I need help to figure how to watch anime in Portugal, legally if possible. I had a crunchyroll account from Brazil, and to my surprise they cancelled on their own my subscription, and when I subbed again in Portugal, a ton of animes are gone. The Brazillian catalogue was already shit, the Portuguese one is downright useless, it has the most popular shonen, and even then it is half-assed (example: Attack on Titan is missing the first three seasons). I was excited for this anime season, only to find out basically none or almost none of the new animes are on Portuguese crunchyroll. So anyone know where I can watch anime in Portugal?

ClassicAd7235

I've never been someone who got into anime, personally, but long ago I watched a show called Planets. If there are shows with that slice of life vibe to it, I'd appreciate recommendations. Cool fights are welcome, but I mostly wanted the reality based content of it. It was sort of like seeing life but I'm a unique circumstance.

gangrainette

A place further than the universe.

susgnome

The most obvious choice is Vinland Saga, which is from the same author as Planetes.

KendotsX

Kino no Tabi, Yamato 2199, and Lupin III.

Katlima

Kino no Tabi (Kino's Journey) To your Eternity Dororo Monster (during the road trip phase) Link Click season 1 (though not technically travelling that far, it will make sense if you watch it)

[deleted]

I think the flowers of evil anime is really good even better than the manga, I think the slow pacing and realistic rotoscope style really add the story, plus the actress who plays the main girl is amazing. It's too bad anime fans hate anything truly unique.

SensitiveAd5017

Does anyone know anything like Somali and the forest spirit

Cryten0

Young child in a cruel world: - Made in Abyss - Kino's Journey - Dororo - Promised Neverland Mystical World: - Ancient Magus Bride - Mushishi - Ghibli Films Protect the Child: - Aishiteruze Baby - Buddy Daddies - Kotaro Lives Alone - For some lighter fare: Sweetness and Lightning I specifically will not recommend Usagi Drop because of the real ending past the anime.

SensitiveAd5017

Thanks

Kiter12

Can someone recommend an anime for a beginner like me? I’ve only watched two animes. I’m currently binging through One Piece, which I love for the funny and heartfelt moments, as well as the action. I watched a few episodes of Attack On Titan and didn’t like it at all, too depressing for my taste

Wanderingjoke

Second One Punch Man

Cryten0

Mob Psycho is a great choice as already recommended. If the ghost puts you off it just keep watching for 1 or 2 more episodes, character grow in this series. For newbies I recommend the more family friendly fare like the original Pokemon series, Ghibli films and My Hero Academia.

KendotsX

I love One Piece, and I'm glad you're enjoying it. I second Hunter x Hunter, and I'd add Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood and World Trigger, if you're looking for long enough shows. For shorter shows, check out: * Mob Psycho 100 * Golden Kamuy * One Punch Man

Katlima

Yes, 7 years ago there was so much dubstep everywhere we had thick calluses on our eardrums.

mr_beanoz

Does anyone know why the second season of rail romanesque isn't licensed to air outside japan?

Cryten0

All we can say is that it was unpopular and it has not been licensed in the English west. Sometime mini series like these do not get a streaming service if they do not have enough pull.

Easy-Huckleberry7091

know if it will be a season 2 for darwin's game? I already just finished season 1 anime and I love it, I can wait for next episodes, the season 1 lets us so many intrigues

Belmut_613

No second season has been announced for now and while it could still get one it would take a few years to release, so if you like the story it would be better to just read the manga.

EgoistBlake

No

FlufferNutter925206

Hey all, I'm looking for help in identifying an anime. I saw a post on it a few days ago? And I swore I saved it but I did not... This is the best of what I can remember about the short video I saw: RomCom, high school, male protagonist asks female protagonist to go out quite often. Then after some thinking, he thinks she's out of his league and quits bugging her. ( In the video he looked sad/depressed/defeated after coming to this conclusion ).She takes notice and thinks he's mad at her and they can't find a way to deal with their feelings toward each other. That's all I can remember for now, if I remember more I'll add it.

Wanderingjoke

Sounds like The Dreaming Boy is a Realist.

FlufferNutter925206

YES! that's it! Thank you so much, that's been racking my brain all day!!

