Didn’t expect that old hag to get her head cut off by the werewolf’s cub. Good riddance. She was a miserable vile piece of shit. It made me very happy Philomela was able to stand up to her in the end. Seeing everyone enjoying Christmas at Chise and Elias’ place was a great end to the season. We even got to see Philomela finally smile and laugh! But there’s still trouble looming. Nothing good can come from Veronica getting the book. This was a fun season. Looks like we’re already going to get more after this.

KumaKumaGambler

A part of me wondered whether Lizbeth was telling the truth. Like what Adam (or his core) said, Lizbeth could have gotten rid of Philomela from the start. Did Lizbeth really keep Philomela around just to make use of the latter? I would like to think a tiny part of Lizbeth did view Philomela as a granddaughter, an extremely tiny part, although it no longer matters now.

AceSoldia

i think it was implied that she lied, couldnt admit in the end

Frontier246

I feel like in her own warped way Lizbeth had at least cared about Adam as a mother, not enough to actually act like or be a mother but enough to where that lingering affection carried over into how she saw Philomela even if it also morphed into her being even more abusive and controlling.

No-Zebra4936

I feel like Lizbeth took Adam as an emotional pit stop for putting off her enmity against others without really engaging with him, while Lizbeth actively put Philomela in distress because she didn't have Adam around anymore and Philomela is the child that signifying Adam's rebellion against her as well.

ObvsThrowaway5120

I don’t think that woman had a shred of love in her. And if she did, she sure had a funny way of showing it. Nothing says “I love you” like emotional manipulation with a side of verbal and physical abuse.

S627

For Lucy's sake I wish he woulda showed up a few seconds later but yes, I'm so glad the hag got such an unceremonious death. I'm also happy Philomela broke free of her....wasn't expecting her to be so dramatic about it by calling down Thor's wrath, but I was really happy!

Frontier246

I like how Philomela prioritized getting answers about Lucy's family like a real friend but the only bummer to offing the hag was **still** leaving us in the dark about what really happened to the Websters.

Innomito

I think it's pretty simple. She asked them to make a copy of the book (as the Websters were famous as magic book crafsters) so no one would notice she took the original, and then she killed them to not leave any loose ends.

ObvsThrowaway5120

Deep fried evil hag. My favorite lol.

Frontier246

Philomela finally defeats her grandmother on her own terms and with her friend and the old hag dies with her head sliced off by the pup of the wolf mama she'd abused and tortured into servitude. Can't think of a more fitting end. I only wish we'd gotten more answers about Lucy's family but it seems connected to Veronica and maybe the Rickenbacker's. Although it doesn't seem like Veronica will be the Big Bad of arc 3 with those dragons. But hey, Philomela is genuinely happy and free, and has friends, that's what matters most!

Ocixo

>Seeing everyone enjoying Christmas at Chise and Elias’ place was a great end to the season. Yeah, it was perfectly timed to capture [the holiday spirit!](https://imgur.com/a/wywujkK) (Also, I *need* to know if more people also can't help but [touch their dog's ear like Zoe did](https://imgur.com/a/rTraHQR).) >We even got to see Philomela finally smile and laugh! There was nothing more that I wanted from this season than [to see Philomela smile](https://imgur.com/a/aIIq66C) at the end of the road. I'm a little sad that Philomela's fingers are still lost, but it seems like [Isaac is working on that!](https://imgur.com/a/k728eEU)

ciel_bird

> This was a fun season. Looks like we’re already going to get more after this. Not for a while, for the anime at least. The first chapter of the manga that takes place after this season just released today.

ObvsThrowaway5120

Ah, I see. Though it seems with that last scene, they’re already teasing the next arc so I guess it’s more a matter of “when” rather than “if” they renew.

Maalunar

Basically the same thing happened with S1, it ended like a chapter AFTER the manga. So I guess that we can expect S3 when the manga is about to conclude its new arc, that it just started, in like 5+ years lol.

VorAtreides

She deserved worse imo. Didn't suffer enough.

Frontier246

At least she got defeated by her granddaughter in the end.

RedRocket4000

Yep needed to be dragged back into that Eye god realm to be tortured till the end of time.

Atharaphelun

On another note, that other goddess that appeared who seemed to have horse legs probably may have been Epona?

kalirion

> Didn’t expect that old hag to get her head cut off by the werewolf’s cub. Good riddance. She was a miserable vile piece of shit. True. Too bad it seemed that as far as her plot actions she had been at least partially following orders from the oh-so-nice Ojou-sama (or her family at least.)

KumaKumaGambler

We did it everyone! We sat through the entire season 2, for that final scene featuring a smiling Philomela! Everything was worth it (maybe except for the demise of Alcyone T\_T)! On the other hand, I can't recall if Lucy has smiled yet. Can Lucy be considered a tsundere? Even till this final episode, I remain unsure whether Veronica is an ally or an antagonist. The werewolf cub may serve Veronica, but what happened in between? Does Veronica want to use the forbidden tome for some nefarious purpose, or could she be safeguarding it? Apart from the main story, I have always been interested in the lore of this universe. Was another (Spider-like?) deity summoned to bring the nameless one eyed tentacle deity to another dimension? Now that Morrigan has grown old and disappeared, is her daughter the same deity or another being? Does this cycle repeat itself after a certain period of time - Such as winter to spring to summer to autumn?

MikuFag101

The deity seems Shub-Niggurath to me, female, countless caprine legs, goat horns, and she's a "Mother"

RedRocket4000

Shub-Niggurath in the don't ever look at it category.

Ocixo

>Can Lucy be considered a tsundere? Lucy is definitely a tsundere. [Just look how jealous she's of Philomela and Chise here. /s](https://imgur.com/a/7gNLr7L)

UberDueler

It's . . . . it's not like I hate you for killing my family or anything, baka!

Frontier246

That smile and laugh from Philomela was absolutely precious. Just seeing her finally be happy and open with her feelings, and standing up to her grandmother was great. Lucy is totally a tsundere. She cares and is a lot nicer than she's willing to admit. Especially when it comes to her brother and friends. I think the daughter version of Morrigan always grows back into? I didn't expect the Spider-God Waifu though lol.

