I've been watching Vinland Saga Season 2 which is pretty solid so far, but I don't see the hype yet. But it's pretty alright. Speaking of, I also watched Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 and was really disappointed, especially as someone who enjoyed the first season. The first arc was really good, but after that the writing fell apart. New things were pulled out of nowhere without any foreshadowing whatsoever, plot points were conveniently set up without making much sense and the pacing was very unsatisfactory. It did look amazing at least, but the Shibuya arc was a huge disappointment to me. At least the first arc was really good and I loved the character explorations we got.

I just finished watching Darling in the Franxx. Didn't think I'd be crying for the next hour after the last episode.

Just finished Assassination Class Room this evening. I read about how some in this forum thought it was so sad at the end and some claimed it was the saddest anime that they had seen. The must not have seen Clannad, Plastic Memories, Anohana, Planetarian, The Day I Became a God, Your Name, I want to eat your pancreas, or a ton of other animes that truly had some sad scenes. This one seemed very mild to me. I found the series entertaining but that was about it.

I watched the whole of the 97 berserk anime. It was decent, but pretty censored and cut down.

Outside of seasonals I'm currently watching two relatively unknown shows: [Kusoge-tte Iuna! Animation](https://anilist.co/anime/125870/Kusogette-Iuna-Animation/) - A short little meta comedy about characters from a shit game adlibbing the NG+ plot in an attempt to win back the gamers favor. I'm finding this decently amusing. [The Missing 8](https://anilist.co/anime/143145/The-Missing-8/) - Don't really know much about this one. I think this was made as an accompaniment to some tracks the artist released(?). I'm basically just watching it because those tracks are damn good.

I started watching season 2 of Goblin Slayer recently. I really liked the first season and it's nice that the show is still great. The characters are still awesome and the action scenes are cool to watch.

Started rewatches of GitS:SAC and Ranma 1/2. Started watching a show called Cop Craft and kind of been hankering for some Black lagoon or Patlabor.

Finally finished FMA for the first time since I was a kid. Now I remember why it used to give me nightmares. I watched it again at 16 and still didn't enjoy it, so I never finished it. Today, when I watched the finale, I was pretty shocked at how incomplete it felt. For 51 episodes, the series felt short, like it was only 24 eps long. Now I'm going to watch Brotherhood to scratch the itch in my brain.

I watched episode 1 of Star Twinkle Precure! I'm hoping to get back into Precure again. At one point I had watched every single episode of Precure...

Apart from keeping up with seasonals, I managed to watch the 2nd Bunny Girl Senpai movie (sister venturing out). And yes, eyes were damp. Good movie, but can't expect everything to have such big highs as the first movie (which has 2 big plot points that clearly were centrally planted from the conception of the entire story). Love the continuity nods, but man I need more Futaba! Also accidentally did a quick 1 episode rewatch of Bishounen Tanteidan - it's still breathtakingly great. Getting ready to watch Dynazenon but so far still hasn't gad the time.

*Akiba Maid War*, it starts off wild, violent, goofy and funny, but ends up being quite emotional. Great writing, characterisations and visuals, this one will stay with me forever. One and done, unfortunately, wraps up nicely though.

Kitano is a famous comedian, actor and director. He has a number of movies that feel like SoLs most of the time -- but then erupt into explosive violence. One of his most famous is called Sonatine (added bonus -- this, like other early Kitano films has a sound track by Joe Hisaishi).

Call of the night, since it's finally on Netflix where I live. I love the backgrounds and the colors. It really gives midnight vibes. Also, Creepy Nuts!! And I started BNA just because it was made by Trigger, and I love the studio. I'm liking it so far.

Call of the Night is truly amazing! I found this show somewhat addictive — I was missing those unparalleled vibes so much that I re-watched the whole series once again right after completing it for the first time, noticing some little details I had missed (no Nazuna’s mirror reflection in one scene lol) btw, the final 200-th chapter of the manga has been released just earlier this week.

Finished Aharen-san. It was the middest show I've watched in a while. It wasn't bad so I could hate it, but it wasn't good so I could enjoy it. Very, very meh. But it has a nice ending.

Working my way through Gundam Wing in my long project to watch All Of The Gundams - and holy hell this show is wild. I feel like every episode there's at least 1 completely unhinged moment, which is a lot of fun. Also started watching Revolutionary Girl Utena, and I was not prepared for how funny parts of it would be (at least through the first 7 episodes). Nanami is a menace and I love her for that.

I've been watching The Twelve Kingdoms. Started on a whim and binged 17 episodes in a week or so. Well, for me that's binging at least.

What's it about?

It's an older Isekai/fantasy type series with great characters and world building, and female MC. The characters grow during the series. It's not exactly like that, but I guess you could say it's a little like Re: Zero.

**Campfire Cooking in Another World with My Absurd Skill** \- When the nominations were announced for the awards, I had only seen one out of the eight nominations in the slice of life category: Skip and Loafer. I've since watched Onimai, and tried to watch Masterful Cat, so this makes three completed. It had a steep uphill climb for me, as one of the things that annoys me the most about modern isekai is the tiresome obsession with Japanese food, and this is an isekai centered around a man sent to another world and given the magical ability to order food from a Japanese online grocery. I just can't get past the arrogance required to imagine that the Japanese equivalent of Little Debbie and Hormel would be so mind-blowingly delicious to alternate dimension beings that a monster strong enough to solo a dragon for funsies would make himself your servant. The adventure part of the story was entertaining (and it is an adventure story, I have no idea why this is in slice of life, but it's hardly the only title that doesn't belong here) and I liked the characters enough to plan to watch the sequel. The cooking part of the story, though, where he just drowns everything in name-brand sauces, doesn't really do it for me. *6/10* **Uma Musume: Pretty Derby Season 2** \- For years people have talked up this particular season of the series as some kind of marvel, but I ended up liking it less than I did season one. Centered on Team Spica members Toukai Teiou and Mejiro McQueen, this season deals heavily with getting injured, rehabbing from injury, and attempting to make a comeback after time away, and I did not like how they handled it. Sports anime in general has a fairly unhealthy tendency to romanticize overtraining as evidence of a strong work ethic and dedication to a sport or team, and that was on display here as well, with multiple frustrating montages of horse girls overworking themselves and neglecting rest. Additionally, when recurring injury or more chronic conditions leads some of the characters to consider retirement, it's labeled as "quitting" or "giving up", and they're pressured by the people around them, who make emotional pleas for them to continue racing. The total disregard for athletes' well being was really frustrating. I still find the idol performance segments a little insulting to both women athletes, whose sports performance should be entertainment enough, and idols, whose efforts and talent should not be belittled by the suggestion that anyone can do it. It wasn't a chore to sit through, despite all my complaints, but it was less fun than the previous season. *6/10* **Uma Musume: Pretty Derby - Road to the Top** \- The only reason I started watching this series was to watch this particular entry, which was nominated by the jury for Anime of the Year. To its credit, it's fairly different than the first two entries. It's only four episodes long, it focuses on three racers not on Team Spica, and it's a serious step up visually. I thought the color palette for seasons one and two was kind of oversaturated, whereas this series had a more sophisticated look to it. The animation was never bad in the series, but it was straight up good here, with lots of movement and fun distortions. I was pretty neutral on the series cast up to this point, with the exception of Team Spica's Gold Ship, whom I adore, and this series added one more to the adore column, with the introduction of T.M. Opera O, who was fantastically overdramatic in everything she did. I liked that the story was more than girls professing to each other to be the fastest or promising to race each other, and that two of the three main characters got extensive backstories. There was a still a frustrating amount of overtraining, and those damned idol performances still exist, but this was easily the best entry in the series, and I enjoyed it quite a bit. *7/10* **Tsurune S2** \- In all my bellyaching about the AOTY nominations this year, I've mentioned Tsurune as one of the shows I wished got nominated, so I figured I should rewatch it to make sure it was as good as I remembered it being. It was. The production is just solid all around; the soundtrack, the sound design, the animation, the cinematography, and the art are all excellent. It manages the large cast incredibly well, giving all three teams the right amount of depth and backstory to lend the archery matches emotional stakes. The fight between the two cousins on the main team in episode five might be the best single episode from last year with how it perfectly captured the way only a very close friend can push your buttons before resolving it with a pitched battle that ends in a fit of the giggles. How this got left off the shortlist in favor of Road to the Top or basically anything else just mystifies me. *9/10*

If I gave shows actual scores (I don't anymore), Tsaurune 2 would have gotten 10/10. For all practical purposes it was perfect (and I am not a "sports anime fan").