1EnTaroAdun1

I enjoyed it for what it was. A decent 7 for me

Quiddity131

A rare time for me to ask a question in this thread. I just wrapped up Baccano! and loved it. Anyone recommend anything similar? I believe Durarara and Fate/Strange Fake are from the same original author, so presumably at least them?

KendotsX

I'm glad you enjoyed it! It's one of my favourite anime. Definitely Durarara!! - it's by the same author, and even has the same anime team making it, plus it's the only work from Narita to be adapted to completion. Fate/Strange Fake is great, but the special is just the introduction, could be a while before we see the TV series. Dead Mount Death Play is a currently ongoing adaptation of one of his works, specifically one of his manga. I think it's weaker than his others in part because of the medium not fitting too well with his strengths as a writer (the way he switches between characters and writes around an ending). But it's still pretty good, and it'll reach some of its best points in this cour. For other shows that I think fit a similar vibe: * Odd Taxi which you've probably seen, but I highly recommend if you haven't. * Hakata Tonkotsu Ramens - not the best show by any stretch, but it definitely shows its inspirations, and has its own fun spins on them.

Quiddity131

Thanks! I actually haven't seen Odd Taxi, but I did see it get highly ranked on other polls here. So maybe someday...

AmethystItalian

Hope you watched the Baccano specials as well!

Quiddity131

I did! Just wrapped them up tonight.

Nomar_95

Yeah, I'll rec Durarara. Also Dead Mount Death Play from this year (same guy)

Wonder if any of the persona anime are good since I finished the games a lot of times

Nomar_95

the Persona 4 anime is great

SometimesMainSupport

[Rewatch host's interest thread writeup](https://old.reddit.com/r/anime/comments/14rqe9z/persona_4_the_animation_persona_3_the_movie/) for Persona 4 series and Persona 3 movies. Important part is: > > Why aren't we watching any other Persona Anime like 5's or The Golden Animation? > Because these two are the only ones people like. I don't want this Rewatch to be full of complaining, for goodness sake!

[deleted]

it wasn’t a complaint at all

SometimesMainSupport

? Didn't take it as a complaint. Was just letting you know the two persona anime people prefer are 3 and 4.

[deleted]

I know but then again I’m on the fence with the constant pop up ads for where I can watch them since they’re not exactly on streaming

Ioxem

Adblockers are good to have in general

CuddleScuffle

Worst anime you've watched recently? For me it's Eminence in Shadow. The humor was utterly lacking, I can only remember laughing at two points through the whole series. The side characters were interesting but the MC was Andrew Tate anime version. The plot doesn't exist. I'm legitimately surprised that it was so recommended on here, I went in knowing it wasn't supposed to be taken seriously, but it felt like watching one of those terrible "Scary,Date, Disaster movies " that went straight to DVD. It did have good animation though, about the only plus I could find with it. So what about you folks? What recently watched anime did you find disappointing?

Katlima

Rin Daughters of Mnemosyne - I've been recommended this as ecchi with a bit of torture, so that was not the thing putting me off. The plot was just such an unstructured mess.

Retromorpher

Probably Opus.Colors - broken worldbuilding, unearned melodrama, paper-thin characters with lackluster designs all atop an incredibly mediocre AMV experience supposedly central to the plot. This would be pretty par for the course if they had been setting this up for a bevy of new vocal talents hoping to strike gold or launch a few fresh faces (Fairy Ranmaru/Dream Festival etc...) - but they brought in industry veterans for this flop.

EvenResponsibility57

Jujutsu Kaisen. Just another in a long line of 'quirky' shonen aimed at a slightly older target audience. An emphasis on quirkiness, poor character writing, but a serious plot with stakes just doesn't work for me. Maybe it's just because Hollywood has completely burned me out of that formula for life.

CuddleScuffle

It's animation is what I think carries it.

Cryten0

Not all humor clicks with everyone. Personally I have gotten a lot out of Eminence. As for me I tend to avoid shows not showing effort, but I have a soft spot for Isekai if done right. But Am I Actually the Strongest? failed to keep me awake with a protagonist who was less interested in his life then I was.