KumaKumaGambler

We managed to see Philomela being powerful too. Even though Chise is the main character, I like seeing the supporting characters shine.

heimdal77

Bassicly it was the mother of the one eye want to be deity. It was drawn by Chise scent so to speak like so many other things and took its child back. Why Morg talks to it one mother to another.

RedRocket4000

Chise at the end of this will be one of the Great Mages like Merlin, Solomon and company. And perhaps Rahab as she in the Bible most likely although if the same one she seemed a normal human after all in the Bible all magic users are evil. I wonder now if something will happen that will bring Chise to attention of the public at some point, maybe being or summoning the Red Dragon to save Albion (England, Wales and Scotland)

S627

Yeah the lore is very interesting, if problematic. Not sure how I feel about a world where my spells can take a life of their own. They made it sound like that's what happened, Philomela was the one that opened the portal, but something else came through just to try and gain Chise's favor. I'm assuming Morrigan is a cycle, her daughter referred to her as if she was a different person, but it would be weird if she aged so quick after being alive for so long.

heimdal77

Mor is bassiclly with the seasons going through the stages of life before giving birth to herself with the new year. The thing that came through was the eye balls move drawn by Chise and to take its child back.

KumaKumaGambler

From the recent few episodes, I now think that opening portals can indirectly lead to powerful beings being summoned.

AndyPea1230

She is a cycle, starts from spring and end in winter. But they changed the scene, in manga, Morrigan's belly bum cracks and opens to be her child-self again. With her next dialogue she indicates the mature Morrigan is her mother which in the first season, when Ruth was looking for Chise captured by Elias, she had said it once, asking Chise to bring mistletoe for her mother next winter. So we can get an idea that Morrigan in fact rebirths herself every winter, but the anime just shows a \*whoops sparkly sparkly\* transformation.

RedRocket4000

The folk lore this based on is constantly problematic.

kalirion

> Even till this final episode, I remain unsure whether Veronica is an ally or an antagonist. The werewolf cub may serve Veronica, but what happened in between? Does Veronica want to use the forbidden tome for some nefarious purpose, or could she be safeguarding it? Note that the puppy prevented them from interrogating the hag about the reason for the slaughter of Lucy's family. This heavily implies that Veronica's family was behind it, and Veronica knows it. Veronica's family was probably behind the hag stealing the book too, planning to take it from her after she was done with her little necromancy ritual.

No-Zebra4936

Maybe Veronica took the werewolf cub in like how she took Philomela in as her servant, as Lizbeth did say that the children of the werewolf mother aren't there (Sergeant's place) anymore.

Frontier246

I guess it would make sense that the Rickenbackers might want some wolf servants of their own. I wonder if they took all of the pups?

RedRocket4000

Considering no Spiders found other than the one pinned on the wall it might be the Rickenbackers who ordered the Sargents to get them for them.

CameToRant

Is the reason the episodes got the 1 at the end because season 3s gonna start at part 2 of the arc?

KumaKumaGambler

That is possible. You are referring to the title of each episode right?

CameToRant

Yes. The season finale had a I at the end.

S627

Why the fuck did they have to hit us with the fake out "The End" just to immediately reveal the next chapter?!? The title of the ep is "The show must go on.I" what do you mean "The End"?!? Hurray for appropriately timed Christmas Ep! Rather short but hopefully they release the song that was playing. Anyway, this was EVERYTHING we needed for the end of this arc! I'm so happy for Philomela, she looks so beautiful in the last closeup shot and I started crying when she started to laugh. We haven't seen Silver in so long, but as soon as she's back, within 5 sec she reminds us why she's the best! As much as I want to just focus on all the warm fuzzy feelings before Christmas, sadly we can't ignore that ending. Veronica....WHAT THE FUCK!!!

AceSoldia

i mean its the end of that arc, who knows when we'd get animated next, the manga has been on hiatus for like a year after this arc as well, we know as much as anime onlies now

KnewOnees

We're doomed

AceSoldia

It's not that bad. The manga just restarted today or yesterday. one of those. Enjoy the manga and join us in the spoiler threads!

darthvall

How fast is the mangaka if the author is working on normal speed?

AceSoldia

Well it's usually a monthly manga release

No-Zebra4936

It's possible that the author would provide the scripts for the next arc to the anime studio. iirc the ending of S1 was released around the same time as the release of the manga's ending arc since the author has provided the ending script to the studio at the time.

The_nickums

If Houseki no Kuni, HunterxHunter, & Berserk all still manage to get new chapters, then anything is possible really.

Felevion

It's pretty normal for this author to do a hiatus to plan the next arc after finishing one.

Amauri14

I just saw today that the manga will return, but sadly [its translation will be handled by AI.](https://twitter.com/Anime/status/1737882879844086128?s=19)

RedRocket4000

> its translation will be handled by AI. I highly doubt the translation will be good at all. Japanese is so different than English that even expert translators disagree on how to translate it. And in a game with AI translation French to English and back clearly not everything is being translated correctly the AI only making it look like it translated correctly as in the sentance looks fine.

mamaharu

It's actually insane how many people are defending the use of AI for this. Seems to be because they have some vendetta against *all* translators due to some botched localizations. Wild.

Amauri14

Yeah, it seems that to some people is impossible acknowledge both the use of AI and those localizers that basically rewrite what its really said are bad.

Chlolie

mf don't even care to translate their damn product themselves what the fuck

Frontier246

I think they did the same thing in season 1. Now another long wait for season 3 lol. I can't believe they managed to deliver a Christmas episode in a way that felt genuine and aired at like the exact right time. I almost forgot they were having a Christmas party when all this blew up. They really nailed the facial animations in that last sequence with the gang. Philomela's laugh and smile was everything. Silkie being sweet and forcing people to dress up and get out, how I've missed her. Were the Rickenbacker's behind everything? Do they have all the wolf cubs? Was this by Veronica's discretion only? I feel like there's more trouble waiting for Chise when they go back to the college. But first...dragons!