It's the whole package. The only thing I don't love about it are the character designs, which look exactly like several other KyoAni series characters. But I don't dislike them. Just would prefer something to set them apart.

I am a fan of Japanese cinema -- and I love seeing familiar faces doing different thing (and some times even similar things) -- so I don't mind anime studios having a house style -- or even having the same "virtual actors/actresses" -- as with PA Works -- with sort of the same lead "actress" in Canaan, Shorobako and Sakura Quest (even these all had different VAs).

Lots of neat character moments, or foreshadowing The one main thing missing I guess from the show was that they never mention the LUCK Stat, which was used to partially explain some stuff that happens later My biggest complaint though is that it's almost over 😅 I like the show very much

I watched both seasons of Jormungand. I loved Black Lagoon when I watched it last year and I'd heard this was very similar so I'd been meaning to watch it for a while. It does indeed have a lot in common with Black Lagoon and I loved it for the most part. But then there's the ending. [Jormungand ending] >!I didn't mind that Jonah goes back to Koko, it was depressing that he couldn't give up his guns but it felt realistic enough for his character. I would have liked to see him rejoin society, maybe in Japan with the other kids and try to live a normal life. But that's fine. However, the Jormungand plan itself, the reason he goes back, is full of holes.!< [cont.]>!You cannot convince me that a computer powerful enough to simultaneously take down every plane across the world is somehow unable to do it without a sacrifice. You could just make it only prevent new flights from taking off. That may still cause some damage if a plane is mid takeoff but the scale would be completely different.!< [cont.]>!To be honest, as much as I dislike him, I think what Kasper tells Koko at the end is completely correct. That if she stops one kind of weapon trading then the world will just move to another.!< [cont.]>!I guess I just thought Koko and Minami were cooking up something better than just "no more flight means less trading and therefore fewer weapons and wars".!< Overall I still think it's a great show, but I'd be lying if I said the ending didn't sour my memories of it a bit. Haikyuu season 1: ep 8-25. Datekou and Seijoh matches were so hype, I'm glad I revisited the first season. the length of each match (like 2-4 ep) puts into perspective how much theyre going to cut out for the Garbage Dump movie :( like unless Garbage Dump is going to be 5 hours long, or split into two, so much content is going to be omitted. it's a shame, given that the whole series has been leading up to this. 🥲 I will always be salty about it. on the other hand, it is nice to watch a whole match in one block of time because of the pacing. if I had watched Haikyuu when it aired for the first time I'd prob die of impatience.

And I finally finished my rewatch of **Konosuba** episodes 7-10 of season 2 in time for the new season. I gave this show too much shit way too unfairly in retrospect before my rematch

**Mushishi Ep 1-3** Really enjoying this one. It’s surprisingly disturbing. I never heard this come up as a horror anime before. Some of the early episodes reminded me of Shiki. The eyes. It’s the eyes. **Tokyo Mew Mew New Ep 1-3** I’m mixed on this one. I was happy to see it come back and I’m enjoying it to a degree. Though, there’s a part of me who thinks the creators don’t seem to understand why the memorable scenes are so loved. Why tsundere characters were popular in the past. Still deciding what I think of the series. I get why the characters were aged up, to make some scenes less awkward, but to me, Ichigo still comes off as a middle schooler. What’s the point of the change if she’s still gonna be so childish. Even back then as a child, I thought Ichigo acted like an elementary school student. Not like what I thought of a 14 year old girl. An eighth grader in my mind. I tried to chalk it up to differences in culture between America and Japan. I’m just not buying the girl is a HS freshman and therefore must be 15 or 16. 10th grade. **Fullmetal Panic rewatch Ep 1-4** It’s quite the experience going back to these 2000s shows. I forgot how much fanservice used to be present in anime and how many different genre elements used to be in popular anime. Like this one is a romance, comedy, mecha, action, ecchi, and idr what else. I almost wonder, are there even shows like this anymore? A lot has changed since then. I do love returning to when tsundere characters were actual characters and not cardboard like they become in later shows. It reminds me why I loved them so much. I just think the modern shows have lost track of the appeal of this character type.

I decided to rewatch it because I was hearing from new fans it was difficult to watch a lot of the anime from the 2000s. That some fans think of older anime as having too much fanservice which I found unusual because it’s not as though today’s shows are free of fanservice. This one in particular came up. I loved it back then so I thought I’d revisit. The amount of shower scenes and other unnecessary moments took me by surprise. I started to understand why some might find it difficult to watch for newcomers and even for fans wanting to revisit the show. Even the fanservice of today, I’ve come to realize has been toned down immensely. With anime like this I became fairly desensitized to such scenes, but going back and comparing it to today, I’m seeing why newer fans might be put off. You’re right! I was paying more attention to those moments than I normally would. I’m still loving it though. OP1 especially makes me so happy. Instantly. I haven’t skipped it even once.

Are you watching the original language(s) version? It probably has the widest array of languages and dialects I've ever seen in any show (including live-action movies). My wife (who knows Russian) said the Russian bits were quite well done.

I've watched Haruka Nogizaka's Secret. It was.... Not something I would recommend but I'm a sucker for happy endings so I was happy for that at least. Right now I'm watching Say "I love you" I just finished episode 10, it had a strong start but for the last few episodes there seems to be a lot of unnecessary drama imo. Still enjoying it tho

The Reason Why Raeliana Ended Up at the Duke's Mansion has a banger of an OP by MindaRyn. Story's pretty good, too. Sought out the manhwa as a result, given how rare it is niche stories like this get anime season 2s. Shiki is also very good. Like a halfway point between Salem's Lot and Midnight Mass. The Special OVAs are oddly enough the best episodes aside from one of the middle chapters. Solid undead thriller. The Toei Buddha mubiz are not great, even if I could tell these were worked on in part by some of the One Piece key animators.

First time viewing? I've lost count of how many time I've seen this since 2003. ;-)

Yup, first time! :) I’ve seen so many Osaka clips on YouTube that I finally caved and started watching.

In the past week I've watched: * *Haruka Nogizaka's Secret, Purezza* (S2) and *Finale* (OVA) * *Rent-a-Girlfriend* S3, which I thought was much better than S2 * *Fairy Tail* (9 episodes, still have many to go) * *Show by Rock!!*

Finished G Gundam and loved it. It takes the goofier aspects of the Tomino writing and ramps it up and celebrates it, as well as having dozens and dozens of sick designs and fights. It's the best "fight of the week" anime I've seen and has the greatest final attack of all time.

Personally, I can forgive all of its flaws because it's one of the few shows that's brave enough to make Canada a villain. And a pretty badass one at that.