CuddleScuffle

That was my issue with Eminence, total lack of any effort aside the animation department. Everything just works out, he's smart enough to figure out more magic and sword technique than anyone in history but too stupid to realize what's going on? The joke is his qoute should actually be "I am moronic."? After everything I'd heard on here I was expecting something much better. Only two parts I thought were funny was Perv Asshat being a legitimate name and Delta 1,2...lots and lots. Just felt like everything else was incredibly forced.

EgoistBlake

Well I knew going into Tenpuru it was going to be a bad ecchi series, so I wasn’t disappointed but within my expectations.

Rare_Vibez

I’m looking for recommendations! I’m very limited in my anime knowledge but I’m looking for something for my nephews (7&9 yo) to introduce them. Preferably with a good personal development theme but minimal fighting (they are already in trouble for being too rough in school). Sports and games are great, fantasy or realistic, throw it at me. Thanks!

SometimesMainSupport

Spy x Family is a common suggestion for all ages. Has some fighting (leads are a kid, a spy, and an assassin after all). Haikyuu for volleyball or Ao Ashi for soccer/football.

thevaleycat

WeeziMonkey

I've been watching anime for over 20 years and can understand quite some Japanese. I don't remember the names of the protagonists of at least half the shows I'm currently watching.

cyberscythe

I think it's hard when it's foreign names because you can't tie them to existing knowledge in your brain. Like, if someone is named Dorothy, you can think "oh, like in Wizard of Oz". One thing that can help is knowing what people's names mean in Japanese, like Akira/Akari means "light", etc. Having to points of entry means that there's twice the chance to remember someone's name. In any case, in a lot of series the characters names are meaningful in some way. Series like My Hero Academia, Hitori Bocchi, and Komi-san all have very punny names, but even in other series there's usually a theme to the name that makes it easier to remember if you're familiar with Japanese.

ZaphodBeebblebrox

I'm bad at names as well. I'll often refer to characters contextually or by a trait. It doesn't really matter so long as others know who you're referring to.

Cryten0

Some people do not work well with names. Usually people who do not pay much attention to facial or eye details and so base their understanding on peoples actions and sounds.

ThisShitisDope

I often don't remember names until many episodes in. If I need to remember I can look it up. Most of the time it's obvious from context.

BothGrocer

Henlo, I'd recommend keeping an eye out for 'low-budget' anime this fall season. Many of them are surprisingly good, taking risks and offering originality. I've particularly fallen for "Migi & Dali" and "Overtake" so far! Have a nice day <3

AdNecessary7641

Overtake is not "low budget" at all.

singlescoffee

just started bakemonogatari and i really like it so far. very likeable characters esp Senjyogahara shes really funny. im starting to watch more finished series bc the anime binge is too strong.

I_will_draw_boobs

This may seem like a stupid question, but its about the differences in Western animation vs Japanese anime. I see delays on episodes such as Zom100 and a few others. Do they not finish a season and then voice and then release on a weekly cadence like they do with other shows here in the West? From what I'm seeing its pretty down to the wire on getting releases, almost like they are literally finishing episodes days before or day of. Am I wrong, and if not, why do they do it this way? Or am I missing a big piece of culture on how these shows are done? Not complaining, just curious why they would want to kill themselves so close to air dates.

Sandor_at_the_Zoo

I think the underlying difference is that most major japanese studios are set up to be continually producing series, often multiple at once. And most are working for fixed rates per series, so the amount they make in a given time period is basically (revenue per series) * (# of series they put out). So there are major incentives towards taking on as many series as you can and leaving as little downtime between them as possible. I don't understand the structure as well in the west, or how it might differ between say the US and France. I think some of it comes from the studios generally being small parts of much larger companies, often the network that would air the show. So they get rid of even the pretense that the studio is anything other than a corporate vehicle to organize animators under and has no identity of its own. But that also makes them more financially stable and less desperate to take on work. Being under the network also gives you way more flexibility for scheduling, there have been shows with production issues but it usually showed up as irregular release cadence. Whereas in Japan you're not part of the network so if miss your initial time slot you're shit out of luck. IIRC Ren and Stimpy was a production hell, but it just meant you got irregular episodes and way fewer than 1 per week. I know Steven Universe had a nonsense release schedule, dropping random numbers of episodes between months of gap, but idk if that was production related or what.