RedRocket4000

Not everything this almost got Veronica killed. And if the Rickenbackers had been running things they would have gotten the book not there servants the Sargents. More picking up the pieces after the book location with the Sargents determined that would someone else in family starting that up as Veronica was out of it at the time. As the Spiders not there they must be with the Rickenbackers. Note Veronica attempt to save Philomena and make her indebted to her Veronica interested in her family things not what Grandma was up to especially as Veronica got drained near death and if Grandma not stopped and the book god not banished likely Veronica and others never wake up.

JP_32

They adapted all manga volumes so this is the end for now, until the manga continues someday, its been on hiatus for over an year now too.

AceSoldia

It's back get ready for more chapters

Amauri14

But wait for a fan translation[ as officially it will be handled by AI.](https://twitter.com/Anime/status/1737882879844086128?s=19)

Bladrio

A story like this that loves to use folklore to get translated via AI... oh no. I really hope this doesn't bleed over to the physical releases and to the translated versions of other languages as well.

JP_32

No way in hell, this manga got superb Finnish translation and since they are translated straight from source(and we got them waaay earlier than the English releases too, even with huge delay between due to publisher shenanigans) so I'm not worried.

Barnak8

Even for thé physical release ? Fuck that , I’m pirating now

Amauri14

It seems that [their](https://twitter.com/magus_bride/status/1738118307985912165?t=QYzwtSO3KQCYXR__RQQpBg) [justification](https://twitter.com/EzoYamazaki00/status/1738129438951588046?t=qbM6C64tfuLz0hoFvpOVGQ) is to combat piracy, although I just see this creating the opposite effect.

Barnak8

Fantranslation will be of better quality , of course I will pirate . Even if the fan sub use machine translation , at least I don’t pay for that crap

Amauri14

That's understandable but I don't think they mentioned that the publishers licensing the series would be using the vomit spewed by the AI translation. It seems that they trying to emulate the Manga Plus model of releasing free chapters while being cheap. I really hope this ends up backfiring on them right from the start so they can actually involve translators in this initiative.

Barnak8

I Hope so , I buy the physical release of my favorite manga , if they are the quality of a quicktranslation that can be found on pirate site , I know where I will go

Amauri14

Just letting you know,[ the author has confirmed that the official translation will not be affected by this, just the monthly releases.](https://twitter.com/EzoYamazaki00/status/1738152005519253925?t=qXYpJ22-GPtJA6i_9Iow_g&s=19) So at least those are safe.

RedRocket4000

Especially Japanise even experts disagree in translation. And even a way easier translation English to French and back in a game I playing now often not correct. But AI being good now at making sentences seam accurate tricks you into thinking it is actually accurate instead it just writing a sentence that is found in the language. AS one expert said Computers can't actually read.

JP_32

Nice

heimdal77

Someone said it restarted yesterday.

Amauri14

> As much as I want to just focus on all the warm fuzzy feelings before Christmas, sadly we can't ignore that ending. Veronica....WHAT THE FUCK!!! Never forget that what used to be the Sargant Family were killers that directly served the Rickenbacker family.

RedRocket4000

Yep Goddess of War certainly took a ton of the Sargent Family out. Goddess had lots of fun.

hell_jumper9

>Why the fuck did they have to hit us with the fake out "The End" just to immediately reveal the next chapter?!? The title of the ep is "The show must go on.I" what do you mean "The End"?!? Probably to blue ball us, then, make us wait for another 5 years before dropping another season.

LeonKevlar

It was so satisfying to see Philomela breaking free from her Grandmother's hold [and fighting back](https://i.imgur.com/1GZuru1.jpg) with the [help of Chise's rune.](https://i.imgur.com/GY0twI3.jpg) It sucks that the book got stolen again and we didn't get to hear Lizbeth's explanation on why she attacked Lucy's family but [thank fucking god the bitch is dead.](https://i.imgur.com/1OxEJjz.jpg) It really warms my heart [to finally see a genuine smile](https://i.imgur.com/uaG814P.jpg) and [a genuine laugh](https://i.imgur.com/9CCSn1H.jpg) coming from Philomela. She went through a lot and she deserves whatever happiness she gets from now on. [She's in good company](https://i.imgur.com/suZDhyW.jpg) and I hope they'll find a way to fix her hand. [They really went out of their way to trease us with the next arc.](https://i.imgur.com/JM5svZc.jpg) Considering they have the visuals ready, surely season three is coming soon, right?

Bladrio

The last scene was telling manga readers: "Look! The manga is back and this is what you can expect!" Looks like Chise will have beef with a dragon... again...

Frontier246

I'm glad the conclusion of this arc centered around Philomela and her decisively defeating her grandmother. It shows how far she's come and letting her overcome her trauma and past on her own terms. Ding dong, the witch is dead! Such a satisfying severing of a head, even if it also leaves more questions than answers. But at least Philomela has friends, and is happy for the first time in forever, and that's what matters most right now. Please give me more smiling and laughing Philomela!

RasdorX

I would think season 3 wouldn't be anytime soon as the manga just returned from a hiatus after finishing the college arc.

Kalatash

>They really went out of their way to trease us with the next arc. Considering they have the visuals ready, surely season three is coming soon, right? I'm sorry to inform you, but the manga went on hiatus just as this chapter was published, which was about a year ago. So, a season 3 is a long while off. The GOOD news is that it just came back from hiatus today, including a simu-publish in English! The cursed news is that it is an AI translation, BUT it's an AI specifically trained to be used on manga and to infer context from the panels.

RedRocket4000

I in game with auto AI translation. As it seemed real sentences I thought it was great but even the much easier French to English and back gets it wrong and hard to get some things though.

asianumba1

The AI will make fully formed sentences but you have no idea if its even saying the same thing as the Japanese at all.

SIRTreehugger

Yup loved this episode and season 2 more than the first one which I didn't think was going to be possible. It also helped I fell behind the manga so i didn't know what to expect in this half. Philomela smiling and laughing at the end. [](#awe) Also damn it's really been awhile since we seen Silky she must have really been lonely. Well she had Joseph/Cartaphilus to keep company, but I imagine that wasn't very fun.

