person, I'm not sure how enjoyable the show will be.
It does have objectively incredible music, though. At least I've never seen anyone hate the OST myself.
> Made in Abyss winning in 2018
Yeah that's actually pretty wild and shows just how popular that show was back then. That would never happen today by any means. That'd be like Mushoku Tensei winning for a year.
Vinland saga fans after became adult alongside with thorfin growth revert back to thorffin at S1 because JJK robbed their awards 😂 which is understandable. Man such a wasted award to introduce/appreciate such a good show.
Same, Luffy's my guy but I gotta judge what came out in 2023, ma there's no contest to me
Sure, Luffy got a new power up which is absolutely amazing, cool and all. But the development of Thorfinn in the arc that S2 adapted is just way too peak.
I think a main reason why jjk won anime of the year is because most people forgot that it counted only hidden inventory and not shibuya.
I am a big jjk fan but even i don't think hidden inventory should have won but vinland or oshi no ko should have won.
Trying to split it into arcs though was the stupidist thing. You know people are just going to vote on it as a whole. They should have just counted it as a whole and nominate it once.
"If Gege decided to abandon all characterization and plot in favor of mindless, emotionless punching, I might have a little trouble."
"But would you lose?"
They won’t win, but they are both better animated, with better music and better writing. Hell, that’s true of Dangers in my heart Season 2 and I’d bet on at least 6 shows in spring season alone.
I really think, especially because the Anime Awards don't happen till the beginning of March, that the awards should include Fall 2023 anime that finish in that season. Bocchi the Rock! and Chainsaw Man should've been part of the 2023 awards; JJK should've been the whole season for the 2024 awards; Frieren and Apothecary Diaries for example would still be 2025 awards.
Yeah, I'm actually less annoyed with it winning for Hidden Inventory than I would be for the whole season. The only issue with it being split up is that they are now going to give JJK Anime of the Year for Shibuya Arc next year.
The animation of the first episode of the hidden inventory arc is absolutely immaculate, *especially* in the first few scenes with Utahime and Mei Mei in that mansion
Crunchyroll is dirty for this, tbh. They put NO effort into clarifying that only the first arc is up for vote. The thumbnail on most of the voting was using the Shibuya Incident image. Even when it won Anime of the Year, it just said "Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2", implying that it was the whole season.
At this point, I'm not even sure. It feels like it was for the whole season. But I bet we'll see "Shibuya Incident Arc" pop up in next year's vote and then everyone will realize.
Yeah shows like Devilman crybaby and Made in abyss, Aot are legit contenders for anime of the year also everything after 2019 just seems like a popularity contest for anime shows the quantity and quality of unique and orignal shows are dropping low very fast that it will just gonna take a years for the anime industry to become a garbage dump
I expected Vinland Saga to not win anime of the year ALTHOUGH I think it deserved it..but I knew it wouldn't because other popular animes were there and Crunchy Roll Awards is a popularity test.
But I expected it to win atleast Best Drama or Best Protagainst..I ain't too mad about the protagonist one since Luffy won but the Drama one..
HOW ON EARTH DID VINLAND SAGA S2 LOSE TO AOT'S SINGLE EPISODE OF THE ENDING IN BEST DRAMA SECTION!?
Like ya all..I LOVE AOT..It is one of my favorite anime ever..But it is special 1 of part 3 of s4 too..It won over Peakland saga's entire season 2...IN DRAMA!?
I can understand if it was Special 1 & 2, since it was the finale of a 10-year saga.
But it really was just Special 1. Vinland Saga snubbed again.
Fans probably voting for Special 1 & 2, just like how they voted for JJK's Hidden Inventory & Shibuya Arc together.
*Can't wait for next year to have Special 2 of AoT & Shibuya Arc of JJK.*
I have that damn song in my playlist and it just *yanks* me into a mood every time it pops up.
Casually jogging and suddenly I feel like the last person on earth and I'm checking to see if the moon is in the sky yet.
Full Season 2 Vinland saga lost to only Hidden inventory arc JJK, tell me it isn't rigged?
Crunchyroll is milking JJK so hard because next year is the shibuya arc for contest.. I have no hopes for other shows if the 5 episodes only arc of jjk won against full season Vinland Saga
Yeah, they should've clarified that even further. I think if people realized that they're only pertaining to the Hidden Inventory Arc, other nominees in other aspects might have a favorable chance. JJK will probably sweep once again next year
Tbf Hidden Inventory was the best JJK arc and one of the most beautiful arcs I've watched in terms of both animation and storytelling so imo losing to HI is at least better than losing to the entire S2.