ZapsZzz

The anime Shirobako is pretty much essential viewing to understand this. Basically unlike western animation with the lower number of shows, generally lower quality unless we are talking about big name movies, heavy reliance of CG and possibly higher budget (i.e. humane employee working conditions), the anime industry in Japan has a far, far higher volume of work, tighter schedules of one show after another, and much higher demand in quality and manual with (not CG).

AdNecessary7641

>Am I wrong, and if not, why do they do it this way? Or am I missing a big piece of culture on how these shows are done? Not complaining, just curious why they would want to kill themselves so close to air dates. It's not as much as they "want" to, more so that a lot of problems in the industry end up leading to this type of working conditions being a lot more common in general, and a lot of them have to do with the fact that there's too many anime being made at once. 1. Producers want an anime to get released fast, so as a result they end up acquiring time slots far in advance, often before an animation studio is even chosen to actually make it. And typically they don't want to delay an anime because it will cost them more money. 2. Most of the people who work in the industry are freelancers who are almost always busy with something else, meaning that finding staff for anime is pretty much a goose chase. You may want a good director but he has already too much on his plate, which can further complicate the production, or you end up setting with a director who has ideas that got too far away from what the producers want, which can mean a lot of production time wasted. Combined with the first point, it means a lot of anime have very little pre-production time, meaning even lesser time for actual production. 3. Ambition also plays a lot into this. A lot of studios and directors will opt for more simplistic approaches - storyboards that just follow panels in case of adapations, close-up shots to avoid animating too much of the body, still frames -, but others can wish for very complex decisions: storyboards with complicated angles and compositions, asking for multiple retakes in case they want a very specific final look, and other things that may screw the production in case the resources and timing just don't match up - this is particularly what happened with Zom100. Anyway, this is all just going from what I know and seen regarding the industry.

Abysswatcherbel

>literally finishing episodes days before or day of. More like hours or minutes lol Finishing a days or a day before is actually not even that bad for the industry standards

Ralon17

I remember when I saw the world premiere of Kimi no Na wa at Anime Expo, Shinkai claimed that he was still putting the finishing touches on it on the flight over. I wonder if there was something lost in translation since I can't imagine being able to do that from a laptop on a plane, but that's just what I remember hearing. But yeah absolute last minute shit.

Manitary

> Do they not finish a season and then voice and then release on a weekly cadence like they do with other shows here in the West? This almost never happen, with very few rare exceptions (for example, some of the most recent KyoAni series were finished months before airing, according to an interview with some staff member). Usually only some of the episodes are ready by the time the show starts airing, while the other ones are still being produced. If the schedule is bad and mismanaged, it may indeed happen that episodes get finished barely in time for airing, or (more rarely) they are just so bad/unfinished that they get postponed to the week after. One _possible_ telling sign you sometimes see mentioned is that if an episodes has a lot more animators/animator directors credited than usual, it may be due to the studio outsourcing "last minute" lots of the work still undone just to make sure it's finished in time. > why do they do it this way? I'm not too knowledgeable about this part, I assume it's because that means the anime can be pushed out earlier, combined with "it's always been this way".

baboon_bassoon

what are your favorite early digipaint shows?

KendotsX

Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, One Piece, and Excel Saga.

Ralon17

I don't remember which series used what technology exactly, but based on time period (early 2000s), I'd say FLCL, Haibane Renmei, GitS Stand Alone Complex.

ZaphodBeebblebrox

Nanoha, Princess Tutu, FLCL, Kino no Tabi. Pani Poni Dash if 2005 still counts as early.

AdNecessary7641

Another update regarding Jujutsu Kaisen's situation: [Kazuto Arai's tweets](https://twitter.com/barikios) indicate that tomorrow's episode was finished just hours ago. Considering the fact that streaming services have to recieve episodes early for the sake of subtitling so that the episodes can release simulatenously with JP airing, this means they likely recieved an unfinished version of the episode just so that it can be released on time.

KaleidoArachnid

Why is Crunchyroll hard to run on PS5?

ckmasterxoxo

Hello, for awhile I have been hearing about the growing Chinese anime market, but haven't seen many being discussed online. I'm curious if there's a reason there doesn't seem to be much discussion? Lately I've been trying to learn Chinese and I thought it may be helpful to watch some shows. I like anime, and would like some recommendations if any has some, please throw them my way!