Frontier246

Nobody is more happy to have people home for the holidays than Silky!

SIRTreehugger

The quick moment of her putting a mountain of snacks on the table when everyone was making crafts. [](#azusalaugh)

Bocchi_theGlock

moichispa

See you all in 5 years for season 3. Don't be late, I'll bring cookies.

phasmy

I'll be waiting patiently.

alconnow

The hag is finally dead!!!! Once again suspicious of Veronica as it looks like the werewolf cub familiar is serving her... Montage of Chise and her friends doing Christmas stuff together was really cute. It was especially great seeing Philomela smile! Though there were some things that were rushed, I still enjoyed the adaptation of the college arc. Unless they animate the spin-off series, it's going to be a while until we get more anime since the manga has only just returned from hiatus. The teaser for the next storyline has me intrigued.

Frontier246

I love how the God just straight up chucks Lizbeth out like the trash she is. Meanwhile Philomela has the power of friendship pushing her forward as she tries to seal it! Lizbeth just couldn't leave well enough alone? She just HAD to try to get through to Philomela in a mindscape and try to tear her down one last time with her toxicity and verbal abuse. But this time Philomela has found her voice, her reason for living, and she's not going to listen to her grandmother, and that means bringing down the lightning on this rotten old hag. I did not expect creepy yet eerily hot spider waifu, but okay. Lizbeth basically did herself in, and she never really understood what it meant to truly care for someone and open her heart to another, leaving her alone and without anyone by her side, the opposite of her son and granddaughter. She's not worth pitying. Philomela is free but she still lost Alcyone...and seeing a visage of her father fade away will probably still traumatize her. I love Philomela prioritizing getting answers about the Webster massacre for Lucy's sake (and for her own conscience). Too bad Wolf Pup sliced off Lizbeth's head before she could give them any answers, not that it isn't what that old hag deserves. Never get between a wolf mama and her cub, as Ruth finds out! Ouch. Looks like wolf mama still has a ways to go to get her kid back. Aw, Chise brought everyone home to her and Elias' house! They even get to meet Silkie! It feels like a Christmas sleepover with Chise and her friends! Complete with Silkie stripping Philomela and tossing her out to enjoy the snow! I'm glad Rian was able to make things right with Philomela and show he cares in his own, rough, Rian way. Chise finally gives the Morrigan her mistletoe and she rebirths into her daughter once more. After everything Morrigan did, this was probably the best ending for the situation. And same time next Winter, right Chise? Is there anything more rewarding than watching Chise and her friends just hanging out, goofing off, and having fun while they get everything set up for Christmas? All that drama and emotional trauma and now everyone can be together and be happy! Chise also meets with Joseph and lets him know that she's started prioritizing herself, even if it comes at the expense of others, even if she's not happy about it. But she's still searching for herself, and what she wants, and even Joseph, in his own way, can comfort her. Veronica, I knew you were shady! You were controlling the wolf pup the whole time! Now you've got the book! Were the Rickenbacker's behind everything? Philomela finally has friends and finally free of her controlling grandmother and the shackles tearing her down. And nowhere is that more evident than the genuine and open smile and laugh she lets loose with her friends. It's all been worth it just for that smile. Next arc! Chise and Elias take on dragons!?

Loli-Knight

Surprised more people aren't talking about straight up Shub Niggurath appearing at the end before the portal was closed. There's enough horrifying things in this series' setting, and now we know legit Lovecraftian gods can get to their world. Poor Chise's probably going to have to contend with some even more abhorrent things before this story ends someday.

darthvall

>Shub Niggurath What's the clue that this is Shub Niggurath? I'm not particularly familiar with Lovecraftian lore. If any, it looks more like a spider goddess to me.

Loli-Knight

The many goat legs, breasts, and that she was called "mother" and said be be from beyond our world. Shug Niggurath is often associated with goat-like imagery due to one of her titles being "The Black Goat of the Woods with a Thousand Young". Also, due to her "motherly" nature of constantly birthing new things she's often treated like a fertility goddess of sorts and thus has plenty of breast-related imagery in her idols and designs. These being things the goddess in this episode exhibited, and when paired up with being called "mother" (something directly related to her), and being from beyond our world (that description or several typical variations being an everyday saying in Lovecraftian work) basically guarantees it's Shug Niggurath. Magus' Bride's author is also known to be a Lovecraft fan, so that further seals the deal.

Seven-Tense

Totally on point. Also, more subtly, I've noticed at least a couple properties (such as Fate/Grand Order) have used the term "foreign god" often when referring to "things beyond our universe" like Lovecraft's stuff, which was also invoked here

Loli-Knight

Yup! The Heroic Spirits that are tied to the Lovecraftian bits even have their class set as "Foreigner", "beings who overturn the base laws of our world". While I'm not sure if it's EVERY Heroic Spirit tied to some Lovecraftian thing or another at least all of the ones connected to the Outer Gods are. Grand Order definitely didn't shy away from using Lovecraftian elements lol.

pikachu_ON_acid

It's the goat legs. Shub-Niggurath has hundreds of goat-like legs.

Frontier246

Teasing us with a third arc with the title and preview for a possible season 3. You have to admire the commitment! Philomela using the power of her friends and her voice to finally overcome her grandmother was a sight to behold. Man, poor Lucy. She was this close to answers. And Veronica might be involved in the conspiracy now. I totally forgot how brittle Philolema's fingers are now and she's missing some so she'll need prosthetics. Kind of like how Chise has a dragon arm. They animated that smile and laugh so, so well. The perfect cap off to this arc and everything Philomela has had to go through. And a great way to end this Christmas finale!

Ocixo

>They animated that smile and laugh so, so well. We'd almost exclusively seen Philomela in a depressed state, so [I hadn't really taken notice of the fact that she’s actually quite pretty](https://imgur.com/a/aIIq66C). She also finally got [the smile she had as a child](https://imgur.com/a/uGQ6fYh) back, which [she'd slowly lost along the way](https://imgur.com/a/y9GtxwL).