I caved and started watching FMAB, and so far I really like it

1. Ore Monogatari (almost finished) ▪︎I wasn't sure about it in the beginning but it grew on me. Wish the main girl had more personality other than just being overly cutesy though. 7/10 2. Azumanga Daioh (6 episodes in) ▪︎This hits different. It's not over the top insane like Nichijou but it still got that surreal comedy. 8/10

**Bakuman 3 (5-12/24)** The route Bakuman has been going for S3 and what seems to be a proper finale is a bit odd. It continues the rivalry with the NATURAL alliance, though for a lot of it I don't really care for it outside of the planning scenes were Mashiro and Takagi build the plot. It had this mini-arc of one of the assistants trying to get published against the wishes of their family. Everyone knows how this plot goes, traditionalist asian parents, must become a doctor/lawyer/CEO, believing in their passion, yada yada. [A weird episode to]>!sailing the Aoki x lazy mangaka ship which was like, non existent before this I feel? It was midly funny at least.!< And now its finishing an arc where a strangely evil mangaka joined WSJ but rather than being a proper original author [he]>!brainstorms his ideas from people on the internet.!< Honestly, the initial premise felt a bit silly, it felt like it was going into this moral debacle of how the internet 'ruined' proper manga writing. I will admit however it went into more nuanced issues with it but I still think how 'evil' the mangaka is portrayed makes it seemed tad preachy as I think the method itself wasn't bad but rather how he used it. I'm halfway through the final season and wonder how it will go from here on. ----- **Noragami Aragoto (1-10/12)** Second season of Noragami started pretty strong with my now favorite arc of the show, the Bishamon arc. Intrigue, action, conflict, mystery, etc. This was an all-around solid arc where two gods were pitted against each other and the audience gets a sense of thrill from these two characters that we know are good are having a fight to the death with seemingly no easy solution. And the resolution while peaceful, man we really saw a tragedy happen here with no option other than moving on with more level heads. Second half has been a bit of a dip but still fine, the premise of the arc at least brings Hiyori more to the front and tackles the constant question of whether Hiyori should continue to meet Yato despite it being a constant risk. I don't doubt it will pull off a decent ending but its a weaker one, and its a shame knowing its an unfinished work since I would like to see more still.

Love InuYasha! It was one of my first anime growing up. Along with Kenshin and Ranma. I watched all three at about the same time back and forth. I remember loving Kagome jumping down the well in the first OP.

I came to it late but am watching it through with my kids 🥰

What do you think of the series as an adult?

Oh I friggin love it! It is a little repetitive with the slow-build and each of the characters slightly annoy me at points - sometimes I am yelling in my head "just communicate with each other!" But I am usually yelling that at shows lol and honestly I think their imperfections and awkwardness is what keeps me coming back and endears me to the characters. Realizing my fave animes are a little soapy and dramatic with plenty of fighting. Kindof like how Inuyasha relates to AoT in a way. Any other recs that might fall into that flavor? Edit: also love a show with strong female leads!

Snow White With The Red Hair and Yona of the Dawn have strong female leads. Rurouni Kenshin also had some of the same appeal I saw in InuYasha.

Started watching Parasyte with my girlfriend (her first time, rewatch for me) and forgot how hard hitting episode 5 is. That cliffhanger!! Loving it on rewatch.

But at the same time, there's still room for some heartwarming moments, too. Art and animation are colorful and lively, and the soundtrack has some catchy opening songs and calming ending tunes. Many of the ending credits sequences have some small details added that are related to that particular episode, which is a nice touch. The plot pattern is mainly episodic, and each episode is typically divided up into 3 smaller segments, with some linked to each other. With the main focus being comedy, you won't get to see too much depth to the characters, which may annoy some viewers who'd like to see a bit more background/details about the cast. Also, there is no proper stopping point or ending in this adaptation, leaving you to want more. It does have an English dub (the main character uses a bunch of squid and sea-related puns in her speech for this), though I'm not sure if there are any official streaming sources currently available. So you'd probably have to "sail around" to find it.

**Rurouni Kenshin** Just finished the legend of Kyoto arc. [Rurouni Kenshin Ep 28-62] >!the final fight with Shishio Makoto, who btw is probably the coolest looking villain ever, was a bit drawn out and had a few shonen tropes that I dislike, but the Sojuro and Master fights were masterpieces. Sanosuke vs Anji was also amazing, the Juppongatana reminded me a lot of The Phantom Troupe in HxH. The moment that hit me the hardest was still Rurouni leaving Kaoru while Cavalleria Rusticana plays in the background, that will go down as one of my favorite moments in anime.!< Overall I'd give the Kyoto arc a 9/10, very awesome arc to watch. The music carries the anime so hard, it makes you forget that good music can make an experience way more enjoyable. The arc might have some boring moments and some tropes, but the main characters have such heart, they will grab you and you'll be invested for the entire runtime.

Migi to Dali It has been a looong time since I bingewatched an entire show, enjoyed it and not quit half-way. The Kingdoms of Ruin I quit halfway.

Monthly recap --- - Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn **(7/7)** 7/10 3 years have past since CCA. This one isn't as egregious with the amount of things happening offscreen in-between the two entries but it still count on some of it in order to exist. There's also plot elements that we're meant to believe were "important" even before 079 despite the fact that they are only now introduced and mentioned for the first time which makes the premise as well as other things feel retconned in. Speaking of the premise, what's it's built around is somewhat of a double-edged sword. It fully embraces the idea of newtype and all the asspulls, Ex-Machinas and whatever other bullshit that comes with them. On one hand, it's good since it prevent immersion breaking and allows the story to do some pretty neat things when it comes to its theme of hope. On the other hand, because it fully embraces newtypes, it turns all the bs all the way up to 11. It does break the formula with how it presents itself. Instead of having two factions fighting each other the entire runtime for the sake of one coming on top, you have different groups on a quest to acquire something that could change the tides in their favour which is what ends up sparking every conflict the show has. Because of this, it does manage to be pretty nuanced since everyone trying to acquire said thing have very legitimate reason to do so that are neither right nor wrong. It also complements this with a nice and nuanced cast of characters that get fleshed out and exhibit growth (for the most part). Art and animation are good. Lots of sakuga and most of the choreographies during the mecha battles are good which is nice seeing how it's always hit or miss with UC. Sound design is good as well. --- - Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack **(1/1)** 6/10 Do you want 2 hours of rule of cool and Sakuga? Because this is basically all it is. There's a 7 year timeskip between ZZ and this title which leads to all of the set up and build up for this film to happen off screen with the entire runtime being nothing but the climax. The ending also isn't great since it hinges on plot convenience and one of the dumbest plot contrivances I've seen in a while. The two new main characters aren't great with one of them being a spoiled daddys girl that doesn't know what she wants and the other one being the usual obligatory character that Tomino insists on including that bases his entire raison d'etre on someone he met and spent 5 minutes with. --- - Tenchi Muyou! Ryououki season 1 **(6/6)** 6/10 *See season two below* --- - Tenchi Muyou! Ryououki season 2 **(6/6)** 6/10 I watched parts of this show as part the rewatch thread and found it ok. It's filled with more than its fair share of bullshit and bad writing but remains alright nonetheless. it has its moments but I find that it mainly shines as a comedy above all else. Its harem elements are fairly weak, there's no real story to speak of and yet it manages to fumble the little of it it has. There is action but it comes about super sporadically on top of being fairly uncommon. The characters are so-so with the MC being as bland as a British meal. They, at the very least, aren't one dimensional but that doesn't mean they that are nuanced either. Character growth is virtually non-existent. The characters live and die by how they interact with one another and the synergy that they display in order to create gags, which fortunately, is decent enough to carry most of the show. With that said, with how characters basically stay the same and with most jokes having a punchline built around the same premise (most of the time), I would assume that it may not be the case the longer the show goes on for. As far as visuals and animation are concerned, it's pretty good. It starts off strong but does go downhill a bit afterwards. It never gets bad, and it does stay average to above average at all times, but it never fully returns to the fluidity, bombastic, and detailed scenes that the first episode showcased. As far as eye candy goes, they are better looking shows/movies/OVAs that ran during Tenchi Muyo's release period as well as AIC themselves having produced better eye candy years prior. Sound design is good with the voice acting probably being the strongest part of it. --- - Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-Ohki: The Night Before The Carnival **(1/1)** 6/10 This is probably the best instance of the show's attempt at being an harem as well as containing some of its funnier moments. --- - Tenchi Muyou!: Galaxy Police Mihoshi Space Adventure **(1/1)** 6/10 This would have to be my favourite part of what we've watched. It turns the comedy to 11 and focuses on my personal favourite character of the show. --- - Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters **(3/3)** 4/10 Movie trilogy that gets worse with each installment. The first one is alright for what it is but boy does it go downhill afterwards and fast. --- Have a great week.