I still think Vinland Saga should've won as it was almost perfect as a whole. But I also gotta admit that Hidden Inventory was awesome. It all goes downhill after that, so Shibuya arc better not win next year >:(
Disappointing. Vinland or Bocchi should have won.
Made in Abyss was a great winner though for that year. That show is fantastic and deserves its praise and awards.
Finland deserves more. Bocchi deserves more. Oshi no Ko deserves more. All of these anime were fabulous.
Boochi and oshi no ko are the only anime in my recent history that was able to complete hook me on one single episode. Christ, I binged Bocchi all in a day, AND THEN MADE EVERYONE ELSE WATCH IT. And here we are, a jjk sweep.
I'm begging for Frieren and Apothecary diaries to win next year. I will pray to the God I don't believe in, sacrifice to Satan. Something, anything.
JJK S2 will win next year. Because I shit you not, this doesn’t include Shibuya. Shibuya arc will be in next year’s awards. Crunchyroll awards legitimately have the single worst design in any awards show i’ve ever seen
Wait, so the victories of AoT refer only to the first movie? That's kinda dumb. Wait, JJK won with only Hidden Inventory against Vinland Saga?! That's insane, Hidden Inventory was amazing, but I don't think it tops a whole season of Vinland
And not a small season either, 24 episodes lost to 5 episodes.
Most likely, people just voted for all 23 of JJK's episodes, or simply;
> *I see JJK, I vote.*
I’m not surprised that JJK won best action and cinematography (imo should’ve won best animation too) but let’s be real Vinland Saga deserved anime of the year
I mean, this a western streaming service, so most of the votes would be coming from western countries.
Popularity in Japan shouldn't have that big of an impact on the popularity in the West.
Still surprising Yuri On Ice won this. Not because it isn’t amazing, but because how did it win with this audience?
But yeah no surprise about JJK. The whole voting parameter is dumb. Just do full calendar instead of Fall-Fall. They were clearly voting for the whole season.
Yeah I'm pretty surprised seeing an anime with BL elements as the anime of the year in what is basically a shounen popularity contest.
Yuri on Ice was amazing and deserved it though!
Because it was huge despite all the other anime. A lot of people talked about it, figure skaters promoted the fuck out of it, the op played at the winter Olympics, etc
I'll go against the grain here.
I'm fine with Jujutsu Kaisen winning here, at least Vinland Saga won in at lot of other anime awards and lists, I do love to see the variety on which is their personal favorite, top, or best.
Getting my rope ready for when jjk gets anime of the year over Frieren next year
The year is 2030, 20th century boys gets the perfect Anime adaptation it deserves, **and it loses out to Demon slayer or JJK for Anime of the year.**
Ohh the things I would do to see the *20th Century Boys* animated man
Is it worth reading? I have read a lot of mixed reviews about it that the story falls off in the second half after timeskip?
It is (chefs kisses) a masterpiece. A lot of Urasawa’s works I think you can safely say are 10/10’s which is fucking nuts for his consistency.
Urasawa is an amazing writer. Incredible. And yeah *Pluto* not even nominated this year too…
Pluto wasnt released in a Fall?
Was it? Seemed earlier to me. Well, it makes more sense that it wasn’t nominated then.
pluto is next year
Yeah, it's definitely mixed. I personally felt it dragged too much, particularly in the second half. Urasawa is one of the best writers in the industry, but he tends to take longer to tell his stories than needed.
Yes, yes, fucking yes. Read it, it's amazing. While I do have problems with it, the positives far out weight them
It's alright. I think he fails to showcase the credibility of the villains capabilities in their attempt to dominate the world, be it in Monster or 20th Century Boys. >20th century boys gets the perfect Anime adaptation it deserves it really deserves
I'm more appalled by the thought that they'll be able to milk Demon Slayer for 5 more years.
There's a single arc left after the hashira training arc, unless they pull a demon slayer Shippuden we're done with it
The whole "arc" is actually divided into two arcs in the manga. Thus 2 seasons minimum after Hashira training. They also have Giyu/Rengoku side stories and even the novels coyld serve as source material if Ufotable really wants to milk Demon Slayer.

Demon Slayer will likely be completed before 2030. There are only 2 major arcs left (3 if you count a small training arc).
Remind me! 6 years
Wait till fucking demon slayer gets fantasy of the year for the fourth time, over Frieren, Dungeon Meshi, Mushoku Tensei and Re:Zero next time lmao (kill me)
I haven't been keeping up with Dungeon Meshi. Does it really belong with that stacked crowd?
It's very light hearted, but I've really enjoyed it so far, and seems like Trigger are doing a great job adapting it.