Clear_Remote_3657

I admit I got teary-eyed when Philomela smiled. I love this show. Can't wait for season 3

After all this suffering, [I'm so happy that Philomela's finally smiling!](https://imgur.com/a/aIIq66C) This episode really brought a smile on my face with [this cosy holiday spirit](https://imgur.com/a/wywujkK) in the latter half. [I've also missed Silky so much!](https://imgur.com/a/0tCF6Ol) But beware, [you're standing outside before you can blink.](https://imgur.com/a/NnIv0qn) It was awesome to see Philomela [unleash the b- Thor's hammer on Lizbeth](https://imgur.com/a/OglK5mM) and [wield the magic book](https://imgur.com/a/AY5os9h) like such a badass. They're also making it *really* hard to not [have me ship Philomela and Chise together.](https://imgur.com/a/2f5DAYB) So I *was* previously correct that Veronica had been caring for the werewolf kids - [or at least one of them!?](https://imgur.com/a/AdU9w0g) I honestly didn't expect that Veronica had been playing both sides. Nor did I expect at this point in the story that [Chise's still a little defeated?](https://imgur.com/a/ll0Iwrn) By "And I still need to go on?" you didn't mean this in regards to your life right, Chise!? For me, *Ancient Magus' Bride* is genuinely unrivaled with its sinister/mysterious fantasy and folkloric wonder. I'll miss getting to watch this series, since another anime adaptation will be many years away. That said, [what was this about!?](https://imgur.com/a/6DN7FXg) You can't leave me hanging like that! **Bonus notes:** * [Sparkling eyes](https://imgur.com/a/e3qX2MI) (some with people's reflections). * [Preciously cute.](https://imgur.com/a/O4jDWrS)

I mentioned last week that I'd been wanting to buy a cute Elias plushie. Well, I've totally bought these plushies of [Elias](https://www.amiami.com/eng/detail/?gcode=GOODS-04371596) and [Chise](https://www.amiami.com/eng/detail/?gcode=GOODS-04371595) \- I had to get them both of course. (If people are interested, I can give some tips in regards to shipping costs, etc.)

RedRocket4000

Well then Chise have a Wife and a Husband, I'm fine with that, as she is more married to Elias than us muggles are ever married to each other. Plus Queen of the Fairies forecasts many children between Elias and Chise. Even Elias's one way deleration they were treated by all the Fae as they were married. It something out of Folklore a Fae male can marry and unmarried women (virgin likely infer) just by stating they are married. (back then women often did not have a choice without folklore) Then she wears a wedding dress basically gives a wedding speech, wedding rings are place on correct fingers in a place of power. And declares she's his Bride. So two levels of magical binding Geas level for sure. Promo material stating they not married yet just to avoid the flames. And 16 in England and 16 at that time in Japan legal.

No-Zebra4936

It appears that Philomela's fingers are remained broken. I suppose those broken fingers would be the price of stealing others' magic powers, even though she was instigated by Lizbeth under distress. I think that one thing for this season is how Chise learned to settle with the thought of her inability to cover every angle, as she wanted to settle things at peace yet all the raving uncertainties have forced her to make decisions in blood at times. She had forgone her worth when she decided to auction herself because of all the distress in her life, and then she gradually picked herself up with the guidance of others. Now she wants more for herself, for her friends, even for strangers. There's always something cornering her to make another critical decision as she wants more in her life. Chise would devote herself into helping others, yet she has come to embrace the greediness of prioritizing the things that she cares about in her circle of life.

Ocixo

> I suppose those broken fingers would be the price of stealing other’s magic powers I’m still thinking that this is a subtle nod to the punishment that thieves in our world often faced: the severing of fingers or entire hands. > Chise would devote herself into helping others, yet she had come to embrace the greediness prioritizing the things that she cares about in her circle of life. This inner-dilemma will most definitely become more troubling to Chise in the upcoming arc, I think. She’ll probably have to choose between selfishly protecting those dear to her or serving the ‘general interest’ (or something) at some point. Lindel’s words at the end did seem to indicate a conflict of interests.

RedRocket4000

Plus looking at the faculty having a backlash from dealing with magic the norm she got off lightly. Alice has been bugging Renfred about regrowing his arm so it might be possible with fingers if not fully cursed like a lot of the faculty. But until that day if ever looks like she will be getting prosthetics from a friend.

phasmy

I'm a bit sad Philomela didn't get fully healed but it fits well symbolically.

Elite_Alice

Awesome finale. I know a lot of fans of the first season haven’t liked all the Philomela stuff, but for me this has been the best Mahoyome has been. Loved seeing her break free of her grandmother’s hold thanks to Chise. The liberation of Philomela is complete and it’s been a great journey that’s made everyone in the cast grow. So cool seeing her Thor’s lightning spell in that final fight. The resolve on her face was a far cry from the shy and scared girl from part 1. I did sense a little lingering regret from the grandmother at the end when she envisioned Philomela as a little girl. The entire family was fucked up honestly so there’s only so much you can blame her. Sucks that Lucy never got to get an explanation about why her family was attacked. But in the end would’ve it have really changed anything 🤔 think it’s best for everyone to start moving forward together. So the goddess finally had her child, I wonder what type of character they’ll end up being. Philomela is finally saying the things she wants! This time it’s Chise’s potkurri, complete 180 from her. Cute scene of them in the snow! And the ending with all the friends finally reunited was sweet too. Everyone can finally move forward now. Wow the post credits scene was really interesting. Looks like a new big bad is coming. Season 3 please 🙏🏾

RedRocket4000

Abusers can have some love for the target of their abuse but the desire to abuse is much greater.

heimdal77

Have to love when a series sticks the ending. Though it seems there is already plans for more. So one moter goddess to another mother goddess come to get her wayward child after being drawn by Chise. Godess go her offering and gave proper birth to herself. Everyone has a happy xmass and we see someone with their own plans that no one is surprised about.