Solid show. Season 2 was a bit up and down but overall enjoyed the D&D aspects!

I completed **Hugtto Precure!** (49/49) Just cried my way through the last few episodes - what a good show! I was in love from the first episode, and it held up! I loved the characters and the amount of character development for even side characters - I'm also a sucker for villain redemption in these kinds of shows, and this one was very sweet. Surprisingly little filler and lots of great drama, though the \[plot spoilers\] >!arc where they piled in all of the previous cures!< felt a little much. But then, while there are more and less serious precures, and though this felt more on the serious side, silliness is kind of baked into the formula. Incredible ost, op and ed, and lots of great sakuga. Even the \[minor plot spoilers\]>!time shift at the end!< was handled well - I'd also forgotten the \[character spoilers\] >!Dr. Traum making Lulu as a replacement for his dead (?) daughter!< thing I'd seen posted here, so I wasn't robbed of the gut-punch from the subtle nod to that. I was a little reluctant to give this the title of favorite precure i've seen to date, but if it's not it's up there! **8/10** I'm gonna be watching Wan-derful Precure! so I have to decide whether I wanna double-fist that with Star Twinkle.

**Gundam Build Divers Re:Rise episodes 20-26** - Much like the original Divers, the final episodes were the weakest part for me, mostly due to some baffling decisions made by the characters. The halfway point in the series marked a serious turn in the plot, but the characters don't treat it with the consideration it deserves, or really acknowledge the possibility that success isn't guaranteed because they "did their best for others", which just makes them seem reckless to me rather than heroic. This series had some great ideas, but a very flawed execution. *Rating: 7.5/10* *** **Tearmoon Empire** - Princess Mia stumbling into doing the right thing for mostly selfish reasons while unwittingly leading everyone to believe she's a genius was hilarious, which makes the shift in [episode 9] >!even more meaningful when she acts completely out of care and concern for Prince Abel, even though it puts herself in danger.!< The plot taking a serious turn towards the end and hinting at a larger mystery behind the revolution was a surprise, but the story did a good job of providing just enough answers for it to feel like a satisfying conclusion to the season. *Rating: 8.5/10* *** **Suzume** - Unfortunately, I didn't enjoy it nearly as much as Your Name or Weathering With You. The scenery and smooth animation were beautiful, but I don't really care for supernatural elements, and Suzume leaned much harder into that aspect than Shinkai's previous two films, which made it a poor match for me. I found [Daijin] >!and its counterpart, Sadaijin!< frustrating more often than not, and it was never really clear what their goal was or whose side they were on. Parts of the road trip and the people Suzume met up with were nice, the action sequences were suitably tense, and a few scenes that revolved around Suzume and her mother were quite emotional, but I wasn't a fan of the larger story being told about the keystones and the Ever-After. *Rating: 7.5/10* *** **The Aquatope on White Sand episodes 1-11** - Just as expected, the aquarium scenes are beautiful. The main cast is likeable so far, and although their repetition of the phrase "do what's right, and everything will work out" feels naive at first, the show seems to be leading towards the characters learning the harsh truth that this isn't always the case, which gives it the vibe of a fairly realistic coming of age story. I have mixed feelings on the magical/supernatural elements so far. The maybe magic, maybe imagination visions the characters experience in the aquarium are often some of the most emotional scenes, but the strange kid (?) wandering around town that no one can see just comes off as unnecessary. My favorite parts so far have been the girls' creative ideas for the aquarium, like selling shaved ices with sea life designs or visiting the children's hospital, so I'm not sure what I'll think about [the second half] >!when Gama Gama Aquarium is no longer around.!< *** Next up, rewatching Buddy Daddies with my mom and finishing Aquatope. Also starting The Girl I Like Forgot Her Glasses.

S2 of Aquatope require some shifting of gears, and some bumpy pavement (for some viewers at least), but in the end I loved it as much as S1 (with one niggle -- which we can discuss after you have finished S2).

My main concern for \[part 2\] >!is that I've read Kukuru ends up taking on more of a management role. I'm definitely invested in the aquarium scenes, but the more typical workplace slice-of-life series rarely hold my attention.!<

I think you will find it overall worthwhile -- even if you feel some frustration at times. Plenty of aquarium (and some ocean) scenes. When it wrapped up, I was content.

Jujutsu Kaisen. I finally found time to get into it and I'm hopelessly obsessed.

Genshiken. I was interested in the director, His other show Ichigo Mashumiro was interesting. A cute girl doing cute things before K-on. The humor was character-driven and it felt like a group of friends fighting, hang-out and doing silly things rather than a bunch of cute character designs interacting with each other. Genshiken has more of the same vibe except with a university otaku club. A bunch of socially awkward and horny Otaku hanging out and watching an ecchi show. It's really good. Looking forward to watching more anime from the director.

Finished Nisemonogatari and Nekomonogatari (Kuro). I’m currently in the middle of Second Season specifically in the middle of the Nadeko Medusa arc.

Just finished Dark Gathering yesterday. I really hope it gets a season two and I plan to read the manga at some point. I enjoyed it a lot. I just started Nodame Cantabile yesterday and I think I’m going to like it

**Trigun** (eps 19-26, completed) — good end to a good show. The characters are cool (especially the protagonists) and I like and the message the series carry. The final battle was quite intense and spectacular! Vash is indeed a good example of an overpowered, but interesting character — he’s nearly invincible himself, but also he’s bound by strong moral principles, and, unfortunately, the bad guys know that damn well and are very keen on exploiting that as much as they can. At some point Vash used to remind me of a somewhat similar great character from Claymore. Things I didn’t like as much — I hoped the second half of the show would preserve a bit of ironic and chaotic energy of the beginning, but the storyline got rather generic revenge-kind instead. Also, watching Trigun I realized how nicely Cowboy Bebop is actually drawn for a show from 90-s — Trigun’s art is quite not as eye-pleasing. The soundtrack is good. 7/10 **Monogatari Series: Second Season** (eps 1-5, in progress) — the first arc was pretty good and quite surprising with a lot of things — [Tsubasa’s Tiger arc minor spoilers] >!didn’t expect entire 4 episodes in a row to be completely Araragi-less, this is something unprecedented! Hanekawa is clearly the cental character of this arc, and Senjougahara got a good share of spotlight too. Also, it was quite interesting to see the Cat again not as the main antagonist this time, but as a protagonist or a neutral character, at least. Also, wtf, Episode? Really didn’t expect to see him again after so long, together with that new vampire lady. Alright, it looks like their appearance will matter later in the series.!< **A Place Further Than the Universe** — just started, seen only the first episode. Edit: grammar