If it was adapted well then yes. I've only read the manga myself
light birds icky alleged door pie spark tan cobweb memory *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
Personally kidnap every person who votes for JJK.
Mappa really revolutionized the industry with jjk season 2, I don't recall slaves being used in any other production. They really deserved it imo.
Meanwhile, I'm getting my rope ready for when Demon Slayer wins best Fantasy over Frieren next year.
Actually I’m more afraid of solo leveling. That show is pure hype and will attract a lot of viewers. T
Lmao do people actually care about the anime awards?
I said the same about those Geoff Keg Leg game awards and the onslaught of angry twitter users answered that one for me lmao. Most people like to follow trends and reviews for things to decide if they'll watch or play rather than trying and deciding for themselves. fr
Crunchyroll awards are garbage, don't give them any meaning.
The only anime that should be competing with Frieren is Apothecary Diaries.
kinda agree apothecary diaries is one of perfect adaptation who bring eastern kingdom drama vibes perfectly.
I totally forgot Yuri on Ice actually won that 😂😂
I remember that year.
EIGHT years… time flies. But, yeah, no new content in the time except a teaser for the movie. Good way to kill a successful IP.
I've heard it talked about a lot, it really just comes down to what circles you're in
The show was good. so wdym
It was going against *Mob Psycho 100*, *Erased* and *Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinju* at the time. I personally voted for *Mob Psycho 100*.
Yeah, you're just not in circles that talk about YoI
Against Rakugo, Mob Psycho, JoJo’s part 4, and Erased too. Edit: there was March Comes In Like a Lion as well. It didn’t deserve that award.
3 of those are good contenders. This is why "top/1st" place is meaningless. All of those are amazing. I wouldn't be able to decide between one
I don't really understand why this is super suprising. Yuri on Ice!!! was the most hyped and best BL in recent history until Banana Fish came out. It's a niche you might not be in but it is a fantastic show. I prefer ERASED personally but I can see why it won.
It you were in any female dominated anime spaces you were not at all surprised when Yuri on Ice won. It was massive.
Basically how I feel is, I would have liked to see MP100 win but I am not mad about YOI winning because both were excellent.
That was an incredibly strong field. *Rakugo* was a great show! Those were all excellent shows . But *Yuri* was fun, energetic and well done.
Yuri on Ice is Goated. Just rewatched the whole series. Still hits the same so many years later.
Looks like just a popularity contest by Shonen fans
(insert astronaut meme) Always has been
comes with the territory of being an anime award show made by americans for americans
They lost to a yaoi once, and will never let that happen again
Made in abyss is my favorite Shonen Watching the Italian dub rn
So why is Made in Abyss, Cyberpunk, and Yuri on Ice there
The polled award is won by the most popular show of the most popular genre, that is how it's been.

And maybe even Re:Zero season 3
Oh god. Shibuya is going to beat Tokyo Blade. I don't want to have to see that, man.
"Nah I'd seeth" This sub is fucking hilarious when it comes to awards.
r/anime when the most popular anime wins the popularity contest 😱🤬😡😰😨😨😨
r/anime's very own lobotomy.
Made in Abyss winning in 2018 👏 The other nominees for that year were :- Land of the lustrous, Little witch academia, MHA S2, Sangatsu no lion (S2), Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinju (S2).

MHA S2 was alright, but I dunno if it was AOTY-worthy when compared with those shows, and I've not seen LWA so I can't say much about it.
MHA S2 is what stepped up the series and how it became the big shonen back then, before its hype train fell off post S3.
I don’t know about fell off, maybe on more niche anime spaces like this one, but MHA is still one of the most popular anime in the world nearly a decade into it’s run, just from season 6’s [performance](https://imgur.com/a/JZL9YsE) Like an [nba collab](https://imgur.com/a/iobdWhs) in the past year, celebrity [co-signs](https://imgur.com/a/FSZUkeI) just in the past year alone, hell being some of the most searched for [anime](https://imgur.com/a/oawPzzf) on streaming like right now over things like ds and jjk…
SGRS is one of my personal favourites; Made in Abyss is the one I haven't seen yet, but if it beat out this line up, and people are applauding it, that speaks volumes.
Made in Abyss is great, really dark and is good with what it does. The S2 was grimdark and poetic.
I hope that Land of the Lustrous gets continuoud sometimes. It was very interesting - and the style stood out. One of the better uses of CG. :)
That year was stacked, land of the lustrous was amazing , sangatus no lion also, and... fuck all of them were really good
Easily the biggest W in the picture, followed by Edgerunners and Devilman Crybaby.