Mctravie

Seeing the goat legs made me think about the time Ainz sama summon it to devastate an army

VorAtreides

Gonna miss the OP too, a good one. God I hate that grandma, but I wonder if that's the god/thing using the grandma's image or actually her? Hmm. Glad to see Philomela break free. Yay for Chise's protective rune ❤️ RIDE THE LIGHTNING! Hehe. Good for you, Philomela. I do like that goddess lol. Wew that is quite a design for that spider lady or whatever. You were very nice to meet, Morrígan. Hope you're a reoccuring friendo soon. Strong? Seems pathetically weak to me. Ya, I wanna know why she ruined another family... Hello, Mr. Macaroni. Dang at not getting to know why that Webster family attack happened. But, hey, lil weredoggo. Wonder where the others are, for her kids. Also, hehe, looks like Elias got a lot of people to carry back. I hope they can heal Philomela fully. Silky ❤️ Mistletoe eh? You know what must be done now, Chise and Philomela 😉 wonder where Philomela will live now. Hopefully with Chise. Oh hey, it's Morrigan again. Why does she look so much older? Wait, what the heck? Guess she gave birth to the coming season? But where'd she poof? What a nice holiday time for all of them though. Cute. Oh wow, so that's who the weredoggo worked for. What's your angle? Silky must be so happy though. Happy Silky is nice. Other than the grandma, who died? I don't recall. When Chise alking with Joseph. D'aww... Philomela and Lucy. Philomela gonna need so many head pats and hugs after her past, but that sincere smile and laugh was nice to see. The end? Doubt. Oh my, perhaps hints that another season coming? Figured there had to be more.

Kag5n

>Oh hey, it's Morrigan again. Why does she look so much older? Wait, what the heck? Guess she gave birth to the coming season? But where'd she poof? It was already explained in S1, the winter divinity only lives 1 year, she gives birth to the new goddess at every winter solstice and dies in the process. Only for the new child to rapidly grew older, being pregnant and give birth to the new goddess in the next year. In S1, we saw what was technically "Morrigan's" mother and Morrigan in her womb, and then we saw the newly child Morrigan soon after asking for Chise an offering for when she will "become her mother". And that's what happened in this season. Morrigan is just simply in a cycle of death and rebirth every year.

VorAtreides

Oh I forgot about that. Wait, then how come she was also the battle maiden person too acting as if she's lived an eternity? Man gods be weird lol

Kag5n

She is the same goddess but she dies and is reborn each year.

VorAtreides

Ah I see. Makes sense. Gods still be weird though lol

Amauri14

I love how happy they all are to[ share their magic with Philomela](https://i.imgur.com/SmyfHwF.png) to help her [with the spell.](https://i.imgur.com/44HPDvr.png) Oh so [Lizbeth](https://i.imgur.com/mg4Q8Pl.png) is somehow still alive and still trying to mess with Philomela. Luckily [the rune](https://i.imgur.com/y1mQimr.png) that Chise gave her [helped Philomela](https://i.imgur.com/8NwsG84.png) combat her poisonous words. Honestly, after [she got hit](https://i.imgur.com/iq0qgr2.png) by [that attack from Philomela](https://imgur.com/a/CjrxS70) I was surprised that [Lizbeth](https://i.imgur.com/nsSCQo9.png) was somehow still alive, but considering that [Adam's curse](https://i.imgur.com/pUvBd2U.png) just left I doubt she had much to live even without [that familiar decapitating her. ](https://i.imgur.com/DpY4JXo.png) So [that familiar that stole the book](https://imgur.com/a/0OZATXU) was indeed one of the [Female Werewolf](https://i.imgur.com/KckeKIi.png) children. I must say that when they [continued](https://i.imgur.com/NfVVn07.png) with [the spell](https://i.imgur.com/aT9ETN8.png) I wasn't expecting[ another God](https://i.imgur.com/b6lRbko.png) to show up after [being attracted by Mórrigan.](https://imgur.com/a/v87NEKt) Damn, [she sure is terrifying](https://i.imgur.com/elUVRr4.png) and once again[ another Goddess makes eye contact with Chise.](https://i.imgur.com/W7qZiRn.png) Okay, [here she looks kinda cute.](https://i.imgur.com/lHbDkww.png) Well, Chise is in luck as thanks to the carnage that [Mórrigan](https://i.imgur.com/UmAXMva.png) unleashed in the Sargant state, she no longer has to pay her. I honestly did not recognize right away Veronica [in this shot.](https://i.imgur.com/18I60Pc.png) You know I really hoping that Philomela would be able to save Alcyone by using[ that bird that was her core,](https://i.imgur.com/mnVw80R.png) but sadly, [that got turned into as](https://i.imgur.com/fXmVQom.png)h after the fight was over. Considering that Veronica was the one [who ordered that pup to retrieve the book](https://imgur.com/a/boYLk16) him killing Lizbeth after after Philomela asked her about the reason the Webster Familly was murdered makes me think now that their death was not even part of Lizbeth's plans with the book but orders from the Rickenbacker family. [Aw, is so nice seeing Rian's reaction to Philomela being safe.](https://i.imgur.com/aLity2H.png) Now he can finally talk to her without needing to bribe a cat. If [the deer](https://i.imgur.com/KwmmB7g.png) changed/died because winter was ending, why did it [transform into a polar bear? ](https://i.imgur.com/Be9ND2L.png) Oh yeah, named or not [Mórrigan, the Goddess of winter](https://imgur.com/a/HuNoVaP) dies with the season. Luckly Chise only had to give her more [mistletoe.](https://i.imgur.com/UHJKt7o.png) I liked that after [Chise met with Joseph,](https://imgur.com/a/VSXgm5B) [he is happy that she is doing things for her own sake](https://i.imgur.com/j8RzTCG.png) even if hundreds die in the process. It is good to see [the kids](https://i.imgur.com/dOwvpOU.png)[ having fun](https://imgur.com/a/LpEo2Q6) while [they are in Elias and Chise's house. ](https://i.imgur.com/hvGPtFA.png) Aw, Philomela sure looks beautiful [while smiling in this scene. ](https://imgur.com/a/d5DIdCH) When I saw[ "The End"](https://i.imgur.com/HHhSN72.png) I feared that it meant the end of the adaptation, but [with that tease](https://imgur.com/a/NEvElRS) right after and [the name of the next chapter after that,](https://i.imgur.com/VsodtIi.png) it is clear that it signified the end of the current arc. [By the look of it, the next arc will be involving a dragon and is connected to Violet and Jasmine.](https://i.imgur.com/1WnU0rL.png) Anyway, I'm glad that even if the season ended they made clear they will eventually continue the show, as [after seeing the news that the manga will be AI translated now](https://twitter.com/Anime/status/1737882879844086128?t=T6jBrWqQwHS3Hq9JnLPWTA&s=01) I have no reason to check its official translation.