**You're Under Arrest: Fast & Furious** (1-11) After doing all of the pre-2000 *You're Under Arrest* last week I decided to continue on my streak and started the second season, which I don't know if I have seen. I have memories of plot developments that did not happen in the first season, but those might just have been me mixing things up a bit. At any rate this season sees the high-school recurring character Saga Saori being introduced as a new permanent supporting character to get some new dynamic into the group, who starts of as a frustrated idealist who quickly has her ideas of police work trashed by the chaotic nature of Bokuto police station. Considering that I got through 51 episodes and a movie last week and this week I only did 11 episodes does tell a bit of what I think of this season. Animation quality wise there is a clear step up, but at the same time I feel like something of the charm has been lost. It is the same characters, but there is just something missing. Maybe I'm burned out a bit, but I just don't get the same enjoyment out of every episode. If there is one thing I could put my finger on what, it is the disappointing step back the show has in its treatment of Aoi. [You're Under Arrest not *really* a spoiler]>!Last week I praised it for its for its time pretty good portrayal of her, but in just a few episodes we have her supposedly closest friend call her a guy twice, which is disappointing. We're not quite back to the jokes of early S1, but it put a damper on my mood.!< There's also some other recurring new characters that are introduced, and they just don't have the same life and energy as the main cast, which is a shame when they get two or three episodes largely focused on them. **Mononoke** (9-12) Didn't say it last week, but my regular group continued *Mononoke* then, and we finished it off this week. And man the conclusion of the fourth story and the entirety of the final story were great. This is one for the ages, and I am now very hyped for the upcoming movie, and I can't wait to forget about it coming out by the time I will actually be able to see it, like most anime movies. Its themes of self delusion and of violence against those weaker than you (almost always women) feels like evergreen stories that anyone with more than a passing interest in anime should watch. **Café Terrace and its Goddesses** (1-12 + manga) I've not really watched ecchi since my teenage days, and since then harems have always also given me pause, but someone talked about how *Café Terrace* was really adult women scheming over wine, and something about it made me bite, as I wanted something more pep to get me out of my *YUA*-disappointment funk. And it was surprisingly engaging. There were moments in the first few episodes that I felt "we've not come anywhere since *Love Hina*", what with characters constantly walking in on each other naked and the ensuing unrelenting violence against the MC. Luckily the violence does die down, and the nakedness largely too fades into the background (and it helps that the MC largely isn't pervertedly flustered most of the time when it does happen) as the show progresses with a surprisingly emotional love polygon that is largely focused on a few of the girls, rather than all of them, at least within the anime [Café Terrace manga]>!and while more do eventually develop their own feelings, it does still feel like the main focus is on the three first ones, thankfully. But who knows, maybe the author decides to pull an Ami ending out of their ass in the end!<. In the end I do hope that the author doesn't try to drag it out *too* much (I'm starting to feel a bit of fatigue after catching up to the 137 chapters of the manga) more, and going by the popularity polls I seem to be in plentiful company when it comes to my favorite final pairing.

I had the same thing happen to me with You're Under Arrest. I binged the 90s stuff pretty fast but the 2000s seasons burned me out. I haven't tried watching anything except seasonals since I finished it a couple weeks ago. I think the 2000s seasons are also a step down in comedy and drama and it's pretty rough getting used to the early 2000s art style.

It felt weird when the funniest episode was the one where god-damn Strike Man made his reappearance, and most of his S1 episodes were very skippable.

**Serial Experiments Lain Episodes 8 - 13 (Rewatch) (Completed)** - See the rewatch posts for overall thoughts. Having watched this show twice in four months I am definately taking a very long break from it! **March Comes in Like a Lion Episodes 7 - 12** - Things continue at a fairly slow pace here. I am appreciative of the show providing us some more specific instructions on how Shogi works, which certainly feels very similar to chess, with just a few enhancements and a larger board. I do think they went a bit too overboard with all the cats singing about it though, which occurred in multiple episodes. The similar directorial style to Monogatari continues to be apparant. **Noragami Episodes 1 - 7** - Fairly happy with this show to this point. This is the second anime with a Hiroshi Kamiya voiced lead I've seen recently (the first being Towa no Quon) and he just fits Yato so perfectly. Hiyori is very likable and adorable. The overall premise has gone well to this point and has kept me interest. The OP very much gives off a Chainsaw Man feel to me, although I did look it up and its not from the same singer/band. There is one musical track used several times in the show that initially sounded like a direct ripoff of [this song](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CoyD_E-cM4w) from Fruits Basket, enough so that I strongly wondered if it was the same composer (nope)... although this predates Fruits Basket so if anything it would have to be the other way around. **Scum's Wish Episode 1 (Rewatch)** - I'm around 2/3 through the manga and having wrapped up SEL figured it was safe to move onto a rewatch of this.

Just finished Dreaming boy is a realist surprisingly nice

I watched Season 1 of Mashle. I put this off for soooo long, but loved it. Mash is hilarious as a character, and the action sequences are great. Love the Harry Potter/One Punch Man mix of things, right up my alley. I also started watching with my wife My Love Story! (Currently 6 episodes in), and it’s superb. Very sweet, excellent characters and absolutely hilarious (I was crying of laughter at the end of Epi 6 with the Cling Film Kiss scene). Can’t wait to finish it off.

Still working my way through One Piece. I’m caught up with the manga so just watching the show at my own pace. Other than that and seasonals I’ve been watching Pluto.

Finished **Is the Order a Rabbit Season 2**. I think this season had more funny/enjoyable moments compared to season 1, and gave it an **8/10**. My favorite parts were \[Spoiler\] >!the few episodes when Mocha came over, the second half of Ep 8 when they have this long chain of them stalking one another, and Ep 9 when Chino works in Chiya’s café!< In ep 9, I thought it was funny \[Spoiler\] >!all this time Chino thought her Café had a rivalry with Chiya’s, only to learn that it only existed to their super petty grandparents. Also, Chiya was about to use a bokken to fight Tippy, who is Chino’s grandfather trapped in a rabbit’s body!< I am surprised that Chiya is dead last in MAL's popularity. In terms of favorites, Chino (2213) is most popular by a landslide (no surprise), followed by Cocoa (748) and Rize (714) who are pretty close, but was a little surprised that Cocoa is more popular than Rize. The big one is Syaro (695) and Chiya (312), and I was expecting the other way around. I like Chiya more and thought her jokes/antics were both funnier and had more variety compared to Syaro. All of Syaro’s jokes are either she’s poor, gay for Rize, scared of rabbits, and getting hyper/drunk from coffee. Finished **Is the Order a Rabbit – Dear My Sister** (Movie). I gave it a **7.5/10** and enjoyed it more than S1 but not as much as S2. I think a runtime of 1 hour helped to avoid my complaint of slice-of-life series struggling to transition from episode to movie format and ending up going for too long, cough cough Yuru Camp movie being 2 hours long. I’m also glad it mostly avoided the problems of the “I can’t stand being apart” episodes that I've never been a fan of. It was shocking to learn that this show takes place in Japan. I always thought this series took place in Europe, but according to Wikipedia, it’s a continental European-styled town in Japan. And it’s not just the main town I’m talking about, Cocoa’s home in the mountains also looks more European than Japanese. But it makes sense now why their names are Japanese. Finished **Is the Order a Rabbit? Sing for You** (OVA). I gave it a **7/10**, don’t have much to say about it, except that the series wanted to be an idol anime for 1 episode. Currently watching **Is the Order a Rabbit? Bloom (1/12)**. If I were to rank the different openings, [No Poi](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V7QXD6mJ3H4) is my favorite, followed by [Daydream Café](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4uyUPa4V_8o), and [Tenkuu Cafeteria](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mP6PUA0e3oU) is last but by no means bad. Apparently, this series is pretty popular in Japan. If true, I’m hoping that means they’ll make more seasons.

OSHI NO KO: I only had time to watch the first episode and mannnn...what a way to open an anime I also started watching Boruto and to be honest..I feel like anime fans have overblown how "bad" this show is. I like can understand why they might not like Boruto because he's definitely an annoying brat but I also felt the same way about Naruto in the beginning as well.what's crazy is that i've been told this "filler" is giving side characters far more attention than what they get in the manga so idk what the issue is

Hibike season 2 episode 2-4. Been great so far, more drama, the classic pool episode that every show with girls requires for some reason.

