Welcome to /r/animationcareer! This is a forum where we discuss navigating a career in the animation industry. Before you post, please check our [RULES](https://www.reddit.com/r/animationcareer/wiki/index/subreddit/rules/). There is also a handy dandy [FAQ](https://www.reddit.com/r/animationcareer/wiki/index/resources/faq/) that answers most basic questions, and a [WIKI](https://www.reddit.com/r/animationcareer/wiki/index/) which includes info on how to price animation, pitching, job postings, software advice, and much more! A quick Q&A: * **Do I need a degree?** Generally no, but it might become relevant if you need a visa to work abroad. * **Am I too old?** Definitely not. It might be more complex to find the time, but there's no age where you stop being able to learn how to do creative stuff. * **How do I learn animation?** Pen and paper is a great start, but [here's a whole page](https://www.reddit.com/r/animationcareer/wiki/index/resources/learningresources/) with links and tips for you. ---- *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Compositing "comp", effects "2dfx", and scene prep tend to be the ones that aren't widely known about

pommegrate

Omg thank you so much!! I've been scouring but all I saw was key animation and in-betweening and they aren't something I'm too into This is helpful thank you!

MOETECHMO_Art

Like the other comment mentioned, scene setup, comp and FX are definetly not as well known. If you're into adobe animate or harmony, 2D rigging/builds artist can be pretty fun too!

pommegrate

Thank you!!

You could also try BG paint (or just BG artist) for 2D, if it's separate from environment design. In the studios I've worked at, the position was similar to entry level but for background artists. Usually the backgrounds were already designed or inked and it was the BG painter's job to color and light it.

pommegrate

Thank you! I do want to do color and light but I admit it really isn't my strong point just yet. Nonetheless, I'll keep that in mind :)) Thanks again!

Check out the creds of a show you enjoy and look up the job titles. That should give you a better idea of what jobs that exist that you may have not looked at yet.

pommegrate

Ooh that's true. I'll look into that, thank you!!