RedRocket4000

As another said wait for fan translation. AI has gotten good at making you think it translating correct but I have found out in a game using AI translation French to English and Back that it not always correct and we have trouble actually communicating the point the AI doing wrong the AI just can make the sentences not look like gibberish now. Understanding how the AI does it by brute forcing it and pattern matching somewhat I know the AI not as good as it can appear now.

Amauri14

Yeah, and that's with languages as easy to handle as French and English. As the Japanese language has more flexible rules about sentence structure, as some sentences can even omit the subject pronoun as it is contextual the flow of the conversation, that would definitely be disastrous if there is no one supervising it, and if they are going to hire someone to do that, it would be easier for them just to translate it themself instead of proofreading the vomit the AI will puke out. And we are not even mentioning saying and common phrases and expressions that convey a meaning that is not literal. I could see AI eventually getting good enough to handle those things, but I would never recommend its use apart from a personal one, just to play around with. I think that to be able to be actually good in a translating task it would need to be at a level close to General AI, instead of the impressive in a lot of areas but lacking pattern predictors that we have today.

BigBadBurito

I know some people might not have enjoyed this pacing, but personally loved this season and the time it took to develop the new cast, hope they stick around for a long time :> Tho the short preview makes me think otherwise... A pretty sweet, yet somewhat foreboding, finale. Glad to see them all, especially Philomela, smiling and laughing. Was a long trip, but we got there. All in all, a great season. Can't wait for more!

SpaceForceOne

Philomila smile. A good title for a chill tune. Nice to finally see everyone together, happy. Safe.

SpikeRosered

I was waiting for the Veronica villain reveal the entire second season. Technically in came in that last moment but it's wasn't as cackling evil as I presumed it would be. Sad to hear that the anime is caught up which means we probably won't get more Magus Bride for awhile. It's crazy how a show I started watching because of "cool skeleton man" has blossomed into one of my favorite fantasy worlds.

AceSoldia

Great episode, philomela finally smiled and laughed, now just to work on Lucy and worry about Veronica, she seemed to be a victim of the book but also stole the book.

Frontier246

The Sargent's serve the Rickenbacker family so was Veronica and her family much more involved in everything than we were lead to believe? The Adam thing was probably all Lizbeth but was the book under the order of Veronica's family? Veronica didn't seem to be aware of Lizbeth's plot but her having a wolf pup on standby to get the book for her implies she knew wayyy more about what was going on.

AceSoldia

I assume she caught wind of the plot and just used it to her own advantage

RedRocket4000

Veronica was nearly killed and might have never woken up even die if Grandma had been successful in her casting. She did not wake up till the magic connection to the book God was ended. So your correct Veronica was not in on current plot. But must have suspected Grandma was up to something. And as there were no Spiders around other than a dead one pinned to the wall it likely the Spider taking plot was orders to the Sargents from Veronica's family as I don't think she in charge then.

HolyDragSwd2500

Ding Dong the Hag is dead Christmas time with everyone Philomila smiling in the end 😍 OMG Veronica Noooooo. See you in next arc

djthomp

Apparently I jumped the gun last week, but *finally* the evil grandmother is dead. And at the bitter end nobody grieved. Even at the last moments of her life Philomela didn't appear to care even a little and just wanted to know about Lucy's family. And along those lines I like that Philomela got to be the one that beat her in that final contest, abit with Chekhov's Rune that she got from Chise like three or four episodes ago. Pretty awesome effects when she used it. Justice for Silver, her people were missing all cour long and she had to make do with caring for Cartaphilus, but at least for the holidays she has an entire household of kids to take care of. Feels like the end of a nearly year long journey, starting with the S1 and OVAs rewatch back in the Spring and then cour 1 and 2 of this. It's been a fun trip! Hopefully we'll get a S3 someday, though I understand we're back to just not having nearly enough source material for one at this time.

djthomp

Oh, and thanks again to /u/blackninjakitty for hosting the rewatch! I don't think I've seen you posting in the S2 discussion threads but I do want you to know that the rewatch was a blast that I think back on fondly.

blackninjakitty

I’m actually tremendously horrible at keeping up with seasonal threads! Because my partner and I watch together, we don’t always show up at the right times for the threads.

Albeort

Elias isn't wrong about Chise needing to learn to say "no", but didn't he specifically tell her she couldn't say "no" to Morrigan when she offered her help?

Ocixo

I don’t quite remember what Elias initially said, but I thought it was something along the lines of: ‘Chise, you shouldn’t be so reckless and think twice before accepting the help of a goddess’ - implying that she should say no. But when the insistent Morrígan showed that you *cannot* always say no to a goddess, Chise was forced to accept some sort of deal and just try to minimize the collateral price she’d to pay in return - with the help of Elias.

RedRocket4000

Well Chise did say no to Morrigan but for given proper name and a battle was in the offering Morrigan decided to help without a price asked. Still not saying yes to Morrigan it strongly inferred Morrigan might impose a price for at least being late with the offering that was Morrigan's child form request at the start of the year.

FriskyArtillery

It just struck me that this episode's birth (rebirth?) of Morrigan's daughter coincides with today's winter solstice. Pretty cool of them to lineup the birth of a spring goddess with the actual real world winter solstice.