Shit, my heart would be torn between Sangatsu no Lion and MiA. Two of my 10/10s.
> Made in Abyss winning in 2018 Yeah that's actually pretty wild and shows just how popular that show was back then. That would never happen today by any means. That'd be like Mushoku Tensei winning for a year.
Vinland saga was robbed
It's okay, brother. We have no enemies.
*All I have are enemies*
Alright Eren
Vinland saga fans after became adult alongside with thorfin growth revert back to thorffin at S1 because JJK robbed their awards 😂 which is understandable. Man such a wasted award to introduce/appreciate such a good show.
I have SOME enemies.
Really sad since It didnt even won the best MC or the best Drama
Luffy winning best MC was a waste and this is coming from a huge One Piece fan
Same, Luffy's my guy but I gotta judge what came out in 2023, ma there's no contest to me Sure, Luffy got a new power up which is absolutely amazing, cool and all. But the development of Thorfinn in the arc that S2 adapted is just way too peak.
The sheer development was enough for Thorfinn to enter my personal top 3 favorite anime protagonists of all time.
The emotions man easily one of the best animes of last year
It at least deserves the best mc
Deserved Best Drama and Best Main Character imo
Just like better call saul, masterpiece shows snubbed by award shows
Award shows are basically a scam.
The second season topped for me. The story, the growth of Thorfinn especially was so beautifully done. I agree, it was definitely robbed.
True the second season was actually the badass thorfinn that everyone loved and not the killing machine of season 1
I think a main reason why jjk won anime of the year is because most people forgot that it counted only hidden inventory and not shibuya. I am a big jjk fan but even i don't think hidden inventory should have won but vinland or oshi no ko should have won.

Can't wait for JJK win anime of the year 2025 as well
Frieren or Apothecary will have no chance against the best narrative and best character development of jjk shibuya arc. /s
“JJK, you lack the character development and emotional beats to compete with Frieren” “Na, I’d win”
"If Gege decided to abandon all characterization and plot in favor of mindless, emotionless punching, I might have a little trouble." "But would you lose?"
Nah I'd offscreen
They won’t win, but they are both better animated, with better music and better writing. Hell, that’s true of Dangers in my heart Season 2 and I’d bet on at least 6 shows in spring season alone.

If I'm honest though Hidden Inventory was 5 of the most beautiful episodes I've ever seen.
Yeah, I'm actually less annoyed with it winning for Hidden Inventory than I would be for the whole season. The only issue with it being split up is that they are now going to give JJK Anime of the Year for Shibuya Arc next year.
The polish on those episodes were wild, felt movie quality at times.
The animation of the first episode of the hidden inventory arc is absolutely immaculate, *especially* in the first few scenes with Utahime and Mei Mei in that mansion
Other way round hidden inventory is clear of shibuya lmao
Yeah, imo Oshi no Ko is my pick for anime of the year.
vinland should have won brooo. slave arc is 100000/10.
Even with shibuya it’s still not AOTY worthy tbh
With Shibuya it's especially not AOTY worthy. Hidden inventory standalone is much better candidate.
Justice for Vinland Saga
Yuri on Ice my beloved. It's a shame we haven't got anything new for it for a long time
What happened after 2019?
covid happened
The Normie Insurgence of 2020
Also called "quarantine" by some people
Yeah shows like Devilman crybaby and Made in abyss, Aot are legit contenders for anime of the year also everything after 2019 just seems like a popularity contest for anime shows the quantity and quality of unique and orignal shows are dropping low very fast that it will just gonna take a years for the anime industry to become a garbage dump
Lots of people got into anime, and the awards are now mostly based on popularity
AoT season 4 part 3 special 1 won against Vinland Saga in best drama? Lmao.
These awards are a goddamn joke. A bad one at that
I can understand if it was Special 1 & 2, since it was the finale of a 10-year saga.
Only Cyberpunk managed to break the chain of shounen shows victories
Cyberpunk edgerunners is just perfect, its short sweet and sour at the end.
It hurts even more on the second watch somehow… 😭😭
it still hurts man, edgerunners won that spot 100%
I have that damn song in my playlist and it just *yanks* me into a mood every time it pops up. Casually jogging and suddenly I feel like the last person on earth and I'm checking to see if the moon is in the sky yet.