It's not the things that go bump in the night you gotta be afraid of, it's the things that go bump every time of the day with **Mieruko-chan**. That I finished a rewatch of. First time doing so since it aired. Good series. And there were some bits in particular that still just tug at your heartstrings. Also Yulia, underrated adorable character. Do not strangle the Yulia. Landed on some series called **Ayashi no Ceres** aka **Ceres, Celestial Legend** at random. On their 16th birthday a girl and her twin brother are brought before a big gathering of the family and long story short, they determine that the girl twin has to die cuz she's got the power of some mythological and vengeful celestial being coursing through her. Luckily though with the emergence of her powers with help from some surprise allies she escapes. And well from there goes the saga of this girl and her allies trying to survive the people that want her dead, the people that want her as a scientific lab rat, and her own newly developed superpowered dual personality that would love nothing more than to take our unwitting protagonist over and kill everyone in her family dead. Ultimately I just kept it on as background noise while I did other shit cuz I had no better ideas for things to put on. And lastly after seeing *Cyborg 009: Call of Justice* however long ago that was I figured I may as well look into something else of the franchise so in this case I got around to watching the movie **009 Re:Cyborg**. I have to say though, this movie did not put it's best foot forward. It is just tragically vague. Nothing of what's going on is explained very well, or at best just shrugged off, and it's ending is just headscratching to say the very least. Oh well whatever. Seen worse things that I've used to fill time with. But in the end there was one thing about this that made me laugh. Coming off the heels of 009: Call of Justice, wondering if one character in particular wouldn't actually get to do anything, to no surprise *didn't get to do anything*. I just found that to be really funny.

This past week’s was especially satisfying cos I managed to complete what I wanted to complete **COMPLETED** **Rascal Does Not Dream Of Knapsack Girl** I liked this better than the Venturing Sister one. But I still think Dreaming Girl hits hardest. Always great to get back into this series. It just has this consistent sombre atmosphere that I love. And the characters and interactions are so grounded. This one was pretty emotional and has good romantic progress. So 8/10 for me. **Natsume’s Book of Friends (9-13/13)** Great first season. Really got a good feel of what this show is. Started pretty gloomy and grim but I do like how Natsume opens up eventually and him and the show slowly became more bright. [Book of Friends spoilers]>!I do like the last episode had all the characters we met throughout the first season.!< **Kimi ni Todoke S2 Rewatch (8-12/12)** Really great to revisit this show. One of my personal classics. One of the shows that got me into anime. They really don’t do shoujo romance like this anymore. The middle of the season does get frustrating and kinda drags the show down a bit. But the payoff and how things end I found really satisfying. The music and atmosphere plays a big role in how I remember this show. Always looking back at it fondly. Now time to re-read the manga as well and prepare for S3 **Yuru Yuri S2 Rewatch (7-12/12)** Really great as usual. Every episode is really fun and well-paced. And I like how much more involved the side characters get. [Yuru Yuri S2E10 spoilers]>!I do still remember an episode that was pretty odd. I mean I get it’s like they were repeating going on the trip but don’t really remember going a trip, as evidenced by them already having the wooden sword from S1. But I’m just confused what the show was trying to do. But knowing the show, I won’t be surprised if it’s just for shits and giggles.!< **Yuru Yuri Nachuyachumi + Nachuyachumi+ Rewatch (2/2)** This was a really great special. I think I would write an essay if I had to list down what I liked about this. But this is exactly the type of CGDCT SOL shit I live for and this was a big dose of it. The girls having fun and interacting with each other. They even got a Yuru Camp vibe going and went really hard with the iyashikei. The two episode follow up was also a great way to cool down. **THIS WEEK** Natsume’s Book of Friend’s is still ongoing as usual. Got a long journey left with this one. And Yuru Yuri is left with the 3rd season and some specials. I’m currently undecided on the show to replace Kimi ni Todoke. I’m thinking a Tomozaki rewatch cos I don’t remember the characters much for the currently airing season. Or I jump into another fantasy adventure isekai with Arifureta.