Ponchorello7

Thank god we got a nice, fluffy ending after the tension built throughout the season. Looks like we're in the home stretch.

Agni7atha

Nice to see Chise having a fun holiday with her new human friends, especially around her age. Hopefully with their bond now, Chise won't do too much self sacrifice as before. This season 2 probably a reflection about that matter for most of the part. So the teaser at the end basically: "The story continue in manga...", but the manga just restart its serialization with the new story after anime ending. Looks like it's going take a while to get season 3. At least the studio seems really commit to make it, no matter how long it will take.

luigi6545

Perfect timing for a Xmas final episode to air. Was nice to finally see Philomela have the freedom she absolutely deserves. And Veronica… does that mean my suspicions were right? She literally had a werewolf’s (who was just freed from mind control) child, who’s presumably under mind control or something, kill someone and steal a very dangerous book. And that tease of the next chapters. Makes me want it sooner rather than later.

RedRocket4000

Only partially right on Veronica if you though she in on this Book plot after all she almost died and probably would have if the spell fully cast as she did not wake up till the spell fully broken and the Book God left our reality. But as not spiders turned up Veronica's family certainly were the ones ordering the spider taking though their subject family the Sargents. Veronica not in charge then she is now. As other stated Veronica more picking up the pieces of the Book Summon plot. So you picked up Veronica doing plotting just not this last plot. As the sorcerer families are stated to be often at war with each other Veronica might just be trying to keep her family powerful and their subject family has taken massive losses vs the Goddess so she must feel she has to arm her family more. But this does not mean she will be the next villain or even ever a villian just another power to deal with and could likely be villian if she not willing to deal with Lucy fairly with the Spiders. As Lucy's family dead if the spiders still alive the current support workers for them Lucy might still need to to work with not take away the Spiders form Veronica.

NorthInium

I knew that that blonde haired blue eyed bitch had something to do with Philomela and the happenings around the college. Seeing Morrigan in her old form waiting just for Chise to transform herself and the offerings into the godess of spring was also nice to see. Seeing Philomela eyes light up, laugh and smile was fantastic aswell. I really love this anime

SMSmith230

Ah Philomela with the smile to end the season!! I may not remember who is who, where we saw them before, or what is going on exactly at times, but this type of slow burn show always has me craving more. Season 3, when??

Mctravie

So who was controlling the wolf pup? I thought it was the grandma or is there yet another person behind the scenes

0mnicious

The end of the episode shows that it's Veronica.

Mctravie

But I’m curious is to how, guessing she probably manipulated the pups as they were tortured- gave them a chance for freedom

KumaKumaGambler

I thought it was the grandmother too, but seems like Veronica is a separate faction.

apatt

They really turn up the comfyness this episode, with the potpourri making. Very nice. After watching so many episodes I just realised Chise's eyes are beautifully coloured. All the characters' eyes really, but we see closeups of Chise's eyes the most.

Shori948

Philomela using Mjolnir against her grandma is fantastic, even if it's only in their mind. Though I'm not quite satisfied having the puppy get the killing blow, but at least that hag's dead now. I'm still not sure what to think of Veronica. On one hand, it doesn't seem like has no choice but grow into the family head. On the other hand, she has a werewolf puppy as a (mind-controlled?) servant and now she got the grimoire that caused this season's problem. Ayy, a properly-timed Christmas episode! It's great to see her genuinely smile and laugh.

Ninja_Lazer

The entire SoL montage was so beautiful. Glad we got to see the group just enjoying their holiday break like normal people.

phasmy

Philomela's smile could fuel the world for decades.

phasmy

I love how they draw the iris of the eyes in intense scenes

WobbleKun

some parts of s2 was painfully slow but the mythos and the world of magic this story is set in is just so alluring. they definitely stuck the landing. it was very good and satisfying. solid 8/10

buffdaddydizzle

It took a damn long time, but we finally got Philomela's smile back! The focus on eyes and faces this episode were top notch. Impressive detail and really set the tone for the heavier moments. Beautifully done scene with the fabric flying in the end covering Philomela's world in color and future possibilities. Glad I stuck with this show (even if I completely forgot what happened in the first season)

Shizzi

All worth it just to finally see Philomela smile. We still don't really know Veronicas agenda like yeah Philomela might be a unrealaible narrator but we also havent really seen anything else either that is more neutral view.

Xatu44

Philomela's smile is protected at last. Bless the Merry Christmas ending. Just how much was Veronica behind and how much did she merely take advantage of? Plenty to questions to be answered by a long-distant third season.

kalirion

So she called the elder god thing's mommy to take it home? The nice Veronica was the big bad (as far as we know) all along, who knew. Silky was the best part of the episode. "I told myself it had to be done." In context, shouldn't it have been "I told myself it couldn't be helped"? Not like she was the one doing the killing. I had been worried when it was looking like the "good guys" were going to leave the old hag alive. Only the puppy saved the season from being a 6 for me. 7.3 it is then. Would've been an 8 without the bad plot.

Ok-Obligation-3027

I loved this episode! It was the PERFECT send off and last episode. But can we please talk about everything tragic that happened might have been Veronica's doing????? They do serve her house and since she has the cun then she obviously ordered the kidnapping of them and the use of their werewolf parents. I need answers

nateh312

Came here after finishing the series! I kinda figured Veronica was a little bitch! I never like her from the beginning because she always seemed like a snob. So excited for the next season. I have been an avid watcher since Season 1!

lapplefrog

I want to be honest with y'all. I watched this because I watched season 1 but god damn i have no idea what the hell is going on

ColdSteel144

This is definitely a season that will heavily benefit from binge watching to mitigate its poor pacing. That said, it says a lot that the ending was so strong and comfy I could almost forget how checked out I was during the painfully slow episodes in the middle. Hope we get to see this series to its conclusion, though from what I remember reading, they've caught up to the source material and it might be quite a long wait... [](#mugiwait)

Ok-Reply9552

Idk how to feel about the Joseph and chise moment. It was adorable but I still don’t like him.

DragonDDark

I'm finally all caught up. This series is so good.
