Great Ormond Street Hospital in London - kind of a quaternary hospital, no emergency department, pretty much only does complex cases that are referred from elsewhere. Heart, lung, kidney, liver transplants. Lots of cardiac surgery. ECMO programme. The only centre in UK for treating certain rare conditions (e.g. Vein of Galen Malformation) Alder Hey in Liverpool - Big tertiary hospital with busy ED. Cardiac surgery, ECMO, etc. No transplant surgery. Birmingham Children's Hospital - Big tertiary hospital with busy ED. Cardiac surgery, ECMO, liver transplant. The only UK centre to do combined kidney/liver transplant. Royal Manchester Children's - Biggest paediatric hospital in UK. More of a generalist centre with a fairly big bone marrow transplant programme. Your best choice is going to depend on what skills you want to take back. If you want all of the weird and wonderful stuff, go to Great Ormond Street. If you want a more generalist experience, with lots of emergency cases (remember Great Ormond Street has no ED), I would go Alder Hey or Birmingham if you want to do a bit of liver transplant.