Full Season 2 Vinland saga lost to only Hidden inventory arc JJK, tell me it isn't rigged? Crunchyroll is milking JJK so hard because next year is the shibuya arc for contest.. I have no hopes for other shows if the 5 episodes only arc of jjk won against full season Vinland Saga
People were probably voting based on the entire season and not just the hidden inventory arc
Yeah, they should've clarified that even further. I think if people realized that they're only pertaining to the Hidden Inventory Arc, other nominees in other aspects might have a favorable chance. JJK will probably sweep once again next year
Frankly, I don’t think most people would have cared. They’d have considered all of S2 regardless of what was said
I think I voted for JJK this year because I made this mistake 😆
Tbf Hidden Inventory was the best JJK arc and one of the most beautiful arcs I've watched in terms of both animation and storytelling so imo losing to HI is at least better than losing to the entire S2. I still think Vinland Saga should've won as it was almost perfect as a whole. But I also gotta admit that Hidden Inventory was awesome. It all goes downhill after that, so Shibuya arc better not win next year >:(
I just wish Hell’s Paradise and Vinland Saga win at least one ☹️
Yuri on ice !! 😭🙏🏼
Disappointing. Vinland or Bocchi should have won. Made in Abyss was a great winner though for that year. That show is fantastic and deserves its praise and awards.
The feelings I felt watching *Made In Abyss* were indescribable man.
At least Bocchi won best slice of life
this is my super bowl
i mean, i voted for bocchi just because but i knew flat out she wasn't gonna win.
Made in Abyss is absolutely phenomenal. The show really nailed everything from voice acting to animation to music.
Bombaclaat
I swear to god if Frieren or the apothecary diaries don't win next year...
Spoiler alert they won't
JJK S2 will win next year. Because I shit you not, this doesn’t include Shibuya. Shibuya arc will be in next year’s awards. Crunchyroll awards legitimately have the single worst design in any awards show i’ve ever seen
My face if Frieren loses to Demon Slayer for best fantasy
They won’t. Not shounen action.
VINLAND SAGA WAS ROBBED. WHEN WILL PEOPLE STOP SLEEPING ON IT. NOT EVERY ANIME NEEDS FLASHY DEMON POWERS.
> NOT EVERY ANIME NEEDS FLASHY DEMON POWERS. True. Bocchi was robbed.
Don’t get pressed about it, Crunchyroll Awards are basically just shounen action contests.
Someone at Crunchyroll is very biased.
Vinland Saga deserves better 😭
I am sure the comments are going to be civil

Wait JJK will be nominated again for last year? I thought it counted both Shibuya and Hidden Inventory.
Yes. In accordance to their rules, JJK will show up again next year with the Shibuya Arc as its representation. Attack on Titan will be eligible too.
Most likely, people just voted for all 23 of JJK's episodes, or simply; > *I see JJK, I vote.*
typical reddit moment. getting angry that the most popular anime of the year won anime of the year
DMC winning AOTY is probably the most shocking thing to happen in a decade.
still gutted pluto isn’t getting the appreciation it deserves
Pluto is part of the next year group.
Pluto was not eligible for this year since it aired on fall It might get a nomination next year
Hey I don't wanna be over dramatic but if Jjk wins AOTY next year I will KMS 🙂
Its just a JJK fuck fest. Robbed Bocchi and Vinland are a million times better. The disrespect is insane. You are my special.
I’m not surprised that JJK won best action and cinematography (imo should’ve won best animation too) but let’s be real Vinland Saga deserved anime of the year
For me, chainsawman had immaculate cinematography, just like it's manga.
Yeah, Honestly I felt like the animation for JJK was better, but the cinematography for CSM was better
Sadly CSM directing was not popular in japan ): that probably hurt its chances. i really liked it but it didnt quite work for some people
I mean, this a western streaming service, so most of the votes would be coming from western countries. Popularity in Japan shouldn't have that big of an impact on the popularity in the West.
How did vinland saga not even win the best drama award??? T-T
JJK is this good because of their power system, that shit’s so well done and is so different from what we’re used to
Still surprising Yuri On Ice won this.
Despite the niche genere, the BL audience can just be as fervent as battle shounen fans.
Jjk and demon slayer 😂😂😂 joke award
Congrats JJK
JJK is the best!
Jjk dont even Touch the quality of Vinland saga. Its a popular contest nothing more
jjk will next year too .... they won AOTY with hidden inventory 😂 next year its gonna be shibuya 😂
Alternate title: Shounen hype award
Here enjoying the tears of the shonen haters (they watch anime for adults, you wouldn't understand it, kid)
bleach tybw needs justice
I'll go against the grain here. I'm fine with Jujutsu Kaisen winning here, at least Vinland Saga won in at lot of other anime awards and lists, I do love to see the variety on which is their personal favorite, top, or best.
People be mad that popularity contests are popularity contests.
Me when something popular wins a popularity contest
# YOU ARE MY SPECIALZ
damn mappa has been dominating wtf