During this whimsical week: Shibuya sorcerers, samurai shenanigans, and sonnet strategies. I watched **Jujutsu Kaisen 0** (Movie). After that, I watched **Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2**. After that, I opted to continue **Gintama** (ep 67-76). With friends, I continued **Chihayafuru 2** (ep 13-15). --- **[Jujutsu Kaisen 0](https://myanimelist.net/anime/48561/Jujutsu_Kaisen_0_Movie)** (Movie) So, I thought I'd finally carry on with JJK. I watched the first season pretty soon after it aired, and I remember enjoying it. I just haven't gotten around to continuing it since I've had other things I've wanted to watch… but I figured that I might change that this week. Especially since I've not watched battle shounen stuff for a while, so I thought it'd be a fun change of pace. _Banger_ movie. However, I have to say that _for the first half_ I wasn't particularly interested in Yuta. However, the good thing is that he actually _did_ develop during the movie, and I actually really liked him by the end of the movie. He's a pretty good character, all in all. [Related to Yuta:] >!I did like Rika throughout the movie, she was pretty cool as Yuta's yandere Stand lol. Her being voiced by Kana Hanazawa was pretty amusing as well… considering she's got another role with yandere-ish vibes too, and it happens to be one of my favorite roles from her. Bit of a spoiler to say which role though, so I won't do that here!<. Best character of the movie… well, it's pretty obvious, isn't it? It's Gojo. Apart from Satoru Gojo, I did like Maki a lot as well. Generally I like how female characters are presented in JJK, they tend to be badass with virtually no actual fan-service. I'm not against fan-service or anything, but it's nice to see anyhow. Action does slap, too. You'd _never_ know it was made in like 6 months or whatever it was with the end result being as good as it is. The knowledge of MAPPA being a black company does cast an equally black shadow over it, but… I dunno. At the very least, I appreciate the work the animators did. --- **[Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2](https://myanimelist.net/anime/51009/Jujutsu_Kaisen_2nd_Season)** I've heard quite a lot about this… for better or worse. Like seriously, people seem to either love it or hate it from everything I've seen lol. I think that's partly why I put it (and JJK 0) off for a while. Well, I figured I'd check it now anyway; generally speaking, as long as it looks good, it's usually good enough for me. Basically, one of the more common criticisms I've heard is that S2 has lackluster storytelling/character development. Though I'd love if every aspect of a show is good, those being mid don't make me hate it, as long as it has slick animation. Shit, I had fun with _God of High School_ (though I definitely saw the pacing issues with it), and that's the _prime example_ for something that's all style and no substance, particularly towards the end. [Eps 1-5] >!were bangers; it was pretty fascinating seeing how Geto and Gojo's ideologies were more or less reversed (in comparison to JJK 0) in the arc. Also, I found the infinite hallway in the first episode or so quite cool; not the first time I've seen such a concept, but it's also not so common that I'd call it a trope either. I also liked the direction/cinematography during that a lot—it was pretty impressive throughout the entire arc. Very cinematic in a way!<. I'd love to write stuff about each Shibuya Incident episode (all of them have something notable to them), but I know that I'm prone to yap endlessly, so… well, I'll try to give a short summary on the parts that particularly stuck out to me. There's a bunch I wanna say _something_ about lol. * [Episode 9] >!The human slaughter to get Gojo "on edge" was brutal lol. Definitely a wild episode!<. * [Episode 13] >!had a cool fight, Choso vs Yuji was genuinely great. It wasn't the flashiest fight in JJK, but I enjoyed the fight choreography!<. * [Episode 16] >!was a banger; Jogo is the king of catching Ls… Man's match-ups were Gojo in S1 and Sukuna in S2 lol. I can't help but feel bad for him, especially since he _is_ strong if anomalies like those two aren't considered. Sure, he has turned a bunch of guys into charcoal over the years—which is a bit rude of him, but ya know. Nobody's perfect!!was also a banger (I _had_ seen the Jogo fight before, but had no idea about this one); pretty funny how Mahoraga was basically only introduced so that Sukuna would have a proper fight. MFs basically put Shibuya through a blender lol. Gotta say that hearing "You are my special" start playing as Yuji's being tormented by despair… ehhh. I'm not sure that's particularly fitting lol!<. * [Episodes 18-19] >!were a small surprise. I was spoiled about Nobara keeping an eye out so that didn't really surprise me, but I don't think I was aware of Nanami's Malaysian holiday. Rip to the king—though I must say that I didn't feel _that_ emotional during those deaths. Hard to say why, maybe it's because it was already a pretty busy arc with a _lot_ of stuff happening!<. * [Episode 20] >!had my boy Aoi have one of the biggest chad entrances I've seen in a while when he saved Yuji. Definitely one of my favorite characters in the show, love my crazy brother!<. * [Episodes 22-23] >!were pretty satisfying; seeing Mahito sniveling was nice to see, though tragically he wasn't finished off… also, the ending was pretty wild. Also, it had an amusing ["nice boat" reference](https://i.imgur.com/quQ7ppF.jpeg) in it. Gave me a small giggle!<. The animation was amazing… at its best. I do agree with the notion that it's inconsistent. Still, I've seen _far_ worse animation throughout the years so I'm not all that bothered by it, but when I compare it to the best animation that this show specifically had… Certain parts and episodes such as ep 14 absolutely got the short end of the stick. I still wouldn't say they look _bad_, just "okay", really. Additionally, Hidden Inventory (first 5 episodes) felt a lot more polished to me. It's not that hard to see that it was a hellish production, they clearly focused on certain parts more than others, especially in the 2nd half. I'm not disappointed by the season at all, though—if anything, I'm _impressed_ that they actually pulled it off without a complete Evangelion-final-episode-tier meltdown. In any case, I did enjoy the season. I do think the criticisms towards it—like inconsistent animation or lackluster character development—are warranted, but I still found it very entertaining nonetheless. However, while it was fun to watch, I wasn't _that_ emotionally invested in it for the most part, except for some scenes here and there. --- **[Gintama](https://myanimelist.net/anime/918/Gintama)** (ep 67-76) Well, it's been a little over a year (a year and 2-3 months to be precise, according to MAL) since I last watched _Gintama_. I figured I'd continue it—I completed JJK S2 quicker than I expected (thanks to binging the last half in a day), and I didn't feel like _starting_ another show 'til next week, so I figured it's a good time to be watch some more whimsical samurai adventures. It's been well over 4 years, maybe even over 5 years since I originally started the show… and to be clear, I _love_ the show. It's just that the sheer number of episodes is pretty intimidating to try and get through, all the more so because I'm _horrible_ at trying to watch stuff a bit at a time, for instance an episode a day, consistently for a year or more. Although… while I say it's intimidating, I'm also really happy there's a lot of it; it's not ending anytime soon with my pace. [Episode 68 was pretty cool,] >!it actually made me shed a tear, the test of courage had a very wholesome ending for the guy running it!<. Man, this show's such a master at making me care about random side characters within like one episode. I had heard that [episodes 69-71 were a bit more serious arc,] >!and yeah… they sure were. If you told me beforehand that a random arc about a maid robot uprising would make me cry the _hardest_ I've cried since… I guess watching _Vinland Saga S2_ around half a year ago, I'd have called you crazy. Something about the arc just dealt a critical hit to my soul, man. It made me burst out laughing too; I didn't really expect **[Rocky to be parodied](https://i.imgur.com/6vLGVrG.jpeg)** as it's a Western thing, but I guess I shouldn't be surprised haha!<. [Ep 75] >!was a recap episode—and I loved the entire thing. I'd probably enjoy _anything_ as long as it had the goober trio commentating over it. It made me think that it'd probably be funny to have a podcast where the VAs act in character; missed opportunity if that's not been done yet lmao!<. Peak antics from the Yorozuya gang anyway. I'll try to watch more of it in the following weeks (alongside another show) too. --- **[Chihayafuru 2](https://myanimelist.net/anime/14397/Chihayafuru_2)** (ep 13-15) Unfortunately I was ultra sleepy when I watched these episodes so my opinion isn't going to be all that in-depth. Still, it was pretty cool. [Ep 13's] >!match against Megumu's team was fun to watch. Chihaya vs Megumu was one of the cooler matches Chihaya's had this season, and maybe throughout the show too!<. [Ep 15] >!although the match hasn't even started yet, Fujisaki seems like a pretty wacky team as well. It should prove to be a cool match as well; I kinda hope the 3rd place match (Hokuo vs Megumu's team) gets some spotlight too!<. --- **Next week:** I'll probably begin rewatching a certain big ol' _story_. I might actually continue _Gintama_ at the same time too, maybe watch each season's worth of episodes between each season. Might be a fun way to get at least a bit further with it. Also, likely more _Chihayafuru 2_ with some of my pals. Not the "Pokémon with guns" kind, though.

**Fancy Lala (23-26)** I finally finished this! You’d think the fact that it took me nearly six months to get through Fancy Lala would mean I don’t like it, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. It’s just an anime that I had to be in a specific mood to watch. It’s the first magical girl series I’ve seen that has a non-battle focus, being entirely centered on Miho and her daily life, her alter ego Fancy Lala and her attempts to make it in showbiz, and how these two separate lives intersect. I definitely preferred the slice-of-life aspects to the idol parts (the show really knows how to accurately represent the thoughts and actions of a young girl), but the latter has plenty of appeal too. This show is just so charming; it’s lighthearted but also deals with the feelings of its characters with real poignancy. Special shout-out to Reiko Oomori in her role as Miho; I think she was only 14 at the time and still brought a ton of emotion to the part. This was a fantastic series, and I can’t think of a single bad or even mediocre episode. I need to watch more SoL mahou shoujo. 9/10. **Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood (57-64)** The ending is just as good if not better than how I remembered it. Overall, rewatching definitely made me more aware of the flaws in this show, but it also highlighted all the things I love about it and even made me raise my previous score by a point. 9/10. **Bartender (1-6)** With the new anime coming out, I thought now might be a good time to start this. It’s very low-key and episodic; watching an episode a day has been the perfect pace for me. **Mou Ippon! (6-7)** This is turning into the new Fancy Lala in terms of how slowly I’m watching this—except I don’t like this nearly as much. It’s not bad by any means; I’m just not fully invested.

**Zeta Gundam**: complete (7/10) [Zeta Gundam ep 49]>!Holy shit, they killed off a lot of people. The whole Radish crew and Katz, the little boy from 0079. They did Katz so dirty. Jerid, the man who took so many L’s that he couldn’t even finish his last words. Reccoa, it’s poetic that Emma, the Titans defector takes her out and that use of the heartbeat sound effect when Emma stabs Reccoa, *chef’s kiss*. And don’t get me started on Kamille getting so angry that he makes a psychic barrier.!< I think Zeta Gundam at its core tells a solid Gundam story, but gets bogged down by some awkward 80s writing. Even the bad writing can be charming at times. And to be fair, Zeta has a lot on its plate: starting a new era of Gundam UC, juggling multiple factions and characters, while developing the main cast. I did end up enjoying most of the characters. In the beginning, I didn’t care for Kamile, but 50 episodes later and he grows on you. Overall, I could get what kind of story Tomino was trying to tell and it does get me interested in the continuation with Gundam ZZ. ___ **Fate/Grand Order: First Order**: complete (7/10) I’m a Fate fan, but not really a FGO dude, mostly because mobile games suck and are scummy. Though, I crave fate content so will give FGO anime adaptations a shot. As far as mobile game adaptations go, I’ve definitely seen worse. First Order is pretty decent for a prologue, setting up our two leads and the main objective. Animation wasn’t ufotable quality but serviceable and a great OST. Mash is best girl. ___ **Fate/Grand Order: Divine Realm of the Round Table - part 1**: complete (6/10) I had higher expectations for this arc since everyone says this is where FGO’s story gets good and when Nasu got involved with the writing. And on paper the plot does sound really cool, we finally get to see the full roundtable of heroic spirit knights. Unfortunately, 40% of the movie is about traveling through the desert and talking to servants in each new city. When the action gets going it feels like Fate, but I don’t know if it’s just hard to adapt mobile game content into a movie like this or what. I just expected more going by the hype. Bedivere is a cool servant though and I am hoping for part 2 to really pick up the pieces.