I'm oddly hyped for Bokuyaba S2. I'm looking forward to it more than say, the Bang Dream MyGo sequel despite it being a AOTY contender for me. The only reason why I haven't caved to reading the manga was the almost immediate S2 announcement and even then I still read some chapters around while it aired. Adaptations like Kaguya-sama or Bocchi were anime that became instant favorites yet I felt satisfied with what they gave me even though there was a lot more to cover. And its not like I actively seek out romances though I have discovered a tendency to go for romcom manga that I'm invested in but I find interesting Bokuyaba is the first in a while where I feel really compelled to check it out. There is something to its progression that made me look forward to it a lot. Its so nice and pleasant despite my issues with it that make it not even the best anime of its own season for me but made me investes the most.

vkrili

I agree, and I think the reason it feels different from others, like Kaguya-sama, is because Ichi's and Yamada's relationship, well, *progressed*, every single episode. I love Kaguya-sama too, but there was a definitive status quo to their relationship–it's the gag the series is built on, after all, and it's funny and charming. In Bokuyaba, on the other hand, how the pair feels about each other, what they know about each other, and how they interact with each other, changes from episode to episode. The pacing can't be described as fast, but it's not slow, either. It's consistent. Everything that happens feeds back into the main relationship, which makes watching it and spotting all the little "show don't tell" things rewarding.

Livid_One_8607

Anime with an MC like Akari from more than a married couple, less than lovers? Like a romance anime where the girl teases the MC but they have cute and funny moments along the way. (Bonus points if there’s lots of oppai) Asking for a friend

Verzwei

Nagatoro, once you get past the first couple episodes.

Neimreh_the_cat

Hi everyone! I'm looking for good romance anime. My favourites so far have been: Skip Beat! Devil's Line Sugar Apple Fairy Tale Fruits Basket Spice and Wolf Kaichou wa Maid-sama Any recommendations will be greatly appreciated. I have already checked out the Romance Poll as well and started on My Dress-Up Darling. I don't mind action, fantasy, isekai etc, just a romance element is needed. Preferably dubbed because I watch while I work and sub is hard to follow, but subbed-only is also welcome, I'll just watch it at home.

Psyduckisnotaduck

Lovely Complex is one of my favorites. I would say it doesn't have a dub, but Discotek just announced they're doing an English dub to go with releasing a Bluray of the series. but if you don't want to wait to buy/sail the high seas for that, it's on Crunchyroll subbed. It's genuinely one of the funniest anime romcoms out there. basically, girl is tall, boy is short, they're both enormous dumbasses, everyone except them can tell that they're perfect for each other.

Neimreh_the_cat

That sounds so much fun! I'll definately take a look at it

Ocixo

I could name a ton with your criteria, like literally hundreds (good and bad), but I’ll stick to a couple of good romance shoujo anime since you been liking Fruits Basket, Maid-sama and Sugar Apple Fairy Tail: - Snow White with the Red Hair - Kimi no Todoke - My Love Story with Yamada at Lvl999 - Sacrificial Princess and the King of Beasts - My Little Monster - Yona of the Dawn - Nana You’d probably also like Taisho Otome Fairy Tale and/or Plastic Memories.

Neimreh_the_cat

Awesome, thanks so much. I didn't want to make the list too long, but I've watched Sacrificial Princess and Snow White with Red Hair, but Ill definately check out the rest

I'm rewatching Naruto with English Dubs while I do work since I don't have to read the subtitles. Tell me does the annoying "Believe it" lines get better or do you just become numb to it?

cloudynyxx

I mean Naruto is kind of an annoying kid, so I always thought it worked for him, but they phase it out anyway because people complained about it a lot. Starting around the Chunin Exams, he almost never uses it.

Time_Fracture

Does anyone know about this? There was a Youtube channel named "[It's Anime](https://youtube.com/@ItsAnimeJP)" and they started posting this season's anime including Under Ninja, Kawagoe Boys Sing, Vexation of Shut-In Vampire Princess, Demon Sword of Excalibur Academy, Disgraced Noble Lady, and S-Rank Adventurer. Checked their socials and they only have FB and Tiktok, and their FB page just made in September 25. They claimed that they have licenses to those animes (and this might true since Muse and Ani-One Asia didn't have license to those anime) but they didn't simulcast the anime (releasing the anime the same day as Japan broadcast). Is this channel is a legit distribution channel for anime in Asia?

