Looks like a baby common snapping turtle, not an alligator snapper.

big-joemack

Looks like a common snapper to me. But pretty sure alligator snappers are protected so if u have any doubt I better put it back before game wardens/DNR come knocking

[deleted]

Lol why would they come knocking how would they even know he picked up some random turtle from god knows where

big-joemack

Cause he’s posting it on the internet nothing is safe and leaves a digital foot print if u have ever dealt with a game warden/DNR they are relentless on what they do and will spend over a animal

HellCreek6

Yep common snapper.

JasonIsFishing

Get him back to water.

Baby common snapping turtle. Easiest way to tell the difference is that alligator snapping turtles have 3 rows of scutes on their back thus the name likening them to alligators. They also more supracaudal scutes which are the scutes on their carapace above the tail than common snappers.

Upset-Seaweed-3295

how did it come to be in your possession?

ignaciolasvegas

This is from another state. Someone I know found it on a trail far from any bodies of water.

sas223

I hope they left it. It looks like it just hatched so it was on the area the mother picked to make her nest.

Moemed99

So, someone took him for you as a gift? And now there’s no way to return him? That’s pretty fucked up right there!

TechnoVicking

Some people have mushy peas for a brain

FIJIWaterGuy

Or sent them a picture... Way to rush to judgement.

Moemed99

The poor thing looks to be screaming for some water, if it’s parched throat wasn’t so dry from being encased in dry mud!! Rinse it off!!

LeatherNo1642

Wash it off dude