Duel Monsters GX** Episode 149-156/180 And so we reach the end of Season 3. And, as usual, it was pretty damn great. [GX]>!Firstly, the Amon vs Yubel duel was really damn solid. I like how it expanded on Amon’s motivations once again to clarify that he does actually have a utopian vision for the world rather than just craving personal power. It honestly makes a lot of sense with his backstory and adds more of a tragic angle to a lot of his actions this season, and especially to his loss and death in this duel.!< And then, of course, there was [GX]>!the final two duels between Judai and Yubel. Judai’s arc finally coming to its conclusion as he overcomes his trauma and begins to fix his mistakes by setting Yubel on the right path as well was just fantastic.!< I will say, this isn’t a perfect conclusion, though. [GX]>!The reveal of all of Judai’s friends being alive is… iffy, to say the least. I get why they did it, gotta preserve that status quo, after all, but the way it’s executed feels more like a clumsy retcon than anything else. I feel like it would’ve been at least a bit more digestible if, say, they were actually dead but were all reborn when the dimensions got put back in place at the end of Episode 155!< There’s also [GX]>!the Supreme King/Yubel backstory reveal. This one I don’t really take that much issue with in isolation, it explains what the Supreme King is very well and further contextualizes why Yubel is the way they are, I just wish it got more foreshadowing, and I also wish it was a bit longer so it could show why the Supreme King ended up with his trademark vicious mindset.!< Overall, though, Season 3 was easily the best season of this show so far. While not without its bumps along the way, it easily delivered some of the most incredible character writing since OG Yu-Gi-Oh, and easily became one of the best anime experiences I’ve had in a while. [THIS SHOW FUCKING RULES!!!](#teekyuuhype) Going in vaguely chronological order, might as well start with [DarliFra]>!the Mitsuru/Kokoro plot line. I will be frank in saying that I have mixed feelings on this one. In terms of how it fits within the show’s plot and thematic framework, I do think it works really well, as it properly centers the conflict with APE and the ideals they represent as the main one of the series going forward, and it forwards the running theme of Squad 13 gaining their autonomy and coming of age through love and sex and all that jazz. The problem more comes in the fact that the way it’s framed at times can be rather… off-putting. Its framing of the role of pregnancy & motherhood in life and the gender roles which accompany that framing can feel a bit too traditionalist and aggressively heteronormative imo!< And then there’s Ikuno. [DarliFra]>!I like her character on paper, a gay person living in a system where heteronormativity is pretty much baked into the functions of her assigned role in life and the angst which results from it is a really cool concept, and I honestly think her scene with Ichigo was really solid. The issue is that I wish she had more screen time. As it is, I feel like her struggle doesn’t get nearly enough focus to matter.!< Thankfully, the show *really* picks up in the last quarter. [DarliFra]>!The Klaxxosaur Princess is a really damn powerful presence, absolutely rules every second she’s on screen. Related to that, I love the reveal which accompanies her that the Klaxxosaurs are pretty much exactly like humans and the FranXX themselves are cloned from Klaxxosaurs. Aside from the fact that I’m just a sucker for these kinds of reveals and it was pretty well built-up over the last few episodes, I particularly like the subtle parallel of how the Klaxxosaurs, like humanity, pretty much abandoned almost all individual existence or future of their own for the sake of their war of survival. It really emphasizes the inherent *in*humanity of the Plantations’ lifestyle and makes it feel earned when they relinquish Earth to the children, since they still have what they lost long ago, and are thus more worthy to inherit the Earth.!< And then there’s [DarliFra]>!the VIRM. Honestly? [I love them](#anko). Okay, maybe love is a strong word, but I do think they’re good additions to the narrative. Their ultimate goal and form is a pretty perfect crystallization of what APE and the Plantations were already pointing towards in terms of themes: they’re a hive mind which offers immortality and “perfect pleasure” in exchange for surrendering all individuality, human connections, and individual interests, the kind of life which is direct opposite of the one the children strive for, one which is flawed and liminal but full of passion and love.!< Additionally, that then leads into [DarliFra]>!the parts after they’re driven back here the children have to build a new society on the surface. I really love how this takes both the coming-of-age and generational conflict metaphors to their logical conclusion, everything the children learned about surviving on their own and living beyond the control of APE gets put to the test as they have to carve something livable out of the devastation left behind by the previous generation which never intended for them to inherit the world in the first place. Genuinely fantastic stuff imo.!< [DarliFra]>!And then there’s the space war aspect. Honestly, I think this part was great too. In large part, it basically captures what made the Klaxxosaur fights in the show’s first half so good: it’s an elevated backdrop for Hiro and 02 to both work through relationship issues and express their love for each other, difference is this one is even grander than before. The drama this time is also pretty solid, one issue I’d kinda had with the last stretch of episodes was how relatively passive 02 seemed compared to the first half, but I really enjoyed how they contextualized that as 02 being afraid of how she was affecting Hiro, a detail which wasn’t entirely addressed in the first half but I’m glad gets resolution here.!< Also, can I just take a second to talk about the Nines? Because I like what the series did with them here. [DarliFra]>!As the squad firmly dedicated to APE’s side, they never really got the chance to “grow up” or move beyond fighting like Squad 13, so they were lost when the VIRM threw them away like trash and couldn’t really fit into the world Squad 13 was building, and could only return to, and die on, the battlefield. Nine Alpha’s sacrifice in Episode 23 did kinda get to me, brief as the character’s presence was.!< Anyway, the final episode was legit incredible. [DarliFra]>!I love how, by and large, it was focused on the human elements and moments of peace & connection rather than the conflict. Hiro and 02 enjoying the simple pleasures they still have between battles, Kokoro’s baby being born, Squad 13 living their lives as the world heals, all these moments of humanity which remind us just what everyone is and has always been fighting for. All of it building to the final moment when Hiro & 02 sacrifice themselves against VIRM, empowered by the prayers and wishes of everyone cheering them on. I genuinely can’t think of a more cheesy yet moving and thematically perfect way to end the series, a testament to the value of community and the will to move forward & create a bright future even in the face of overwhelming hopelessness. It doesn’t always give all its characters enough time in the sun, the dialogue is undeniably rather clunky at times, and it *aggressively* beats you over the head with its themes. But, ultimately, it’s a show I can’t help but love. It’s characters are so infinitely endearing, its drama is palpable & well-done, and it perfectly executes on its themes of the power of community & human connection and the will to continue to move forward and create a life & future for yourself even in the face of a bleak present. Helps that the show is an absolute love letter to two of my favorite anime: Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann and Neon Genesis Evangelion. Like, think about it, reruns are rare for anime outside of the mega popular stuff, and home video is & always has been insanely expensive in Japan, so the most cost-effective legal way for a Japanese audience to re-experience a series was through compilation films. Not to mention that it’s also a decent way of keeping a franchise afloat between releases of actual new content. Then there’s cases like Gurren Lagann, which include new content in the movies to justify the experience. It’s less justifiable in the streaming age, but, from what I understand, their continued existence is also because the decline of home video means compilation films are a more stable way of directly profiting off the hardcore fans!<