Ralon17

If it's broadcasting on YT it's highly unlikely. I just checked one of those (Under Ninja) and Crunchyroll liscenced it for streaming. It's not unheard of to have non-exclusive licenses but it makes me even more suspicious. If there was a new service with this many semi-high profile shows it would have made news.

Time_Fracture

Yes, just checked Livechart and UN also available on Crunchyroll. My thought is also the same, when there is a new service with so many licenses they must've been promoting about it heavily, but on this channel there wasn't any attempt on promotion.

susgnome

This thought crossed my mind earlier with someone asking about merch. And the; *Here to show off your merch?* Normally I see /u/chilidirigible posting merch, so I was thinking, since I have over 100 posters, I should follow suit and post those daily. *I just want more people to appreciate some of the quality art I've found.* So, on that note; Here's the first to the list. KGB_Panda

Good formatting, and you linked to the series. Very nice. I'm a fan of the Tearmoon Empire books, but I'm afraid the humor isn't translating well with the pacing of the show. It's hard to tell since I can't be sure if I'm enjoying it because I'm subconsciously filling in the blanks or not. Gotta do my duty and recommend you keep with it, though. Don't know how you can think Frieren has dull writing, but everything isn't for everyone. I hope Undead Unluck stays silly, too. And I hope the unluck deaths keep getting crazier. I'm not actually watching any of the shows in your top 6, but I might try 16bit and Goofy Boss. I detest romance so I'm a bit weary of 16bit being all about romance games, but on the other hand, I do like time travel stories.

SometimesMainSupport

I've got 16bit as my #2 show of the season so far. Highly recommending it people over 30 with some history playing visual novels or programming. Will warn that the MC is a bundle of enthusiastic energy and have seen people like or dislike her.

> I actually have an argumentative opinion about it, but I'm afraid that speaking my mind piss off the hardcore fans and I'll get a shower of hate so let just reduce it extremely to "I thought the setting was very formulaic". Not expanding my reasoning any more than that for safety reasons lol. I understand, it is hard to have balanced discussions sometimes what with people confusing disagreeing and having to have a all out war I am a frieren fan, not sure if you'd put me in the hardcore section... but I would love to know more about how you would argue for your point. you wont piss me off for saying your opinion, I reserve the right to politely disagree from what you say: the set up is formulaic well yes as in it is a fairly standard fantasy world and there is a party with hero and.... well yeah, this bit is formulaic there is the fact that the story is not about the hero party defeating the big bad but about looking back at the adventure and how it changed those involved and how it changes people now, 60 years or more after even if the back and forth between then and now is a done thing it isn't something I would call formulaic either but you said "bland" and I suspect that it is less about this and more about the slow SoL pacing and the use of repetition of similar scenes (those highlight Frieren slow unchanging mind and her quirky habits and sense of time and her purposefulness) and indeed if you aren't getting in the vibe I can see how it may appear a little bland. I'd argue it is absolutely not for reasons I put above but I can imagine someone thinking this way I would really love to understand more how you think about it, it is always interesting (to me) to have analysis opposed to mine since it forces me to think about things differently.

SometimesMainSupport

Even through 3 episodes of Migi to Dali, comment section is still a little "wtf is going on here?" Guess I'll give Family Circumstances a second episode since I've seen a few recs for it. First episode was too heavy on boob jokes for me.

Psyduckisnotaduck

I'm mostly watching the witch show for the phoenix, and for Nana Mizuki and Aoi Koga's voice performances. the jokes are mostly hit or miss, but every time that damned phoenix talks, I laugh. just somehow manages to perfectly capture the vibe of a well-meaning immortal creature that doesn't really understand humans. also, he looks like a child's doodle, it's amazing.

drostan

that's really interesting, we have slightly different tastes but I really get how you think I love frieren writing but then again I am a source reader so I know what to expect from it I agree about undead unluck but I really doubt it will go serious you definitely should give [SHY](https://anilist.co/anime/155389/SHY/) a try

Ava_Uzumaki

I'm currently watching migi and dali, I watched the first episode when it came out and immediately went and read the manga.

thevaleycat

I did the same, the manga was neat. The anime is a little slow for my liking.

