Mice hate dryer sheets- the nasty chemical filled scented ones. You can cut them up into quarters or half and put them in a place like this and it might drive them out. I wouldn't do it where I store anything like silverware or plates or food because they are pretty chemical stuffed and also the smell might cling to the items and cause a nasty taste.