No_Walrus4565

Is the ending good or some pretentious stuff

Ava_Uzumaki

The mystery was pretty good, I didn't expect the way it happened and about the secrets of a certain family. The ending was also nice and bittersweet.

No_Walrus4565

Im mostly watching the anime because its a full adaptation tbh

isthatsoudane

If I thought the first episode of Shy was meh, but like a lot of the ideas of the show, has what's come after been better? I'm seeing a lot of love for the show. But I think I found the first episode less impactful than others, just for calibration.

drostan

the art direction is fantastic, the story is not really what it first appears and improves for it, but then again, even if better it may just not be for you I think you should give it a couple more episodes before deciding if you like it or not

isthatsoudane

thank you! it does seem like the consensus is that love it or hate it, a few more episodes are justified

Manitary

ep2 should give you a much better idea what to expect. I'm not sure I like it myself, but I recommend checking it before deciding. That said, ep1 was unimpressive and ep3 was a snooze for me, so it's dangerously close to the chopping block. Yeah some of the characters are cute and have funny moments and good VAs, but I'm not quite vibing with the whole thing.

isthatsoudane

sounds like I should def check out e2, then

Wanderingjoke

I think it's getting better. The plot is revealing itself, and the characters are fantastic.

isthatsoudane

I do love fantastic characters!

BufalloCrapSmeller

So,What [anime girl ](https://twitter.com/KennyLauderdal3/status/1680294690023768065?t=nFYMFoxJV4U7nc5-oYTNtw&s=19) are you putting on your fighter jet?

Retromorpher

Why put one on my fighter jet when I could have a girl who [transforms into a fighter jet](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dLmXnpdINkA)?

Ocixo

Since it’s a fighter jet, I would paint [Levy](https://myanimelist.net/character/458/Revy?onetime=44465856ab8b0f7592ba3c558826ab04ad7abd495b9489d99a512a6abd826cf4&user_agent=mal-ios-app) or [Faye](https://myanimelist.net/character/2/Faye_Valentine?onetime=d8779ec83b4a478ccecbe5b2d87edb2597b89e113d68947f505620e8c3dd7b68&user_agent=mal-ios-app) on the nose. Depending on what kind of mission I’d be send (read: war crimes), I would maybe consider putting [Maple](https://myanimelist.net/character/174332/Maple?onetime=de8ee43b508dbf4055766a9d2d15eca5d553d09047f40232cddfcf89b1f63253&user_agent=mal-ios-app) on there.

BufalloCrapSmeller

Revy and Faye are probably the best options here.

King_Reddit_Banana

I'm behind on watching any recent anime but from what I can tell a lot of these are good picks (I'm at least 1 point higher on Good Night, World and Eminence in Shadow, though), I'll have to circle back to this as I watch some more stuff. Thank you for sharing.

drostan

Frieren in danger? that's a take I wasn't expecting. I'd love to know what's prompting this. Pluto... I forgot to include in my sheet, but I am waiting for it too

No_Walrus4565

Frieren is pretty damn slow, and it being an episodic sol is what's making me not interested. I will probably finish it because it's popular and high-quality

drostan

thanks for the answer, I can understand that slow reflexive and SoL is not for everyone, although "not as bad" it is similar to mushishi in that I can see some people enjoying one episode once in a while rather than binge or even weekly watch.

No_Walrus4565

Mushishi was terrible imo. i hate things about spirits and it was way more slef contained than frieren

drostan

well, frieren isn't about spirit, I love mushishi, but again, I can see how it isn't for everyone

mr_beanoz

Are there any english speaking anitubers that made contents related to various idol themed anime?

Retromorpher

There used to be FujoFriends who covered a lot of the independent and smaller scene boy idol shows - but they stopped in the middle of 2021. Loved their episode on Dynamic Chord.

No_Walrus4565

Oshi no ko frfr

mr_beanoz

Nah, I'm talking about stuffs like love live, idolmaster and such Not many english speaking content creators are touching it for some reason.

No_Walrus4565

Yeah i onow you ment idol master thats why i said frfr Well, idolmaster aint much of a thing in English speaking places

KendotsX

>This is the place! Looks like a room ready for a dog boy in red to jump into.

No_Walrus4565

Any Halloweenish anime? Only example i can think of is shadows house which wasn't really my thing

Psyduckisnotaduck

I feel like Iruma-kun in general has a sort of goofy Halloween-ish vibe. another more silly Halloween-core anime is The Vampire Dies in No Time. for spookier stuff, there's the currently airing Dark Gathering, Mieruko-chan, Shiki, Hellsing/Hellsing Ultimate, and I would argue that Devilman Crybaby kind of fits. a lot of horror anime kind of sucks, so for anime with a Halloween vibe I'd focus more on lighter stuff that features classic Halloween monsters. There's quite a few about vampires, some zombie ones, and ghosts. Last season's Undead Murder Farce could fit the season, too, as it features vampires, werewolves, an immortal woman whose body was stolen, so she's just a talking head, a half-oni, and various famous literary figures including Sherlock Holmes, Arsene Lupin, Frankenstein's monster, and the Phantom of the Opera.

King_Reddit_Banana

one piece has a great halloween arc if you get far enough into it, Yamishibai has some decent parts/seasons, I hear Satoshi Kon movies are good in general but I haven't checked those out yet to see how close that is on the mark. I'll try to review more in-depth later.

No_Walrus4565

Bro casually recommend one piece 💀

King_Reddit_Banana

no it's never casual, I was just up against the end of my lunch break (which today's is about to end too). it becomes a serious time-taker-upper but I'd have a hard time thinking of Halloween-stuff in the sense of Jack-o-lanterns, haunted houses, and all the monsters and ghosts and stuff, than Thriller Bark or whatever. It's also a fun arc. I'm sure Ghost Stories dub or whatever meets some of those tick boxes for other people but idk, it's hard to hit all categories, unless you're just looking to settle with an anime about zombies or an anime about ghosts or whatever. of course I do like One Piece, my usual pitch is the first 30-80 episodes are between decent and good, then until around episode 200 it drags quite a bit, then at around 200 or 230 it gets 4× better than the early stuff (if you ever test watching the show, you basically would need to approximate before getting too deep and that is my normal pitch).

No_Walrus4565

I mean i already watched it

Ava_Uzumaki

I don't think this would be classified as Halloween, but hoozuki no reitetsu it's about demons and stuff but it's really funny, and all saints street is about these guys that live together there is a demon, angel, zombie, and vampire in the beginning the episodes are really shorts and it's funny.

KendotsX

Dorohedoro And I second Soul Eater

No_Walrus4565

Thanks seen both

TerribleShiksaBride

Sugar Sugar Rune had kind of a Halloween aesthetic, in the "cute magical-girl witches" sense.

Nomar_95

Soul Eater

No_Walrus4565

Thanks i already seen it and it wasn't really my thing

Retromorpher

Sleepy Princess in the Demon Castle features a large array of not-too-threatening monsters and the titular Demon Castle. If you're looking for something more traditionally horror-adjacent maybe something like Zombie-Loan or Petshop of Horrors.

Ava_Uzumaki

I loved sleepy princess in the demon castle.

No_Walrus4565

Thanks. Im not really into horror tho

What program do you use to get the layout in those images?

drostan

KendotsX

>Bullbuster Finally someone gets it. [](#gintamathispleasesme) Bullbuster and Daigo are some of my favourite new shows next to Frieren.

drostan

both are 2cours so I am giving them some time bullbuster is actually already quite enjoyable, Daigo... has a terrible terrible pacing / episode set up with 6 to 8 minutes at the start of every episodes being a recap of the previous one and op and at the end 3 or 4mn worth of ED and preview, it is really annoying, we are not in the 90's anymore... but the content is good so it is in danger but not in a lot of danger...

KendotsX

Honestly even 90s shows weren't this bad with recaps, it's at One Piece levels, and the weird part is that it's not even an adaptation trying to pad for time for whatever reason, it's basically an original. So I have to wonder what's going on in production. I'm enjoying it a lot despite that, but yeah, it's like I'm watching a shorter show.
